Lyrics:

can’t we just fly, can’t we let go
breathe in and sigh, just let it show
don’t wait and see, let it be so
can’t we just fly, nobody has to know

the more I look around, the less I’ve found, to keep me here
everyone that I cared for, absorbed in their excuses, has disappeared
it happens naturally, that’s what they tell me
but alone feels just the same
it’s you it’s you it’s only you, that makes it feel okay
so can’t we just get away

can’t we just fly, can’t we let go
breathe in and sigh, just let it show
don’t wait and see, let it be so
can’t we just fly, nobody has to know

the more I look around, the more I’ve found, for us to see
don’t worry what they’d say if we left today, at least we’d be free
responsibility, is fine sometimes
but I want to live young
no matter where we go, it’ll feel like home
ain’t nothing that I need but your love

can’t we just fly, can’t we let go
breathe in and sigh, just let it show
don’t wait and see, let it be so
can’t we just fly, nobody has to know
2x

can’t we just get away, come back another day
don’t worry what they’d say
can’t we just get away, come back another day
don’t you, don’t you worry

Sunday night was great. Live music is great medicine in this era of bad craziness, especially at a place like Red Rocks. Nice thing is, I’m going back to Red Rocks for Ween next week!

My response to empty-headed thinking like this is always the same two words: “Dixie Chicks.”

I’m sick and fucking tired of wingnuts trying to bullshit me about “macro aggression” and how people need to “move on.”

I mean if this was a one time thing with Roseanne, I’m sure she’d probably still have her show but she’s got a history of being a racist psycho. But you’re right. These are the same assholes that lost their shit over the Dixie Chicks saying they were ashamed Bush was from Texas who now want to complain about “SJWs.” Shut the fuck up you fucking assholes.

I’d say the context of “believes Holocaust survivor is a Nazi and Secret Jew Overlord” suggests that made it’s not a joke. As does the “Islamic Brotherhood” part of the exact same tweet.

My guess is ABC has been sacrificing rum and gunpowder hoping that Barr would fuck up in a normal way rather than, say, get really public with school shooting trutherism or arcane theories about ritual child abuse. Because you can soft-soap racism and people will…respond like they did.

Whereas addressing that she really means all that shit she’s saying requires engaging with a deeper level of we-fucked-up, and would require confronting people who’ll freak out if you suggest that, say, the George Soros thing is 100% recycled Protocols of the Elders of Zion….

I’m old enough to remember Roseanne’s Green Party run and how a lot of right wingers thought she was nuts (and she was) but she starts kissing Dear Leader Trump’s ass and she’s a “freethinker” and “victim of political correctness.” Make no mistake if Roseanne were even remotely critical of Trump on social media, they’d want her ruined.

It’s worse than Katrina not just due to the number of deaths but because despite the fact I think the Bush administration bungled up Katrina I don’t think ti was out ouf sheer malice. Do’n’t get me wrong. They deserved the criticism they got and still do but the Trump administration’s handling of Maria is is up tehre with how the 1928 floods were handled for African-American communities.

Valve Software on Tuesday evening said in a statement that the developer, Revived Games, and ACID had been removed from Steam.

“This developer and publisher is, in fact, a person calling himself Ata Berdiyev, who had previously been removed last fall … Ata is a troll, with a history of customer abuse, publishing copyrighted material, and user review manipulation,” Valve’s statement said. “His subsequent return under new business names was a fact that came to light as we investigated the controversy around his upcoming title. We are not going to do business with people who act like this towards our customers or Valve.”

Huh. Thought redress was a big enough thing in the 80s that everybody got the word (there was enough concern about passing along internment money that it was fairly well known in the community).

More recent Chinese immigrants sometimes are being pretty damn selfish, using the “Asian American” term for the bigger numbers for political clout, but totally ignoring the needs of SE Asians because they don’t want to be bothered by them. (Not to mention sabotaging efforts of earlier Chinese Americans that helped create that alliance).

re: #85 gwangung

As a general rule, Chinese people see themselves as the dominant culture and race wherever they are. In some ways this manifests as a desire to be white, and to essentially claim white privilege in their interactions. In other ways this manifests as a profound lack of concern about politics, and especially about the needs of other races (which is also, I suppose, white privilege). The Chinese have always enjoyed ‘white’ privilege, and see no reason they shouldn’t have it just because they’re in another country. It will be some generations before they develop a sense of political responsibility and social justice.

As a Jew, let me just say, it takes a long time to get over slavery. People carry that grudge a long fucking time (like 3000 years).

It’s more than a grudge. It’s a kind of social learning that specific kinds of bad shit happen if you’re a (person category 2) among people of (person category 1), and the excuses for the shit they pull are a reflective of a bigger cultural picture such that the information is still relevant.

Which is the big difference between your CSA fetishist and your average African American…the latter likely has an intense cross-generational recall of all the variations of “under these conditions, I could actually get hurt or coerced” that still applies because from Reconstruction on there’s just been more permutations of the same racist premises and outcomes.

Same thing with gender, religion, etc. People that look at the past and see the patterns of how people like them got hurt, and how those patterns fit with stuff they’ve experienced…it isn’t the slightest bit abstract.

Awesome stuff. Your father seems like he was a great man through and through.

He was deeply flawed as a husband, but I loved him dearly. He did two tours in Vietnam and we pretty much lost him as a father when he was overseas. It was all about duty, and he was an absent father. Almost no communication. It was tough to deal with. Especially tough on Mom. This was not unusual in military families at the time. Being in a war and keeping two balls in the air (balancing fighting and family) is and always will be difficult.

My Da wasn’t very good at it.

Neither was Frank. Not long after the end of Viet Nam, Frank divorced his wife, Ellie. My mom and Ellie remained dear friends for years. His family fractured. Two of his kids (Dana and Frank III [Petey]) did well, the other two struggled, including Gayle.

Damn shame. I remember us, a black family and a white family, being perfectly at ease with each other. Our collective parents in the mid-60’s didn’t give a second thought about race. We were all Marines and Marine wives and kids.

What the FUCK has happened to this country?

I wish I knew. I was having a conversation with a much older cousin. I’m 30 as you know. My cousin is like 15-16 years older than me. We were talking about the rise of bigotry towards Muslims and how we really didn’t exploit in our youths. I mean some things have gotten better for sure but there’s a part of society that sees the progress we make and is revolted by it and they got someone in Trump who shares that.

Ngô Đình Diệm—our incompetent guy in Vietnam—was a Catholic and did a lot of stuff that favored the Catholic minority and suppressed the Buddhists. The famous photo of the monk on fire—Thích Quảng Đức self-immolating—was about protesting recent violence and riots that came out of Catholic organizations being given free hand to rough up people.

That’s definitely true, but culturally, Chinese don’t tend to have generational racial animus about things like that. What I mean is, the Chinese attitude isn’t, let’s stick together because otherwise white people will profile us and treat us badly. Rather, the attitude is, we’re just as white, we can do that to other people.

I’m still trying to figure out how Barr losing her show is the fault of liberals. Barr exposed to the world who and what she really is. I’m not buying the “Ambien made me do it” excuse because I’ve taken the drug and it didn’t make me do anything other than sleep which is what I wanted it to do because I suffer with terrible insomnia. Roseanne is trying to think of what she thinks is an acceptable reason to excuse her ugliness—it was the Ambien, Memorial Day, yada yada, yada. She can continue blaming the sh*t she put on Twitter on whatever she chooses to blame it on, but I’m not buying it. No liberal took over her Twitter account and went cray-cray. She did that because it’s what she’s used to doing. The only difference is that this time it backfired on her and is costing her plenty—-all of which she deserves. I don’t usually say this, but I’m saying it about Roseanne Barr—-she can go f*ck herself with the longest, rustiest piece of iron she can find in the scrap yard because although many on the right want to blame her losing her show on liberals, the truth is she screwed herself.

Weird-o-rama! The 7 (alleged) pervs were apparently working together to isolate and grope under-age girls. They have been charged with conspiracy as well as the usual perv stuff. Be interesting to find out who they are and how the hell they thought they could get away with this.
Police: 7 men arrested for groping girls at CA water park

ROSEVILLE, CA (KTXL/CNN) - Police in California say several men, who were all from out of town, conspired to inappropriately touch underage girls wearing swimsuits at a water park.

The seven suspects, all adult males who ranged in age from 18 to 38, were arrested Monday on suspicion of committing lewd and lascivious acts on children under 14 years of age.

They were also booked for conspiracy.

Police say the suspects knew each other and were working together to grope young girls in their swimsuits at the Golfland Sunsplash water park in Roseville, CA.

“These gentlemen who were arrested worked in a coordinated fashion to try and circle around one of the young victims and then inappropriately touch them,” said Rob Baquera with Roseville Police.

Police commended the girls for thinking on their feet and helping lead water park security to the suspects.

A Mercedes-Benz Dassault Falcon 7X”……..

Jesse Duplantis, a televangelist with viewers across the globe, says God told him he needs a new jet.

Specifically, God told Duplantis he needs a Dassault Falcon 7X, a three-engine private jet capable of carrying 12 to 16 passengers at speeds up to 700 miles per hour. The Falcon 7X, which would be the fourth plane owned by Jesse Duplantis Ministries, has a range of almost 6,000 miles and costs about $54 million new, according to SherpaReport (although used ones are listed online for as little as $20 million).

“Now, some people believe that preachers shouldn’t have jets,” Duplantis said in a video posted last week. “I really believe that preachers ought to … have every available outlet to get this Gospel preached to the world.”

In fact, Duplantis said that “if Jesus was physically on the Earth today, he wouldn’t be riding a donkey.”

Jesus would fly in coach. I think I mentioned above how my grandfather actually gave up his first class seat to sit with my cousin and her other grandmother. I mean if he wants to have a personal jet, fine- though that money and how he’s gotten it is fishy as hell but don’t tell us that it’s what the Bible or Christ would have wanted, it’s what you want.

Not just that but the 442nd was among the of not most decorated units of the war.

There were also those who faced prison and ostracism from fellow Japanese-Americans for refusing to serve; mostly, they resented having to sign loyalty pledges after the American government put them in camps and basically let whites steal their possessions.

I knew some Jesuits when I lived in Berlin. They lived in a modest apartment.

Their job? Helping undocumented immigrants get right. And feeding the homeless and housing the homeless, space permitting, during the winter.

And they opened their apartment once a week for a community breakfast….open to all, regardless of race, color or creed.

You jest, right? Trump would not do or say shit except to malign the dead American.

Trump is responsible for the deaths of over 4000 Americans in Puerto Rico and Republicans don’t care. The few deaths during the storm and the immediate aftermath were due to the storm itself, but most of the rest were due to the deplorable response. He didn’t care and neither does the GOP.

Uncle Bill was in Lafayette, Louisiana. It was a predominately African-American parish. Later, he went off to war as a chaplain. I mean look at how the current Pope lives, he lives pretty modestly. Evangelicals wonder why young people aren’t turning to religion. That crap is exactly why. I’m watching this video of a conference organized by Kasparav called “Putincon.” It includes the journalist Arkady Babchenko, who was just assassinated in Kiev. But other interesting speakers as well. One insight: ‘political power is judicial power; therefore, if Putin loses political power he loses judicial power and that means his money isn’t safe; and so he has money through Cyprus, Cayman Islands, etc. that leads to about 20 or 30 shell companies in Delaware….’ In other words, Putin has a shitload of money in the United States. And that means laundering Putin’s money is full-time job for many law firms and real estate types.

Didn’t the original Roseanne end with Dan dying, and then the new one with Roseanne just dreaming it? I like the idea of having a female character wake up to find that she dreamt she was Dan but in fact that she’s married to Wanda Sykes.

re: #219 Belafon

I just saw that there might be an idea of doing something around Laurie Metcalf’s character, Roseanne’s sister. I doubt that would do very well, even before this.

My wife did tell me something funny. Laurie Metcalf, if you don’t know, play’s Sheldon Cooper’s mom on Big Bang Theory. In Young Sheldon, the mom is played by Zoe Perry, who is the daughter of Laurie Metcalf. This has worked out in many ways, one of which being she can mimic her mom’s mannerisms as needed.

My mom was telling me the same thing. Honestly? Let Roseanne and the Conners die. I’m sure there’s a young writer with an exciting pitch that got ignored because ABC thought Roseanne was a good idea.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. Trump’s up to his usual tricks, lying and exaggerating about crowd size at his TN rally, and lying about everything else he does.

That comes on the heels as not only Napolitano but Rep. Gowdy take Trump’s nonsensical ravings about a spygate and state unequivocally that it didn’t happen.

Trump was being properly surveilled by law enforcement. It was to identify criminal acts among those in the Trump campaign and administration.

And guess what - we’ve found plenty of criminal acts, and the more the investigators look, the more they find.

They found people who were undeclared foreign agents. They found improper money laundering and fraud. They found tax issues. They found conspiracy against the US. They found obstruction of justice.

And that’s just in relation to two of Trump’s former campaign managers - Gates and Manafort. Flynn was also an undeclared foreign agent.

Everyone Trump surrounded himself with was engaged in criminal acts. Trump himself enabled and sought out these people because he wanted to further his own business interests, and he thought what better way to do it than sell out the nation to the first bidder (Russia).

Lol… 1st pic of the dog looks like my golden doodle yesterday before the groomer.

2nd pic is close to what she came home looking like - except without the pompadour.

When we got the dog she was basically feral. The family we got her from just left her outside 24/7 no matter the weather. She was matted from chest to back legs. Its taken us a year (this last year Feb 2017 to Feb 2018) to get her to:
1. Not run away from a brush
2. Not run away from a razor
3. Learn how to use the stairs
4. Learn not to poo on the floor at 2 AM
5. Learn that it is OK for her to come in when it is raining
6. Eat from a normal dog bowl
7. Learn that the cat is not her mortal enemy

The dog (Ginny - we changed it from Ginger) is absolutely great with my 7 month old and actually lays at his side while my boy plays with her hair.

Lastly the kicker… her birthday … tax day (April 15)!

This is definitely not 1,000 people, as @RealDonaldTrump is complaining the NY Times reported. Based on my experience seeing more than 250 of these kinds of events, I estimated the crowd at 8,000. Listed capacity for the arena is 9,700 (or 8,000 for basketball games, w/o floor)

Doesn’t matter, though: the NYT should know by now that the Trump regime and its creatures are going to jump with both feet (and cleats) on any error or discrepancy wrt to coverage of The Yam: whether intentional, inadvertent, or simple editorial oversight (or typo). And milk it for all it’s worth in Huffy Fake Outrage….

Fascinating story about the Deir-al Zour firefight, though after reading the New York Times’ account of the battle (linked to by Politico), I’m not sure how much more “detail” Trump could offer, as the NYT piece lays out the basics of the fight pretty thoroughly. Though it was interesting to see the incident in fleshed-out detail: the initial reports on Deir al-Zour had made it sound like it was a simple move by a few companies of mercenaries who blundered into an ambush due to bad intelligence (and no mention of armored support). Not so simple, after all.

Like what and by whom?

re: #456 HappyWarrior
