Yep. He called Hitler a messager of God. Fuck Hagee. He’s no friend of the Jewish people. He’s a pathetic doomsday wet dreamer who wants to use the Jewish people to fulfill his sick fantasy life and that’s the case with many of those like him including Jeffress who was also there. That Bibi shows those men more respect than Obama says a lot about Bibi.

The very high mainstream profile the evangelicals have achieved does have a drawback for them. Media complacency notwithstanding, it is allowing a lot of people to see just how crazy and superstitious a lot of their ideas really are. This is not Billy Graham in his prime, or even Billy Sunday. Guys like Hagee and Barton are the leaders of an atavistic cult, a very powerful and dangerous one.

I know that’s terribly easy to think, especially given the impact of Fundamentalism on what passes for Christianity in America. But I would ask for a slightly narrower brush since there are some of us out here doing our best to live a decent life by what Jesus actually taught rather than by what brings secular power and wealth.

Revolver Dadi: India’s 86-year-old sharpshooter

Chandro Tomar, the country’s oldest sharpshooter who has won dozens of championships, now teaches young people.

Uttar Pradesh, India - At the grand age of 86, Chandro Tomar stands upright with her arm perfectly straight, holding an air pistol.

Even in old age, her eyesight does not fail her.

Dressed in a white shirt, blue skirt and a scarf covering her head, she aims at a target from a distance of 10 metres. A moment of pause and she hits the bull’s eye.

This is the kind of stuff that used to be the NRA’s main focus. They still promote marksmanship and competition shooting but it is so buried under their insurrectionist politics that sane people no longer notice.

Wow, a marathon village board meeting tonight.

Much of the village was at the meeting, with an emergency item on the agenda of the May 10 tornado.

Half an hour before the meeting we got slammed with another severe thunderstorm, right after my insurance agent came to inspect my house for my losses in the tornado.

Several people in town still have no electricity, and it would seem that FEMA is not going to support the village, claiming not enough damage in dollars and the fact neither the Federal government nor the state government made a disaster declaration for the county.

The idea that FEMA seems poised to tell us F-off didn’t sit well with the townspeople. (I really wanted to say “you get who you vote for” but that wouldn’t have been very nice.)

Several local companies have volunteered time or equipment to help us clean up, and the trash company donated one of those giant Dumpsters for people to put trash and destroyed property in.

Well, not me! I do what I can when I can. This winter I convinced at 17-year-old worker at the ski area - who turns 18 in October - to register to vote on his birthday. I even offered to go with him and take pictures of it, he said he’d consider it.

Two board members are still without electricity.

After the meeting, I had an interesting conversation with someone from town. She claims she likes to have “no labels” and thinks that as a registered independent voter, it is unfair she doesn’t get to vote for the candidates of the Dems, GOP, or Libertarians she likes (she was saying she wanted to vote for my wife in tomorrow’s Dem primary).

As gently as I could, I pointed out that it would be more unfair to those in any party to have to accept the picks of people who are not members. It would be similar to me demanding a vote on members of the ladies garden club.

Puerto Rico’s governor Rosselló made a disaster declaration for the Commonwealth. Our own state governor didn’t for us (it didn’t affect him personally).

Last year a tornado hit another city in my county (Bayard, population 800). Our state senator, Steve Erdman (R-NE47) made sure to get the governor to declare a disaster right away (because Bayard is his home). Us over here on the other side of the county? Doesn’t affect him so he doesn’t care.

77

I’ll be putting in a call to Mr. Erdman’s office tomorrow and see if I can press him (since I know him personally he’ll talk to me, unlike other Republicans like my Federal senators and representative) to get the government to issue a disaster declaration for the county.

I shouldn’t have to use connexions like “we’re both in the same VFW hall you know” over “I’m your constituent” but that’s where we are.

More of the Family Values party at work. People probably wouldn’t hammer Republicans so much on individual GOPer’s morality if they didn’t position themselves as the arbiters of morality and God’s Own Party.

LORD HAVE MERCY the leaks continue to spill about Vanessa Trump, who is in the process of divorcing the unfortunate science experiment that happened the first time Donald Trump participated in human reproduction. Apparently things have been getting kinda stinky in divorce-y town, and because the Trumps are a nasty family, they’ve been leaking stuff (allegedly!) about Vanessa to the New York Post. For instance, last time we had a story about this, it was a thing about how Vanessa Trump used to date MS-13’s big brother or something, and you know how jittery Daddy Trump is about the Hispanics.

We originally saw this story in Vanity Fair, but don’t worry, because it came from Page Six originally, so we can be PURTY SURE it was leaked by either Donald Trump Jr., or his publicist, John Barron Jr. The new news is that Vanessa had ANOTHER interesting boyfriend before she got trapped underneath a Trump grundle and couldn’t get out for over a decade, and he was a Saudi Arabian Prince!

That’s messed up! Nothing is guaranteed by that declaration anymore unfortunately. But it certainly can tell a story as you expressed…willful neglect due to proximity and other terrible political calculations.

When the declaration is invoked by the State Gov’t official who understands their role in the state-federal dynamic and the response is completely absent or woefully lacking it creates another really significant case of Government neglect.

Its so damaging to the fabric of a really large and diverse nation that counts on these threads of commonwealth support. Oh and we all pay for it too! All of us are damaged and short-changed.

That’s true in a lot of states. It’s also easy to sell to voters who think politicians are simply parasites on the public purse, so why should we pay them more?

We had a referendum on the ballot in the last election to modestly raise a state senator’s pay, which I strongly supported. It went down in disastrous defeat for just that reason (why should i pay more).

The old saw of “you get what you pay for” applies.

Up here in Alaska the members of the Legislature get a per-diem for having to live in Juneau for 3 months.
But, they set themselves up to use the Federal per-diem rate instead of the State of Alaska rate, which is required for all other State employees. It seems the State rate is about 20-25% less than the Federal rate. This is one of many issues they refuse to address in a State that is flat broke. Also, they have a policy where if you live within so many miles from the Capitol you can’t claim per-diem. This policy applies to many small communities in SE Alaska preventing many people from seeking election.

Humanitarian Coordinator calls for protection of Palestinians during demonstrations in the Gaza Strip and West Bank

The Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Jamie McGoldrick, today called for the protection of Palestinians, particularly children and health workers, in the context of demonstrations taking place in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) and for demonstrators to refrain from actions that prevent the functioning of the main entry point for humanitarian goods to the Gaza Strip.

“With tensions high across Gaza and the West Bank this week, it is crucial that all efforts be exerted to avoid further deterioration and that responses by Israeli security forces to Palestinian demonstrators be in line with their obligations under international law,” said Mr. McGoldrick. “Children, in particular, should be protected. Where possible, they should not be the targets of violence and should be kept away from potentially violent situations.”

The lack of protection for health workers responding to the wounded is an increasing concern. Between 30 March and 4 May, at least 169 health personnel were reported injured and 18 ambulances damaged in the Gaza Strip. “It is inconceivable that first responders lack protective gear and must risk their own lives in order to provide first aid to the injured,” said Mr. McGoldrick, “Health workers must be protected at all times and the right to health respected.”

Georgia to Reunite Orphan Fetuses with Mothers (Daily Kos, more at the link):

Remember the recent story about police using DNA from a crime scene involving the Golden State serial killer to search online genetic databases to winnow prospective individuals with varying degrees of relatedness in their search for his identity? In Georgia, state investigators are comparing DNA from flushed fetuses to online genetic profiles to track down the mothers involved.

An article in New Scientist describes the privacy concerns raised by law enforcement’s use of DNA profiles on online ancestry websites.

While most people would be happy to help track down a serial killer, there are concerns this could be just the beginning of police using commercial genetics services to investigate other, less serious crimes.

Or even no crime at all. Aan Augusta, Georgia city coroner who autopsied fetal remains discovered at a water-treatment facility before contacting state authorities to conduct a full autopsy and genetic profile to be compared with online consumer sites, claims that it’s for the protection of women, to ‘make sure that [the mother] is not bleeding or infected and can have her miscarried or aborted child properly disposed of.’

the state of Georgia is now using private genealogy databases to track down women who’ve had a miscarriage (allegedly to find illegal abortion doctors to “protect women”)

HIPPA does not apply if you give your data to a private company not related to a medical purpose. As the article notes, few people would have an issue with using such databases to track down a serial killer as was recently done in California. However in Georgia, they are now using the same to go after women under the guise of their “protection.” Additionally, the state may use commercial services for non-criminal matters while state databases cannot be used that way.

Because if they had not done so much to block access to abortions that there would be no demand for illegal abortion doctors.

This is like the “gateway drug” issue: of course if you make marijuana illegal it is going to bring people into contact with dealers of other illegal substances.

Sometimes it pays to look over old data. One of NASA’s Jupiter probes may have passed right through a watery plume from Europa’s surface.

Scientists have re-examined 20-year-old data from a Jupiter spacecraft, and their discovery may considerably improve the chance we’ll find alien life in the solar system.

The data came from NASA’s nuclear-powered Galileo probe, which the space agency launched in 1989. The robot reached Jupiter in 1995 and orbited the gas giant and its moons, returning some of the most detailed and astounding data about the distant worlds.

In 1997, Galileo zoomed within 130 miles of the icy surface of Europa, one of Jupiter’s largest moons. Galileo’s magnetic measurements of Europa suggested the moon hides a vast, salty, ocean that harbours more water than exists on Earth.

scmp.com

They are proposing a new probe to sample those plumes, which may reach Europa in 2025. That is, assuming Trump & Co. have not gutted NASA to the 2x4s.

AGU put up a video about tracking the workforce in geological professions, the problems with education in geology, etc.

Not my field, but I am very interested in their overall observations about college education, workforce changes, etc.

Some things pop up:

1) current political climate in the US is affecting possible job placements in environmental services;
2) automation is affecting white collar workers in the geology profession;
3) expectation for increased global flow of skilled people as Asian nations’ educational programs become as good as those in the US.

The essence of any field of expertise in 2018 is that the world is growing smaller.

This of course runs exactly counter to Trumpism and the hyper-parochialism that is part of the essence of current American atavism.

Train them to find more reserves of oil and natural gas and nothing else.

That was the attitude in the early 70’s and produced a total glut of specialized geologists when oil prices tanked in the 80’s over the Iraq-Iran war because both sides were selling as much oil as they could produce to fund their military.

It also works well in urban centers where people are too busy working on a weekday to take time to get to polls and wait in line while election officers meticulously check voter ID and cause delays.

(a feature, not a bug)

Germany votes on a Sunday. And since everyone already has a registered address (which means you are automatically registered to vote) and a mandatory ID, there is no question of voter fraud, you show up, present your ID and they cross your name off the list.

I know that I am a voice in the wilderness, but introducing a mandatory national ID (one for citizens and one for legal resident aliens) would go a long way to solving a lot of issues and be cheaper and more effective than building and maintaining a border fence…

Well, the border wall Trump proposes isn’t really about voting. It’s about Mexicans allegedly taking jobs in fruit orchards or farm work that Americans would be lining up around the block for. Or racism, take your pick.

My own village had eliminated its polling station before we moved here, so we’ve always used mail voting.

As for a national ID card, that has been suggested before with Evangelicals, sovereign citizen types, and some others flipping their lids (“mark of the beast,” privacy issues, &c.)

Allegedly in states that are implementing voter ID laws, a driver’s license will do. On the other hand, states like Alabama then eliminate the driver’s license offices in places they don’t want people to vote (read minorities).

180 years ago, the 26 year old Charles Dickens used the word “gammon” to describe a large, self-satisfied, middle aged man who professes an extreme patriotism in large part to disguise his essential selfishness and corruption.

Well, the border wall Trump proposes isn’t really about voting. It’s about Mexicans allegedly taking jobs in fruit orchards or farm work that Americans would be lining up around the block for. Or racism, take your pick.

Allegedly in states that are implementing voter ID laws, a driver’s license will do. On the other hand, states like Alabama then eliminate the driver’s license offices in places they don’t want people to vote (read minorities).

A driver’s license (btw Anymouse, I fully expected you to refer to it as a “driving licence” as it is the UK variant) is at best proof of residence but not citizenship. That is the issue at stake here. And the issue with a registered address will be rejected by both Right and Left, but here in Germany it means that you have to show your registered address to sign a lease, an employment contract, open a bank account, register a car or enroll your children in school.

That would make it a lot more difficult for illegals to establish themselves here once they get over the Wall and make the latter all but unnecessary.

Well, undocumented immigrants largely avoid things such as rental or employment contracts already. Bank accounts require such things as Social Security numbers so a lot of people simply avoid banks all together, or in theory could forge a Social Security card.

Registering to vote here already requires some sort of proof-of-citizenship such as a birth certificate. (The point of voter ID laws are to disenfranchise people who are already permitted to vote, as they have already registered but the voter registration card is not accepted as a valid ID for voting.)

Homeless people are permitted to vote if they are citizens, but such ID laws or proof-of-address renders that all but impossible. (It is why I didn’t vote from 1996 to 2007 - proof-of-address was required and “public library cubicle” or “friend’s sofa” doesn’t qualify. That could be fixed with a national ID card, but the same people who are opposed to that are generally opposed to homeless people existing anyway.)

Anymouse 🌹  May 15, 2018 • 3:58:56am

In the 2000 Presidential election, Florida absentee ballots received from deployed military personnel were not counted in some cases. As the result of that election was very close (meaning the Supreme Court overrode state law to give the state to Bush), a bill was passed under the Obama Administration to prevent disallowing military ballots.

In 2012, a proof-of-citizenship bill was advanced in the Missouri legislature to require strict proof-of-citizenship, stripping the voting rights of many deployed military personnel and their dependents.

179
Anymouse 🌹  May 15, 2018 • 4:07:19am

Well, that document that won’t display is from the Congressional Research Service, showing how state proof-of-citizenship requirements were disenfranchising large portions of the military and their dependents deployed. (That’s a feature not a bug, because enlisted personnel tend to vote more for Democrats.)

The point of the GOP saying “they support the troops” is not for the troops consumption; they know that’s a lie. It’s for civilian consumption.

I agree. A national ID card considered as meeting the requirements of voter ID laws in states that have those laws would suffice. As I noted above, that won’t happen.

The voter registration card issued by a state should be sufficient, but states with strict voter ID laws won’t take them.

Texas for example requires certain forms of ID to vote: a concealed-carry permit (no picture) is allowed, state issued college IDs (with pictures) are not allowed. State drivers licenses (allowed) until recently required women to list their maiden name as their middle name. That ID would not match the voter rolls, so a large number of women were disenfranchised. (That was famously shown when a Federal judge was prohibited from voting.)

Conservatives don’t want people to vote in states which are close. It’s why a number of states were refusing Federal absentee ballots (used by those in the military who no longer have an address in their home states).

Europeans grow up in a world in which concepts, symbols and imagery have fixed and established meanings. They have to train themselves to “un-learn” them. In America, we often grow up in a nearly complete cultural vacuum, that allows us to approach these concepts and images from our own personal and subjective point of view.

But a border fence, armed guards, and uncertain ID that allow you to check papers and hold people indefinitely are all (desired) features, not bugs.

In a jarring contrast, Israeli forces shot and killed at least 60 Palestinians and wounded more than 1,200 during mass protests Monday along the Gaza border, while just a few miles away Israel and the U.S. held a festive inauguration ceremony for the new American Embassy in contested Jerusalem.

It was by far the deadliest day of cross-border violence since a devastating 2014 war between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers, and further dimmed the already bleak prospects for President Donald Trump’s hoped-for peace plan.

Well, we have been calling them out for this for a long time. If the press won’t print or broadcast that, we have to come up with better methods.

There was a husband-and-wife team who went by the name “Saturday Chores” to counter-protest forced birthers at a particular clinic which was being harassed. They eventually raised enough money to erect a privacy fence around the clinic to end the harassment.

They inspired a movement of people in other towns taking to the streets with absurd protest signs making fun of anti-choicers.

The Only Moral Abortion Is My Abortion (British Columbia’s Pro-Choice Action Network)

Somewhat dated, but a series of stories of forced birthers going to clinic staff to get abortions and rationalising why theirs are important but everyone else is a baby-killer.

In many of the stories, they would be back on the sidewalk the next day calling women “baby killers.”

One story is about a university so-called pro-life group campus president getting an abortion.

Another is from a doctor who considers being anti-choice a position which indicates that when the person demands (and they frequently demand) and abortion they are not of their right mind, and refuse said abortions. No pro-choicer is ever going to sue a clinic for failure to provide an abortion.

Columbus attempts to pass some city ordinances on gun control and of course an Ohio gun group goes off. (I tried posting the dang video, but for some reason the embed code would not work with Charles’ tool. Not sure why)

TV10 - Columbus passes “common sense” gun laws; organizations look at possible legal action

COLUMBUS, Ohio
After Columbus City Council approved what members call “common sense” gun laws, Monday, President Shannon Hardin gave this statement:

“This package was about keeping our community safe. It’s about doing what we can do as a city to make sure that we are abating gun violence in Columbus.”

Monday evening, Chuck LaRosa with Ohioans for Concealed Carry gave this statement:

“We’ve already been in touch with our attorneys and we believe there may be numerous actionable violations of state law.”

LaRosa says the organization is looking carefully at what was passed and will plan its next steps, which could include legal action.

Council passed ordinances that close the gaps between state and federal weapons laws, including the banning of bump stocks.

LaRosa says that’s illegal.

He says Ohio’s Revised Code 9.68 that deals with the right to bear arms states a person may own, possess, purchase or sell any firearm, part of a firearm, its ammunition and it’s components.

LaRosa says a bump stock is a component.

“By banning the bump stock, they’re banning what the ATF [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] has long-determined, many times determined to be a gun component,” he said.

The city also says no imitation guns can be sold to minors. LaRosa says that only adds to the “illusion of the forbidden fruit” to children.

Also, the new laws would protect victims of domestic violence, which can take away firearms from those involved in a domestic violence situation, or a violation of a protection order.

“What we have is a comprehensive plan that really speaks to neighborhood safety and community safety,” Hardin said.

Hardin says out of 143 homicides in Columbus in 2017, 80 percent of those involved guns. He did not say, however, how many could have been prevented if laws like these were in place.

“Did he say anything about how many youngsters were killed in cars,” LaRosa asked. “Or, what they’re doing about that? It’s many times more than what’s happening with guns.”

The city is prohibiting gun sales in residential areas and going after properties where a felony offense has happened.

“We believe that it is important for the city to step up and to act and to do what we can and to keep neighborhoods safe,” Hardin said. “And, we believe that this plan is a good step in that direction.”

Four ordinances. Eleven policies looking to make Columbus safer, but some fear it’s at too steep a price.

“The city should not be allowed to violate what is an enumerated right in the U. S. Constitution and the State Constitution,” LaRosa said.

I know that’s terribly easy to think, especially given the impact of Fundamentalism on what passes for Christianity in America. But I would ask for a slightly narrower brush since there are some of us out here doing our best to live a decent life by what Jesus actually taught rather than by what brings secular power and wealth.

The being nice to others thing in Liberal Christianity is fine, but the bottom line is it’s a religion that teaches that people who adhere to it will be rewarded while people who don’t will be punished for all eternity. That’s not OK.

No. Not all of us do.

Look up Universalism. Look up “Love Wins”. I personally believe in god but do not believe in heaven or an afterlife. I do what I do without hope of heaven or fear of hell - I do it because I believe it is the right thing to do, taught by the son of man. I do not believe that I am alone in this attitude.

Too much generalization. If you are talking about Fundamentalist, literalist Christians, then you are correct.

But I have also met some Christians who simply live and witness a humane worldview and are not too terribly concerned about the rewards or sufferings of the afterlife.

He says he has contacted the FBI, but this is cryptocurrency. Good luck recovering the money bits.

They didn’t lose all their money bits, but their account is frozen while Coinbase investigates, and thus he has no access to the money bits that wasn’t stolen.

I always understand your point. The problem always seems to be in wording that is too general. If you just make it clear you are talking about the hierarchy of a particular church organization and not like you are talking about Christian individuals it might fly better.

And take this as a gentle observation. If I remember correctly you came out swinging hard and it did seem you were putting down individuals that are Christians in an “they are all that way” big sweep. People took that as you are a Christian hater and the rep stuck.

Lately you have tried to clean it up and talk about the church as an organization but you still have the rep.

As a schooled Catholic, I know that the Catholic Church has made statements about the teachings of other Christian Churches/Denomination and how it can be dangerous and out of line with The Bible…but they also do stupid stuff. Pointing out one stance taken doesn’t seem to work against your generalizations as you want some form of political purity and you are talking about humans.

No organization of humans is ever pure. Impossible. And that goes to all human activity. Just an opinion.

I assume GG was trying to say the NYT could have written a headline like, “Israeli soldiers shoot dozens of protesting Palestinians,” (which in fact would be a better headline), but he tried to be all wordsmithy about it and screwed up.

an even better headline would be “Palestinians dick around for 70 years trying to drive Jews into the sea and all they got for their efforts was a lousy t-shirt,” but presumably it would have had to have been in 4-point font to fit. I have enormous sympathy for Palestinians wanting their own homeland. I would have even more sympathy for them if they’d just kept the large one they had in 1947 and recognized the new Jewish state, rather than going to war with Israel a dozen times and getting their asses kicked each time. The moral is, you lose land as the aggressor in a war, the victor has the right to not give a shit if you want the land back.

an issue surrounding “religion” is that it is such a loose term, it is easy to get a discussion chasing its own tail.

I cannot recall the name of the Muslim theologian who pointed out that most any religion has four sorts of adherents:

1) those who simply identify with the religion as part of their social and cultural heritage, recognize its holidays and general tenets but do not follow it too closely.
(That applies to an awful lot of us, and in that sense I am a Christian.)

2) Then there are whose who follow it more closely but would never think to impose their faith or their views on others.

3) There there are those who would use theocratic laws to impose their views, and

4) others who would use violence and force.

You find a lot of Bigots who assume that all “true Muslims” belong to the latter groups.
And a lot of Mullahs who think the same…

Don’t get me going on the Cubs.

I was in love with that team. In 1968 my brother even took me to a couple of games at Wrigley field. He caught a foul ball in the stands and gave it to me which I had autographed by Ferguson Jenkins (which I showed off to the kids in the neighborhood and promptly got it stolen)

They broke my heart in 1968 and then did nothing but disappoint me for so long after that that. I gave up on them entirely and it was only two years ago that I decided I would even begin to pay attention to them again…

I’m loving this Spin headline: Sean Hannity is Basically Trump’s Wife Now.

Fox News host Sean Hannity enjoys a creepy codependent relationship with President Trump, according to a New York Magzine profile by Olivia Nuzzi. The fact that the president has a close friendship/ unofficial advisor relationship with the primetime cable host who most shamelessly carries his water is already well-known, but the depths of their relationship, as described by myriad sources speaking to Nuzzi, is a little unsettling.

According to NY Mag, Hannity typically calls when the president has left the Oval Office and has cloistered himself away in his bedroom at the White House residence for a relaxing evening of screaming at the TV, usually around 7 pm. It’s not uncommon for Trump and Hannity to speak several times a day, one instance being right after the nightly broadcast of Hannity’s show, before Trump’s bedtime. They typically don’t speak in the morning as to not interrupt the president’s strict regimen of watching at least four hours of cable news and tweeting about it. From NY Mag:

Their chats begin casually, with How are yous and What’s going ons. On some days, they speak multiple times, with one calling the other to inform him of the latest developments. White House staff are aware that the calls happen, thanks to the president entering a room and announcing, “I just hung up with Hannity,” or referring to what Hannity said during their conversations, or even ringing Hannity up from his desk in their presence.

One source claims that Hannity and the president talk as a way to fill the void Melania Trump left given that she and the president reportedly lead separate lives outside of photo ops.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Abortion-rights groups said Tuesday that they had filed a lawsuit challenging the nation’s most restrictive abortion law, an Iowa provision that bans most abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, around the sixth week of pregnancy.

The state’s attorney general said he would not defend the law, which was slated to take effect July 1. Democrat Tom Miller said he based his decision on a belief that the measure “would undermine rights and protections for women.”

Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union are seeking an injunction that would put the law on hold during the lawsuit, a process that could take years.

Republicans want any legal challenge to reach the U.S. Supreme Court in hopes of overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A white nationalist on probation for harassing a protester at a 2016 Donald Trump campaign rally in Kentucky is going to jail after a domestic abuse incident in Indiana.

Matthew Heimbach was ordered to serve 38 days in jail for violating the terms of his two-year probation for the Trump rally incident. The 27-year-old Heimbach appeared Tuesday in misdemeanor court in Louisville and was led away in handcuffs.

Heimbach was arrested in Paoli, Indiana, in March on battery charges for allegedly assaulting his wife’s stepfather, David Matthew Parrott. The men had argued over Heimbach’s alleged affair with Parrott’s wife, according to court documents.

Heimbach has been a leading figure in the white nationalist movement. He was one of the scheduled speakers at a 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He (allegedly) had an affair with his wife’s step-father’s wife? Or his mother-in-law? I suspect they mean the step-father’s former wife or some other woman, but what a tangle.

it’s complicated:

The co-founders of an Indiana-based white nationalist party - Matthew Heimbach and David Parrott - got into a fight Tuesday at a Paoli trailer park after Parrott confronted his wife and Heimbach over an affair, according to a police report.

Heimbach, the 26-year-old co-founder of the Traditionalist Worker Party, was arrested and charged with battery and domestic battery Tuesday by Paoli police. He was freed on $1,000 bond.

snip

David Parrott, the 35-year-old co-founder and spokesman of the white nationalist group, called Paoli police from a Walmart parking lot at 1 a.m. Tuesday and said he’d been assaulted by his wife, Jessica Parrott, 31, and Heimbach, according to a police report obtained by Courier Journal.

David Parrott claims his wife and Heimbach were having an affair, according to a police report. So he and Heimbach’s wife — who is Parrott’s former stepdaughter from another marriage — went to Parrott’s trailer around midnight to see if a tryst was taking place.

No, his mother in law. I believe the FiL and his wife were eavesdropping outside the trailer and caught them in the act.

On Monday night, police wrote, Heimbach’s wife and stepfather-in-law “made a plan to ‘set up’ Matthew Heimbach to see if Matthew would in fact attempt to sleep with Jessica.”

The plan apparently worked — to a point. Matt Parrott and his stepdaughter watched from a window outside a trailer on his property in rural Paoli, Ind., that night, while Heimbach and Jessica Parrott rendezvoused inside, the police report said.

Heimbach’s wife recorded evidence of the tryst, according to the report, then got scared and ran away. Matt Parrott “stayed behind watching the encounter on a box through the window.”

This article is a regular soap opera:

Heimbach’s wife Brooke, 24, said she and David M. Parrott learned recently that Parrott’s wife, Jessica, and Heimbach had been having an affair, according to a statement in the court record from Rachel Rodriguez, a Paoli police officer.

Brooke Heimbach is David M. Parrott’s stepdaughter, according to a court record.

Matthew Heimbach and Jessica Parrott said the affair was over, but Jessica Parrott and Brooke Heimbach made a plan to “set up” Matthew Heimbach to see if he would try to sleep with Parrott again, according to the report.

Brooke Heimbach and David Parrott then planned to spy on their spouses from outside the mobile home where the two were to meet.

Brooke Heimbach got scared and ran away, but David Parrott stayed behind, “watching the encounter” while standing on a box so he could see in a window, according to the police report.

Parott said in a statement that he saw his wife and Heimbach preparing to have sex.

The box broke, however, and David Parrott ran inside the trailer and confronted Heimbach, telling him to get off the property, which Parrott owned, according to the court record.

After Parrott poked Heimbach in the chest, Heimbach allegedly choked Parrott until he passed out briefly.

Heimbach allegedly choked Parrott a second time during a confrontation at Parrott’s house next door a few minutes later, the report said.

I’ll go with ‘complicated’. And scummy.

Yeah, a “stepfather’s” subsequent wife would not be a “step-mother” in the typically accepted sense.
And, you know. It’s fucking Kentucky

It’s The Onion. It might not even be Jared’s body in the picture. I suspect it’s not, since that suit is rather poorly fitted, and I’ve neve seen an image of Jared in a suit that wasn’t a precise fit.

Short of leaving a crater where Jerusalem is, I don’t think there’s a “solution.” Providing economic release to the Palestinians, and telling Israel to accept a state, will piss people off on both sides. They’re the same type of people who here think that raising everyone else’s standard of living is an affront to them.

good grief…

A Republican candidate hoping to unseat California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein may not be the one behind the robo-calls that have gone out to voters spreading an anti-Semitic message, but he certainly appears to appreciate them.

The message encourages voters to elect Patrick Little “to rid America of the traitorous Jews like Dianne Feinstein,” according to KFI News radio. It also says that Little will “get rid of all the nation-wrecking Jews from our country.”

Little denied having anything to do with the message, but when sent a recording of it and asked if he approved of it or renounced it, he responded to the San Francisco Chronicle by saying, “Show me the lie, and I will consider renouncing it.”

On his verified account on the social media site Gab, known as being the preferred platform for white nationalists, Little had posted about the robo-calls, saying, “The robo call was great work, whoever did that.” The account’s page is littered with anti-Semitic and anti-Israel posts.

“Show me the lie, and I will consider renouncing it”: GOP Senate candidate Patrick Little praises anti-Semitic robocalls. The story:

he sort of has a point, these are all expressions of opinion rather than statements of fact

speaking of bible stories and whatnot:

One of our Byzantine Greek service books, a collection of lessons for the Saturdays and Sundays of Lent, contains a very special recipe: not only is it completely vegan, it is said to have been received directly from Heaven. The short note is preserved in a lection for the first Saturday of the Great Lent which records the miraculous revelation of the new recipe as follows.

‘When the Emperor Julian, who ruled the Roman Empire after Constantine the Great, returned to his old pagan habits, he decided to defile the Great Lent of the Christians, and ordered the mayor of Constantinople to pollute all the food in the markets of the city with animal blood. While imperial soldiers were spreading blood throughout the markets of Constantinople, God sent the martyr Theodore the Younger (who died about 50 years before Julian) to the archbishop of the city to reveal to him the Emperor’s plans.’

‘Hearing about the pollution of the food in the markets, the Archbishop was terrified and asked the saint: “So what can we eat then?” “Koliva,” replied Theodore. “What an earth is that?” asked the surprised archbishop. “Koliva is wheat kernels boiled soft and sweetened with honey, sesame seeds, almonds, ground walnuts, cinnamon, pomegranate seeds, raisins and anise.’ When the archbishop inquired who is the provider of the new recipe , his visitor simply answered, ‘I am Theodore the Martyr of Christ whom he has now sent to you to reveal this and provide new food for his people.’

The archbishop immediately announced the new discovery to the inhabitants of Constaninople, who successfully overcame Julian’s machinations. To this day, people remember the martyr and this miracle with cooking and eating koliva.

I bet you that asshole Republican who wants to euthanize disabled people would change his tune if he lost a leg.

The blanket belief that disabled people don’t contribute anything to society is so fucking stupid I’m not even gonna bother offering a detailed response to it.

Murdering the disabled because they aren’t sufficiently ‘productive’ is literally from the Nazi playbook.
