And that could make a great set of ads for Democrats in November: “President Trump wants to eliminate pre-existing conditions requirements from medical coverage. has been unwilling to stand up to Trump’s tariff’s against Canada and Mexico that is hurting your farm. Do you think he’ll stand up to Trump to protect your health care? No, he won’t.”

Interestingly, I noticed that there were some problems with Reddit not long ago, about one hour ago. And not just the “Ow!” page which goes away once you refresh the browser - it was sustained, lasting for about a good 45 minutes.

That was a first.

Is everyone missing the obvious?

Large employers with large group policies… their worker bees have no pre-existing condition limitations.

Which means not just anybody with a PEC, but anybody whose spouse or offspring has a PEC, can never leave their job. Ever. They can’t look for a better job, they can’t start their own business, they can’t make waves when they’re forced to work 70-hour weeks with no overtime, or that they haven’t had a raise in 14 years, or when they have to work with poisonous chemicals and no safety gear, or when their boss tries to rape them, or for any other reason. Ever.

OT: Some fun.

This is a DJ mix I made in 2007 as part of an art project called “Utr-Otter” on Flickr. Basically this otter toy travels around the world, and you photograph his visit to your home town. You can see his visit to Glasgow here. flickr.com Not only did he see Glasgow (Cover image is in Kelvingrove Galleries), I took him on a photoshoot, took him to a Patrick Wolf concert, and even took him clubbing to the legendary alt-queer night Utter Gutter.

When he arrived in Glasgow, he came with a mixtape CD from his previous host, so I made this mix for his next host. Some of it is of it’s time (Mylo and Franz Ferdinand were big then.), local bands from mp3.com and Myspace (Saltire, Kain, Gareth Dickson), some clubby stuff (Slam, Sons & Daughters/Optimo), and other Scottish stuff in a modern (for 2007) Glasgow vein. Enjoy!

NOTE- couple of tracks are NSFW (Mylo, Billy Connoly). Franz Ferdinand might also be borderline for some places in the US. [Though it shouldn’t be- Glasgow band with Top 10 UK hit, with sample lyric: “This is what I am/I am a man/So, come and dance with me, Michael”?]

Or maybe, you know, it was just bad satire as they followed the “Challenge” up with this statement:

Newbern commented, “Real activism seeks to win over fence sitters and rebut opponents, not simply spit in the eye of the opposition. Real activists effect change by focusing on political discourse, not publicity stunts. Kaitlin Bennett isn’t an activist; she’s a narcissist. She’s not trying to influence public policy; she’s auditioning for cable news.”

Normally, if you start a new job in one of those companies, you have a period during which you can enroll in medical irrespective of PECs. The effects on group policies from the changes the R’s want to make are more subtle.

Cleverness is not required. NSFW comment on their ancestry will suffice. Sometimes an unrelenting series of questions about what they said makes a good point, and results in some satisfactory squirming, or the wife dragging the husband away before the screaming starts.

Old joke in the humanities… if you don’t know the cause of something after 1900, blame the Industrial Revolution; if before 1900, blame the Romans.

So true. I haven’t been in a physical altercation since my younger brother got big enough to fight back. I pick my battles to keep them verbal. I also know that some day I could find myself over my head. I’m a small, gray-haired white woman who can’t run very fast. I like to argue on my own turf.

I’m not that big and lots of times I don’t think before I jump into it with someone because I.can’t.even. Having a look like I’m crazy and don’t care if I get hurt while I make sure the other person knows they got into it with me works a lot in my favor.

I just meant the Trump specific part of all of this. I mean, if you want to extrapolate back far enough, it’s probably all the Romans’ fault anyway.

Trump started this when he spouted birther nonsense before the 2011 WHCD. He has always been a vicious thin skinned bully whose only goal in life is seeking revenge on anyone who criticizes him. He can dish it out but has no humor or grace in accepting any slights. He is evil and corrupt to his core — as is his entire cabinet (except Mattis). Maybe if Obama had not slammed him so mercilessly, he would not have run. Or if elected, he would not have made it his mission to repeal every action of Obama’s. But who knows?

Any pretense that they have had where they pretended to be OK with legal immigration and only opposed to illegal as well as any ability to differentiate between types of immigration (other than brown not brown) was always bullshit. They are basically the No-Nothings in the 21st century. I’m just waiting for them to start unhinged ranting about Freemasons or Catholics in public now.

As soon as neo-nazis started showing up to illegal immigration protests and they weren’t shown the door immediately, that theater was over. (and this happened way before Trump)

Trump’s approval is up because the unemployment figures, at least the raw ones, are down. That will change when trade war layoffs begin to bite.

The markets seem to be taking the rhetoric in stride. I suspect it’s because as far as actions go, we’re seeing $16B in tariffs for multi-trillion dollar economies — it’s more trade “spitballing” then “war”.

Of course, the markets could drop 10% tomorrow. Then we’d know we’re in trouble.

About two months before he won the Republican primary in New Jersey’s southern Second Congressional District, candidate Seth Grossman told those gathered at a GOP campaign forum on April 21 that “diversity is a bunch of crap” and an “un-American” concept.

In a chaotic series of statements, Grossman implied that America was “great” before Affirmative Action and before women worked and then claimed that African Americans would profit off of stronger immigration enforcement.

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

My favorite Twilight Zone quote is:
“Where will he go next, this phantom from another time, this resurrected ghost of a previous nightmare - Chicago? Los Angeles? Miami, Florida? Vincennes, Indiana? Syracuse, New York? Anyplace, everyplace, where there’s hate, where there’s prejudice, where there’s bigotry. He’s alive. He’s alive so long as these evils exist. Remember that when he comes to your town. Remember it when you hear his voice speaking out through others. Remember it when you hear a name called, a minority attacked, any blind, unreasoning assault on a people or any human being. He’s alive because through these things we keep him alive.”

I think it will be much more than that, and that is only the beginning, the margin that can make or break many export dependent businesses.
Trump’s trade policies could cost the US 2.6 million jobs, Chamber of Commerce estimates

Here’s how the possible job losses break down, according to the Chamber:

134,000 from tariffs on imports from China
470,000 from tariffs on steel and aluminum
157,000 from tariffs on autos and auto parts.
1.8 million from a withdrawal from NAFTA.

Addendum: We probably won’t feel the bite on this until early next year. The GOP is betting on this in the midterms.

a comment by Shiplord Kirel in 2015 or 2016 brought me out of lurking and helped make me the lizard i am today. He wrote

“Any attempt at gun control, no matter how modest or reasonable, will fail because of the pervasive nature of the conspiracy theory that underlies practically all right wing thinking on the issue.”

as to the italics above, - what they want are no consequences. no responsibility for anyone or anything. at all.
- more and more i am convinced that a big fear is that they will “become” one of the irresponsible. i dont mean the deep state is going to manufacture lies and frame them. i mean they will screw up, and thus become targets of the laws made for the irresponsible, reckless and dangerous. because they have demonstrated they are irresponsible, reckless and/or dangerous.
