They could at least have the dividing line between the two flags do that yin/yang swoop like the South Korean flag. They’re involved, too.

I’d argue that it’s stupid to let non-Democrats of any stripe choose our nominee.

I have no patience for the purity ponies who won’t register Democratic but think they should choose our nominees. It’s not like registering as a Democrat costs more, or leaves you with a permanent disfigurement. If you want to choose the Democratic Party Nominee, become a Democrat. If that’s too hard for you, well maybe you just aren’t grown up enough to vote.

Yeah, it’s just another thing that needs to be undone. When I first registered to vote, Washington was the only state that had open primaries—not even party registration, just a free-for-all. We saw the error of our ways and got rid of them, only to be overtaken by this right-wing push that got them voted in almost everywhere.

Of course, this was helped along by liberaller-than-thous who responded to the “being told who they can vote for” bullshit.

Our Revolution update:

Kentucky:
Paul Walker has won the US House District 1 nomination to run against James Comer. Chance of victory in November: to quote Glados, “A million to one, and that’s with some generous rounding.”
Richard Becker has lost to Lisa Willner for the Louisville-area 35th State House District, 57-29%.

Texas:
Rick Trevino trails 69-31% against Gina Ortiz Jones in the early voting in District 23.
Laura Moser is losing 70-30% against Lizzie Fletcher in early voting in District 7.

Detailed Official Report On Harrowing Encounter Between F/A-18s and UFO Surfaces

What the pilots saw as they came within about a mile of the target was a white, featureless object—no wings, engines, control surfaces, or surface features—that measured roughly 45 feet long and looked like a flying Tic Tac. Commander David “Sex” Fravor, the commanding officer of VFA-41 and the pilot in the lead Super Hornet that day, noted that the outer shell of the craft looked like a “whiteboard.” The object was low over the water which was frothing underneath. According to Fravor, it looked almost like the water was “boiling” below the object, which was moving above the water “like a Harrier.” It then started moving at about 500 knots at 500 to 1,000 feet over the ocean.

The Super Hornet’s own AN/APG-73 radar couldn’t detect the object even at close range. The pilots relied on a Link16 target track—presumably from the USS Princeton—to help them arrive at the target. They even tried making a ‘helmet lock’—using their Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) to slew the jet’s sensors onto the target—but it didn’t work. The aircraft did not have a targeting pod mounted on it at the time of the event

The Constitution, Article II, Section 4:
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

This, it seems to me, pretty clearly indicates that you need to be “The President, Vice President …[or one of the] civil Officers of the United States” to be impeached. Nothing about being EX-President.

Shiplord Kirel, Friend of Moose and Squirrel  May 22, 2018 • 6:13:36pm

Spent an hour and a half this afternoon talking to my daughter about the history of modern Israel. We went through the Zionist and pre-Zionist periods, the breakup of the Ottoman Empire and the machinations of the British, and the origins of Palestinian grievances, the rise of the Israeli right and its curious parallels with the American right, and many other things. What struck me about all this is the central role of religious extremism and its baleful influence throughout. The former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Benjamin Netanyahu have nothing in common, except that both are beholden to religious nuts.
Daughter said she now feels at least as qualified as Jared Kushner to be running US policy and I said that her twin nieces, now 3 years old, are probably that qualified.

But hey, if they want to try to remove him from his lack of an office….

I think they “think” that if they “impeach” Obama, that means he’s removed from the timeline—his two terms never happened. Therefore McCain is the elected president, and since he’ll be dead soon, they get president Palin.

I’ve driven that road many times, U.S. Highway 550 through the San Juan Mountains, one of the most beautiful drives in the world. There’s a short section where if you’re driving southbound, there’s a several hundred foot drop off with no guardrails. Why no guardrails, you ask? It’s in a major slide path, they learned decades ago that if you put guard rails in they’ll get taken out in an avalanche sooner rather than later.

This talk of Mustangs reminds me of I was thinking about cars the other day and wanting something more fun than an SUV with a bad frame that I barely trust to drive 20 miles to the next town and back and came across a 1999 Mazda Miata 10th Anniversary Edition with only 60,173 miles on it. Beautiful condition, down in one of the Chicago suburbs.

$6,990. MIght as well be a million to me but it’s a pretty blue with a blue & black special interior package, upgraded suspension & a 1.8 liter inline 4 putting out 140 hp which is enough for that little lightweight beauty

I drove that road once in a snowstorm, in a 1974 Pinto. I couldn’t see the edges of the road, so I just drove down the middle of the “flat” place.

Had a lot of the same anger and frustration as the punks. The song “Who are You” came out because Pete spent an afternoon drinking with Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols. After he was found in a “Soho doorway” by a policeman, who would let him go if he could safely walk away. It’s really more of a surprise that it was Keith who drank himself to death - Pete was probably in someways the bigger drunk but he had his ax as his other weapon and that probably saved his life.

Didn’t know that then.

I did know that “Who’s Next” could take me to heaven after the hell of school every day.

It was a bizarre event in many ways.

We did not know what happened until we were on the road back to Columbus.

The Who did the whole show knowing what happened and never said anything about it to the audience. I think they were told to keep it unknown to avoid panic, etc.

It stunned us, and then it hit us…we were in a pretty good crush getting in too. My one buddy never really touched ground until inside the doors. He was carried on my and another friends shoulders.

Years later I read an account on the whole incident and it made it clear we were in that crowd at the tragic entrance but I think it all happened just behind us.

Chills all around. Still.

These are people who value the power of signifers even as what is signified is stabbed in a back alley surgery and left to die.

See:

- the Bible
- Jesus
- the Constitution
- patriotism
- family
- the flag and the anthem
- the free market
- Ronald Fucking Wilson Fucking Reagan
- the Confederacy
- chastity

these things are conjured with, like fucking Aleister Crowley shouting angel names to power up whatever goat rodeo magic—sorry “magick”—horseshit he’s trying to pull off.

The Bible says whatever they need to say, closer and closer to changes in real time. Their God is the biggest, meanest prison enforcer in the yard, ready to fucking shank anyone they point out. Their literal reading of the Bible is literally not literal. Nothing means anything.

They’re nihilists and libertines. Their God is dead, and they hollowed his chest cavity out to making a fucking panto puppet.

He has also provided additional evidence that the Idiocracy is galloping rather than creeping up on us.
One site’s patrol car logs showed that one of the guards was using twice as much gas as anyone else even though he was driving fewer miles. Investigation revealed that he was letting the car sit and idle through most of the shift. Supervisors confronted him about this. It eventually emerged that HE DID NOT KNOW THAT THE CAR BURNS GAS WHILE IT IS SITTING STILL IDLING. If it didn’t move, it wasn’t using gas.

Fascinating story: she’s not only an ex-fighter pilot, but a Marine ex-fighter pilot? Good luck to Ms. McGrath, she’ll need it.

However, a couple of things about that story: “massive” turnout? OK, well up from the last round, apparently, but still on,y in the hundreds(?). And the unspoken question: even leaving aside the seemingly rote “Dems in disarray” spin, will the national Party back her? And/or her Dem rival?

And yeah, the GOP take is ludicrous: I realize it’s Kentucky and all, but “far left”? Or is that just the all-purpose insult of the week?

I remember when Mercedes diesels would let you take the key out with the engine idling so you could lock it up and leave it running—reasoning being, they used so little fuel idling compared with a spark-ignition car that the wear and tear on the starter was more significant. I can’t remember when I didn’t know that—I must have been a little kid. So obviously I knew our cars used a lot more gas idling….

re: #256 Jay C

The California insult I thought was especially pretty lame since from what I understand she’s a Kentucky native. She’s the exact kind of candidate that should scare the GOP.

I think it’s bullshit, which of course the pathetic media dutifully reported.

Glad to hear it!
Boring is good when it means the scary drama part is over.
Get lots of well-deserved rest, both of you :)

I doubt the party will have trouble backing her. They did Obama. And I would say that the fack that the Democratic Party primary turnout for a midterm primary is larger than the presidential primary turnout is a big deal.

I read Roth’s “Our Gang Starring Tricky And His Friends” when it came out in 1971. Roth was absolutely merciless towards Nixon especially in the last chapter when Nixon campaigned against Satan to take over Hell.

Dad hid Portnoy’s Complaint, read it lots of times until Mom found the book and she took a peep at it…

Well, at least after she did, you probably never had to eat liver again.

There’s a lot of stupid kids like him in Twitter Wingnuttia but he may have taken the prize right there with that one. Yes, Jacob, encourage the impeachment of a man not in office and furthermore someone far more popular than Trump. I guess that’s why they pay you the big bucks. //

Sides which an impeached politician is free to run for most any office again

Also, remember the gloom-and-doom congressional ballot poll posted here earlier? This is what you see if you look at FiveThirtyEight’s trendlines:

The GOPers seem to have a ceiling of ~41%. The latest gap-narrowing seems to be coming not from a GOP jump, but more of a Dem drop. I would interpret that as losing the low-info/apathetic voters, who seemed to be paying far more attention back in late December (with fresh memories of attempted Affordable Care Act repeal and the GOP Tax Scam - those votes made the difference between congressional Dems vs GOPers as stark as stark could be, and they touched on issues people tend to rank as the most important.)

So…Dems should be able to reverse this decline by reminding people of how congressional votes can directly impact their lives for better or worse.

Author Philip Roth has passed at age 85.

The most famous thing he ever wrote… is still that scene in Portnoy’s Complaint wherein the protagonist masturbated into liver. That his mother cooked for dinner that night.

For a long time when he was first published, folks around Oxford, MS, laughed at William Faulkner as the “corn cob man.”

It’s awe inspiring. The highway is on a road constructed by Otto Mears, he was trying to build a railroad through there! That shit was blasted into the mountain in the 1880s. And now semis regularly drive it.

That’s not even correct. Ignores the Bush years but always has to lie to make himself feel important. And you’re not pro life Donald.
