re: #488 jaunte

Much as I’d love to see The Littlest Rebel get the boot from Justice (I picture Sessions glooming on the curb outside DoJ with the Stars and Bars drooping forlornly from a cardboard box of his office junk), Trump would have be to even more nuts than his worst caricature to think that he could get Jeanine Pirro nominated in his stead. Not that he wouldn’t try, of course (especially if strongly advised against it) - but (just IMO), it would probably end up like most things in Pirro’s career: Epic Fail.

Trump will go ahead and get a photo op and think it’s great for another summit meeting.

North Korea keeps their nukes, their concentration camps, repressive policies, and dictatorial control over every aspect of North Korean life, but yeah, Trump will let a McDonald’s franchise open up.

F that. Snakes… why did it have to be snakes.

My snake story:

Last summer my wife was in the front yard planting flowers (while pregnant) and heard our new puppy yip in pain. She goes the back yard (where the dog was) and the dog was going nuts. My wife casually looked down and saw a 10-12 foot snake (keep in mind in Colorado that is a huge snake) and then the snake started to rattle. She called me frantically and I ran home while she ran the dog to the vet. Before she left she saw one of our neighbors was outside and asked for him to look at the snake. The guy (who is an oil field worker) said he has seen a lot of snakes but this was by far the biggest - his conclusion was that it was the largest female bull snake he’d ever seen and we let it slink away (knowing it would kill other snakes and hopefully the damn rabbits).

In short the dog was fine - but is now afraid of water hoses as she thinks they are snakes. The snake has not been seen since. The bunnies are gone for now.

I live in a residential area. Never thought I’d have that size of a critter in my yard.

After that course of treatment, if they don’t have insurance or have a shitty plan, he’s going to wish he had died, because, here in the Good Ol’ USA, that antivenom will bankrupt him and his wife.

From the Wiki on CroFab:

Leslie Boyer, Director of the VIPER Institute, who was on the team that developed CroFab, said they were “crestfallen” to discover that the wholesale price of Anascorp, their latest antivenom, was too high to be cost effective, even in the treatment of critically ill children. The industry website Fierce Pharma called the product a “drug launch disaster” and “one of the most bizarre marketing tales in the industry.” Boyer said that CroFab, a US drug whose sister product retailed in Mexico at $100, was resulting in bills to Arizona patients of between $7,900 and $39,652 per vial. One person rejected treatment and died because he couldn’t afford to pay for it. Boyer collected data on the cost of production and marketing, and found that the largest true cost to payers, $4100/vial, was that of the legal, regulatory and hospital activities involved in selling the drug. Clinical trials contributed $300/vial, and 25% of that had been paid for by government grants. Other costs were the same as in Mexico.[2][3]

No one should fucking have to choose to die instead of getting lifesaving treatment that would put them in the poor house for the rest of their lives, but it happens all the fucking time in our goddamn Shining City on the Hill.

Trump supporters in general aren’t decieved. They are just evil. They choose their ignorance out of vindictiveness and fear.

They will be, in hindsight, regarded as evil in the same way various authoritarians and their enablers have been defined by history books. Future history books will record that Trump supporters were part of a cult. This cult is defined by their rejection of facts, science, history and general evidence not aligned with their pre-determined ideology along with the worship of a deeply-flawed cultural tribalism known as “whiteness.”

White dominionist Christianity has evolved over the last 50 years or so into a full blown self-apartheid cult that has effectively cut off around 2% of the world’s population apart from the other 98%. And the gap is only widening.

South Carolina manager pleads guilty to beating black worker, not paying him for years (KDVR television)

The NAACP in Conway raised hell after the prosecutor originally charged the manager with assault.

CONWAY, S.C. — For years, John Christopher Smith suffered in silence as his manager at a South Carolina restaurant physically abused him and forced him to work more than 100 hours a week without pay, federal officials say.

Bobby Paul Edwards, 53, used violence, threats and intimidation on the African-American employee who worked at the eatery in Conway, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

It said Edwards hurled racial epithets at him, beat him with a belt, and hit him with pots and pans.

This week, Edwards pleaded guilty to one count of forced labor in the incidents, which allegedly happened when he managed the restaurant between 2009 and 2014.

Authorities said Smith had intellectual disabilities, and was afraid of losing his job.

ICE and the U.S. Marshals Service pay GEO $32 million a year to house, feed and provide medical care for a thousand detainees. “

Yep. Calling Ivanka a Feckless c*** was uncalled for. But comparing her remarks to Rosanne’s blatantly racist (re)tweets is totally ridicules. TBS at least knows this as the video at the top shows.

Also, she wasn’t calling out Ivanka as “first daughter,” (the way the CNN blurb describes it) but as a White House official. Even the Huckabee noisemaker acknowledged that—“…executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network.”

I think that makes a difference.

I’m (as usual in the Trump Era) shocked and appalled at the nasty cheapjackery of this - presumably official (or by AN official) - statement being released by anybody associated with the Department of Justice.

Does this assclown not know/realize/believe that the reason the “violent criminal who forced his girlfriend into a hot oven” wasn’t “turned over to immigration authorities” is most likely that he was arrested and tossed in jail? Where he is likely to remain: immigration status notwithstanding?

This crap would sound bad coming from some RW blog-commenter, but a DoJ official? Unprofessional and disgraceful. And probably something Trump will re-tweet…

Consider Door #3:

Stigmatizing sex work makes sex workers more desperate and more vulnerable.

It’s a win/win/win scenario for reactionaries because they enjoy having power over people. They don’t just want to buy sex…that would make they equal, or even down power, with the sex worker. What they want is a system where they can demand sex (exactly like how they view marital sex), deny it to types of people they don’t like.

This is continuous with what they want from every other social sphere…total license, to both judge others and not be judged, and acting…including fucking…with no limiters.

I’ve a book on my shelf that I never got around to reading. It’s called Supreme Courtship, by Christopher Buckley. Basic premise is that a somewhat unpopular president, trying to win back the public, nominates an afternoon TV judge for the Supreme Court.

An Arizona appellate court, using a very narrow discrimination ruling from the GW Bush era, declares a pair of calligraphers who run a wedding service in Phoenix are in violation of anti-discrimination law (because Teh Geyh).

With the usual Wonkette snark and NSFW comments.

Here’s a link to the case, which I’ve read.

It’s a pretty major smackdown. Basically, the court ruled that Brush and Nib Studio can’t post a sign saying it won’t serve same-sex couples because it would be in violation of Phoenix’s anti-discrimination ordinance, which makes LGBT persons into a protected class in the city of Phoenix. Part of the ordinance was struck down (four descriptive words) but the judges found that didn’t eviscerate the plain intent of the ordinance.

What’s interesting about this case, as opposed to Masterpiece Cake Shop is that there wasn’t a customer in sight—just the notion that Brush and Nib were going to post a sign. I have to wonder if this situation won’t return again after a vendor in Phoenix actually refuses to serve a same-sex couple, whether it be for a cake or for wedding invitations.

The hapless fundamentalism of America…

[Embedded content]

These people are idiots. What they don’t realize is there is enough out there to make Paige Patterson toxic as hell, and by continuing with their full-throated defense of his actions, they make themselves and the SBC look worse.

At this point, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) is staring down a very real possibility of having violated the federal statute protecting student files (FERPA). On top of that, there’s likely civil actions which could be filed against Patterson, his chief of staff, the chief of staff’s wife and the people who published those documents on the Internet (I’m including Norman Geisler in that group as well). Those actions would include invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

But please, please, PLEASE—keep it up. Continue to be asshats only caring about your little tin god Paige Patterson. Not a one of Patterson’s supporters has said anything about the woman (Megan Lively) who came forward. As far as these dingbats are concerned, the only person hurt in this is Patterson, not Lively (whose rape was not reported in 2003), or the unnamed woman from 2015 who he wanted to “break down.”

The SBC annual meeting is going to be a first-class Dumpster fire starting on Tuesday. It’s going to be livestreamed too.

ETA: I forgot to mention that the seminaries (SEBTS, SWBTS) are the deep pockets and could probably be brought in for not properly controlling Patterson.

But these guys are the same ones who tell wives in their churches they have to give it up for their husbands whenever hubby wants sex, even if she doesn’t feel like it. So they don’t have a really strong grasp on consent to start out with.

I also think that he is just a little bit too gleeful about describing the most inhumane things done by several characters. Way too excited about it.

I can remember some of these signs. Since we lived mostly in Colorado and California when I was a child, things like this really jumped out when we went to visit my grandparents in Texas. The “North Carolina State Law” sign is typical language used by businesses that did not particularly support segregation but who were legally obligated to abide by it. Supporters of segregation left off the legal requirement. In Texas, segregation was not legally required in most cases and there were both segregated and non-segregated businesses. In Lubbock, one of the latter (the Leftwich Department Store) had a sign that read “All of God’s children are welcome here.”

Ms. Bankston is really upset at Rudy Giuliani.

juanitajean.com

I found myself strongly inclined to grab my megaphone, go stand in my front yard and holler as loud as I can, “F*** Giuliani! Just F*** that rotten sumbitch!” at all my Republican neighbors until they called the damn police and had me arrested so I could go to jail and get local newspaper headlines so the whole town would know that we should F*** Giuliani. It was a plan. I had a plan.

How many hours has it been since Resident Putin Handupme tried to blame Canada for that White House thing from the War of 1812?

God just shut the fuck up Donnie. While you were fucking strippers, the US and Canada were working together on national security issues but you wouldn’t know that because you don’t think you need to educate yourself about a godamned thing.

White House upset. Must be a minute ending in a number.

washingtonpost.com

The White House on Thursday denounced a campaign ad produced by a Democrat seeking the nomination to challenge Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) that compared President Trump to Osama bin Laden.

The ad flashes an image of bin Laden followed by one of the White House as the candidate, Army veteran Dan Helmer, says, “After 9/11, the greatest threat to our democracy lived in a cave; today he lives in the White House.”

Prime Minister Trudeau is being so indignant, bringing up the relationship that the U.S. and Canada had over the many years and all sorts of other things…but he doesn’t bring up the fact that they charge us up to 300% on dairy — hurting our Farmers, killing our Agriculture!

7:44 PM - Jun 7, 2018

I wonder who Donny Fat Ass asked to give him a new word for Trudeau’s behavior?

Indignant doesn’t seem to come from his limited brain.

Plus, I don’t think he knows what “indignant” means. (Perhaps he meant to say disingenuous—although I doubt he knows what that means either.) But hey, he capitalized Farmers and Agriculture, so we know he means business!

Someone asked (sorry, have been scrolling) if female-focused insults like cunt or bitch bother us more that other insults.

The fact is, there are very few insults for men that are gender-driven and the ones that are do not have the same power. Calling someone a dick is not the same as son of a bitch or a cunt. Cocksucker can hit both female and gay connotations. But a powerful insult for just being a heterosexual white man that is equivalent? Not really out there.

For me personally, don’t care what people call me, says more about them than me. Don’t care if it’s a female-centered insult, most are. Most of those insults are only insults in context….I happen to like female dogs a lot and many people think cunts are fabulous.

So, the fact is most insults are deviations from white heterosexual manhood anyway.

Of course Scott Pruitt will only use moisturizing lotion from the Ritz Carlton, at $32.00 a bottle, and will make staffers drive around to Ritz Carlton hotels to find it. When you’re overseeing the destruction of a federal agency, it’s important to have exquisitely moist skin.

Or the lotion could be for something like this:
