Trump Is Planning to Meet Putin Alone, With No Aides and No Official Record

Politics • Views: 40,170

It’s unbelievable how blatant Donald Trump is being with this; he’s planning to meet in private with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki this month, with no aides, no witnesses, and no official record.

It’s like he’s daring America to stop him.

President Donald Trump clearly doesn’t care what anyone thinks about his baffling, opaque and deferential relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a demonstration of his growing willingness to flout diplomatic convention and the concerns of US allies, Trump apparently plans to meet with the Russian leader alone, likely with only translators in the room, at the start of their summit in Helsinki, Finland, on July 16.

The CNN article I quoted from goes on to say “it’s not particularly unusual.”

But it is. This is absolutely not normal.

I don’t think the Republicans are actively selling out to Russia, but they are so busy in their zeal to create a government of the black people by the white people for the rich people that they’ll go along with anything, and then undo things after Trump’s presidency is over.

I don’t think he GAF about a Nebraska GOP office. He usually reserves his dark powers for manipulations that can get him the best ROI.

Given the character (or lack thereof) of the modern GOP, I’m going to assume false flag until proven otherwise (I mean…we know the IMAX-level degree of projection they always use, and since they constantly accuse “the left” of false flags…plus, what Nebraska progressive would even think of something like this? If it were a genuine attack, I’d expect it would be far more likely in an urban area where “black bloc” types are known to gather).

re: #20 Backwoods_Sleuth

Already news here …

Vandals’ bricks, anti-ICE graffiti cause $1,200 damage to Nebraska GOP office (goes to the Omaha World-Herald, more at the link, with pictures):

Vandals in Lincoln shattered one front window panel of the state headquarters of the Nebraska Republican Party overnight and damaged a second, doing at least $1,200 in damage with bricks.

Someone also spray-painted graffiti on the sidewalk in front of the GOP offices that said, “ABOLISH ICE.”

That slogan is a rallying cry for some immigration activists on the left who are pushing back against the Trump administration’s more aggressive approach to arresting, jailing and deporting people trying to cross the U.S. border.

GOP officials said Tuesday that they would board up the windows so volunteers could continue making calls on behalf of Republican candidates from the office at 1610 N St. in Lincoln. They also plan to install security cameras.

Lincoln police say they are in the process of collecting video surveillance from nearby businesses. At least one has cameras pointing the direction of the GOP office’s front windows, said Kenny Zoeller, executive director of the state GOP.

Investigators were still trying to determine what time the incident took place, sometime between midnight and a little after 3 a.m. A newspaper carrier notified police.

The state GOP, like the state Democratic Party, has had its run-ins with the fringes of opposing parties and others. But Zoeller said the recent rhetoric of “the resistance” on the left has emboldened people to act out.

He said he hoped no party would condone such activity.

Jane Kleeb, chairwoman of the Nebraska Democratic Party, condemned the vandalism as a sad and dangerous attack on people’s workplace and beliefs.

“I think it’s a terrifying place that our country is in right now, where people are resorting to violence, vandalism and death threats to political leaders, staff members and candidates,” she said. “And it’s happening to all of us.”

That’s the damn dumbest thing I’ve heard since….well, since the last Trump tweet I read, really.

But still - if that were so, black Americans would all look just like the West African populations most of their African ancestors were stolen out of. Not a range of skin tones as described so poetically by Redd Foxx (“…light, bright, and damn near white!”), for example.

It it were so, there’d be no worries about ‘miscegenation’ or ‘white genocide’, because the races would “breed true”.

If it were so, Barack Obama would not exist. Certainly he could not have been born of a white mother.

Origin

late 16th century: from Spanish mulato, from Arabic muwallad ‘person of mixed race.’

Pretty forceful for South Carolina. (Hey—there’s been a lot of dumping on this state during the past few threads, so…)

And another good bit of news about SC and the candidate I’m most fired up about:

National Democrats sent a Washington operative to South Carolina’s First Congressional District this week — a second visit in just three weeks since Republican incumbent Rep. Mark Sanford lost his primary election.

The return trip sends a strong signal Democrats see a big chance to retake control of a seat they haven’t held since 1981 — in a year when the party needs to win 23 races to win back control of the House.

Dear Uncle Ferd,
Our advance through the former country of the Red Hats continues apace. This has not been without some sad and melancholy episodes, however, necessary and just though these are. Yesterday an entire battalion of Meal Team Six was cut off from their line of retreat near here. They foolishly took refuge in a box canyon that was devoid of any kind of cover. The poor wretches actually believed the charlatans and witch doctors who had told them that they had all the guns. They were immediately subjected to a withering fire from above. In our humanity, we interrupted this several times and sent deputations with requests for surrender. These were rudely refused, for the same charlatans and witch-doctors had also told them that they would be sold to MS-13 for drugs and underage prostitutes if they were to fall alive into our hands. The firing perforce resumed, and continued until all had been extinguished.

Yep and the collective action by the teachers was so major because it had been so long since we’ve seen it at that level, in multiple states across the country. Easy. Nearly all Americans live paycheck to paycheck now and have a huge rent or mortgage to pay. If it can’t be done in a day or two with a high probability of success, it won’t happen until there’s a literal gun at their head.

I’m doing my best, but barely holding on to my sanity here. If we can’t laugh at Alex Jones, who can we make fun of. Keep them coming. We can laugh and freaks and be outraged at the same time.

Plus (forgive me for quoting myself) the only way to battle Alex Jones is to make fun of him. Logic doesn’t work against his fans or anyone that loves conspiracy theories. The 2nd civil war tag is perfect for this.

Without a doubt, this should be the only thing on the front pages of the media and newspapers.

Instead? It’s a mixed bag of other stories.

Want to demolish Trumpworld? It goes back to his corruption, criminality, and a big assist from Putin.

The Senate report pulls no punches on that count. Trump indisputably gained benefit from Russian interference. The only ones who deny this are House GOPers like Nunes, and Trumpworld itself (with their media echo chamber playing backing vocals).

Trump again seeks to screw minorities and keep them in their place.

He wants to reverse yet another Obama policy, and end race-based admissions preferences that help minorities gain entry to colleges. Trump’s next Supreme Court pick will probably end affirmative action programs designed to help minorities recover from decades of discrimination (that continue to this day).

Well, that judge ruled the same way that the School Bored in my home town did.

They believed that the sole purpose of school was to have a winning football team with basketball coming in 2nd. Actual education was put on the back burner. That’s why I spent a lot of time in the town library reading The Great Books Of The Western World.

Not sure where check mark 4 comes from:

Though Ocasio-Cortez whipped up energy among voters in the Queens and Bronx district, and there is little to compare voter turnout to because Crowley had not been challenged since 2004, the primary election was decided, like most elections in New York, by a relatively small number of people.

…With 235,745 registered Democrats as of April, according to the BOE, this comes out to a turnout of around 11.8 percent. This turnout is about the same as in Crowley’s last competitive primary, in 2004.

True, though 2004 wasn’t an “off-year primary.” So now I’m not sure either what she’s using as a point of comparison. She also had this mini-thread on NY voter suppression:

[Embedded content]

Yeah, I’m not sure what AOC is bitching about there (especially as that “suppressed” voter turnout was, at bottom, the key to her victory) - she does make a good point about the multiple-primaries thing we have here in NY: but “voter suppression”? SRSLY?
Admittedly, New York doesn’t go out of its way to make it easier to register and vote (anecdata here: Mrs. Jay is disabled enough not to want to have to go vote in person, the City Board of Elections* thus barrages her - and me, if I request it - with plenty of timely mail-in ballots; even the ridiculous single-candidate-primary ones), but Alabama it ain’t.

There’s a part of me that agrees - demonizing the other side, for no particularly good reason, is part of what caused the current political climate. On the other hand, there’s a hell of a lot of good reasons to demonize the GOP and the Nazis that they explicitly support. It seems that the people in New York know of the issues (Jeffrey Toobin, New Yorker):

For example, the Justice Department and liberal public-interest groups have charged that the decision by Republican-led states to cut back on early voting represents a form of discrimination against minority voters. So has early voting been cut back in New York? No—because the state does not allow any early voting. New York is one of only thirteen states that has no provision for early voting, and instead employs the archaic practice of giving voters only two choices: show up at the polls on Election Day or vote by absentee ballot.

But the disgrace of New York’s voting laws only begins there. New York not only lacks same-day voter registration—a valuable reform—but it requires voters to register at least twenty-five days before Election Day, which presents a meaningful barrier to many voters who want to participate. (Fourteen states and the District of Columbia allow same-day voter registration.) In addition, absentee voting is a cumbersome process in New York, which requires snail-mail exchanges between the voter and the local Board of Elections. (No e-mail requests are allowed for absentee voting.) It’s little wonder, then, that New York ranks forty-sixth in voter turnout.

Indeed, New York’s voting procedures have become a talking point for Republican-led states in defending their own regression on voting rights. In discussing their limitations on voting rights, North Carolina and Ohio have pointed to the New York rules. If other states can have restrictive policies, the argument goes, why can’t they? As John Kasich, the governor of Ohio, said when asked about his state’s decision to cut early voting from six weeks to four, “I do not know why you are picking on Ohio. Why don’t you go pick on New York?”

Out here at the other end of New York State, 400 miles from AOC’s city district, we had a four-way primary for the Democratic nomination to replace the late Louise Slaughter in NY-25. It was as hotly contested as that seat has been in a couple of decades.

Voter turnout was about 16%, and the (establishment, party-endorsed, insider) candidate who won the nomination did so with about 15,000 votes, which was also about what the other three candidates got, combined.

My takeaway? When the federal primary is (deliberately) held in June, way before the state and local primaries later in the year, and when turnout is this ridiculously low, none of these races has any national meaning. Up here, the establishment guy (state assembly majority leader, longtime familiar local face) ran hard for the seat and pulled out 15,000 votes. Down there, AOC ran hard for her seat and pulled out 15,000 votes. In a nation of 330 million people and 130 million or so voters, what does that actually mean? Not a hell of a lot.

I’m happy for her but in some ways, she’s actually s rejection of the Bernie model she claims. She ran as proud of her Latina heritage that is prevalent in her district. Bernie disdains so called identity politics. She ran a smart campaign and I applaud that but it’s not the game changer.

The Cosmonaut Cocktail Is the Perfect 4th of July Drink

Happy weekend, and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. Independence Day is coming up, but recent political shenanigans have made me feel less than patriotic. As such, I’ll be celebrating with Sasha Petraske’s Cosmonaut cocktail, because we should always remember that a degenerated workers’ state beat us into space.

Both Petraske’s parents and grandparents were communists and, according to his obituary, this caused him to possess both “a distrust of capitalism and a sympathy for the laboring classes.” Though there isn’t really anything Russian about this cocktail—it’s more of a riff on the ubiquitous-at-the-time Cosmopolitan—I’m still very into the idea of sipping these tart, very slightly sweet gin-based beauties rather than pounding light beer after light beer.

I wonder why their citizenship status was necessary in that header?

What they’re accused of is horrific and if guilty, they should get what they deserve. That said, there’s some Grade A scaremongering going on in that story.

Have not read very far yet. How long did they have access to the RNC computers? Did they have to hack or were passwords simply turned over to them? Did they have access to the Bush era computers? Exactly what do they have on the GOP?

I think you’re carrying this a bit too far. The kid asked for help. The tweeter was proud of their partner. There are lots of people that don’t know how to tie a tie.

You’re missing the point. The tweet says the guy in the uniform is a policeman, He isn’t. He’s not the tweeter’s partner, either. The photo dates from 2017, and it’s been recycled as a meme ever since.

True, though 2004 wasn’t an “off-year primary.” So now I’m not sure either what she’s using as a point of comparison. She also had this mini-thread on NY voter suppression:

The last off-year primary was 2014, not 2004.

Some of it was in million dollar jewelry pieces, and who knows how much was in drugs.

LOL. They deliver it to my bank when I order it. (Regrettably, my bank makes me fill out a slip taking out the equivalent amount in Ameros out of my checking account, plus a delivery charge. My bank does not charge to convert foreign money any more, and my bank’s ATM card seems to work everywhere in the world where ATMs are connected to International networks. It worked in Canada the last time we were there, in Germany, in Poland, and in Denmark.)

Remember when Republicans freaked out because of the Iran Deal because it allegedly was too favorable to Iran. Now they’re competing to cowtow to the Russians who actually interfered with our elections. At the very least, Iran has never interfered with our democracy.

I’m not forgetting or forgiving Reagan for making a deal with Iran to keep the hostages to stab Carter in the back.

Strictly speaking, a mayor does not have the authority under the US Flag Code to lower a flag. That is reserved to the President or state governor.

Gov. Hogan did order the flag lowered across Maryland.

The one time I lowered the flag in my town without a proclamation (for the death of our long-serving village clerk), I asked the chairman of the board for permission to call the governor and ask permission. The lieutenant governor’s office called me back at home and gave authority to lower the flag on the day of her funeral. The state then issued a statewide proclamation naming the day after her.

Wikipedia lists it as a conspiracy theory, albeit with a lot of circumstantial evidence in support of it.

According to the allegation, the Reagan Administration rewarded Iran for its participation in the plot by supplying Iran with weapons via Israel and by unblocking Iranian government monetary assets in US banks.

After twelve years of mixed media attention, both houses of the US Congress held separate inquiries and concluded that the allegations lacked supporting documentation.

Nevertheless, several individuals—most notably former Iranian President Abulhassan Banisadr, former naval intelligence officer and U.S. National Security Council member Gary Sick, and former Reagan/Bush campaign staffer and White House analyst Barbara Honegger—have stood by the allegation.

True story here: As a teacher I’m used to tying students’ ties for them. But no adult has ever asked for help — until I opened up a new bank account here in China. The bank officer, who I wager was in his 30s, asked my interpreter to ask me if I could tie his necktie for him. Poor fellow had the knot all cockeyed. I figure he had to rush out of the house to go to work, and didn’t have time to ask his wife or parent to do it for him.

How does one have $270 million dollars just lying about? Was it in, like, a couple dozen freezers?

It was a mere $39.2 million in cash.

The rest of the haul consisted of:

Jewellery accounted for the biggest portion of the seizure — 12,000 pieces of jewellery that Mr Amar said would cost between 660 million and 880 million ringgit (between $222 million and $296 million) at retail prices.

He said the single most expensive item was a diamond necklace with yellow gold — worth 6.4 million ringgit ($2.15 million) at cost price.

and

Mr Amar also said police seized a total of 567 handbags in 37 different brands. The Hermes bags alone were worth 51.3 million ringgit ($17 million), he said.

The police also found 423 watches worth 78 million ringgit ($26.2 million) and 234 pairs of sunglasses.

I remember hearing on the BBC that while US currency was found, there were other currencies as well, don’t know which ones.
