Immigrants engage in crimes at a lower rate than the general public.
Illegal aliens engage in criminal conduct at a lower rate than the general public.

Native born Americans are a greater threat to their fellow Americans than immigrants (legal or illegal).

Trump is demonizing the other. That’s what he does. It’s how we slouch towards fascism - to the cheers of his sycophantic GOP that cheers every last thing that he does. It’s his bigot brigade base that cheers the loudest, since it’s their agenda he’s adopted.

Reiteration from downstairs:

Just realized that the indy movie I’ve been pushing, “Den blomstertid nu kommer” / “The Unthinkable” actually depicts Sweden coming under mysterious attacks after shutting Nordstream down and Uncle Vova and his crew being implicated.

Probably questionable tinfoil on my side, but could this be an attempt to set the Reichstag Congress on fire, metaphorically speaking?

FRANKFORT

Gov. Matt Bevin invited Kentuckians to ask him questions about almost any topic Friday on Twitter and Facebook.

They obliged, but many perhaps weren’t the types of questions Bevin had hoped to receive.

“Do you anticipate you will ever understand the constitution of Kentucky?” asked ChadandAnna Rogers on Facebook.

They followed that with: “Ever have anyone steal your retirement?”

On Twitter, @smitrond inquired: “Now that Missouri’s slime ball governor has quit, how does it feel to be the worst sitting governor?”

And @card_sharp72 wanted to know: “When you take selfies, do you have a lot of trouble stretching your arm out far enough to get your entire head in the picture?”

In his appeal, the Republican governor said questions submitted could be featured in an upcoming project, though he offered no further details.

“Whether you’re curious about what it’s like to be the governor, have a question about specific policies, or even wonder what kind of music I enjoy … NOW’S YOUR CHANCE to ask!” Bevin wrote.

Looking at all the doggie images, I have come to the conclusion; let the dogs run this country.

Let it go to the dogs.

It’s better than letting it go to the Trumps/Republicans

They would have a better economics policy just as long as there are treats and a nice warm place to hang. They want what everyone wants…some love and a good home.

And surely, their immigration policy would be better. Dogs like everyone, as long as there are pets.

And they would cut back on the work week. More time to play.

Anyone with me?!

Just saw this on local news. Another cop abusing his position…now fired.

PROFANITY WARNING: Officer pulls over daughter’s boyfriend

Elyria Chronicle-Telegram - Lorain police officer fired after stopping and detaining daughter and her boyfriend (VIDEO)

LORAIN - A Lorain police officer was fired after an internal investigation found he abused his authority by conducting a traffic stop on his daughter’s boyfriend without cause and temporarily detained his daughter and her boyfriend in the back of his squad car.

Safety-Service Director Dan Given, Police Chief Cel Rivera and other command officers noted John Kovach Jr., a patrolman who joined the force in 1992, violated various sections of the department’s standards of conduct and policy and procedures during the April 16 incident.

He was fired May 11 and Given said the incident has been referred to County Prosecutor Dennis Will for review.

“These actions are not acceptable for members of our Police Department and we felt it warranted immediate dismissal,” Given said. The Police Department’s union is appealing the decision.

The incident

According to an internal investigation completed by Lt. Ed Super as well as dashcam footage from Kovach’s cruiser, shortly before 6 p.m. on April 16 a silver vehicle with a driver and three passengers passed Kovach’s patrol car in the same direction that he was facing on West 34th Street. Without alerting dispatch, Kovach initiates a stop.

He tells the driver, his daughter’s boyfriend Makai Coleman, 18, to get out because he’s “going to jail.” Coleman asks Kovach what for and Kovach responds: “Have a seat in my car. We’ll make (expletive) up as we go.” Coleman goes and sits in Kovach’s cruiser.

Kovach then addresses Gloria Morales, who comes out of her home nearby because her children are two of the three people in the car with Coleman. He tells Morales his daughter’s computer is inside her house and while she initially gives him permission to search the house, she later tells him to come back with a search warrant when he threatens to give her daughter a $300 ticket for not wearing her seatbelt.

Morales and Kovach argue back and forth after Kovach tells her to go inside the house. When she says she is calling 911, he threatens to arrest her, telling her it is not an emergency, according to documents related to the firing. He tells her two children to get out of the car and go with Morales. At that point, he notices his daughter, Katlyn Kovach, 18, in the backseat.

At that point, Kovach tells Coleman to get out of the cruiser and he pushes his daughter into the cruiser while she protests that she is 18 and can’t be arrested for without cause. He eventually gets her into the cruiser and drives away.

While all of that was going on, Kovach had been called to a road rage incident on Leavitt Road. According to the dashcam footage, Kovach does not respond to the call from dispatch.

Afterward, Kovach told Lt. Dan Smith he called Officer Efrain Torres after receiving the dispatch information and Torres told him he was not needed. Super noted nothing was seen or heard from the cruiser video to substantiate that Kovach made such a call.

Classic propaganda schtick. Produce a number of seemingly independent points of information that actually are connected. It’s called “horizontal dependency” and is one of the things you learn to spot when you get taught source criticism.

Michael Avenatti was on Ari earlier and said people need not get too caught up in Tom Arnold. He thought Arnold was being used to send a message to Trump. Which is probably true. Speak to Trump through TV. Cohen is crying out for dollar love from Donny. And attention.

He said keep your concentration on Cohen himself and what the prosecutors found in the raids. He called Cohen a hoarder that didn’t throw away anything. How do you like your bullshit?

However, Brzezinski defended Melania Trump’s jacket — which read “I don’t really care. Do u?” — by introducing an interesting theory.

“You see the first lady trying her best to separate herself from this because she, too, could have been one of those children,” Brzezinski said. “She doesn’t look like them, but she knows this is bad, so she rushes to the border, and who cares what she’s wearing? She probably was talking to her husband.”

This is the stupidest take I’ve heard yet. “She cared so much she had to rush to her photo op where the children aren’t being held” and just happened to be wearing that jacket.

Fuck these people.

From the collected ravings of US wingnuts online comes this atrocity:

“People will set aside for a moment their moral beliefs, their religious beliefs, to get somebody that is honest in office,” he said. “Trump is the trailblazer, he is the Christopher Columbus of honest politics.”

Truly revolting, but with a nice dose of irony. The metaphor gets much better when the dark side of Columbus’ expeditions is recalled (e.g., enslaving the natives).

What the GOP establishment got blindsided by is something really, really simple — with Fox News and hate radio they have created a base of easily led fools, so naturally the first real demagogue that came along in the Fox News era (i.e., Trump) got an instant personality cult.

Protesters Blast Kirstjen Nielsen’s Home With Audio of Crying Immigrant Children

For the second time in a week, protesters have confronted Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kistrjen Nielsen for her role in the Trump administration’s (questionably renounced) policy of separating undocumented immigrant children from their parents.

Waving signs reading “child snatcher” and chanting “how do you sleep at night,” demonstrators, including members of immigrant rights group Casa In Action and Jewish Action—a wing of the progressive Jewish advocacy group Bend the Arc—massed outside Nielsen’s DC area townhome on Friday morning. According to HuffPost’s Philip Lewis, Neilsen was believed to have been inside during the protest.

“Public intellectuals” - a term that hardly has any meaning in these days, found new life on the internet, as broadcast TV wanes in viewership. On-demand viewing such as Netflix is not so lucrative for the pundits.

George Will started his career in television back when broadcast networks were important things in American life. Will worked that career well enough. He found success as a “public intellectual” during the Regan revanchism era of America.

Now he is old.

And pretty much not in the mind-space of the younger generation.

I look on his big pronouncement as being, on top of a rat leaving a sinking ship, as a simple business exercise, a way for him to trend on Twitter, something individuals of his age rarely do unless they are the true A-listers in Hollywood or national-level politicians.

Just call me broken-vinyl, but, again, Trump is a symptom, not the cause.

Here we’re getting close to one of the real issues:

Lee County, VA school board approves ‘In God We Trust’ school bus decals

[…]

School Board Chair Michael Kidwell said the board unanimously approved this idea at their June meeting last Thursday.

Kidwell said the idea is to have a decal on the back of every county school bus, and school vehicle that displays the American Flag in the background with the words ‘In God We Trust’ written on each one.

“Looking at what’s going on in the country, and the federal level, just the anti-God, anti-American movement it seems like it in places, and we thought it would be a good idea to place on our buses and show our community’s patriotism…the reason I thought about it personally, I’m a God fan, I believe in God, I believe in country, and I believe this is our country’s motto,” Kidwell said.

The Loss-of-God problem is a primary driver in America’s social angst.

This Trump knows well. It’s why he does his silly stunts in front of his religious marks.

And his religious marks are so scared of the Loss-of-God problem that they’d rather have a hypocritical liar reinforce their idea of “God” than have an honest person simply tell them that she doesn’t care about their “God”.

hitlers, pre hitlers, and a package of hitler-helper

it occured to me that perhaps a reason that trump makes such an incompetent klown of a hitler is that he is only meant to be a pre hitler

an economically and institutionally strong united states is not an ideal flower bed to grow real hitlers in. a real fascist takeover takes hold best as a solution to chaos. after all, we are all quite clear now that mr pooty intends to undermine trust in democratic institutions. but also what is this massive trade war all about? it seems clear that it is going to hasten the next recession, due any year now, and make it worse. and while we wait to tell the trumpykins “see, i told you so” and hope that it fucks his chance of re election, it may also create a big batch of hitler-helper

for the real hitler to show up

and this time he won’t be a clown

but it also may be true that there is a miscalculation here on der pooty’s part: i hear from other countries where he’s tried out his trool army that they blow the little buggers off now - “oh, there’s another one of those russian trolls spreading lies”. it might could be that pre hitlers innoculate us, to some extent anyway, to real hitlers

and then there is that nasty law of unintended consequences

and time

in the end, time wounds all heels

The funny thing is, it’s not like God is going anywhere. I mean, fuck’s sake, America was never founded as a Christian nation (only a few of the colonies were religious in nature, and they weren’t all Christians), and besides, Jesus explicitly told us not to bother with setting up earthly kingdoms because He wasn’t an earthly king. As long as we’re still free to have faith, that’s all that matters, but they’re so terrified of losing power and influence - and most of all, the sweet sweet cash flow of tithes from the devout faithful - that they are willing to sell their souls for it.

I’m out in my shop and two women approach…

Woman #1: “Hi! Someone to talk to!”
Me: “I see clipboards so somebody wants something today.” (smiling)
Woman #1: (laughs) “I’m Shannon Souza and I’m running for the Senate here in Oregon.”
Woman #2: “And I’m with her!” (big smile)
Me: “You need a shirt that says that.” (everyone laughs)

Shannon went on to tell me what her focus would be on (healthcare, affordable housing, etc), which sounded like things a Democratic candidate would say. So I thought I would save both of us some time…

Me: “I’m registered to vote but am not affiliated with any party. I’ve always weighed both major party candidates and picked whichever one I think is best. It used to be from both parties but with the way things have been going it’s getting pretty easy to decide who to vote for. So I have to ask, which party are you running under?”

Shannon: (slight pause…) “I’m running as a Democrat.”

Me: “Thanks! We need people like you to fight against the NAZIs on the right. There’s really no need to talk any further about this, you have my vote.”

Both ladies: “Wow! Thank you very much!

Me: “My wife and daughter are both registered like I am and I am sure that you have their votes too. Same with our son, a registered Democrat. I don’t speak for them but I do know that, like me, it will be a cold day in Hell before we ever vote for a Republican again.”

More expressions of gratitude, I took a flyer and we said our good byes. I wish her luck, we need people in office who care about other people.

The look on her face when I called the right NAZIs was something to behold. Up to that point she didn’t know my political leanings and being the county we are, the odds were that she was going to run in to a Trumphumper who would chase her off.

I think I made her day. :)

So, I’ve had this earworm all day (can’t imagine why) and, because I’m a sharing kind of person, now you can have it too. You’re welcome.

A version of this video from 1947, “Don’t be a Sucker”, came to me from my mom. The version she had came from a friend in Germany, so it had German subtitles. But that’s where Germany sees us right now: in the midst of a decision on if we are going to be suckers:

More about the changing nature of religion in America:

Fuller Seminary to Sell Pasadena Campus, Relocate in Move to Address Financial Concerns

Experiencing a decline in full-time students and rise in online enrollment, Fuller Theological Seminary in California has announced that it will sell its 13-acre campus in Pasadena that has been the school’s home for 70 years.

[…]

The move to Pomona has many benefits for Fuller, according to Labberton, including “the elimination of all debt,” a lower cost of living for students and staff and a “sizable increase” to the school’s endowment.

[…]

The LA Times reports that Fuller’s Pasadena campus will go on the real estate market in the next 30 days and could be sold to one single buyer, multiple buyers or real estate developers.

[…]

Fuller is not alone in experiencing a decline in campus enrollment. According to a by The Association of Theological Schools, seminaries across the U.S. experienced “nearly a decade of decline” in enrollment before it “stabilized in the last two years, with an uptick in full-time equivalent students.”

[…]

Put simply: The Pasadena campus is in a very choice location: goo.gl

Not only is Pasadena much more desirable real estate than Pomona real estate, the Pasadena location is right off of major freeways and in a commercial shopping area.

Retail property in the Pasadena area is about $300/sq.ft. If Fuller has 13 acres, that is about $170 million worth of real estate they are sitting on.

No wonder the school says selling the property will substantially increase their endowment.

We is pretty much anyone who wants this administration to go down. Some of us donate, some of us run for office, some of us get on their comedy shows and do politics, some of us make art, some protest, and others challenge them more directly. Trump’s Centralized State is even banning the Red Cross from visiting those infants and toddlers being incarcerated by Trump. What do Trump and Pence have to hide?

— Joe Scarborough

Just another conservative like George Will or others who won’t accept responsibility for what they did. Scarborough was a conservative Republican congressman. Scarborough allowed Trump to call in repeatedly to his show during the campaign. Scarborough is only unhappy, like many Republicans, that Trump isn’t using their racist dog whistles.

Scarborough hasn’t used his show even once to issue an apology.

Scarborough is just another conservative. It is a philosophy of hate, of divisiveness, of gaining and maintaining power for its own sake.

In over 240 years of the Republic, name one thing done in the name of conservatism that has advanced our society. One. I’ll wait.

When Scarborough accepts his responsibility, and seeks to make amends, then I might give a hoot what his opinion is.

Nothing from Ron Paul. I’ve always felt he was a fraud.

Christ. I did not need to see that tonight. I’f feeling rotten enough already.

A few notes:

A person can be banned from a murder trial’s jury pool for being opposed to the death penalty (in such a state where that penalty exists).

LGBT have always been hated by conservatives (except when they could be used by them).

Even allegedly deep red states like mine have large numbers of liberals, so when someone says “I hope that state burns” or whatnot, they’re condemning us too.

South Dakota is a complete lock for decades with Sinclair, FOX, and Christian hate radio. It’s newspapers are all conservative (including the area of SD which is in the circulation area of my paper). SD used to be a liberal state. Propaganda is a helluva drug.

Instead of ‘Death to America,’ Iran is now just posting photos of migrant children in U.S. cages (goes to The Week).

Good job, conservatives.

“Iran state TV no longer needs to broadcast slogans against America,” U.S.-Iranian journalist Borzou Daragahi noted. Now Tehran “just shows handout pictures distributed by U.S. [government] itself.” Those who live in free-press-less houses, of course, have no business throwing stones. But the Iranian government is surely not the only repressive regime delighted at this propagandistic own goal.

(Press TV is an Iranian press outlet)

Texas Tech Frat Members Call For Hunting Immigrants In Racist Group Chat.

In1984 I was working offshore with a guy from Tyler, Texas who had a copy, in his wallet, of “Nigger Toe Tags”, which could be used to cart off the bodies of legally shot humans.

He was just HAHAHAHA!

I told him that if I ever saw him again, I would toss him into the Gulf of Mexico, and I made sure he understood that I was completely serious. He seemed to think that since I was ex-military that I would be “So cool! Where can I get one!”.

I talked to the Company Man and he was off the rig the next morning. I stood on the helipad and gave him the one finger salute as he left. I hope that sonofabitch has since died of ball cancer.

You mean to tell me Republicans can be racist against minority members of their own party? I’m shocked! Absolutely shocked!

I’m more shocked that minority members of the GOP exist. What are they expecting from the party of trump?

When Scarborough accepts his responsibility, and seeks to make amends, then I might give a hoot what his opinion is.

When Scarborough gives up calling out Hillary on EVERY morning show, I might believe the odd word he says. I’ll never believe a full sentence. He wanted trump to win because of his Clinton hate - he got what he wanted but can’t stop attacking the candidate who lost - funny that - trump does it as well.

I hate to do this but even the Nazis let the IRC to go to the Western Allies POW camps. Something is rotten here.

I don’t think they let them into the concentration camps

The Red Cross isn’t even allowed to see the imprisoned immigrant children. What is this, Guantanamo Bay? Oh wait…!

You couldn’t do worse if you wanted the international community to believe you were up to no good.

Sorry lady, but to the religious whackjob right, the right to life begins at conception and ends at birth.

Fix’t it a bit.
