Lyrics:

It’s all part of the plan
I’ll have ‘em eating out of my hand
I’ll have ‘em eating out of my hand

Inside a week

The devil’s lost his way
He’s getting weaker every day
He’s getting weaker every day
He thought he’d thought of something to say
Said it till he was blue in the face

I think I’m free

Cause I’m in charge now and he isn’t
And it isn’t anybody’s business but mine
Everybody’s business is mine

And I’ve doing just as I please since I found my skeleton key
God, I love my skeleton key
You’ll never guess who sold it to me
How much I bought it for but believe me buddy I got a hell of a deal

A hell of a deal
The struggle is fake
The triumph is real
(You can never get the rest of what you can never get enough of)

This is all part of the plan
Look I’m a god more than a man
Now I’m a god I don’t give a damn about my soul

So if I sign it away in blood
So I can scare the world into loving me
And I scare the world into loving me
I’ll have turned nothing into something
And buddy if you think I look rough
Y’should see the fool at the other end of deal
(You can never get the rest of what you can never get enough of)

Write me a law I’ll rise above
And give me hell and I’ll make a hell of a deal
A hell of a deal
The torment is fake
The glory is real

An interesting thing in my regional newspaper today about Ford Motor Company:

DETROIT (AP) — Ford Motor Co. plans to release details of its planned conversion of the long-vacant Michigan Central train station just west of downtown Detroit. The Dearborn-based automaker recently bought the 105-year-old building and is expected to redevelop the 500,000-square-foot (46,000-square-meter) structure as part of its plans for a campus focusing on autonomous vehicles.

The station, which looms over Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, has stood empty since the last train left in 1988 . Stripped by vandals and time of its past beauty and value, the building came to symbolize Detroit’s long decline from manufacturing powerhouse to bankruptcy.

The article goes on about the history of the Michigan Central rail station, its demise in 1988 and aborted projects to renovate it, and what Ford hopes to do with it now that the company has acquired it.

Most of it’s only available on Tidal, but everybody can watch the first single. Apparently they’re art lovers. And the Louvre loves them back.

LOL at “Atlas Juggs” but I don’t know who that refers to. Stephen Miller’s mother, or someone else?

My goodness, the Louvre loves them. I did have to roll it back because there was a moment about halfway through where I thought Jay-Z had actually put his hand on the frame of “The Raft of the Medusa.” (Actually, he didn’t.) Interesting selection of works they chose for the video: Winged Victory of Samothrace, the Mona Lisa, The Raft of the Medusa, David’s Coronation of Napoleon. I’m sure there are some I missed.

This case could bring up some interesting legal questions. Does the State have to prove heaven doesn’t exist to prove fraud? If the purchaser believes in heaven and wants to buy a reserved, guaranteed place at the front of the line, has he been scammed?

I think a good defense attorney could have some fun with this case.

Don’t know how many of you pay attention to golf, besides working at a golf course raking bunkers, but I am totally disgusted with what Phil Mickelson did today. He hit a moving putt which is totally unheard of. (Unless you’re JonDaly). I have always thought he was a piece of shit, but this incident totally proved it to me. He disparaged the integrity of the game, disrespected his fellow players. He got off on insider trading charges (because why? He’s rich). Hes got a smug smile which wants to make you want to punch him in the face. Sound familiar?

When I was eight years old, my brother took me to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs sweep the Cardinals in a double header and caught a foul ball int he stands that he gave to me.

I went and got it signed by Ferguson Jenkins.

Made the mistake of showing it off to the kids in the neighborhood in Gary, Indiana.

I’m not sure where to begin with this shit except that this just seems like more subconscious projection. Not that these people think they’re actually witches themselves, but deep down they know they’re compromising whatever vestigial moral / ethical principles they once held. So naturally they have to imagine themselves in some metaphysical battle with supernatural evil to self justify supporting the side that is doing shit like literally getting kids killed through depraved indifference to the absurd ease of acquiring guns, or literally kidnapping children under color of law.

I’m just waiting for the NRA to start buying into that whole QAnon insanity.

It explains a lot about shit like the Pizzagate / QAnon conspiracy theory when you think about it, and how it evolved from the earlier base denial mechanism of the “crisis actor” conspiracy. These people can no longer just ignore or deny the tangible, incredibly visible harm they see happening to children due to their monstrous leaders and policies they’re supporting. So they must invent ways of psychologically coping with that reality, by inventing a shadowy unreality, and filling it with even more sinister forces and ascribing those forces to their political opposition. “Sure, OK, we’re kidnapping children and killing them through inaction but I KNOW that YOU’RE raping them, cooking & eating them and sacrificing them to Ha-Satan.”

Perversely, the fact that they can’t ever prove any of their allegations only becomes proof in their minds that the theories must be true, because only the biblical Adversary could cover his tracks so cleverly. They’ve painted themselves so far into the fascist corner that to actually confront the reality of all the horrors they’ve condoned, all the principles they’ve sacrificed & all the ways they’ve undermined the moral belief system they once held dear would result in a guaranteed mental breakdown.

We really shouldn’t be surprised that the NRA is now warning about witches…

The tarot revival thanks to Brexit, Trump and Dior

[…]

Tarot versus Trump

Ms Vogel credits Dior’s ethereal, tarot-inspired dresses with boosting the visibility of the centuries old practice across the world.

But she insists there are other reasons for tarot’s accelerating popularity.

“Our societies are going through an extreme sense of alienation,” says Ms Vogel, mentioning Donald Trump’s presidential victory in the US, as well as the rise of far-right groups, violence and misogyny.

“People are lonely and angry. Tarot helps them to cope with insecurity in these difficult times.”

Mike Sosteric, a sociologist at the University of Athabasca in Canada, agrees.

[…]

One example of this is the #MagicResistance movement. Every month, self-identifying witches gather to cast “mass spells” on Donald Trump, and use tarot to assist them in the task.

People seem to be retreating into primitive thinking, driven by fear. It seems as though many seek, to quote H.P. Lovecraft, to “flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”

They seek solace in the comfort provided by the illusion of certainty, or hierarchy, or perhaps a top-down social and moral order where everyone knew their place. Society is highly complex and there are many who simply lack the intellectual equipment to cope with an ever-changing - and rapidly changing - world.

We enjoyed a long stretch where expertise was valued because it led to measurable technical and societal progress. Unfortunately the concomitant digital interconnectivity has led to a resurgence of populism where millions of fundamentally ignorant people have found and been reinforced by each other. They have collectively decided that book learning is an effete, elitist, corrupting process and that real knowledge is held in their gut feelings and atavistic reactions.

You can literally see this backwards mentality being articulated intellectually and given a pseudo scientific foundation by Jordan Peterson, who is convincing millions of angry men that inside of them is some mystical genetic reservoir of millions of years of accumulated ancestral experience and motherfucking lobster knowledge. Which is funny because he’s basically just repackaged Carl Jung & Joseph Campbell’s largely discredited archetypes theory, spiced it up with elements from Frank Herbert’s DUNE and sold it to MRA’s as a magical explanation for why men are inherently more orderly and superior to women.

This is the Child Molestation/Satanic Rituals Witch Mania from the ’80s and early ’90s all over again. If we’d had the internet in those days it would have become more and more maniacal just like this Pizzagate bullshit. It was discredited for 25 years, but I’ll bet these are a lot of the same lunatics bringing it back.

It’s all projection, of course, because the only people who believe in Satanic rituals etc., are the ones making the accusations. They need to be thoroughly investigated, except there’s no LE agency that’s not infested by/run by them.

This case could bring up some interesting legal questions. Does the State have to prove heaven doesn’t exist to prove fraud? If the purchaser believes in heaven and wants to buy a reserved, guaranteed place at the front of the line, has he been scammed?

I think a good defense attorney could have some fun with this case.

they falsely represented the tickets as being made of gold. that was their error.

This wave of stupidity also reflects a general change in how we run our society.

We decided that we want the country to be “run like a business” to the point of electing a businessman with no experience in government to the Presidency.

Businesspeople look on education, infrastructure, health care, environmental protections and worker safety as costs to be minimized in order to increase the bottom line instead of as investments in an educated, healthy and prosperous society and work force.

We are paying the price for that sort of short-term thinking.

“…We spoke to nine parents on this Monday, which was the 11th, and these were adults in detention centers outside of Houston. They had been separated from their child between May 23 and May 25, and as of June 11, not one of them had been able to talk to their child or knew a phone number that functioned from the detention center director. None of them had direct information from immigration on where their child was located. The one number they were given by some government official from the Department of Homeland Security was a 1-800 number. But from the phones inside the detention center, they can’t make those calls. We know there are more parents who are being deported without their child, without any process or information on how to get their child back.

TM: And so it’s entirely possible that children will be left in the country without any relatives?

AC: Could be, yeah.

TM: And if the child is, say, five years old …?

AC: The child is going through deportation proceedings, so the likelihood that that child is going to be deported is pretty high.

TM: How do they know where to deport the child to, or who the parents are?

AC: How does that child navigate their deportation case without their parent around?

TM: Because a five-year-old doesn’t necessarily know his parents’ information.

we also saw a deranged climate in which anything, no matter how spurious or unfounded, was promoted if it seemed to harm Obama.

It started with birtherism and went downhill from there.

This didn’t start with Obama. Recall that during the 1990’s, Hillary spoke of a vast RW conspiracy out to get her husband and was mocked for doing so.

From the day Bill Clinton assumed office, the RW, led by the WSJ editorial page, was out to get him. No allegation was too outrageous to be published on their opinion pages, including repeated charges of various murders earlier in Arkansas and then in Washington, starting with Vince Foster’s suicide. The WSJ was eager to publish any charge, since unlike on their news pages, there was no need to investigate the merits of these allegations.

This would have stopped if Gingrich hadn’t succeeded in 1994 in taking over the House and Senate. Congress has that ability, as well as the power to call for investigations and subpeona witnesses. The question is whether the Republican leadership will allow it. At this point, the minority party (and any decent Republicans) can only continue to prosecute the case in the court of public opinion.

Good point - right now, the GOP leadership seems going along with it, though I’m pretty sure they’re getting a little nervous about it, probably fearing that it could generate a major backlash among voters who aren’t Trump cultists.

Still, it’s a noticeable walk-back (to any with memories longer than 24 hours ago) from Trump’s insistence there was never a meeting, no one talked to the Russians, etc.

There needs to be a talk show called “Meet Dr. Lizardo”.

My first question to Kellyanne and Trump’s toadies will always be, “Why are you such a goddamn liar?”

If I could get Trump himself on “Meet Dr. Lizardo”, I’d begin with, “President Trump, thanks for joining us today - it’s always an honor to have the President of the United States on our show. Now, what I’d like to know, and I’m sure our audience at home would too, is why do you lie all the time? Do you have some personality disorder that prevents you from telling the truth or do you just think it’s funny to lie about every little thing? And how do you expect anyone to take you seriously? The world is laughing at you, and you’ve made the United States of America into an object of international ridicule. What do you have to say, sir?”

I’d love to get Stephen Miller in the hotseat, that’s for sure. I could spend a few minutes explaining to the viewing audience “Today, we’re joined by the modern-day incarnation of Adolf Eichmann” and give a brief sketch of Eichmann’s career for the benefit of my viewers.

Then I’d ask Mr. Miller to explain his obvious sympathies for the tenets of National Socialism in a clear and concise manner - and while he’s doing that, I’d be showing the audience graphic images of the Holocaust and its aftermath on a split screen.

Father’s Day 2018.
Got up. Made Tea.

Enjoying the view from my backyard (Jamaica Bay, Manhattan).

Listening to “Teach Your Children” by Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Counting my blessings.

Thinking about dad, but not in a sad way. Death comes to us all. We keep the memories.

In a little while I will hug my kids and eat donuts.

This day should be perfect. And yet.

What makes this day so gloomy is that my government is forcibly removing young children from their parents. Someone is setting in a detention center somewhere and THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THEIR CHILDREN ARE. This is torture. To twist in the knife, the same govt is paying private companies to warehouse these children and using the bible as justification. Fuck them all.

I put “Teach your children” on repeat and made a small donation to the ACLU of Texas. I pray that Father’s day 2019 will be better. Thanks for reading.

Teach your children well,
Their father’s hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you’ll know by.
Don’t you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.
Graham Nash

Thanks for reading

Miller has access to Trump in a way Eichmann never did to Hitler. I have a little in common in Miller in a couple of ways. Close to the same age and our mothers’ families aer from the same town in PA and my mother’s grandparents like his fled a tyrannical regime, his fled the pogroms in Tzarist Russia while mine fled persecution in the Austro-Hungarian. However, while Miller was trolling girls’ track races, I was participating in anti-war rallies and trying to make sense of why we were going to war with Iraq after 9/11 so quickly. One of us got a job in the WH and working for a Senator. i don’t know have to tell you which one did and didn’t. I’m not saying I deserve nor want a job in the WH or Senate but Miller was the protege of Richard Spencer in college and Miller presently advises the President on key issues. That’s scary shit. The same way that Buchanan advising Nixon and later Reagan was but Miller’s got more influence than Pat B ever did. Miller I think will never see any office but the behind the scene types like him are either the people that help make a political leader’s impact on society better or worse. Miller is definitely one of the latter. BTW thanks for the link about Corey Stewart earlier. I think Kaine will beat him either way but every last Virginian needs to reject Corey and vote for Tim to let Stewart and the Va GOP know that we as Virginians don’t stand for this. Sorry for rambling.

I find it nice to see my former Representative (Jerry Nadler) and my current one (Carolyn Maloney) finally doing something besides fund-raising (or the solicitation thereof - my mailbox gets inundated with Ms. Maloney’s promotions regularly every two years). I guess it’s a good thing that Congressional Democrats are taking the lead on trying to expose the Administration’s cruel policies - all six of the Reps trying to get into the Elizabeth facility are Dems from (almost-certainly) safe seats - this stuff definitely puts the GOP on the spot trying to defend the regime’s inhumane policies. Though I imagine Trump will soon be excreting some bilious tweet about Dems’ hypocrisy in protesting family separation/incarceration when it’s, after all, “their” policy….

I don’t know the details of the “immigration reform” bills(s) currently up before Congress, but if funding “The Wall” is the Admin’s (or the House Fuckhead Caucus’s) big insistence: is there a fixed dollar amount mandated, or can Congress just agree on “funding”, and then later appropriate a grand total of $100 a year or whatever….?

The best thing that can happen to Trump, Putin, Bannon, Miller, etc., is for them to live long enough to see all their dreams and hopes collapse down around them. To see that their failure is complete.

Corgan has been nucking futs longer than that. He’s always been looney.

I’ve heard stories from a producer in NYC about how the tracks for ‘Gish’ were laid down by musicians other than the Pumpkins - i.e., musicians that weren’t hammered/baked/downed out of their heads.

Corgan had those songs, and a band (including himself) who were utterly incapable of playing them.

2 million for dirt on Hillary, and they got nothing. If they had even so much as a scurrilous rumor, it would have been out there. Hill’s a choir girl and has been all her life. Which is why Trump keeps yelling “lock her up” all the time. He has gotten no real satisfaction here.

About the witchcraft thing: as a member of the Facebook group, what has been happening is that witches have sent marked dollar bills to the NRA calling it “blood money”. The red $5 bills are red. Mixed message unless the bills are Monopoly money. Real ones are just added to the petty cash by someone who isn’t scared.

Red or no, it is blood money. I remember growing up in a world where there were no school shootings, largely because most people who had guns had revolvers or 6-shooters. The cops weren’t outgunned and everybody knew it. But daddy’s sixgun that he kept from the War was hardly profitable for the gun industry. But back then the NRA was a shooting society concerned with safety, so it didn’t matter. Plus there was plenty of profit in the Vietnam and other wars.

At the opposite end of that, Tobias Forge of Ghost is said to have played the majority of the instruments on the band’s earlier studio albums, usually employing a session drummer for recording. He certainly does all the backing vocals - if you have a sharp ear, it’s noticeable. I’ve seen one video from their latest tour, ‘Rats on the Road’, and it looks to me like one of the touring guitarists might be James Hetfield of Metallica. It’s known that Dave Grohl toured with Ghost as one of the Nameless Ghouls.

great Punch Brothers song. I have never heard of them, now on the hunt for more. Thanks Charles.

Charles and other LGF members have been following the Punch Brothers for quite a few years now. They have been the featured music topic/article many times.

You’ll find they are able to play many styles of music with their traditional bluegrass line up.

Look for tunes under Chris Thile too, the band leader. He has a lot of stuff with others and alone. He even does classic pieces with his mandolin.

Hello Lizard nation. Yesterday we drove Carpinteria for a bite, then blew past Santa Barbara to go to Gaviota beach. Also walked up to The Gate that delineates public from movie mogul and musician dominated private land, where they also assert ownership of the beach. Illegal as hell btw. Boy was that guy looking to call the sheriff when I got within 20 yards of the gate.

The coastal commission and celebrity property owners have been fighting in court. It seems the state commission has the less able lawyers. One can now approach the “private beaches” by kayak only. No land access. Now this seems like a sweet compromise, who doesn’t like a kayak? Well maybe all of us who don’t do that, and maybe don’t want to risk 40mph offshore winds, swells, fog and getting blown all the way to the channel islands or worse. A navy squadron if ships went aground up here right after WW1.

Is it ironic James Cameron who made a fortune off the Titanic story is one of the obstreperous rich guys that own that coastal land? I think so. Details.

Here is a Pathe clip of the wrecked ships in the same area where the coastal commission thinks Kayak renters can go and navigate the Pacific in hazardous waters.

So I’m seeing that Mitch the Turtle is getting antsy about the Mueller investigation.

nymag.com

Now, isn’t it an uncanny coincidence how all these Republicans, who mere weeks ago were saying we should let Mueller’s investigation run its course, are now suddenly saying “shut it down” after Cohen is rumored to be talking about flipping and Manafort goes off to the slammer.

Cohen is most likely the key to this entire thing. He must know of more crimes than we can imagine at this point, and the Republicans certainly know what he knows, and they are now frantically trying to silence him by attempting to disrupt and kill an ongoing criminal investigation that has been, thus far, quite successful.

The very fact that Cohen was - or perhaps still is - the RNC’s Deputy Finance Chair tells you everything you need to know. If he flips, what’s he gonna tell Mueller? I think the GOP is terrified that Cohen might know enough, owing to his position in party officialdom, to bring it all crashing down.

I suffered through Meet With Chuckles because I wanted to see if this past week is making any dents. There were a few.

One at the end of the show by Al Cardenas was pretty decent. He said the whole immigration thing is 100% Trump’s doing and explained why. It was in direct opposition to The Mouth Known as Kellyanne. He used a great word too, which he may have chosen for a reason. He said Trump’s action were deplorable.

By far though, the most interesting to me was Helene Cooper saying the editor of the NY Times’ take on using the word lie/liar/lying is tough for them because if you use it all the time then it becomes meaningless. Which is in a way a Trump tactic. He clouds everything in misdirection and lies.

So, I guess the Times tries to be judicious of its use. *cough*

Anyway, I see it as use it as often as possible because Trump is often lying…like when he opens his mouth.

And if you are worried about it losing its impact, then do your jobs as writers and explain how dangerous it is that it can get to the point of losing impact…but needs to be driven home.

Get into explaining how the lies do real damage, Explain why the lie is a lie. Use it to delve into Trump’s character issues. Use it to expose what he and they are doing under the cover of the lies and why lying is so much a tool for The Tool.

Get into the truth. The truth is this lying orange bag of fat and bones is a danger to America because of his lying. And his backers that believe him are as much a danger.

George Lakoff, as always, has the best advice for the media:

…stop letting Trump control the news cycle. Newsgathering should be a serious affair controlled by editors whose power rivals any politician’s. Stop chasing his tweets and elevating every sideshow. Start every story with truth and the context of what’s really important to citizens in a democracy. More BBC, less TMZ.

…don’t spread lies. Don’t privilege Trump’s lies by putting their specific language in the headlines, the leads or the hashtags. Don’t repeat the lies assuming people will automatically know they’re lies. People need to know the president is lying, but be careful about repeating the lies because “a lie repeated often enough becomes the truth”. Repetition of lies spreads them.

On this Father’s day thinking of my Dad and how his blood would be boiling at what the RepubliKKKlans are doing. He’d be so mad at Trump he would go nuclear. Oh I remember how he ranted against Dumbya and he told my brainwashed sisters to STFU when they brought up their hatred of the Clintons.

Mom would have even been angrier. I told her how proud of her I was when she told Rick Santorum to go fuck himself and she slammed the door in his face when he ran for Senator.

BTW—Dad was the one who coined “RepubliKKKlan” years ago.

Well, she did on Friday:

“In an unprecedented appearance on the White House lawn, the president spoke to reporters and Fox News for 58 minutes,” she reported. “In that time he lied or misled the American public at least 19 times.”

The anchor then proceeded to fact-check Trump…”So our big question is — why are Republican leaders okay with the President of the United States lying?”

rawstory.com

I can certainly understand everyones frustration with much of the media.

But, it is all we have.

If we keep pushing, as Helene Cooper did admit the NY Times is getting a lot of kickback in their letters asking why don’t you call a lie a lie, then maybe we get what we want.

If we don’t watch, we miss things like Katy calling him a liar. And then we think Katy never called him a liar. That may not help either. Isn’t it best to encourage them?

I do believe last week was too much even for the press. I heard the words lie/lying/liar to explain Trump’s BS more then ever. Especially after his gish-lie-gallop on Friday.

The press can get in a gang-up mode and I hope this is the gang-up on Trump and call him a liar mode.

There are no Republicans who learned the lesson from the California debacle. They’re now going to kill the GOP nationwide.

Yep, they’ve totally forgotten the lesson of Pete Wilson. The California GOP still hasn’t recovered from that two decades old debacle; the only GOP governor since then was Schwarzenegger, and that was something of an anomaly to be honest.

Nice. Phone did a great job. I bet it was a great area for the sound and you got into a sweet spot.

Fine band too. Good to see them playing big band style jazz.

There was a guy here in Columbus that had a little recording label and he many times worked with nothing more than a nice hi-quality Yamaha stereo cassette deck.

He would get a band going in their native habitat, their practice studio…and have them play some of their stuff. He would walk around the room with his two mics listening through headphones for the best sound for each mic and for the room.

He made some nice low-fi recordings and got some bands some decent starts.

As for immigration-fuck the GOP. They want open borders, give them open borders like 1890. Let em in for a fee and sort them out later. Give everybody pending a green card, the rest amnesty, and blow up the old system. Amnesty for everyone not a felon immigrant 1/2021 or 1/2025.

Good comeback, and echoes what most were saying to Rucker in that thread.

Then there’s Margaret Sullivan’s weak response to George Lakoff and Jay Rosen’s call for the media to stop promoting the asshole’s tweets as news.

Are these radical notions likely to take hold?

Ah yes, the idea of calling a lie a lie is so RADICAL.

Probably not, since traditions of newsgathering and presentation run deep. Most journalists — among them the very best — believe that if they keep presenting the facts and countering the spin that that will be enough.

How’s that workin’ out for ya, Margaret?

And then the real story comes out:

And there’s little chance that news organizations will see the White House beat as anything other than a prestige assignment, a perch earned by the finest in the business.

And the unicorn dreams:
Good journalism, goes this line of thinking, will prevail over lies and propaganda. All we have to do is do our jobs, mostly in the same way as always. I fervently hope that’s correct, and that we still have a functioning democracy and a free press to show for this faith in the tried and true.

But she ends, strangely, kind of casting doubt on her whole line of crap:

As Hemingway’s “The Sun Also Rises” said in its dark final line: “Isn’t it pretty to think so?”

So Margaret, what the fuck is your point?

(I haz a confused)

And the really scary thing is that with this policy Trump has truly crossed his Rubicon. There’s no going back and no graceful surrender of power if he loses the 2020 election. January 20, 2021 will find Trump either hiding in the White House, or flying one of his planes off to NY, unless they’re waiting for him, which he might choose to fly somewhere else (do we have to supply Secret Service if he refuses to leave Russia?). Well, Jen Rubin, who, truth be known, has never been a Ted Cruz fan, has just about endorsed Beto (and Democrats.)

That is as clear a choice as voters are going to get as to the direction of the country. Are we Cruz’s America, where children are used as pawns to win points with Trump and Cruz’s anti-immigrant base, or are we, as O’Rourke put it, “better than this”?

At this point, O’Rourke is directing his ire primarily at the administration, but he should not be shy about pointing the finger directly at his opponent, who slavishly supports every move the administration makes and has consistently opposed immigration solutions that would have overwhelming bipartisan support. Every parent in Texas (and every decent human being) should understand they are making not just a political choice but a moral one, too.

There surely must be a wide, diverse coalition of Americans who recoil at a practice so distasteful — a coalition that transcends class, race, gender and ideology… These Americans will have the opportunity in November to throw out politicians who cheer the monstrous policy of child separation.

Private prisons. They can’t use government cots without paying for them.

Government contracts can be written whereby the govt can provide them. But, you’re right about the profit motive. I can’t even imagine how much the govt is being charged per day for sleeping pads.

Holy crap, my regional newspaper prints two letters from liberals in the same week.

Trump’s Alternative Facts (goes to the Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald)

The writer blisters Trump’s lying, comparing it to Nazi Germany, and the editor of the paper allowed this through in the Sunday edition no less. Maybe the publisher of my newspaper is starting to get sick of this himself?

In 1933, Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany. He was elected by the voters of Germany. Once in power, by using the emergency clause of the German constitution, he imposed martial law. Joseph Goebbels, his minister of propaganda, became a proponent of the big lie. He believed, that repeated often enough, the big lie would become accepted truth.

Donald Trump stated Barack Obama was not a natural born American. Today, because Trump only retracted his allegation once, many people still believe his false allegation.

Americans are going to have to decide between the Constitution and the Trump cult of personality. The Constitution is based on separation of powers and checks and balances. Trump is hand picking his favorite candidates in Republican primaries. He has labeled the press the enemy of the people, violated the independence of the Department of Justice and attacked the character of those who oppose him. In foreign policy, Trump has alienated our friends and befriended our enemies. He imposed tariffs on Canada and Europe under the guise of national security. Ironically, the U.S. has a trade surplus with Canada. Our president campaigned on holding China responsible for theft of intellectual property and currency manipulation. The Trump family has benefited financially through new trademarks with China, a pass-through device in the tax reform, and revenues from foreign entities contrary to the Constitution’s emoluments clause.

(more blistering continues at the link)

Father’s Day is tough when you’re struggling with infertility. My wife is now 35 and I’m starting to wonder if I’ll ever be a dad.

We’ve looked into adoption but we can’t afford that right now. It’s a shame there are so many barriers. I’d take in one of those ICE kids in a split.

I’ll be back in a bit. I need to find something to occupy myself.

The lights are reported to be on 24 hours.

“…The U.S. Supreme Court has long recognized sleep deprivation as a form of torture and, as explained below, some inmates have successfully challenged 24-hour lighting practices as being in violation of the Eighth Amendment. Despite the recognition that there is no penological justification for inflicting physical and psychological harm on inmates by forcing them to live in constant illumination, courts frequently have upheld constant illumination practices, concluding that such lighting only causes discomfort, not injury.”

There is an alternative for Mr. Dorsey: If he sees that supporting Nazis and Russian bots is losing him money, he might reverse his lack-of-action.

I don’t see any way to force that other than a mass-exodus from Twitter.

Twitter has been invaluable to the March for our Lives organisers as well, and has forced some companies to change their policies (such as Dick’s Sporting Goods).

It is a difficult problem for sure. There are a lot of good people on Twitter spreading information on the New Conservative Cruelty (tm) who may not even know of such places as Mr. Johnson’s Home for Rational Humans (LGF), sites like Rude Pundit, Wonkette, or others.

Here’s a story specifically contradicting the Trumper claim that only families that enter between entry points are being separated:

“…While [Maria Vandelice de Bastos ]sits in a federal detention center in El Paso, Matheus da Silva Bastos, who has severe epilepsy and autism, is more than 2,000 miles away at a state-run center in Connecticut.

Despite claims from the Trump administration that it is only separating families seeking asylum who cross the border illegally in between ports of entry and only began doing so recently, Vandelice de Bastos’s case appears to prove the exact opposite.

What’s more, caretakers of Matheus in two different states have urged federal officials to reunite him with his grandmother, records show.”

Caputo claims it was a sleazy set up by the FBI. Still begs the question of why they didn’t report it:

They’ll blame anyone for their own illegal activities. Now that trump is hating on the FBI that is good to blame.

There’s a photo in here of all these kids in a huge cage. To the left there’s a sign above a door that says in italicized cursive “Leading the Charge!”

Ms. Haberman still can’t use the word “lie.”

UPDATE: 48 senators now support the Keep Families Together Act. We’re making progress, but we still need Republicans to join. If you’re represented by a Republican senator, tell them to support S.3036.

I wrote one of mine (Senator Sasse) several days ago. Senator Fischer is hopeless as she was one of Trump’s first endorsers.

As expected, I didn’t even get an automated reply. Hence, my letter went as open to my regional newspaper. Back in February 2016, Sasse wrote a letter to the paper explaining why he was a “never Trumper.”

Unreasonably generous to a pathological liar to pretend he’s just fibbing sometimes.

Shows how much love & respect between the moron and his children - he golfs on fathers’ day.

I’m a bit willing to forget their past if they start to learn from it.

I just hope “Trump lies” becomes the media bandwagon for a good long while. All jump on and ride it hard.

Then maybe with that, along with a strong November, we can get back on the road to having a country with a decent future.

They only learn until a democrat is elected president, then they do all in their power to give it back to the GOP. The media, like the GOP do not want those “others” to share any economic or political power with white America.

Shit!!! I spent a month at the Hurricane Katrina evacuation center at the old Kelly AFB in San Antonio TX and the 4 facilities we managed had far better conditions than these dog cages. The only fences we had were around the whole building and they were to keep the bad people out. The refugees had wrist bands which allowed them to go in/out at any time.
There were cots and blankets for everyone. AC was added to the warehouse in 2 days which cooled the 98 degrees outside temp to a reasonable 72-74 inside. Meals were not fancy but were nutritional. Families slept together in adjacent cots. There were semi-private “nursing” areas with rocking chairs for new moms to feed their kids.

Usually, there were 4,000 and up to 10,000 people served per day.

All in all, not the greatest place to stay, but far better that what the govt is providing these kids.

I have 100’s of pictures of this center but I’m reluctant to post them out of fear they’ll be misused.
