Video: Samantha Bee Bids Farewell to Roe v. Wade
The GOP is right, it’s hysterical for us to think Judge Kavanaugh’s appointment would lead to the overturn of Roe v. Wade simply because they’ve been telling us it would.

Given that the Government has acted in bad faith from the very start of this mess, we should not accept at face value the claim parents aren’t “eligible” for reunification. Terminating parental rights is serious business & immigrant parents deserve due process. https://t.co/rtQ2htdwV8

With Roberts being the 5th vote, I expect him to do his usual Roberts thing, which is to chip away at Roe without officially reversing it until almost nothing is left. Once Kavanaugh is seated, Roberts as the swing vote will have the power to shape the Constitution into whatever he wants it to be, because as long as he is voting with the majority he gets to write the opinion himself or decide who will.

Actually, IIRC, this is exactly how the Kennedy Administration DID “sell” the idea of expanding manned space programs to include lunar landings to Congress and the public. There was some opposition to the notion (and from both sides of the aisle), but JFK’s team relied on two very solid arguments:
1) Dire predictions that the Soviets would “beat us to it” - again (memories of Sputnik were still alive!)
2) It was a defense-contract-like program that could be spread out to benefit the aerospace/tech/manufacturing sector with billions in Uncle Sam’s cash.
Win-win.

Why don’t they leave and get other jobs?
Oh, yeah. Nobody wants to hire them.
Maybe they could just leave the time that they worked in the WH blank, say they’d been travelling, or taking a break from working to reassess their priorities. Hell, if they said they’d spent a year in Rehab, it’s probably better than saying they worked for Trump.
That might work if you’re going for a job out of politics and possibly in Podunk, Nowhere. You are not going to get a job doing what you do or move up any ladder with the trump anchor attached to you unless you are someone whose name is visible often and Fox wingnut welfare might want you.
Other than that you are completely SOL.

Great article. As Bezmenov said 34 years ago, there are four stages to subversion. I believe the second stage, destabilization, started with the 2016 election. The third, crisis, will come with the election this November.
Once demoralization is completed, the second stage of ideological brainwashing is “destabilization”. During this two-to-five-year period, asserted Bezmenov, what matters is the targeting of essential structural elements of a nation: economy, foreign relations, and defense systems. Basically, the subverter (Russia) would look to destabilize every one of those areas in the United States, considerably weakening it.

For Trump, jokes about his creepy relationship with his daughter, his infamous haircut, his failed steaks, failed casinos, and failed marriages were fair game. But when it came to his wealth, Trump sternly requested comedians not take a stab at his net worth.

Mrs. FBW has decided she wants a puppy. She’s combing Craig’s List and similar places for them. We talked about what we did and didn’t want. I suggested she look for something Spaniel/Setter/Retriever-ish, because what she REALLY wants is another Golden, but the whole business of buying a purebred Golden is both expensive and full of potential pitfalls.
So, she’s looking for a mixed breed puppy. We discussed what we DON’T want - no Chihuahua, no terrier, no mastiff, no dachshund. Should have added no spitz. Nothing with curly fur that covers/gets in the eyes. No pit bulls.
I was suggesting Rango would be ‘Uncle Rango’, but Mrs. FBW said, “Won’t he be Big Brother Rango?” Rango and Zeena were cousins, with her about 4 years older, and she always acted like the Fun Police, so I thought of her as like Rango’s prim, strict, maiden aunt. Unfortunately, that’s what it’s going to take. There will be an outbreak of mindless violence against any innocent (and easy) targets perceived as “liberal” or “elite” or “immigrant” or black or gay or non-KKKristian, etc., etc., etc.
It will have to be brutally suppressed and perhaps then we can start to move on.

I try talking to the Bernie people I know well and they just say they wanted a change. And maybe I get that a little but when you can’t tell me about Bernie’s actual accomplishments in Congress, you do lose me. I can name what HRC has worked on. A nice voting record is just that but it doesn’t tell the whole story not to mention that Bernie’s record on immigration I don’t think I even need to bring up his record on guns is poor to say the least. He had Steve King praising him on that at one point. That should tell you. And you know what, it’s sad because Bernie ought to know goddamn better about the good immigrants do for the economy considering he loved bragging about being from Brooklyn when he would be in NYC. At least HRC actually embraced NYC’s Inclusionary values rather than blaming immigrants for taking jobs which is something Bernie has done but I digress.

Nancy? You show me a more capable legislative leader in the last 1/4 century. But we should replace her with someone else because … reasons.
I agree. I miss Reid a lot. I am not really satisfied with Schumer. I think we could have a much better Speaker but it’s not a huge priority for me and he isn’t horrible.

I dunno. I’ve kind of warmed up to Schumer in some ways.
What we have to acknowledge as liberals and I know no one here denies it but that sexism, xenophobia, racism, and homophobia can and do exist within the left.

Seriously, how fucking credulous must a person be to swallow and regurgitate that shit.
I found it so odd that she added that to her tweet. As soon as I read it I knew it wouldn’t end well.
There are MORE recordings Michael Cohen had of the president in his records that were seized by the FBI, according to Rudy Giuliani and a source with knowledge of Cohen’s tapes. @DanaBashCNN @cnnbrk

Maggie, there was no reason whatsoever for you to say “appears to be the only one.” That assessment aged very poorly. https://t.co/iUgKhRalIY

Maggie Haberman tomorrow: I meant to say “apearsn’t to be the only one.”

This is depressing. I don’t know how anyone else sees this question but I don’t think Schumer is anywhere near effective as Pelosi. Yet this is 60/40 Schumer. Why?

doh…Pelosi is not a man…

Schumer is a Senator. Pelosi is a Congesswoman. What are they candidates for in this poll? The Apples-and-Oranges Leader?

I don’t love either one (Reid or Schumer). I wish both had the balls Pelosi does and were as effective as she is.

Yeah it’s silly. I’d hope that both would be in line to be Speaker and Majority Leader. Would I rather the House or the Senate maybe is the poorly phrased question here but I dunno.

I don’t know. I think the poll is stupid and weird.

One of her finest hours that none of her purer than thou detractors give her credit for is rallying opposition to the Iraq War Resolution in 2003. I still get lefty blockheads who insist that Nancy supported the invasion.

It’s not apples and oranges if you consider they are both leaders of their respective “houses”.
re: #218 HappyWarrior
I honestly don’t get why so many lefties hate Pelosi. I mean maybe we do need a new guard at some point but if we regain the House with her, she should be speaker. And I prefer her to Schumer too and I like Schumer more than I did Reid.
Maybe if we elect another leader the conservatives will like us.

Female reasons.
Which is really fucking disappointing to see from Progressives. Then again, their hero in the last election was the OTHER old, shouty white guy.
This really shouldn’t shock anyone who understands international relations and how Putin’s strategy works.

How could she have used Rudy when he, like immediately, came out and said there were more tapes and they would be exculpatory? I didn’t read the article (I am maxed out on NYT for this month) but I saw what he said almost right after what she said.
Damn. Shit comes at you fast these days.

You probably know why a lot of lefties hated Hillary, right?
Then you also know a good part of why they hate Nancy Pelosi.

I used to feel the same way about Reid but he grew on me.
re: #232 MsJ

I think part of Pelosi’s effectiveness has to do with being in the House. It’s simple majoritarian, and Representatives have fewer prerogatives and ways of stopping/delaying/holding hostage. And the House tends to be much more ideological, because each member represents a smaller district. Senators have to win an entire state.
But, yeah, Nancy kicks ass.

The fucking clown that posted that poll thinks Pelosi is gone if we retake the house. I just said GLWT.
I hate fucking lefties sometimes.

I liked Reid enough personally. I do not think he was effective.

Just looking at it now… something seems off with that account.
Using the word candidate the way he did. Acting like the poll is important for something he won’t say what. And inviting folks to discuss (argue) about it.
Hey, it’s almost indictment-thirty, isn’t it?
Nothing would wind up my day better than a nice indictment. Someone from in the White House, maybe…
(/wishful thinking)
re: #201 HappyWarrior
Fun fact, Wilford Brimley was born the way he looks now. All joking aside, yeah I can’t believe he’s under 50 in The Thing. And I don’t think it’s due to a hard living lifestyle. He’s a pretty devout Mormon IIRC.
Some people are just “born old”; I’d put Sam Elliott in that column with Brimley.
re: #252 MsJ

Personally I thought Reid was good as an minority leader in the Bush years. I mean I get the need for new leadership but I’m not tossing Nancy to the side just because because. And I wasn’t impressed with Tim Ryan who challenged her last winter. I know you like him OA and I think he’s a decent enough guy but what has he really done to earn a party leader spot?

I think we are in for a lot of trouble this election. Social media is going to kill us.
re: #257 TedStriker
Some people are just “born old”…Brimley has been the same age (roughly) for 50 years.
Yeah. There are other people like that too. As you know, I’m a baseball fan, I cannot believe Earl Weaver is under 50 in most of the clips I’ve seen of him. It’s the premature gray I guess definitely added by smoking and arguing with Blue.
re: #252 MsJ

Yeah, my assessment of him was about his effectiveness too.
I wasn’t judging any of them on ‘have a beer with’. Though I would love to have a drink with Nancy.

Nancy and I would talk baseball lol. Her old man’s part of why Baltimore got the O’s. She’s a tough lady. Reminds me of my Dad’s oldest sister who is around the same age in that regard. We call my Aunt, Sarge without irony. The funny thing is Dad’s other sister is the total opposite in personality and much like my Nana was. Both great ladies but I would not want to get into a war of words or wits with my oldest Aunt.

I’m still on the fence about Ryan. He can be a bit too abrasive in his comments. But he is from Youngstown/Warren area (Niles) and rough and tumble is a big part of that part of Ohio.
Might as well be from Pittsburgh…or Jersey!
I always tell people…there are huge differences between the three major “C” cities in Ohio. Over 100 miles apart and worlds away in attitude.
I guess this seniority stuff is why I understand why some do want Biden and I get it especially since Biden would be better than anyone to restore our rep abroad. Before Obama picked him to be his running mate, I thought Biden and not HRC would have been the perfect SoS choice. Liked Kerry who got it later too.

Yeah Cincy is very Southern culturally isn’t it? But yeah my grandfather had an aunt that lived in Youngstown. Of the C’s, Cleveland would probably be the most appealing to me I guess. I kind of like cities like that. I tease Cleveland because I’m a Pittsburgh fan but you know that I have a soft spot for it because of Guyer and my family connections there.

I would have loved it had Clinton been Veep.
I think a black dude and a woman would have been a bit too much for some folks.

Financial Times: Henry Kissinger: ‘We are in a very, very grave period’

It might nave been yeah. Kaine got vetted for that job too but he thought he was too inexperienced with federal politics at that time. I like Kaine but he’s not presidential timber. “Too nice.” He’s often compared to Biden in some ways but I think Joe is more a street fighter type and Senator Kaine more easy going. They’re both great guys mind you and I love havign Kaine as my Senator but I don’t know if he’d be our best pick for President.

You’d like Columbus too. It is a business, government, education city. Much newer and cleaner than Cleveland due to growth from 1970 on.
You’d probably see it much like DC/Northern Virginia.
But I love Cleveland a lot too. I followed Cleveland TV all through my youth…so I follow the teams and the people and the city has made a pretty good turn…sort of like Pittsburgh in that sense.
Columbus really is very low key for reasons “power” town. The money, connections and all that is very strong here. We are so tied to the Fed government, but it is all very low key. It is that way by plan. Everyone can just fly over…but they’d be surprised who stops here.
(Yeah, I know there is a new thread…)

Columbus just seems like what I’d know already but yeah I probably would like it. Cincy just doesn’t appeal to me and the food choices in Cleveland and Columbus would probably be more like minded to me.

I love Joe Biden, but I’ve said it before, I don’t think he’d be a good candidate at all—when he’s run for president (twice) he’s crashed and burned quickly.
1988—his whole actual campaign lasted 3-1/2 months before Biden withdrew from the nomination race on September 23, 1987, saying his candidacy had been overrun by “the exaggerated shadow” of his past mistakes.
2008—He came in 5th in the Iowa caucus with 1% of the votes and dropped out.
Undeservedly, he’s gotten the rep as a “gaffe machine” and not that bright. (I emphasize undeservedly, because I don’t agree with either) That would be hard to overcome once the rubber hits the road. They’ll dig up the plagiarism crap and any off the cuff thing he’s ever said. Plus, he’ll be 78 years old in 2020.

I agree with that. That’s why I prefer someone younger. I’m not sure who yet. I’m liking Cory though. Kamala is another. And man if he weren’t running against Cruz, Beto, man I love that guy. Beto reminds me of one of my personal heroes, RFK who funnily enough I think Beto even resembles a little and shares the same Robert Francis monicker. But what I love about Beto is how keenly he pays attention to the issues effecting people.
