BernieBros are furiously jacking off right now to the results of New York’s 14th Congressional District.

Sadly, that’s not their only impending triumph: Ben Jealous is ahead in the Maryland governor’s race. Now we’re going to have their avatar on every news show all over again every week from now until November promoted as a major force in the party while he licks Donnie’s boots as usual.

Nice piece of music Charles. Their dynamics are off the clock. I don’t think you can get any more dynamic and tight and pull that off in one take.

Kamala Harris also supports him. I know Jealous supported Sanders but I don’t believe in using that to determine a candidate’s worth.

I do. Lie down with dogs and wake up with fleas, and Sanders is one mangy mutt.

So we get some 28-year-old kid who’s been brainwashed into hating Democrats while promoting a handful of left-wing slogans, and the party will no doubt react by coddling the BernieBros even more than they have done. Way to make sure we don’t win the House in ‘18 or the White House in ‘20 by placating the extremists. Straight out of the McGovern-Mondale handbook.

Goddamn it.

Then frankly you’re being no better than anyone who wants to hang Clinton support against someone. I’m sorry but I believe in determining a candidate’s worth along with other factors other than who they supported. And I’m sorry but this race isn’t going to cost us the House. Give the kid a chance for crying out loud. I think she’s wrong about the Democratic Party but you know what, lots of people start as angry outsiders.

Jealous unlike Manning has actually done shit for progressive politics rather than be buddy buddy with Mcinnes and the Proud Boys and Lucian. Jealous has a lot of prominent endorsers. I think it’s wrong and dishonest to compare his campaign to Manning’s simply because of the style of campaign he’s running.

Great thing! Mail-in ballots should be the way to go across the board. The clerk and recorder mails your ballot to you well before Election Day and you vote on your terms. No standing in line, no ambiguity of what’s on the ballot. I filled out my ballot in my study and did a 20 mile bicycle ride to drop it off in the ballot box last week.

An Easterner might think that a state park on the coast of Oregon with well-mowed grounds would be a pretty calm place. Not far from a city (Astoria), and a calm morning. So I walk around a bit awaiting the museum to open so that I can get a parking permit.

I start with the slight remains and reproduction guns of the Civil War period part of Fort Stevens. I also come across a bunker/casement where they used to store mines when there were minefields maintained in the Columbia during World War II. And then I walk around the corner of the bunker and…

Hey You. Yes you human dude. Get off my lawn!

Nothing like unexpectedly encountering an adult wapiti at a range of about 40 feet.

They also come in “super cute” sizes as well

And then I come across this near one of the old gun battery locations.

It’s the cougar’s country, we just live in it.

David Lynch clarifies himself on Facebook:

Dear Mr. President,

This is David Lynch writing. I saw that you re-tweeted the Breitbart article with the heading - Director David Lynch: Trump ‘Could Go Down as One of the Greatest Presidents in History.’ I wish you and I could sit down and have a talk. This quote which has traveled around was taken a bit out of context and would need some explaining.

Unfortunately, if you continue as you have been, you will not have a chance to go down in history as a great president. This would be very sad it seems for you - and for the country. You are causing suffering and division.

It’s not too late to turn the ship around. Point our ship toward a bright future for all. You can unite the country. Your soul will sing. Under great loving leadership, no one loses - everybody wins. It’s something I hope you think about and take to heart. All you need to do is treat all the people as you would like to be treated.

Sincerely,

David Lynch

Still slightly, I dunno, naive about how “disruption” functions and appealing to an ass to be not an ass, but whatever.

And she’s going to get used as a bludgeon against all other Democrats. And she’ll LOVE it.

We had the bastards! The BernieBros were on the canvas, the referee had counted nine, and then Crowley couldn’t get 5 percent of the district’s Democrats to vote for him against a girl with a bunch of pretty slogans she couldn’t explain with a gun to her head.

What I dislike the most about the Bernie-or-Busters is their Purity Pony politics, in which unless the candidate isn’t absolutely ideologically pure, they must be rejected. I prefer pragmatism — but I’d also like to swing the Overton Window as far as we can to the left. The key point being how far can we successfully push things to the left — I have a wishlist a mile long, but if I can get half of that wishlist done, that’s still a success.

Opposing a candidate solely because she’s a Bernie ally is Purity Pony politics, too.

There are 3,844,267 registered voters in Colorado.

That’s 2,800,582 that are disengaged from the process. That’s about the population of metro Denver.

It’s not that I don’t understand the impulse, but every attempt to move leftward beyond the positions held by Bill Clinton has failed for three generations. We’ve had four pushes to create a national healthcare system; only LBJ’s will enjoy any lasting success, and he had to campaign on his predecessor’s corpse to do it. There’s no mass audience out there for the massive tax increases it would take for “Medicare 4 All.” Same for minimum wage- the private sector labor unions who use it to compute their wage requests are now shadows and dust, and most people don’t want to double the wages for unskilled labor overnight to something that closely resembles their own paycheck.

Whenever the Democrats lose power, they waste time fooling with left-wingers who will never vote for them. That’s the real problem with Ocasio’s win. One useless Congresscritter more or less isn’t the problem. Adopting, or being pressured to adopt, the positions of decades of failed campaigns because of one flukish success is.

Most of her positions are pretty mainstream for Democrats, I think. Housing as a Human Right, Federal Jobs Guarantee, and abolishing ICE might be the most lefty things she has on her issues page. But the housing solutions she offers are pretty mainstream tax credits and whatnot. The federal jobs guarantee, I’m not entirely sure about (AI is going to change things in ways we can’t even imagine just yet), and given the recent actions of ICE, I’m not entirely opposed to that general idea either.

With 96% of precincts in, according to the NY State Board of Elections, there have been 26,500 votes cast in NY-14, including write-in votes and blanks, of which Ocasio has 15,143. Total Democrats registered in the district: 214,570. These look like “Democrats in disarray,” right, Donald? //

Yep. Joe is taking a page from the Periello playbook here. I concede Tom didn’t invent this but Tom showed you can lose a primary and still be a class act.

I am not meaning to be sexist; BernieBro males have run on the same content-free platform. I meant to refer to statements that never contain anything but platitudes, and that was the example that came to mind.

I think I answered your more serious question as to why I think this is such a Bad Thing, Mike. But if you really want to know who I’m mad at, Ocasio and Crowley both come in for their fair share: the former for running this campaign based around nothing, and the latter for not being ready for it. I’m also mad at the local voters because 7/8 of them chose to sit this one out. And if you really think an inconsequential newbie isn’t something the Republicans can’t build a winning campaign against, remember one word: EMAILS.

Just a fountain of hot takes.

Say what?

I’m just saying that if Daily Caller wanted to do a little ratfucking to swing opinion against Harley, that would be one way to do it. How many MAGATs are going to bother to check back and find out that Harley’s CEO actually didn’t call Trump a moron?

They read that headline and probably scurried off to pitch bricks through the windows of the local H-D dealer.

If you really want to defend Trump, Erdogan, Orban, and the rest of the growing Fascist Force out there because they shouldn’t be opposed by people who see a bigger picture… then we should both call it a night.

WTF?

Yes. For all the good it does. I don’t even have a Congressional candidate to vote for!

I’m front and center against the racist, dictatorial ambitions that Trump and his crew espouse on a daily basis. That “defending Western Civilization” bit has been a white supremacist dog-whistle for decades now and I wasn’t about to let that pass without being challenged.

I’m honestly fine with this. She offers a voice that has been lacking. It’s ironic she was a Bernie supporter though given his distaste for what he calls identity politics where she ran as a proud young Latina, nothing wrong with that and in fact why I have hope she’ll be better than Bernie.

Alright, that I understand, but I hope you still see what I mean. We put together a pretty good world system after WWII. I don’t want it destroyed for no reason. The Democrats are our last hope to preserve it, and they just made a very risky move at a time when they have zero margin for error.

Mandatory voting.

There’s no good reason that voting shouldn’t be mandatory. It won’t happen, I realise, but there’s lots of steps in between.

Don’t have elections on workdays, for fucking starters.

Register everyone to vote automatically.

Make voting booths accessible and numerous enough to serve the population.

In other words, stop disenfranchising people, and make it an actual democratic republic, rather than a sham democracy where only the right people vote.

Or, put another way, it will take Democrats winning. In other words, it will take the outcome that the system is designed to prevent.
