Roseanne Blames Ambien; Ambien Says “Racism Is Not a Known Side Effect”

Employing the “Mel Gibson” defense for racist outburst has so far, had little efficacy
Culture • Views: 45,990

(scene from Ambien social media team office)

“Dum-te-dum, not much going on with the feeds right now, a couple of people hating on the corporate butterfly logo, no big …

WHAT THE FUCK!!

Um … that’s now how this works …

NEXT: call to Chief of Marketing

“Um sir, we seem to have a problem on Twitter. It’s Roseanne…”

WHAT THE FUCK!

I’m not defending this, but I’m defending this and next Imma gonna attack anyone decent…

So, after saying that she didn’t want to be defended, she started ReTweeting all the dimwits, fucktards and scumbags jumping to her defense …

Lovely people, all of you.

Meanwhile, I’m guessing that over at Sanofil, the entire C-suite is busily alternating between shitting their pants, and hiding under their desks. Finally, someone picked up the phone and called the crisis comms agency, who restored order

… but not before the internet gave us this:

Good to know, guys.

I’m a fairly regular user of Ambien. One thing I’ve learned is that you don’t start doing any kind of evening project after taking it. I’ve also learned that I don’t go off on racist rants. I know that I’ve commented here after taking ambien, and I’ve managed to keep myself from saying really stupid stuff.

Well, that is certainly true of booze & downers, IMNSHO. Sad people become weepy drunks. Angry assholes start fights in bars.

Uppers, on the other hand? Totally different thing. Brings out something from the deep lizard brain that wants to strangle gramma to get $5 from her purse to go buy some more meth. Dunno what the difference is, but I see far more atavistic behavior from the people I’ve tried to help who’ve been strung out on ups.

From downthread, because I saw POTUS-INO was whining on Twitter about Roseanne getting cancelled. He was complaining about apparently terrible things said about him, even though he no qualms spreading Birther conspiracies about his predecessor- whilst he was still President.

re: #335 Sir John Barron

Like what and by whom?

Maybe the reporting on those Birther tweets Trump made, where he openly doubted that the first PoC POTUS was even from the US?

It is my hope that the Trump presidency, and the Fox News-Limbaugh-Breitbart unholy trio that brought it on, is the last gasp of this ugly, nasty lizard brain and magical thinking, and that we will eventually have to wake up and deal with reality again.

Whether we will be able to deal with the smoking rubble of reality that Trump will bequeath us by that point, is, of course, another matter.

Back in the 90s, Roseanne gave a series of interviews in which she revealed she had multiple personality disorder (some strangely named adolescent girl living inside her was blamed for her unhinged rants), and was so tyrannical and random on her show with ABC that producers famously left with a Hollywood “fuck-you” note saying they were going to go to someplace more tranquil and sensible, like Beirut.

Always felt that was unfair to Beirut. Lovely city. Bad in the 70s and 80s, much better now.

29
Khal Wimpo (the extinguisher of tiki torches)  May 30, 2018 • 11:49:19am

Viz: vanityfair.com

During the early days of the original run of her namesake series, she went to battle with its first show-runner over her character’s direction. The combative stories from behind the scenes are legendary; my favorite is the executive producer who placed an ad in Daily Variety announcing that, instead of returning the next season, “My wife and I have decided to share a vacation in the relative peace and quiet of Beirut.”

Not sure if anyone ever diagnosed her, but for sure, she went around using mental illness as an excuse for being a screeching bully and wound-collecting freak.

That subsided about the time Tom Arnold split with her; he had had a bad coke habit in the early 90s, and I always suspected that there was a bleed-over from his bad habits to her erratic paranoid-schiz behavior, because after he left, she wasn’t quite as bouncing-off-the-walls deranged.

This isn’t stupid on display, it’s a basic belief that they should get to do what they want, even with ideas.

Thus disingenuous-ness, shallowness, and falsehood are allowable.

Otherwise smart people do this because ultimately they don’t want to scrutinize themselves: all criticism is a priori invalid.

Speaking of racism, and more specifically the systemic nature of such:

Bombshell study reveals global warming is lowering our kids’ test scores and it will get worse

“Heat effects account for up to 13 percent of the U.S. racial achievement gap,” National Bureau of Economic Research finds.

[…]

A stunning new study of U.S. high school students finds that heat waves lower their test scores, the effect is greater for minorities, and global warming is going to make things worse in the coming years.

[…]

Let me get one of my soapboxes out the way first: Romm is given to hyperbole, and the phrase I put in bold is an example of a misleading phrase. It makes it sound as if there is something endemic to an individual being a “minority” that makes them perform worse on academic tests. Instead, a more accurate way to summarize the findings curtly is this: minority populations are at greater risk for degraded academic achievement, due to rising temperatures.

The ThinkProgress article is based on this:

Heat and Learning

We provide the first evidence that cumulative heat exposure inhibits cognitive skill development and that school air conditioning can mitigate this effect. Student fixed effects models using 10 million PSAT-takers show that hotter school days in the year prior to the test reduce learning, with extreme heat being particularly damaging and larger effects for low income and minority students. Weekend and summer heat has little impact and the effect is not explained by pollution or local economic shocks, suggesting heat directly reduces the productivity of learning inputs. New data providing the first measures of school-level air conditioning penetration across the US suggest such infrastructure almost entirely offsets these effects. Without air conditioning, each 1°F increase in school year temperature reduces the amount learned that year by one percent. Our estimates imply that the benefits of school air conditioning likely outweigh the costs in most of the US, particularly given future predicted climate change.

Bottom line is this: humans learn better when the ambient temperature is not too high.

In the US, majority African-American and Hispanic school populations are often in the warmer parts of the country.

These same school districts are often poorer and thus less likely to have adequate air conditioning.

Increased temperatures from climate change will thus disproportionately have a negative affect of these children in poorer school districts.

Bottom line is this: humans learn better when the ambient temperature is not too high.

In the US, majority African-American and Hispanic school populations are often in the warmer parts of the country.

These same school districts are often poorer and thus less likely to have adequate air conditioning.

Increased temperatures from climate change will thus disproportionately have a negative affect of these children in poorer school districts.

The best weather for learning, working, relaxing, etc is sweater weather.

“Honestly, I didn’t think it was going to get over 100 [retweets], to be honest,” Randall said Wednesday after the Browns’ offseason practice.

As of mid-afternoon Wednesday, he had 777,145 retweets. At $99.99 each for jerseys, that would mean Randall could be spending $77.7 million.

ESPN - NFL owners note Donald Trump’s attempt to influence anthem views

Iframe

Several NFL owners said in depositions that President Donald Trump factored into conversations about how to handle protests during the national anthem, The Wall Street Journal reported.

While testifying as part of the Colin Kaepernick collusion case, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Trump spoke with him about the anthem.

“This is very winning, strong issue for me,” Jones said Trump told him during a phone call. “Tell everybody, you can’t win this one. This one lifts me.”

The Journal also reported that Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross testified that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft had also discussed the anthem with Trump.

While at an Alabama rally in September, Trump blasted NFL players who knelt during the anthem. He said owners should pull players who kneel from games and referred to a player who protested during the anthem as a “son of a bitch.”

That comment drew a wide reaction across the NFL, leading to additional protests before the following Sunday’s games.

Ross testified that Trump’s comments “changed the dialogue,” and Houston Texans owner Bob McNair acknowledged that the protests were financially hurting teams, according to the Journal.

Ross made similar comments to the New York Daily News in March, when he told the newspaper that all Dolphins players would stand for the national anthem. The owner said he became against kneeling when he felt that the message from the players was being interpreted as anti-military.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Kraft are also among the people who have been deposed in the case.

Ralph Reed: 2018 Is ‘Make-Or-Break’ Year For Freedom (to persecute, control, and exploit).

The latest email from Religious Right political operative Ralph Reed gave little indication that Republicans control the White House and Congress and most state legislatures, or that President Trump and the GOP Senate are packing federal courts with extreme right-wing ideologues, or that Religious Right activists are now setting policy from powerful positions in the executive branch:

2018 is an absolutely make-or-break year for the future of our republic…

The far-left is gaining steam and gaining momentum… and if you and I let them continue to steamroll their way to November without a fight, we risk losing the big victories conservatives like you and me have fought for over the last two years.

And worse, you and I risk losing our bedrock constitutional freedoms-like free speech, freedom of religion, and the right to bear arms-forever.

He’s right, you know. This election provides an opportunity to send these charlatans back to the backwoods tent revivals and decrepit storefront “churches” where they started.

ESPN has a story up on that too. Trump’s heavy hands all over this crap. This is all ridiculous.

ESPN - NFL owners note Donald Trump’s attempt to influence anthem views

Ross made similar comments to the New York Daily News in March, when he told the newspaper that all Dolphins players would stand for the national anthem. The owner said he became against kneeling when he felt that the message from the players was being interpreted as anti-military.

so rather than what it actually was.
i became against it because it was being misinterpreted.

He’s right, you know. We got Trump because a lot of his supporters are racists.

I am confused. Is Ben actually admitting that Trump supporters are racist? Or is he implying that firing Roseanne is what leads to Trump voters?

Via Balloon Juice:

Starting Wednesday, some Parkland families are raising money for a campaign to push the National Rifle Association out of politics and ban assault weapons, bump stocks and high-capacity magazines in the U.S.

Following the lead of their children, parents from the community where 17 died in a Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have joined together to form Families vs Assault Rifles, a nonprofit and political action committee founded to be a counterweight to the NRA. Jeff Kasky, the father of March For Our Lives’ student activist Cameron Kasky, says the group is quickly gaining support and has already received commitments from “financial backers” willing to match grassroots donations.

“The NRA purchases for cash money political favors,” Kasky said in an interview. “That needs to stop.”

The organization, according to its website, was created to “remove the NRA from our political system” and fight for gun-control policies by amending the National Firearms Act of 1934. The Super PAC registered with the state and federal governments on May 18 — the same day as a shooting that killed 10 at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas — and evokes a March For Our Lives motto that people should “either change the law or change the lawmakers.”

The parents’ Super PAC is soliciting $17 donations, one dollar for each life lost in the shooting.

Watching local news. I had forgotten, today is Tigermania in Dublin (Columbus Northern ‘burb). Tiger Woods is in town for the Memorial Golf Tourney and today was the pro-am round, He was paired up with Peyton Manning. Big crowd turns out to follow.

Overall though, this event is good because it does raise a hell of a lot of money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. And, a lot of the kids that are being and have been treated are at the tourney today.

Outside that…I am not a golf fan. The northern parts of Metro Columbus have way too many damn golf courses. Where I worked in Powell, there were 6 within a couple miles of our office, including Muirfield (The Course that Jack Nicklaus Built)

Thankfully we do have a hell of a Metro Parks system…but some of those courses would make great additions!

Trump’s rich buddies working together:

How Fox Bodyslammed Rivals to Win WWE Rights

[…]

The elder Murdoch insisted NBCU was “embarrassed by your product.” Fox, he said, would fully embrace WWE, with SmackDown promos airing across sports programming every night of the week, along with a weekly studio show on FS1. More than that, the deal, Lachlan Murdoch told McMahon during a private call at the end of the meeting, would herald the marriage of the Murdochs and the McMahons, rebel outsiders who had built media empires. […]

That pitch sealed the bargain. Starting in October 2019, Fox will air SmackDown for five years, if the deal closes as expected. NBCU will retain Raw, paying $265 million per year, sources say, with the two deals valued at $2.35 billion over five years — a massive increase from the $130 million per year that NBCU currently pays for both programs.

Linda McMahon is part of Trump’s administration. In years prior to the election, the McMahons “gave” 5 or 6 million dollars to Trump’s “foundation”.

Then, after Jared visits the Middle East, WWE lands a $100 million deal for 10 shows over 10 years in KSA, through which in the first episode we see WWE directly airs Saudi propaganda.

That Rupert Murdoch would play the elites-at-NBC-look-down-on-wrestling card fits perfectly into his ability to play to people’s egos. And Vince McMahon has an ego second only to Trump, and reportedly Vince has always had a chip on his shoulder, growing up in a trailer park in NC and that his father was a wrestling promoter.

On top of that, Murdoch is going to pay WWE more than 3 times they were getting previously for their product (2-hour a week Smackdown.)

It pays to be Trump’s friends, it appears.

NBC Universal is keeping Raw, and they tripled what they were paying for Raw and Smackdown. NBCU reportedly didn’t want Smackdown. Raw averages about 3 million viewers (with the range being anywhere between 2.7 and 4 million). Smackdown averages about 2.5 million viewers (and hasn’t been over 3 million this year).

Throw in the fact that networks are desperate for live television in order to sell ads, and it sort of makes sense that NBCU and Fox were willing to pay that much.

I just don’t see the conspiracy that you do. I mean, ESPN just agreed to pay the UFC $1.5 billion over 5 years. That’s $300m per year, more than double what Fox had been paying for UFC (about $120m). The money is in live events, and WWE gives the networks live shows 52 weeks a year.

Maya Wylie on Ari’s The Beat just asked why did Cohen make recordings?

She hints that is a strange practice and the only thing she can think of is there was some type of a criminal enterprise going on and the tapes were needed (like to hold them over someone).

Avenatti says a good lawyer doesn’t make tapes that can come back to haunt you.

I kind of wonder if Cohen knew Trump was an asshole and he did the tapes to have back up of Trump’s actions and to hold them over Trump if needed.

And yes, I claim that Linda McMahon got into Trump’s administration exactly because she had previously given Trump millions of dollars.

There is no evidence that NBCU did not want to keep the additional 2 hours of programming. USA Network in fact is desperate for any show with ratings so it makes no sense to let Smackdown go. I think a better way to look at it is that NBCU cannot afford to keep Smackdown.

If Cox (or bigger long shot, Allen) get through to the general, their best case scenarios in the general will be about 40%. That’s what Kashkari did against Brown. So I’m not sure it makes much sense to vote “strategically” given the fact that the only way the general is competitive is if it’s between two Dems.

I’m not in California. But isn’t this a situation where 2 Republicans could win because they get all the support from their smaller base but the Dem vote is so fragmented that they won’t emerge the victors?

In local races, that’s possible. But statewide, Republican registration is about the same as independent registration (both around 25%). Most independents lean Democratic, so combined with the 45% or so that are registered Democratic, it’s highly improbable that two Republicans get through to the general.

We’ve seen that as a possibility in some Orange County districts that Clinton won and the Republican won the congressional election. But in those races, Democrats have been dropping out to avoid vote splitting.

It’s not so much about the threat of a GOP governor candidate winning but about driving down GOP turnout in federal house seat races.

I mean, yeah that’s cynical as fuck but also people’s lives are on the line.

I boldfaced the parts from the story that I thought relevant to the ego stroking of McMahon.

No, the stories about the WWE/NBCU deal said NBCU declined to keep Smackdown.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that WWE’s Smackdown is being shopped to various networks after NBCUniversal — whose USA Network airs the highly rated pro wrestling matches — declined to re-up its deal.

I would not be surprised at all if Linda McMahon was appointed because Trump knows her. That’s a very Trumpian thing to have happen. And the fact that Murdoch was smart enough to blow smoke up Vince’s ass is about as shocking as the sun rising in the east.

But I think you’re stretching to find a link between Trump being president and WWE getting massive TV deals when the big money is in live events.

Yes, NBCU decided to not bid for Smackdown, if the stories in the tabloids are to be believed.

Still, that does not mean they didn’t want Smackdown. I’m pointing out that it is more likely that NBCU couldn’t afford Smackdown.

Murdoch is going to be flush with assets to redo the entire Fox broadcasting empire, once all the deals with Disney and Comcast finish, whereby he is selling off the content creation parts (movies, television series production, etc.)

The new Fox is all about distribution.

And yes, clearly the hope is that Smackdown will be live sports entertainment, squeezed on Friday between the NFL on Thursday and whatever Fox does for sports on Saturday and Sunday. Murdoch is betting that a 4-night live broadcast series on Fox will do better than the often lame-rating shows that Fox broadcasting is now carrying.

Regarding Linda McMahon and Trump - the past clearly shows us to give no, absolutely no, leeway as for doubt in their motives and means.

Chiang was my choice too but like you said he’s in 3rd. I might be way off base here, but I don’t necessarily think Newsom will go too far from the Brown example and keeping the GOP away from anything above annoying HOA president in the gated community is a priority.

One secret the gun industry doesn’t like to talk about is that there isn’t that much profit on the retail side of selling guns. In California especially it’s a huge pain in the ass in terms of employee time consumed by transaction paperwork (plus you have to come back in 10 days to sign more paperwork for the release) and the margins suck. Their only saving grace is that the industry is Amazon proof, because new gun sales have to take place face-to-face and even though you can buy new guns on certain websites, the paperwork & physical transfer has to be done by an FFL.

Because I’ve never heard about it…

About Epoisses: The first Epoisses was made by monks in the Abbaye de Citeaux, in the heart of Burgundy. It is said that Napoleon liked this cheese very much. Epoisses is a remarkable cheese and follows a complicated traditional making process.

Epoisses making: Epoisses is one of last cheeses involving milk coagulation in France. The milk is coming from cows which have grazed for three months in the meadows of Burgundy. Epoisses is first washed with salty water. The cheese is kept in a humid cellar. After one month, Epoisses is washed again with a mix of rainwater and Marc de Bourgogne’s spirit, two to three times a week.

Tasting Epoisses: Epoisses has a powerful rich flavor, salty and creamy with a pungent smell.

Tasting advice: Epoisses is best combined with a raisin bread.

Epoisses and wine: White wine from Burgundy or sweet wine such as Sauternes. Alternatively, a Marc de Bourgogne’s spirit (French Wine Guide)

More French Cheeses: Chaource, Valencay

I now feel I must try it. Because I’m drooling. Badly.

The ideology that brought the world Rush Limbaugh isn’t allowed to complain about bullying.

They don’t think it is bullying though. That is just liberals being delicate untouchable flowers that can’t take tough talk. .

When did this stuff start?

Ari Melber had a guest on tonight (didn’t catch her name) that was discussing a new book about trolling and online bad behavior and that style. She said it is too easy to blame it on the ‘net and social media because in her studying it, she thinks a lot of it started with talk radio and taught the right the techniques to be what they are online now.

As we know, that brought us the lineage of Limbaugh and Coulter to Benny and Tammy.

I think it goes back even earlier and started with Reagan. Lee Atwater (Stone, Manafort) reopened the door to be loud and proud as bullies…but not to *cough*…hate anyone, just speaking the truth.

(I’ll try to post Ari’s discussion when his site posts tonight’s show.)

We are what we are because our ancestors killed each other, some more successfully than others:

The press release:

Wars and clan structure may explain a strange biological event 7,000 years ago

Starting about 7,000 years ago, something weird seems to have happened to men: Over the next two millennia, recent studies suggest, their genetic diversity -specifically, the diversity of their Y chromosomes - collapsed. So extreme was that collapse that it was as if there was only one man left to mate for every 17 women.

Anthropologists and biologists were perplexed, but Stanford researchers now believe they’ve found a simple - if revealing - explanation. The collapse, they argue, was the result of generations of war between patrilineal clans, whose membership is determined by male ancestors.

[…]

The paper:

Cultural hitchhiking and competition between patrilineal kin groups explain the post-Neolithic Y-chromosome bottleneck

With intergroup competition between patrilineal corporate kin groups, two mechanisms would operate to reduce Y-chromosomal diversity. First, patrilineal corporate kin groups produce high levels of Y-chromosomal homogeneity within each social group due to common descent, as well as high levels of between-group variation. Second, the presence of such groups results in violent intergroup competition preferentially taking place between members of male descent groups, instead of between unrelated individuals. Casualties from intergroup competition then tend to cluster among related males, and group extinction is effectively the extinction of lineages.

Does this televangelist really need a fourth $54 million private jet?

Prosperity gospel televangelist Jesse Duplantis is pleading with his followers, claiming he needs a $54 million jet to help him efficiently spread the gospel to as many people as possible, the Washington Post reports.

In a video posted to YouTube, television preacher Duplantis asked the Lord — and his hundreds of thousands of followers around the world — to fund a new Falcon 7X private jet.

I have the ideal private plane for pulpit pimps. True, it is out of production but it’s fairly easy to build and could be re-started with sufficient demand.

Again, do we really need to bring up how the media would be acting if (for example) Michelle Obama had suddenly disappeared into a hospital for an unknown illness requiring immediate kidney surgery, followed by a total media blackout with no public appearances whatsoever?

I am going with the theory that she was kidnapped by North Korea and will be released when Trump agrees for the US to get rid of all its nukes and North Korea getting an Arby’s.

The deal maker in action.

Maybe the biggest thing that we blindly swallowed was believing that Rosenstein was maybe a good egg?

The sad thing is that by comparison with the rest of that mess, Rosenstein IS a good egg.

Funny thing is, Rosenstein’s memo on Comey was pretty much on target. Comey broke rules and violated norms and it may well have been wise to replace him, if it weren’t for the Russia investigation, for the reasons Rosenstein stated. But the Russia investigation did and does exist.

We find ourselves, in the Trump era, with a lot of people like this - not really good, and under any normal circumstance someone you’d want to see replaced - but under the current circumstance you don’t want to see them canned because of what might replace them. Comey, as someone put it, is in love with his own legend. Rex Tillerson was gutting State. Sessions is undoing decades of hard work on many progressive causes. Rosenstein provided cover for Trump to fire Comey.

What qualifications does Kim K have in regard to prison reform and sentencing? We are truly living in bizarro world. **rolls eyes**

P.S. It’s great that she’s interested in this issue but I don’t understand how she’s deemed so much of an expert that she gets to meet with the “President”.

What makes you think so?

There is no one better to represent the people of N.Y. and Staten Island (a place I know very well) than @RepDanDonovan, who is strong on Borders & Crime, loves our Military & our Vets, voted for Tax Cuts and is helping me to Make America Great Again. Dan has my full endorsement!

I really believe, when the exposés are written about this administration, that ugliness will be revealed about the Administration as a whole, and in particular about Trump and his family.

There is no precedent for the malicious incompetence of Trump, as far as US Presidents go. Sure, some of his predecessors did some very bad things, but not in the type of incompetence that we are seeing.
