Aló Presidente (English: Hello Mr. President) was a largely unscripted[1] talk show that was hosted by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. It was broadcast on Venezuelan state television and radio stations every Sunday at 11:00 AM. The program did not have a fixed ending time, but usually ended by 5:00 PM, or as the program dynamics permitted. The show promoted the “Bolivarian Revolution” and blamed Venezuelan economic problems on its northern neighbor, the United States.[2] Many Venezuelans tuned in because Chávez was known for unveiling new financial assistance packages every weekend.[3] Beginning in 1999, Chávez spent an average of 40 hours a week on television promoting his “Bolivarian Revolution” policies.[4]

I’m a little surprised we don’t have a 5-6 hour daily Trump show yet. Or do we?

Because he never has a plan, I wish journalists would figure that part out by now. Everything he does is impulsive, he is totally used to a working environment where he blurts out shit and his underlings make it happen. That way he can promote those who do his bidding without question and fire the ones who make him look bad.

More hideous Republicans in attendance in Jerusalem:

Mike Lee, Dean Heller, Joe Wilson (and 10 of his repulsive Republican cohorts), Joe Lieberman (of course). Wonder who paid for all of these little sojourns?

Lindsey said that if Republicans didn’t go, it was likely due to scheduling issues, but that no Dems went because they’re just awful people who don’t care about Israel (paraphrase)

Let us review:

Jewish Republicans in Congress: 2 out of 293
Zelden and Kustoff

Jewish Democrats in Congress: 28 out of 242

Indeed, how dare these people be made to feel bad for their “jokes” that they voiced in secret with the expectation that those around them would keep it secret? I mean, how are white folk supposed to feel comfortable making racist jokes without worrying that HR will hear about it…wait, what were we discussing again?

The White House’s response to the Sadler story is that of the white guy at work who got called into the HR office over the reports that he’s making “jokes” offensive to work colleagues. All he wants to do is scream that people “can’t take a joke,” that if people didn’t want to be offended they should stay out of conversations that don’t concern them, and demanding to know why the person who went to HR isn’t also facing punishment for failing to speak up at the time the “jokes” were told.

Let’s play a game! Go to Whole Foods, pick a liberal (not hard to identify), cut them in line along with 10-15 of your family members, then take their food. When they throw a tantrum, remind them of their special affinity for illegal immigration. Have fun!

Again, I though illegal aliens came here to pick our food, not steal it!

As I understand, it involved changing the “US Consulate, Jerusalem” to read “US Embassy, Jerusalem” while leaving the bulk of operations in Tel Aviv.

Jeremy Bash on MSNBC made a point about the history of where the U.S.embassy ended up.

In 1949 when the United States recognized the state of Israel there was so much fighting going on the U.S. was forced to set up their embassy in Tel Aviv. So, apparently Jerusalem was always the intended location all along.

This I did not know.

Times and politics change, as presidents since then have come to recognize that the importance of Jerusalem to so many peoples and cultures makes identifying it as the unofficial capital of any one country as a bad idea.

and then there is this odd bit of legislation from 1995

Jerusalem Embassy Act

The Act recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and called for Jerusalem to remain an undivided city. Its purpose was to set aside funds for the relocation of the Embassy of the United States in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, by May 31, 1999. For this purpose it withheld 50% of the funds appropriated to the State Department specifically for “Acquisition and Maintenance of Buildings Abroad” as allocated in fiscal year 1999 until the United States Embassy in Jerusalem had officially opened.[4] Israel’s declared capital is Jerusalem, but this is not internationally recognized, pending final status talks in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Despite passage, the law allowed the President to invoke a six-month waiver of the application of the law, and reissue the waiver every six months on “national security” grounds. The waiver was repeatedly invoked by Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama.[5] President Donald Trump signed a waiver in June 2017. On June 5, 2017, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution commemorating the 50th anniversary of reunification of Jerusalem by 90-0. The resolution reaffirmed the Jerusalem Embassy Act and called upon the President and all United States officials to abide by its provisions.[6] On December 6, 2017, Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,[7] and ordered the planning of the relocation of the embassy.[8][9] However, following the announcement, Trump signed an embassy waiver again, delaying the move, as mandated by the Act, by at least six months.[10][11] Legally, however, the U.S. embassy can be moved at any time without reliance on the Act.

Margot Kidder, the vivacious actress who played Lois Lane opposite Christopher Reeve in the Superman movies and then waged a public battle with bipolar disorder, has died, her manager, Camilla Fluxman Pines, confirmed to USA TODAY. She was 69.

Fluxman Pines told USA TODAY that Kidman “died peacefully in her sleep Sunday.” She did not give the cause of death.

Also, anybody familiar with government accounting knows that that “initial” word basically means that estimate is going to acquire a minimum of 3 zeroes before it’s all over. Look for a lot of “upgrades” and “renovations” in the near future.

Wow. That’s kinda amazing.

The type of volcanic eruption for Hawaiian volcanoes are usually very basalt-heavy, meaning they tend to be fluid and not particularly explosive (whereas St. Helens type eruptions have more water vapor and gasses, are silic-like and are naturally explosive). To see explosive eruptions there is kinda wild.

My mom got hugely hooked on video games with Pacman/Ms Pacman when she and my dad stayed at our place to take care of the birds and other critters when my husband and I were out of town. After that our menfolk claimed to be Pacman widowers cuz they couldn’t get Mom and I off the floor with our controllers in front of the TV whenever we got together. Mom was also brutal in River Raid and played a mean game of video golf. What makes it amusing is that my mom was over 60 and was a very elegant, refined woman… until she got that controller in her hands. Then she was sittin’ cross-legged on the floor and swearing like her tomboy daughter.

Brings back some very sweet memories. Thank you. :)

Honestly, what annoys me most is that they have very bad Cuban accents. There were a few Cuban American actors on that film. And it was just before Andy Garcia got his start, so I’m not entirely sure I could actually name someone. Put it this way, if that movie got (re)made today (since it was a remake anyway), and they still went with Scarface being Hispanic, I think the casting director would be much more aware of what they were doing.

Put that in spoiler tags, or I’ll throw up forever.

For just $70, you could purchase a gold-plated coin, of no monetary value, with Donald Trump’s face on it.

Sort of an apt description of everything yam, no?

The Israeli Mikdash Educational Center announced it would mint the “Temple Coin” featuring Trump alongside King Cyrus to mark the embassy opening.

I don’t know anything about this group—do they do anything of value (their website didn’t really help me much)

My fucking asshole governor Bruce Rauner wants to reinstate the death penalty with “protections”. Thank dog it’ll go nowhere. But knowing the wrongful conviction rate here? Fuck him.

Rauner is trying to prove his Republican creds; first by vetoing modest gun control legislation, now by wanting to return people to death row. Of course, it was our last Republican governor who emptied death row by commuting sentences.

Let’s hope in the ongoing battle of the billionaires for Illinois governor, we will elect the Democratic contender this November.

One good thing to come out of today’s events. The paleo-con Jew-haters and Israel-bashers in the Lubbock Republican Party must be feeling pretty lonely and abandoned just now.
One of the authors of the infamous 2012 Republican Party platform once came on the radio show, wound himself up and started into a screed about the Mossad blowing up the World Trade Center in 1993. His evidence? “The Mossad does terrrrible things! Terrrrrrible things!” The same idiot also called once and asked a minister who was on as a guest to comment on the validity of the claim that the Bible had promised that land to Jews. This was out of the blue. The subject was not even the Bible per se, let alone any specific aspect of alleged prophecy. The blind-sided preacher was naturally a little confused, as which point the psycho crowed triumphantly, “So, there is no Biblical warrant for the existence of Israel!” He’s also the one who claims we were wrong in World War II even in the Pacific, since “we provoked the Japanese by moving into the Pacific.”
Recordings of these performances do exist if the psychotic bastard wants to sue me.

I have always believed, and still do, that I can support the concept of Israel without agreeing with its government of the moment. It hurts like hell to be at odds with both Israel’s government and the US government. It hurts like hell to see Israel behaving in a way so completely at odds to the ideals we were taught about in religious school in the 70s. It hurts like hell to see the Israeli media being even more propagandistic than our own. (Fuck Sheldon Adelson sideways with a rusty chainsaw, in particular, for his role in all of this.)
