Michael Moore explained it all as early as the summer of 2016. I ignored him at the time as I have generally found him a bit of a gadfly, but he explained that Trump was going to win and why, and it was just a matter of mathematics:
All DT had to do was to carry all the states that the GOP won in 2012 (no problem there) plus carry the four rust belt states of OH, PA, WI and MI. It was just a matter of numbers, With those electoral votes they did not even need Florida.
So they (and their tovarischi ) concentrated their efforts on those four states and won those states by wafer-thin margins and won the election despite losing the popular vote.
Say what you want about Michael Moore, but he really nailed that one.

Macron, Trudeau Say They Weren’t Going to Tell Trump Where G-7 After Party Was (Borowitz Report)
LA MALBAIE, CANADA (The Borowitz Report)—Saying that they were “tremendously relieved” that Donald J. Trump is leaving the G-7 summit early, the leaders of France and Canada said on Friday that they had been planning not to tell Trump the location of the G-7 after party.
Speaking to reporters, Emmanuel Macron and Justin Trudeau said that there had been “total consensus” among non-U.S. participants to withhold information about the time, place, and existence of an after party from Trump.
“The plan was, if Trump asked about an after party, we were going to be, like, ‘Ask Angela Merkel,’ ” Macron said. “Angela was going to totally stonewall him.”
Merkel confirmed that she had planned to tell Trump that she “didn’t think anyone was planning to do anything” after the summit and steadfastly to deny “hearing anything” about an after party.

A lot of lefties think the Mueller stuff is a distraction from the “real issues” with Trump but I really don’t think it is. The fact is the Kremlin has a vested interest in dividing the West. And yes they do use far left and right candidates to push that divide. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of bullshit on both left and right when it comes to Putin. Righties who look up to him as a model of what a leader ought to be and lefties who think Russia has a right to put its nose where we have in the past. I see myself as an advocate for the rights of smaller nations which is part of why I can’t stand Putin and wish him to fail everywhere he goes.
That’s not to say that we wouldn’t need to oppose Trump even if he wasn’t a Russian stooge but Trump being a Russian stooge defines him. It defines his domestic and international policies. Domestic by making us a less welcoming place to immigrants and to our trading partners. International but alienating long time allies. Trump has a lot of nerve. He went after Canada for the War of 1812 but also wants to let go the Russian invasion of Crimea which happened while Putin was in power. And then he lies repeatedly by saying “No one’s tougher on Russia than me.” Trump would sell out Europe to Putin in a heartbeat and that’s why Macron and Merkel especially can’t satnd the fucker.
And here come today’s line of “severe” storms for soaked Ohio.
So…. can we land AF1 at, say, Edwards AFB after looping it out over the Pacific and back? Set up a stage set and tell Dotard it’s “Singapore”? Get Randall Kim to drive up from LA and play “Kim”? Let Dotard “size him up” and send out some tweets saying how well it all went?

McCullah, who is now seeking the Republican nomination for secretary of state, told the Capital-Journal that he was not aware that his card had been used to make the payment. He said he was deployed in Ukraine with the Oklahoma Army National Guard at the time of the payment.
“I was out of the country,” he said. “I was never told about this.”
A credit card receipt from the courthouse transaction shows that the payment was carried out by Kobach’s chief of staff Bryan Harden, according to the Capital-Journal.
A spokeswoman for Kobach said state money was used to pay the fine because “the office is the defendant in the case,” rather than Kobach personally. …”

A few years later, one weekend a B-17 and a DC-3 were at the airport in Madison WI for an airshow. We didn’t have the money for rides but we went and watched them come and go a number of times then went to the hanger dance that Saturday night. They were supposed to fly out that Tuesday but were grounded - Tuesday, Sept 11, 2001…

It’s interesting how using that article or not using that article could get you in a big argument with someone. Ukrainian nationalists prefer it just be Ukraine while the Russian sympathizers call it The Ukraine signifying their belief that they see Ukraine as another part of Russia. I find myself sympathetic to the nationalists since the borders have been defined and Ukraine has experienced Russian control before with disastrous results for the people there.

Ukraine is the correct name of the country. The Ukraine was a Soviet styling.
Crimea is the correct name of the peninsula. Donbass is the correct name of the area of eastern Ukraine. Sudan is the correct name of the country; The Sudan was its colonial name.
On the other hand, The Gambia is the correct name for that nation.

We can’t underestimate too how war exhausted the world was at the point. I mean don’t get me wrong. Hitler needed to be confronted. And I am glad that the Allies did what they did but the people who blindly attack Chamberlain totally ignore how WWI impacted the people of Europe.

Right. I’m just countering the narrative that the Munich agreement was to allow Britain’s military buildup to continue until they were “ready” to face Germany. They were never ready, but they jumped into a much less advantageous military situation in 1939, after flushing away an ally whose defenses the German generals were thoroughly afraid of. So much for military considerations motivating the giveaway.

For some yes. I for one have quite a few things from my late parents. Even though I needed money a while back I never thought about selling them. My sister wanted me to sell everything I had but instead I declared Chapter 13 bankruptcy and was able to hold on to practically everything. Well, keep in mind there’s several layers of filtering going on with those types of shows these days.
One, the idea of the “surprise! It’s super expensive” has changed how people view their old crap, and how they choose what old crap they take to be looked over.
Second, the show is a selection of segments from a cattle run of people getting stuff appraised (I’ve actually gone through the process, but didn’t make it onscreen with the stuff I had brought), so it’s maybe one in a hundred that gets through to a show, and generally at that point the interviewee has some sense that their thing is special, and thus the question about money comes pretty naturally.

Public radio (NPR) is not available here. We do have some music stations, Christian hate radio, and conservative talk hate radio.
Cable service is not available. For those who have the money for satellite, they do have a wide variety of television choices. For terrestrial television, good luck with that, they’re all Sinclair Broadcasting here.
Internet service is practically unavailable (it is the largest bill I pay, more than my electric and gas combined).
The best I can do is inform people by word-of-mouth, because they sure aren’t going to get a straight story from the media here.
It reminds me of the time the Berlin Wall fell. At that time, I was stationed aboard an aircraft carrier, and had a privately-owned shortwave radio so I could get more than censored news from AFRTS.

Watching the latest Antiques Roadshow, which is full of little historical nuggets, … but as usual, the question that comes to my mind is how many of these people showing up with their stuff would still show up if there were not a promise of some outrageous value could be assigned?
Perhaps there is a deeper lesson in here for us… that most people only care about the past if they can cash in on it?
I think many of them are proud of their family heirlooms and just want to get validation of the value. Lots of them say, “well, it’s not going anywhere.”, or it’s going to future generations(who might sell it).

It’s just….I’m amazed how in such a short time, Trump has utterly torched decades, carefully cultivated decades of American diplomacy that even Bush the Lesser didn’t manage to destroy and was mostly recovered by the Obama presidency. At least Dubya, inept and dangerous as his foreign policy team was, pretended to make paeans to diplomacy and international alliances. Trump has, within a year and a half, all but declared the remaining G6 as his personal Axis of Evil. He’s destabilized our entire international influence in a fucking ant’s fart time on the historical scale.
And so much of our country fucking loves it because ‘America First!!!!!!!!’ Except at this rate, it’s going to be ‘America Last’, because we’re going to fuck ourselves in a race to the bottom just so we can say we flipped off the world for our bestie Russia.
We’re never going to recover from this. Not for decades, even under the best case scenario where the electorate doesn’t give Dems a similar ant’s fart worth of time to fix everything before deciding to give the entire country back to daddy GOP.
Going to take a long time for any western country to have trust in the USA again. trump has refused to accept any agreements made by previous administrations. Why would anyone trust another admin when it is so easy for the next one to overrule. Cannot imagine how Japan & SK will recover from seeing their long term defence pacts turned into nothing.

Another reason why the US has lost the long term ability to negotiate with trade or defense partners. trump upended previous agreements/commitments. Who in their right mind would go through this again believing the US would honor their word.

There was a universal delusion among the pundit class in ‘16 that Trump would follow Dubya and St. Ronnie in filling his cabinet with career politicians/diplomats/etc who would dampen any damage he did to America’s standing by translating his brain droppings into “reasonable” policy. Even Congressional Republicans were willing to go along with the crazier of his appointees because he grabbed up men like Jefferson Beauregard to fill out the seats.
It never seemed to occur to any of them, despite all the warnings to the contrary, that Donny was enough of a wannabe dictator that he would start firing appointees that didn’t do as he wanted and cowed the rest into being his willing accomplices.
People also managed to forget that Career politicians/diplomats would not want to work for trump. Under normal circumstances most of his appointees would (and should) have been rejected by the senate.
