That’s exactly what the GOP has always wanted as voiced by Rand Paul. It’s not just gays that they want to have the right to turn away from businesses. I tried to explain that to a POC who was okay with SCOTUS’ decision re the cake baker. He just doesn’t get it.

So I want to know if somebody was tinkering with the voter rolls here in Los Angeles County!

Thousands of voters in Los Angeles County arrived at their designated polling places Tuesday only to find that their names were not on the list.

According to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office, the issue was brought to officials’ attention and poll workers are tracking the occurrences. The error stems from an apparent “random drop off” during the printing of the rosters, according to officials.

A total of 1,530 voting locations were affected, and 118,522 voters’ names were omitted from the lists, officials confirmed in a press release.

Who was fucking with our voter rolls—KKKobach or Russian hackers?

Even subconsciously - if you asked fishfolk, they’d vehemently deny they were racist, tell you about all the wonderful interracial relationships they have, etc. But they’re Trumporrhoids through and through, and whenever they do express their inner racist, it’s never at the same racial group twice. Browns, blacks, Chinese - only Scandinavians, Europeans, and Americans are exempt from their unknowing hatred.

And there’s something that causes people to distrust democratic norms. In the past, this would have been chalked up as a dramatic but erroneous printing of the voter rolls.

Now with all the conservative and foreign tinkering, along with spreading piles of CT, it becomes normal to question whether it’s an error or deliberate.

The first of the latest succession of Our Revolution endorsees have met the enemy, I mean the voters, with the expected results: Jim Keady is losing to Joshua Welle in the 4th District of New Jersey (home to Chris Smith and the only really safe GOP district in the state) while Peter Jacob is far behind Josh Malinowski in the 7th District (winner gets Leonard Lance in a winnable race).

I share the stories of my former employees with my patients. One guy grew up near International Falls MN but the coldest winter of his life was in Jan 1942 training at a sub base in Wisconsin. Imagine a couple hundred tons of steel immersed in ice water. He was saved by the fickle finger of fate in the spring on 1943 when they rendezvoused with a tender, he was transferred to the sub on the port side. His original boat was never heard from again. Another guy was the turret gunner in an Avenger. He was a squadron mate of George H Bush. The worst part of the mission was the landing because your life was in your pilots hands. He never fired his gun because by 1944 there weren’t many Japanese planes left. It was just as well because the gun shook all over the place whenever he tried it.

The worst part of it is that as much as I know of him, I could have known a lot more. He died when I wasn’t even 6 years old from pancreatic cancer (which is my personal vendetta, and I would give all the money in the world if they would make that shit go away). He was “that guy” in the small town my folks grew up in; he could fix anything mechanical, build anything with wood or masonry, do plumbing and electrical, and more. Also, he spent most of his time fishing and inspired my mom to take a vested interest in the sport. I’ll never forget him and my dad standing on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico, with a small 12’ aluminum fishing boat, and he looks at my dad and goes, “You comin’?” Dad was like, “No thanks, I choose life.” Cool story, but I think he regrets that decision now.

I passed that tidbit on to the veterans in my E-mail stable. I thought they might find it interesting.

IMO, the name “Overlord” was somewhat imprudent, from a security standpoint. As you know, a big part of the runup to the invasion was keeping the Germans guessing as to where it would land. They even had Operations Fortitude and Fortitude North that were pure deception and misdirection.

Really, the actual possibilities were Normandy and the Pas de Calais, and the Germans couldn’t really give up the idea that the Allies would choose the shortest crossing. If they had learned the name, anyone with a little knowledge of history would have deduced that Normandy was the target.

It was the Normans who brought the whole feudal system—overlords, vassals, serfs, etc.—to England, and this was the Norman Invasion in reverse.

I can see why they chose it, though—the name and all its historical resonance still to this day makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up….

The Nebraska League Association of Risk Management (essentially, the small-town insurance pool, but it does other stuff) sent along an article about the recent state meeting. It included a presentation about the opioid crisis.

larmpool.org

If they’re not already here, an opiate addiction crisis may be coming to your community soon bringing with it the related crime, work accidents and even deaths. Members of the LARM staff and board recently attended a session at the NLC-RISC Conference in Santa Fe on the national opioid crisis.

Mark Hayes, General Counsel for the Arkansas Municipal League, was one of the presenters. He said that the misuse and addiction to opioids in Arkansas is at a crisis point with health officials there looking for ways to combat the widespread abuse of these commonplace narcotics. He said there are currently more opioid prescriptions in Arkansas than there are people resulting in an average of 12 deaths per 100,000 people per year from opioid overdoses.

“Arkansas is number two in the country in prescriptions per 100 people at 114.6. That translates to every man, woman and child having 80 pills in hand at any given time which includes infants and the elderly,” Hayes said.

Results in the South Dakota Primary will be very late …

Polls have closed in Sioux Falls and other locations in Eastern South Dakota, but don’t expect results anytime soon.

Sixteen polling locations in Pennington County and three in Hughes County will stay open late Tuesday to accommodate voters.

The Secretary of State’s office Tuesday afternoon announced that the locations would remain open for an extra 10 minutes or up to an extra hour and 45 minutes in some areas.

Voters across the state will have to wait until the final polls close at 9:45 p.m. Central / 8:45 p.m. Mountain to see voting returns.

The counties reported delays in getting voters into the polls earlier in the day when they’re electronic poll book systems temporarily lost service.

Other counties moved to paper poll books to track voter registrations and provide appropriate ballots.

A web-based genealogy and DNA testing platform revealed this week that hackers breached its system and stole emails and hidden passwords belonging to more than 92 million users.

MyHeritage said it became aware of the breach, which occurred last year, just this week. The company said that it has no evidence that other sensitive information was taken or that the stolen data was used for malicious purposes.

In a blog post on Monday, a company official said MyHeritage had been contacted by an independent security researcher about a file found on a private server that appeared to contain information from MyHeritage users.

The company investigated the report and confirmed that the file contained data on more than 92 million users who had signed up for the genealogy service before late October 2017, when the company says the breach occurred.

For her first Comic-Con, Mrs. Fish went as Harley Quinn and her friend went as the Joker. I was in the hospital having spinal surgery. They paid me a visit before going up the road to the con, and I have an epic picture of them leaning over my hospital bed with maniacal shit-eating grins on their faces, while I pretend to look horrified. It was awesome and she was hawt.

My son and I have been discussing the DCCU. They are in such a rush, that they are screwing up all their movies. Take Suicide Squad. That move should have been made after a few of the characters were the villains in some of the superhero movies. By not doing that, there was no real reason to care. And their storylines are rushed. They could have started their own 10 year plan, but didn’t. And it shows.

On the Marvel side, Jessica Jones season 1, Luke Cage, and Daredevil were all quite good. The Defenders was OK, and Iron Fist and JJ season 2 I’d rather not comment on. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the winner of the bunch.

On the DC side, the only series I have yet to be engaged in is Black Lightning, but I’ve only seen the first three eps. It should be a dramatic series, given his ambivalence about his powers, but so far the scripts have not been especially compelling. I should check out the later ones. OTOH, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and even Legends of Tomorrow all have managed to keep their storylines interesting, if you judge them as video versions of comic books. Gotham, which is in its own little universe, is by far the best.

JJ S2 veered into subplots involving the other women in Jessica’s life, her BFF (a hot mess), her mother (a hot mess) and her attorney (a hot mess), all of whom I quickly lost interest in by episode 8. I plan to finish the series when I have time, but it’s not a pressing matter for me. Jessica in season 2 has less agency than she did in season 1, and I have no idea why the showrunner decided to turn the series into a superhero soap opera.

Why does every state have different procedures? I assume the GOP stops any centralized administration of voting - which is the most obvious thing to do.
