Trump’s Montana Rally: There’s Something Seriously Wrong With This Guy

Politics • Views: 44,948

For some reason yesterday I decided to subject myself to another Donald Trump hate rally (and yes, that’s exactly what these rallies are).

Maybe it’s because I haven’t watched one of these disgusting events in a while, but he seems to be getting even more delusional and incoherent.

There was plenty of his usual bigotry; vicious hatred directed at the press and Democrats, racist comments about “Pocahontas” directed at Elizabeth Warren and “low IQ” directed at Maxine Waters, wildly exaggerated fear-mongering about MS-13, laughably egomaniacal boasting, and lies, lies, and more lies.

But these two verbatim quotes consisting of pure word salad seem to reveal a deeper problem with Trump’s cognitive abilities…

“Rhetic.” We went from a constitutional law professor to… this.

Trump may be completely ignorant of the history, but “thousand points of light” was George H.W. Bush’s phrase for the many community organizations doing volunteer work to improve the lives of Americans. Something Donald Trump obviously doesn’t care about.

Of course, the crowd laughed and cheered as if nothing was wrong.

Montana is one of the most sparsely populated states in the nation.

There’s plenty of room there.

In fact, most states have plenty of room to welcome more people.

But as this fucker makes clear, the bigots only want a certain kind of person to be here - preferably white, Christian, and European in background.

Immigrants from Africa, South/Central America, and Asia aren’t welcome.

I’m sure hoping the electorate does its job in November, and elects people who will hold Trump to account.

When the Democrats regain power, they have to play hardball to reestablish balance in the political system to give the urban majority more power commensurate with their numbers. Add more Justices to SCOTUS, expand the House, give DC and Puerto Rico statehood and breakup California so it can have more Senators.

Breaking up CA is a bad idea. Like every other state, a lot of Democrats are concentrated while the GOP is spread out in rural areas. You would end up with more Republican senators than Democrats. Also, the state lines would increase the cost of business.

If you divide it correctly, each new state will have a big Democratic majority. Its unconscionable that a state with 30 million people has vastly fewer Senators than all those underpopulated red states combined.

Trump speaks their language. He did say that he loves the poorly educated — but they aren’t the only ones in love with him. People will overlook the verbal missteps of those they like; and there is something about the bully and the racist that appeals to tens of millions of Americans. The average voter hears what they want to hear and filters out everything else. These Americans believe he is truly a billionaire because of his brilliant business sense and they aren’t concerned about Putin at all.

Some Trump supporters are aware how pathetic the Russian economy is and their concern is directed toward China. They want to damage the Chinese economy because they see it as the real threat to the status of this nation. They dismiss Russia entirely and really believe it was Hillary who was involved with Russia not Trump, who is playing 11 dimensional chess. Cult followers, regardless of IQ, are delusional beyond belief (See James Woods as a very public example)

Other states are like that too. And the proposed divisions of California are designed to benefit the GOP. In any case, thanks to the Constitution the Senate is gerrymandered as is the electoral college (to a lesser extent) and thanks to GOP legislatures the House is gerrymandered.

The only hope is a true wave election that can overcome these ill-effects.

The disgust I feel as a Montanan to have that rotten SOB visit my state is beyond description. Many, if not most, people around me in NW Montana think he’s the real deal. I have to walk a fine line as a voluntary public official. It’s the lack of perspective and education that bothers me the most. Oddly enough myself and a friend are direct descendants of those who created the Reagan bandwagon. It just makes the present almost unbearable.

He’s propsing the Dem-friendly CA division for after Dems regain power, as you said, there are no remedies for the midterms.

I think there are hundreds of other reforms we can and should pursue before going with the nuclear option of dividing states.

What I think would actually work better is to encourage some of the companies to move part of their operations to states that could be flipped. That would also reduce the chances of the GOP playing games to balance it out and be way more democratic.

From another source today (downstairs): Lincoln said: Labor is prior to and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.

This happened in Columbus (German Village) yesterday. Rick Neal is running against Steve Stivers for Ohio’s 15th District Congressional Rep seat.

Don’t know what to think about the police decision about how they classify the crime.

Link to story and video embedded.

NBC4i - Hate group leaves sticker on sign in congressional candidate’s yard

Iframe

The story at the link…

Columbus Police are looking into an alleged neo-nazi hate group’s sticker placed on the campaign sign of an openly gay Columbus man running for Congress. And it wasn’t just left on any sign, in any yard.

Among the well-manicured lawns and well-kept homes in German Village is the home of congressional candidate Rick Neal.

He lives with his husband and their 2 daughters who are both African American. He said he expected opponents to take shots at his personal life.

“I’m the first openly gay nominee running for federal office in Ohio’s history. I mean it was bound to get some attention, right,” asked Neal.

But he never expected to see what he found Monday night. A sticker placed on his campaign sign in his front yard promoting the group “Patriot Front”.

“I guess it’s some white supremacist hate group going around trying to intimidate people,” he said.

The southern poverty law center refers to patriot front as a neo-nazi hate group.

NBC 4 reached out to Patriot Front to ask about the group, their purpose and the sticker left on Neal’s campaign sign but haven’t heard back. The group’s website includes a manifesto promoting white supremacist ideology

Neal said he would have preferred it if the person who left the sticker would have simply had a conversation with him.

“Neo-nazis. Or just the Nazis. Do you know what that’s all about? Do you know what they did? Do you know your history?” he said.

And though he filed a police report, he said he’s not overly worried and that if anything the incident reinforces his decision to run for office in the first place.

“There’s too much at stake in this election to be intimidated,” he said.

Neal said police told him they were investigating the incident as vandalism and not a hate crime.

There was a study a few years ago that showed that jobs based on unpaid internships result in jobs that pay less than those that don’t.

I took some shit for it on a couple progressive blogs, but this is why I am dead set against high schools that require unpaid community service as a graduate requirement.

If the work is worth doing, it’s worth being paid for. If I volunteer, that’s on me. Don’t tell me to show up and work for free.

I think there are hundreds of other reforms we can and should pursue before going with the nuclear option of dividing states.

The 22 smallest states have 44 senators and about the same population as California. Those small states will never agree to amend the Constitution to provide for proportional representation in the Senate.

Many small community groups that help people have shoestring budgets; their full-time staff is often paid minimal salaries. I think it’s worthwhile to teach children to have ties to their community and to help out.

It was always a compromise, from the start.

And that is why we end up sometimes being in compromised positions.

In the beginning, a popular vote was impractical, intractably so.

Today, though, it would be the easiest thing to implement, technologically.

But small states don’t want to feel diminished, so we’re back exactly where we started when Jefferson and his allies argued about these things.

As a long-time champion for women’s health in the SC House of Representatives, James Smith is a vocal supporter and advocate for Planned Parenthood. He recognizes the critical need for the full range of expert reproductive health care Planned Parenthood South Atlantic provides — including safe, legal abortion — in the communities we serve.

“A PPVSAT endorsement in the governor’s race sends a strong signal to pro-women’s health voters that James Smith can be counted on to promote access to basic reproductive health care in the state’s highest office, and that he supports a woman’s right to make her own deeply personal pregnancy decisions, no matter what,” Vicki Ringer, South Carolina Director of Public Affairs, said.

This brings me back to people advocating splitting California up (despite it always being a Republican ploy to gerrymander the split state so that the GOP gets 2-4 more senators out of it). I would only be marginally OK with this IF… IF they also had to split up Texas, and combine a few of those big empty rectangle shaped states in the middle of the country that have less people in them than the county I live in.

North and South Dakota… no reason for them to be separate.

Combine Montana, Wyoming, and maybe Idaho. Possibly others.

This should be the bare minimum that we should be expecting for splitting up any large population blue state.

This is 7 minutes of crazycakes. It’s a woman who is going on about a prophetic dream she had about Trump. You don’t have to listen to the whole thing to get the full effect of the crazy. Now multiply all that crazy by a million and you can see what we’re up against.

I left a comment: “Have you ever considered that you might be worshiping Trump as God?”

I have insane relatives who have had similar “divine revelations” or they “received a word of knowledge” that Gawd anointed Trump to be our King.

And they would never volunteer for anything unless it had something to do with putting down people of color and LBGT folks.

They get paid $2/day, and $1/day when on an active fire. And yes, inmate firefighters die.

I don’t fully share that perspective.

A wealthy ( through inheritance) acquaintance of mine is an arch-conservative from a farming background; although his career was as a software developer, he spent summers helping farmers he knew back in his home town.

Many small community groups that help people have shoestring budgets; their full-time staff is often paid minimal salaries. I think it’s worthwhile to teach children to have ties to their community and to help out.

Unpaid internships are a totally different animal.

You can encourage volunteerism. Mandating it means you are not a volunteer. You are uncompensated conscripted labor.

Truth be told, if I got hit with this in high school, I would arrange an ‘accident’ while I was on the job and a hospital visit to be paid by whatever outfit had me on their clock, so to speak.

You make me work for free, I will arrange that you pay some other way.

Agreed. I’m fine with encouraging volunteering but if you’re going to require something or make them commute, you ought to compensate. The unpaid internship has been the bane of so many in my generation. I might accept it more if it actually helped lead to paying work later but that hasn’t been my or my friends experience.

Getting injured accidentally-on-purpose can come back to bite you in ways difficult to foresee.
And showing an understanding of union history would be quite civic minded, wouldn’t it? I mean, I’d relish explaining the concept of work-to-rule to any and all willing to hear. Particularly anyone else conscripted into that sort of program. Also makes for a *way* more conspicuous protest.

Worked seven years as an unarmed guard for Pinkerton’s, from 1995-2003.

Had a friend back in the early 1970’s who worked for them as a security guard. They gave him a .32 cal revolver and not much training. We took it to the range, and it did fire. About half the time.

Anyway, one night this friend was working for them as a guard at a grocery store. (Where another of our group was head cashier.) Robbers came up behind him with another gun. They took his gun and pistol whipped him. (After crawling around the floor hurting for a short bit, he recovered.)

The robbers then took a paper grocery bag, and holding open the bag, went to office and demanded all their money. The store manager dumped in about a $1000 of loose coins into the bag. The coinage did not even slow down as it went through the bottom of the bag and scattered on the floor.n The robbers left at that point.

The friend quit the security job immediately thereafter.

I also turned in my piggy bank of coins to convert to currency … over two hundred dollars, though the coin hopper spit out a Canadian nickel, quarter, and a Loonie as uncountable. (Guess those found their way in their from the last trip.)

Unpaid internships are shams. I don’t care who does it. It’s a sham especially if the kid has to commute to a large city.

re: #100 Scottish Dragon

I took some shit for it on a couple progressive blogs, but this is why I am dead set against high schools that require unpaid community service as a graduate requirement.

If the work is worth doing, it’s worth being paid for. If I volunteer, that’s on me. Don’t tell me to show up and work for free.

It does make me wonder how teens are supposed to get a job to pay for things like car insurance and gasoline and get some experience in the real world while they are going to school. I have no idea what the community service requirement is going to be in high school, but for the middle school IB magnet my kids go to, it’s 10 hours for 6th grade, 20 hours for 7th grade, and 30 hours for 8th grade! Of course, because these kids can’t drive and no place will allow children that young to volunteer without parents, that cuts into my work time because I’m an independent contractor and work all hours. Their dad fell down on the job last year and my eldest didn’t get any hours of community service in. No big deal, apparently, because even if she failed classes, they would have moved her right on up to 8th (whole ‘nuther rant about that!). If she wants to have a shot of actually getting into a quality school this year, she’s going to have to do her community service AND get excellent grades in the very first quarter (which she hasn’t the past few years and the divorce didn’t help). She might be learning what logical consequences actually mean.

More on Jim Jordan. I just saw this at NBC. I am only putting up the last bit of the article because it is the most interesting part. Most of the rest of the article has been covered.

Although, apparently there is now a sixth wrestler that said Jordan knew what was going on.

The part of the NBC article I am covering has some interesting wording from former Ohio State Wrestling head coach Russ Hellickson.

NBC - Rep. Jim Jordan says he never heard locker-room talk of abuse by Ohio State doctor/a>

- - CUT - -

DiSabato and the other ex-wrestlers said they were prompted to come forward after the conviction earlier this year of former Olympics gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. The evidence that DiSabato turned over to Ohio State included a videotape featuring statements from himself; Coleman; a former OSU student who worked at a clinic with Strauss; and the former Ohio State wrestling coach Russ Hellickson.

After NBC News reported earlier this week that former Ohio State wrestlers were criticizing Jordan, Fury quoted Hellickson, Jordan’s mentor, as saying: “At no time while Jim Jordan was a coach with me at Ohio State did either of us ignore abuse of our wrestlers. That is not the kind of man Jim is, and it is not the kind of coach that I was.”

Several articles in conservative outlets have featured that Hellickson quotation in their stories.

But in the video made by DiSabato and viewed by NBC News, Hellickson said he told school administrators about Strauss’s abusive behavior and also warned the doctor that he was being too “hands on” with students and that he should stay away from his wrestlers.

Hellickson has not returned calls for comment from NBC News

Notice how those two sentences in bold work together? Hellickson said “they” would never ignore it. But then he also said he knew what was going on. Jordan is part of “they” and if Hellickson knew, doesn’t that mean Jordan also knew? And if Hellickson went to school administrators and also warned the doctor, and he admits they both wouldn’t ignore it…then Jordan didn’t ignore it either.

This is all getting clumsy. That happens a lot when you are lying.

Coming up next: internships where YOU HAVE TO PAY TO WORK.

They probably already have those somewhere.

Oh yeah—from 2013:

But some of the most desirable intern gigs go to the highest bidder - and I mean that literally. Earlier this spring, the charitable fundraising site Bidding for Good auctioned off a one-month internship at Marc Jacobs in the Collections Accessories Sales Department for $4,000. Over at Charity Buzz, another such platform, there are currently ten internships on the block including a one-day gig with Fox 2000 Pictures executive Jessica Goodman that offers to help someone “get your foot in the door.” With nine days to go, the leading bid is $325…

There are outfits like Dream Careers, whose website boasts of “Guaranteed Intern Placement. Top Companies” in cities such as New York, Washington DC and San Francisco and says that spending $8,499 for a two-month internship (food and housing included) is a “practical and wise investment in your professional future.” Another such company is the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars.

I’m so conflicted about this because on the one hand, I’m a firm believer of having kids learn to volunteer, but on the other hand, I see the reality and there is simply not enough time (and my kids aren’t even involved in any extracurriculars!).

Johnson said it was time to “evaluate” whether to lift US sanctions imposed on Russia over its annexation of Crimea, saying they have failed to change Moscow’s behavior and cut US businesses out of Russian deals. cc @RadioFreeTom

So four years of sanctions wasn’t enough to change Russia’s behavior, that makes it a failure and we should give it up.

But 50 years of sanctions against Cuba… just didn’t give it enough time to work, ending it was premature.

Got it.

To be honest, only made me trust the rescue more. We’ll be putting in an application for an older dog this fall. Post Office Ordered to Pay $3.5 Million for Statue of Liberty Photo Mistake

Back in 2010, the United States Postal Service (USPS) released a now-famous Statue of Liberty “forever” stamp. But it was soon discovered that the small stamp had a big problem: instead of showing the actual Statue of Liberty in New York, the selected photo shows the copyrighted replica that’s found in Las Vegas. Now a federal court has ordered that the USPS must pay $3.5 million for its mistake.
