First “May The LORD have mercy on us all” post on this thread…
I just saw someone on my FB timeline post the background to the “I don’t care” meme… “Me ne frego”… Do a google image search on the term.
There is an article on a site which is absolutely getting hammered right now, for obvious reasons, so I won’t post it yet…

May The LORD have mercy upon us all :’(

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

According to court filings obtained by CBS News, Manafort’s lawyers argue that his alleged crimes occurred before joining the Trump campaign, meaning any mention of the president would be irrelevant. The lawyers wrote that mention of Trump during Manafort’s trial could taint jurors’ perception of him, influencing their decision in his case.

“[T]here is a very real risk that the jurors in this case - most of whom likely have strong views about President Trump, or have likely formed strong opinions as to the well-publicized allegations that the campaign colluded with Russian officials - will be unable to separate their opinions and beliefs about those matters from the tax and bank fraud matters to be tried before them in this case,” they wrote.

I put about 1/4 cup of the dried catnip in a container thingie and let them have at it. then….. this happened….

Well, I don’t have a policy for that exact situation. You should try using archive.is to make a copy of it first. But what is the site that’s having problems?

Also… this particular Zara jacket retails for less than $100. Does that sound like the sort of clothes she usually buys? And it’s from the same company who got in trouble for putting out those striped pajamas with a six-pointed yellow star, and an overnight bag with lots of colorful symbols including a swastika. Each of those items provoked a huge social media kerfuffle, then the company said “oh so sorry, didn’t realize”. But I’m pretty sure they weren’t sorry, and they did realize. My bet and it’s a quarter:

Stephen Miller keeps a secret wardrobe that he dresses up in during his fantasies of being seduced by Donald Trump.

The Zara jacket just happened to be in that wardrobe and Stephen had it magically appear at the right time for the first lady. Now Stephen can use it as a deduction.

Yeah, this whole family separation policy is evil and outrageous———but really not even the worst thing Trump has done. I am glad it is getting a lot of attention and that there is finally some real traction with the public about how awful this is. The reason the media can sell this so well is that most people have kids, and the pictures and audio make for dramatic headlines and storytelling.

What I think is actually worse is the way this administration gave so little support to rebuilding Puerto Rico in the aftermath of that devastating hurricane. Thousands of Americans died in the following months because of the lack of access to healthcare. And they died because of the same hateful anti-Hispanic attitude of this administration. (The death rate in the first few months afterward were 62% higher than usual———4,645 “excess deaths”!)

Most Americans don’t even seem to consider them as actual citizens deserving of our county’s resources in times of crisis. The story has been minimally reported on but failed to strike a nerve with the public. There are no pictures, no audio———just graphs and statistical analysis. But we should not forget this story. Family separations are an abomination, but surely actual deaths from intentional and bigoted neglect are worse. This could change——-how long before there is an epidemic in these poorly run facilities?

True enough.

What country or countries can stop anything the US decides to do and how? The UN is pretty toothless in the best circumstances and when the country in question is a permanent member of the security council action is less than likely, maybe some subcommittee will write a sternly worded letter. Economic sanctions? Probably hurt themselves as much as us and probably lead to a global recession/depression that will cause far more misery in the end.

Maybe targeted sanctions against Trump and other admin folks, but the dipshit would probably start a real shooting war over it.

Our $20T national debt is all T-Bills. Nothing but T-Bills. About 1/3 is held by foreign governments; all of it rolls over every six months. A lot of that is owned by China and Japan. China doesn’t care about human rights abuses, it gives them a chance to undermine US arguments against them. One of the reasons Japan owns so much of our debt is because they are trying to keep the dollar high to help their own exports. Nobody who owns enough US treasuries to have a serious impact are likely to want to send the US into recession.

Since a couple of years before the Crimean invasion, Putin had been using Russian cyber attacks and internet bots to interfere with Western media and influence elections.

It worked with Brexit. It worked with Drumpf.

We should give the asshole the credit he deserves! He did a great job!

And look at the World Cup. It’s running as smooth as a tastee-freeze ice cream machine. The State has shut down any trouble and people feel as safe as kittens.

The man can run a country, can’t he? The fact that 100 hundred families control it as a kleptocracy is beside the point. The rich get richer, the poor are thrown bread and circuses, and the professional class is told to shut up or disappear. They shut up.

No wonder Drumpf loves the man. He’s got the grift institutionalized and humming right along.

Stores here in DFW carry them. I developed a taste for grits while I was stationed in Alabama during my Army service. They were a staple of the diet there, at least for older folks. Younger locals seemed to subsist mostly on RC Cola and Moon Pies. Salted peanuts were occasionally added to the RC but purists preferred Pepsi for that particular delicacy.

You’re angry at the “vituperative words” of the left? Fuck you. One reason we’re fucking done here is because Democrats were civil. The Fox-directed media always demands that Democrats play nice. Republicans can shit in the face of babies, but if a Democrat say, “Whoa, that’s messed up,” all of a sudden the entire structure of the government is shaken to its core. In fact, there’s always the stupid comparison: “Republicans shit in the face of babies but Democrats say that’s messed up. Who is worse than Hitler?”

This is never what my country was meant to be. This is never what we have historically been. This is becoming a fascist country, little by little, bit by bit.

We cannot let it happen. We just cannot.

Dog help us that it doesn’t happen tomorrow. The people running this country are just stone cold evil bastards. They need to be stopped and prosecuted.

Moon Pies may have had a significant role in my personal history. A few months after we got married my second wife came home and found me munching on a Moon Pie. I had picked a box of them on the way home. She had never seen one outside the package before. “What is that you’re eating? It looks like a chocolate hubcap.”
“That, dear, is a Moon Pie. Redneck ambrosia. Cost next to nothing and pretty tasty too.”
I gave her one.
When she finished it she said, “That really is good.” Then she belatedly asked, “Uh, how many calories in one of these?”
“Not sure, but probably enough to jump-start a nuclear reactor.”
“Perhaps we should find a way to burn them off right away.”
It took me a second to recognize the hint.
“Perhaps we should.”
There is a very good chance that was the day our daughter was conceived.

40 or 50 garlic cloves boiled in olive oil for a while. After it cools we collect all the oil and use it later, it’s oil that’s been boiling in garlic, so the oil now has garlic, etc. Then the garlic is placed in a Robot Coupe and liquified then you put in a bunch of chicken broth and sticks of liquified butter and liquify it some more.

Bethany is a not-for-profit which has operated since 1944. It is not “owned” by the DeVos family. It is a Christian organisation which does adoptions, foster care, and pregnancy counseling (crisis pregnancy centres). A fluff piece about it just published by WZZM channel 13 in Michigan:

The DeVos family has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to the organisation over the years. It has seventeen locations in Michigan, and is located in thirty-six states, as well as foreign countries.

While the DeVos family is deeply tied to the organisation, saying they “own” it only gives wingnuts a deflection to say liberals are lying about Betsy DeVos and Bethany (so they can deflect from what’s going on at the border).

MLive notes that despite Trump’s alleged cessation order to separate families kidnap children, nearly fifty more are expected in Michigan’s Bethany centers.

mlive.com

The state’s civil rights department announced it would assess the impact of the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy and separation of families at the border Tuesday.

In speaking directly with Michigan care providers, the department has started identifying trends and potential civil rights issues — including the average age of these children, the time it takes to re-establish contact with parents and the likely increase in those sent to Michigan, Arbulu said.

“We have learned that additional requests are being made for additional children to be brought in. So you’ll see that 54 increasing,” Arbulu said.

Washington is willing to engage with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas if he returns to negotiations, but if he is not willing, the US will likely air its long-awaited blueprint for peace publicly, Jared Kushner said in a rare interview published Sunday in a Palestinian newspaper.

WTF kinda threat is that?

So far, none of the maladministration has been able to provide a blueprint for a lunch plan, much less something as complicated and fraught with pitfalls as the situation in Asia Minor.

Let us remember that when he was campaigning, Trump did insist that killing families was A-OK in some contexts. Conexts are now far broader. Now he’s also legitimized kidnapping as a political tool, not to mention tariffs and worldwide economic chaos as bargaining chips red meat for his fans.

And here’s a PSA for y’all Lizardim:

Earlier today, I witnessed an incident where a lady began accussing the cashier at a pharmacy for having made certain statements derogatory of poor people, e.g. “Poor people are lazy”. This she did not do. Also, she’s an immigrant from Asia.
This escalated, the staff at the pharmacy saying they did not want to talk politics, and police were called and the cashier pressed the panic button. Police were reluctant to come, they wanted the pharmacy staff to make the call to come.
The lady left when she realized that the cashier had pressed the panic button.

The takeaway of this is that the lady made a big point about a relative of hers being a lawyer [N.B.: bag of rock salt], and that she knows precisely what she can and cannot do, so it got me thinking…

The whole sordid affair reminded me of the recent incidents in the United States where white people have called authorities on non-whites. It struck me that they may have been given the idea to act like they do by elements higher up in the rightwing food chain.

What if the purpose of these incidents is not as much to harass non-whites and political opponents as it is to create the commotion? Also, it could be intentionally crafted to toe the line of what is legal and what is not, as to create an appearance that they are the ones being harassed.

Anyways, enough venting on my part. Do I need to buy new tinfoil, or am I on to something?

Sadly, I think we’re going to end up wishing that Kushner’s “peace plan” would have been something so benign. A more likely scenario is that the Trump regime’s “blueprint” is:

A) going to be very good for Israel
B) going to be very bad for the Palestinians
C) be presented in a way virtually guaranteed to trigger violent protests by the Palestinians
D) case C) will be used as the excuse to implement the “blueprint” by force.

And of course, the whole mess will be the subject of a massive PR blitz by the Administration and its toadies to tout their own “brilliant diplomacy” - no doubt right before the midterm elections…

Having lived as a minority person in two foreign countries so far, and a longterm visitor to three others, I don’t quite get this fear white people have being a minority — given that whites would still control most of the politics and business/finance entities in the USA for decades after they reach minority status. (See South Africa as a case in point.) I suppose they have all bought into the fear mongering that the USA will become like Rhodesia —> Zimbabwe, but that came as a result of decades of oppression by the ruling whites and the radicalism of Robert Mugabe. South Africa had no such reprisals after majority rule began in 1994. There’s no indication oppression against whites would happen here, either, unless, as you suggest, certain white people thoroughly piss off everyone else and make it all but inevitable.

Turning 69 is just bringing back all sorts of fun memories for you, innit?

The detainees are being housed in one of the medium-security prisons. No additional permanent staff were added to assist in their care, Kostelnik said.

Exodus 23:2 Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

Exodus 23:6-7: You shall not pervert the justice due to your needy brother in his dispute. Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent or the righteous, for I will not acquit the guilty.

Proverbs 3:27: Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.

Ezekiel 16:49-50: Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Interestingly enough, the King James version uses the word “abomination” in Proverbs 6:16-19 instead of “detests”. So next time someone want to tell you that it says that same-sex relations are an “abomination”, you can introduce them to all the other “abominations” they deliberately ignore. Fucking hypocrites. My uncle worked for Hughes in the late 80s/early 90s. After the first gulf war, he had an option, be laid off or go to work in Saudi. He’s spent a good deal of time since then working for various US contractors in various Mid East nations. According to him, traffic laws in Saudi Arabia are more like suggestions than actual laws.

Time to find out who works at the IAH Polk County Secure Adult Detention Center.

The 24-year-old detainee, who spoke on the condition of anonymity and requested the Tribune use the pseudonym Carlos because he feared retaliation, told the Tribune that he abandoned his asylum case and agreed to sign voluntary deportation paperwork Friday out of “desperation” to see his 6-year-old daughter, who was separated from him after the pair illegally crossed the border in late May. The man said two federal officials suggested he’d be reunited with his daughter at the airport if he agreed to sign the order, which could lead to him being repatriated to his violence-torn home country in less than two weeks.

Yglesias pointed out on twitter that with no judges or cases at all, anyone regardless of citizenship can be picked up and deported to some other country for basically any reason. That’s really tyranny right there.

And in completely underreported news, Jim Walmsley of Flagstaff broke the course record for running the 100 mile Western States Endurance Run in California yesterday. The previous record had been set in 2012 at 14 hours, 46 minutes. He ran the course in 14 hours, 30 minutes.

Here’s the backstory on Walmsley. This might be a kind of redemption; he was one of the officers scooped up in the test cheating scandal involving nuclear missile silos some years back.

Thought occurred to me this morning that we are now clearly in the critical midsection of the Trump fiasco.

Trump’s actions have finally angered enough people that the collective mood of the country now is one of bitterness towards him and his followers.

I know I’ve been harsher to the Trumpers in my Facebook timeline.

The viable options ahead are narrowing. The only thing that must be done now is to start impeachment procedures the first day of the new session of Congress, assuming the Democrats flip the House. Even though there are probably a few dozen Republicans now in the House who are very unhappy with Trump, between the “Freedom” Caucus and the limpness of Ryan the current Congress is not going to do what is necessary.

But they won’t. The Republicans will find a way to recast this so that they can support him, because to them, power is paramount even above the interests of the country.

“Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and Law and Order”

Trump is proving what the mockery to our system is. It’s him and the criminally protective Republican party.

If I ever hear one more Republican say they are the party of law and order I might try to stuff a copy of the U.S. Constitution down their throats.

Keep me away from Rob Portman!

And all those suddenly conscientious never Trumpers…you better step up your game. Yes, game. Your talk is cheap.

You need to be applying plenty of pressure to all of the Republicans in congress. You helped usher in this crap, don’t take the easy way out and say you are no longer Republican and then step away.
