On Twitter, Donald Trump Announces His Intention to Abuse the Powers of the Presidency

Politics • Views: 38,782

On weekends I usually try to give the politics a break and focus on soul-restoring activities, but man. This guy in the White House.

Once again, President Racist Grandpa is simply parroting the latest propaganda he picked up from Fox News this morning.

But if Trump actually follows through on this vow to order the Department of Justice to launch a politically motivated investigation of his enemies, it may very well provoke the constitutional crisis we’ve known he was headed for since his election.

To be honest, part of me feels like this might be the ultimate Wile E Coyote/Sideshow Bob rake stepping move by Trump.

Like, let’s assume the DOJ/FBI does this “investigation”… what are they going to find? That Trump was as dirty as used toilet paper in a pig stye? That the investigation was absolutely legitimate because they had reasonable suspicion of a crime being committed, if not probable cause?

How does an investigation like this not turn into Trump launching a nuclear weapon at his own genitals?

So, two quick thoughts on the California governor’s race:

1. Trump apparently endorsed John Cox (who wikipedia describes as “business man and perennial candidate). I can’t imagine him getting much traction, but apparently he’s got a shot to make the general election.

2. I saw my first negative ad of the year yesterday. Newsom was attacking John Chiang. I find it interesting that Newsom finds it necessary to attack someone who is reportedly hovering around 10% and thus a distant fourth place.

There is one advantage that presents itself to Dems by Rudy faffing his cake-hole. It makes it harder for Drumpf to yell about closing out the investigation NOW!! when your Senior Attorney has stated what the sell-by date is.

I’m seeing a lot of Feinstein commercials. I was going to vote for De Leon but now I’m scared that might open the door for the Nazi GOPer Patrick Little to get in 2nd place.

As for the Governor’s race, I’ve been seeing a Chiang group attacking Newsom over his affair with a staffer. And Chiang’s front group sent out a mailing attacking Villaraigosa’s affair. Interesting is that there are a lot of lawn signs for Klement Tinaj for Governor all over Koreatown. I have no clue as to who that is.

It very well may, but ISTM that The Talking Yam (or whoever is pawing his cellphone) is “demanding” this “investigation” with its results well-planned in advance. I.e. that the Trumpoids are going to “find” (more likely misinterpret/misconstrue, but if necessary, create outright) some godawful-sounding “scandal” (like, I dunno, an FBI agent was spotted in the audience at a Clinton rally) that they are going to scream shrilly, loudly and repeatedly - and have amplified by their tame media - completely “vindicates” the entire Trump campaign; definitively “proves” Hillary’s/Democrats’ criminality, and will “justify” shutting down Robert Mueller’s “witch hunt” forthwith.
With the “rationale” for all of it being basically “Because we said so. Shut up!

If you think you have what women want, but women don’t want you, you don’t know what women want.

If you’re thinking of going for ‘fat women’ or ‘ugly women’ because they’ll be grateful for your attention, then yours is the kind of attention no woman would want.

Great, start with the conduct of the New York FBI office, their illicit leaking to Giuliani, their strategic delay in analyzing the Weiner-Abedin laptop, and the resulting threat of a leak that made Comey think he had to send the letter to Congress. Also include the decisions behind Comey & Strzock’s concomitant concealment of the Russia probe from the public and McCabe’s leak of the Clinton investigation to the Wall Street Journal.

Every opportunity that FBI officials were presented with in 2016 to improperly influence the election ended with them actively choosing to help Trump and hurt Clinton.

It’s a risky move in that once begun OIG investigations cannot be blocked or interfered with by Sessions or Rosenstein. If Trump ends up not liking where Horowitz goes with this he’s going to have to fire him personally, which will elicit another obstruction finding by Mueller.

*Speaking as a chubbychaser from way back, and as someone whose ideal of beauty don’t always match the majority’s, I put scare quotes around “less”.

Not entirely accurate.

Incels view themselves as the bottom of the dating pile, and that women that they should be dating them are instead being promiscuous with the handsome jock types that are higher up the hierarcy, but also hate those women for not being Proper Women who understand who they should be dating. They also hate women that are out their league entirely for being attractive but unobtainable.

A big part of their thing is making a moral judgement about the sexual activity of women, and part of their fixation on “traditional” gender roles and sexual/marital pairings is that they feel they deserve a woman who is theirs, sexually and emotionally…up to and include a fixation on virginity and covenant-like marriage. Their default rage against women…specific or general…is that they’re stupid, dirty whores or going to become stupid dirty whores.

Rhetorically, they indulge in Nice Guy Logic (why can’t you see how I’m okay, bitch?), viewing all social activity as transactional (not just words…stuff like hygiene), Madonna/Whore complexes taken up to eleven, and have a terrifying tendency to view all females only in terms of sexual utility…the last, to a point where it’s absolutely fucking bonkers…garden-variety fucking grossness like obsessing over teenagers (these are mostly adult men talking), but going completely off the wall into incest and necrophilia.

The whole thing is a spiral of negativity where you start out just lonely and sad and the community fucks with you, encourages rage and self-pity and doubling down on hating everybody else. I’ve talked a lot recently about narrativization of reality, and incels sit together and tell themselves a story in which they’re unfuckable, the people they want to fuck are Bad People for being sexual, and on and on. It’s very cult-like, in that you’ve got vulnerable people who are pushed further and further into an unhealthy thought-world that encourages, celebrates ugliness and ultimately violence (see: the celebration of Eliot Rodger). At my guess…a handful of true psychopaths guiding fucked-up people towards more collective narcissism and justifying the creation of un-people that deserve to suffer. But it also has features of the sociology of riots, where people with different thresholds for deviancy (how fast do they succumb to bad behavior in a free-for-all) but their likelihood of crossing their personal threshold is influenced by the (bad) behavior of the people around them.

re: #85 goddamnedfrank

It’s a risky move in that once begun OIG investigations cannot be blocked or interfered with by Sessions or Rosenstein. If Trump ends up not liking where Horowitz goes with this he’s going to have to fire him personally, which will elicit another obstruction finding by Mueller.

At this point, Jefferson Beauregard doesn’t seem to really have any cards left to play. If he outright refuses, then Donny will likely fire his ass on the spot. If he goes through with it, he’ll be right next to Donny when the charges are being read. So he’s chickening out by tossing the hot potato to the OIG in the hopes that when Donny starts hearing things he doesn’t like, he’ll just fire Horowitz instead.

Berniebots are passing out leaflets and doing mailings for Gayle McLaughlin for Lieutenant Governor.

My sample ballot has Danny Thomas, in the #2 slot…Says he’s a dentist…makes me think of the glass table thing…

De Leon seems to be slipping. If the Dems/independents solidify behind Feinstein in the primary, then one of the two Republicans will get on the general election ballot. But according to Wikipedia neither of them have more than about $15k cash on hand. Which in California will cover coffee expenses for the main office and that’s about it.

As for Governor I’m leaning towards Chaing, definitely out on Villarigosa and lukewarm about Newsom at best

Not sure about the down ballot races just yet

I absolutely do not want Villarigosa because of his pushing gentrification in the city that’s only accelerated under useless Garcetti. Not interested in Chaing after his front groups are going after the affairs Newson and Villarigosa had and totally ignoring the gentrification both encouraged.

Newsom is picking up major endorsements here in LA among the County Supervisors and several councilmembers. I may take another look at Delaine Easton but right now I won’t vote for Chaing or Villarigosa but if a Republican squeaks through on the top two I’ll hold my nose if either one of them get to the top of the November greasy pole (homage to Disraeli…).

For some definitions of “tyrannical government” that inconvenience them.

Not actually tyrannical government that, say, spies on people. Or shoots them because everything counts as “resisting arrest.” Or any variation of criminalized relationships between consented adults.

The 2nd Amendment exists to defend their status quo, especially because they know are people are actually being fucked over. Hence every fantasy of having to gun down not government goons but “urban youth” and “angry hippy hordes.”

That’s what defines the NRA distinct even from gun owners like me. Their myth is that they’re the heroes and everyone else is a fool—and thus undeserving—or a malefactor—and thus deserving of punishment.

They aren’t really about the right to bear arms, they’re about discerning who gets to kill and get away with it and who deserves to be shot without anyone being penalized.

In the same vein as Did you know Lincoln was a Republican?, I’ll say that I believe the founders of the NRA meant well. Your sentiments are not shared by quite a few folks on the forced birther side. I can’t get over the fact that Bill O’Reilly got away with encouraging Dr. Till’s murder.

Oh August was CORN TIME back home. Dad would pick up a couple dozen ears for ourselves and our neighbors. And a couple times in summer, dinner would just be corn on the cob with butter and Lawry’s salt or Old Bay seasoning. Good times. Of course, buying the corn from the farm you’d every once in a while find a little critter as you shucked it…

Sweetcorn is the best Joe, no doubt. I especially like that one type that has the smaller almost white kernels. But it is all good.

The way the weather has been so warm and humid early, I’m thinking if you got it planted it’s going to be a good year’s harvest.

I like it steamed. It keeps it crispy.

I remember someone in the previous thread asking about a Roy Buchanan video clip. Bringing back bittersweet memories of the 70s when I saw Roy live in Pittsburgh and Wheeling. Here he is with his signature song—The Messiah Will Come Again.

RIP Roy. You’re still missed by us…Nobody could duplicate what you did with this song!

Trump’s putting the trade war on hold because someone reminded him that he stands to benefit personally if he cuts a sweetheart deal for one thing with China so that he can throw the rest of the nation under the bus.

It was always a scam, but each day reveals that the scam is more vast and involves even more countries looking to have their way with US foreign policy.

Russia wasn’t alone. They’re just the first of many to realize Trump’s easily manipulated.

All these gun humper / gun worshippers don’t seem to realize that the government has tools at its disposal that if he wanted to end you it could do it from 30,000 feet. UAVs. Drone strikes.

Or, if you’re at ground level, they could a battery of artillery or MLRS miles away and drop fire for effect. You’d never know you were targeted until you heard the incoming and by then it was too late.

There’s all kinds of fantasizing about how the lone white guy with an arsenal can stand up to the government, but each time someone tries that, it turns out that they’re no match.

Ongoing observation: their operating premise is that most Americans aren’t Real Americans and deserve absolutely nothing.

Which is why nominally they’re about “freedom” but give no shits about every other variant of “freedom” out there and are instead bound up with social conservative and reactionaries who want to take away basic freedoms…except for their guns.
