I really hope at some point we do, in fact have Nuremberg style trials for this administration (including Huckabee Sanders)…although we are not capable of doing it here. it would have to be at The Hague or some such, since we have allowed our own rule of law to degrade to the point that institutionalized torture and preposterous financial fraud (2001-2008) cannot be even investigated. much less prosecuted.

I don’t know whether or not the effort to resurrect Comey’s reputation is because of worry that not doing so will negatively affect Mueller’s case, but it’s absolutely ridiculous and ultimately hurts the FBI rather than helping it. He was not defending the FBI’s reputation, he was not balancing scales, or in any way doing right by the agency. He was playing CYA, worried about the future of James Comey in the event that Hillary won and he found himself drug before the High Inquisitor over reports that he’d “sat on” information that might have tipped the election in Donny’s favor.
Worse, he was selective about his violation of the guidelines and procedures, keeping information about the Russia/Trump investigation secret even as he was leaking info to Congressional Republicans that he knew would in turn be leaked to the press. That alone should be enough to ensure that no matter how “right” he was to stand up to Donny, he was a Republican first and he was looking for his “team” over the future or reputation of the FBI.

When we got Harvey as a puppy he ate soft puppy chow and he had a hard time with the transition to dry kibble so we made a game of it. We threw the kibble out across the floor and he hunted down the pieces to our praise, and ate them. Flash forward 6 years, I put his food down for him. He has rituals that he must follow, I don’t know why, it’s a dog thing. First I must sit down so he can come over and thank me for his dinner. He has an innate ‘Emily Post’ sense of etiquette. He then runs to his bowl and grabs a mouthful of kibble and runs into the center of the room and flings his mouthful of food out across the carpet just so he can hunt them down like he learned as a puppy. Once he’s done that a couple times he can chow down.

Don’t know how many of you have seen the long-running show Grand Designs, but its Australian version presents some pretty wacky ideas.
I’m constantly reminded around here about how well built the pre-WWII houses are compared to the houses from the 1970’s onward.
And the past couple of decades of San Diego area housing has really pushed the faux-item boundary, with all sorts of cheap and useless appellations to houses to give the impression of things-that-used-to-be-meaningful but today are just pretentious imitations.
There is much to be said about the badness of the Madison-Ave driven society, where advertising tricks based on feeding egos have overtaken other ideals, but nowhere is there more long term damage than to the built environment post WWII.
The McMansion Hell blog is so poignant exactly because we all recognize the foolishness of American wanna-be-rich vanity. It’s all so obvious, yet countless numbers of our fellow Americans in the real estate business keep going overboard with pushing bad products, bad designs, bad economics (irresponsible loans, etc.)
This is the America that brought about Trump.
I keep repeating myself - Trump is the symptom, not the cause.
Getting back to Grand Designs and showcase construction: I am struck about how the looks of a property have been elevated over all other aesthetics.
It is so rare to be presented a design and construction about how a house:
1) sounds;
2) feels;
3) smells.
All that matters is looks.
When I watch these shows I wonder how many times I would stub my toes, hit my shin, bump my head, or slip on a marble floor (onto which a bathtub has been placed. for example.)
When these showcases are presented at the end of the show, fully furnished, I see stereo speakers misplaced, television sets in awkward viewing positions, landscapes totally ignored (or worse, destroyed in the process of building someone’s vanity project.)

In an earlier thread, someone posted that Nunes said an FBI agent told him about the Weiner laptop in September 2016. I think there were people in the FBI who were planning to leak this right before the election and Comey mistakenly believed it was better for it to come from him; otherwise the agents would really undermine the credibility of the FBI.
I think it’s hilarious how Law and Order and just follow the law types get concerned when it’s their person in trouble. Manafort was in fact getting time to spend with his family until he decided to obstruct the investigation. There are unfortunately plenty of people, none who the right gives two fucks about who are still in jails without being so much as charged with crimes.. The right’s sickness is who they want us to feel sorry for. A friend was telling me that some hack form the Heritage Foundation wanted us to feel empathy for Trump because he became President so unprepared for the job. No one forced Trump to run for the highest office in the land. Now let’s look at the people who the right never feels bad for;- families fleeing war zones or gangland nightmares. They feel sorry for anti-gay business owners who flaunt that they discriminate against getting called out but never the LGBT parent who fears telling their parent their sexual or gender identity lest they be disowned or sent to a reparative therapy center.

A friend was telling me that some hack form the Heritage Foundation wanted us to feel empathy for Trump because he became President so unprepared for the job.
I seem to remember unlimited whining about Obama’s “insufficient” preparation for the job.
A constitutional law professor, 8 years in a state legislature, 4 years as senator… “the presidency is no place for on-the-job training!!” said the half-term governor of a state with smaller population than most congressional districts. They thought her being mayor of her state’s 4th largest city was “sufficient” — a mayor who had to hire a city manager because she couldn’t do it. I still remember Fiorina or Meg Whitman saying that her executive experience made her more qualified than not just Obama but McCain and Biden too. You’re right about Wasilla. It was smaller than my hometown is. I always said Re: Biden and Palin, Biden entered public life while my Dad’s father was still in public life and Palin first got elected statewide when I started voting. And you’re right about the sneers about the “community organizer” that ignored his time in both the Illinois and then US Senate. Trump meanwhile had no experience at all in government nor demonstrated an understanding of it. I have zero empathy for him. I wouldn’t expect people to feel sorry for me if somehow I got a job as a trauma surgeon and failed miserably. So it’s clear I’m not a doctor and I don’t even possess a science degree.
