Office Trumper has a new insane conspiracy theory: Obama is pulling Putins strings from behind the curtain and orchestrating this whole Russian mess just because he hates Trump and wants to make him look stupid.

Sigh…

Did Obama force Trump to kiss Putin’s ass repeatedly? Trumpers need to fucking get in the real world. TRUMP CARES MORE ABOUT HELPING PUTIN THAN HE DOES OUR ALLIES. And you fell for it.

This brought back a lot of memories for me, no wonder why I will always be fond of Japanese cars haha:

Papadakis remembered that powerful sense of connection in the street racing scene in the early 1990s, even though there were racial differences between them. These were community-based car clubs, so people tended to be of similar ethnic backgrounds because that’s just who you lived close to. But these different clubs came into contact with one another once there was a common meet-up point.

Hispanic crews would come out of East LA and Asian communities came out of Irvine or San Gabriel Valley.

“In Los Angeles in that era, there were a lot of Asian gangs,” he said. “And [there] were Japanese cars, usually with Asian owners. I was one of the rare white guys at these street races.”

My sister was complaining that “if a store is going to put out shirts that are offensive to my political views, I’m just not going to shop there.” I’m trying to resist the temptation to post the picture of the lovely couple with the “FUCK YOUR FEELINGS” t-shirts from the campaign and ask her what she thinks of that.

Wait, so no-longer-in-power Obama is manipulating Putin, whom Trump has been sweet on for YEARS, to manipulate Trump to make Trump look bad?

This is like taking Occam’s Razor and trying to shave with the dull side. Or maybe taking Occam’s Razor and slashing your wrists.

I sort of became friends with a distant cousin who took issue with my defense of Samantha Bee calling Ivanka the c-word. I actually condemned the word’s use but I said that people should be more angry at Ivanka’s silence on the issue that made Sam call her that. She didnt’ want to hear it unfortunately. It’s too because she’s a nice lady but she really thinks that everyone’s too hard on Ivanka and Melania and Donald too. I didn’t know her in the Obama years so I don’t know if she’s being inconsistent or not. Her older sister told me not to sweat it because her sister gets wound up by the right wing propaganda. I was surprised to see that she liked my photo of a transinclusioanry bathroom though that I just had to snap at a local restaurant to give my “right on” to.

I’ve been wanting to spread a rumor for years that Alex Jones is an agent of the Deep State designed to undercut REAL critics of the deep state. But as much as I despise that asshole, I don’t want the violence brought on him that his bullshit has done on others so I’ve shied away from it but I wouldn’t be upset if Jones had to go on his show and repeatedly explain I’M NOT AN ASSET!. The funy thing to me is though Jones spent the entire Bush and Obama years paranoid as shit about the Executive Branch but now that the Executive Branch speaks his bigoted language, he loves it. Sort of proves that all his bullshit the proceeding fifteen years was simply because he was an asshole woh didn’t like was in charge not because of genuinely fear of oto much power i nthe executive.

Right and his FP really isn’t that good. I think some people were just happy to see someone call Bush’s mistakes and they certailny were that but there was and is another way between Paul’s Robert Taftian FP and Bush’s Neo-conservatism and now Trump’s Ask not what your country can do for you but what I can do for Russia’s interests.

Yep, there was that too. And man his excuses about that. It made me want to smack the man. Ron Paul 2008 had a lot of the elements of Bernie and Trump’s campaign. In fact, I saw a lot of the same stuff I saw in 2008 that I did in 2016. The difference was in 2008 that Obama succeeded ultimately thankfully. We will see other candidates like them in the future. The discussion of Wilford Brimley in the last string reminded me of another actor who often played characters older than himself, Walter Brennan. Like Brimley, he stuck around long enough to play old guys when he really was old.
I did not know, and was disappointed to learn, that Brennan was a wingnut extremist even by the standards of the time.

During the 1960s, he became convinced that the antiwar and civil rights movements were being aided by overseas Communists from the Soviet Union through their support of local communist sympathizers and agitators, and said as much in interviews. He told reporters that he believed the civil rights movement - in particular, the riots in places such as Watts and Newark and demonstrations in Birmingham - had been the result of otherwise content “Negroes” being stirred up by a small number of “troublemakers” with anti-American agendas. In 1972, he supported the presidential campaign of conservative California congressman John Schmitz over that of Richard Nixon, whom he believed to be too moderate. He was a member of the John Birch Society.

Ironic that the Birch society now supports Russian subversion, and may in fact be one its leading conduits.

re: #74 Shiplord Kirel, Friend of Moose and Squirrel

The discussion of Wilford Brimley in the last string reminded me of another actor who often played characters older than himself, Walter Brennan. Like Brimley, he stuck around long enough to play old guys when he really was old.
I did not know, and was disappointed to learn, that Brennan was a wingnut extremist even by the standards of the time.

Ironic that the Birch society now supports Russian subversion, and may in fact be one its leading conduits.

John Schmitz ended being a real catch. But yeah I’ve heard about Brennan being a RW nut. Too bad. Great character actor. I think a lot of people would be surprised to see the starkness in the divide in Hollywood in those days. I’ve sort of learned a little about it since it’s come up in that Nixon bio I got. Congressman Rankin used Antisemitism to attack many well known Jewish actors who used stage names. One of the most famous being Edward G. Robinson.

Libertarians are less likely to shun bigots. Even if they disagree with their bigotry, they still won’t shun them full-stop because they believe they shouldn’t have to bear that weight on their own shoulders.

It is interesting though to look at the discussions on their TLs. I mostly know the more saner ones. You know people who don’t think Ludwig von Mises was the greatest economist ever. I mean we still disagree more than we don’t obviously about economics but they’re not the kind of people who overlook bigotry thank goodness.

I’m very close to a retired Episcopalian priest…I consider him a second father. He is an old school conservative, Reagan era or even prior. Before he retired he didn’t have much time to engage with the world online. Now he does. And he cannot stand Donald Trump.

He started posting about it. Many of his former parishioners started going for his throat. He tried to engage with them and have a dialog. They just kept attacking him, over and over. This man was their priest for over 30 years. They don’t care. He’s a “lib” to them now. Which is HILARIOUS to me, he and I have been arguing politics since I met him.

I’ve painfully watched him trying to talk to them as a man of God for the past 6 months. He’s gotten nowhere.

He finally messaged me yesterday and said, “I have prayed on this, looked inward, mediated, and have come to the conclusion I have to block these assholes. They’re unhinged.”

LMAO. I still don’t get how an Austrian economist from the 20th century has so many devotees who defend slavery. Hey, wanted to tell you that I’ve found a potential ~2nd cousin via 23&Me.
It’s on the 100% Irish branch with a fairly not so common Irish surname. We have a fairly decent DNA match (he’s probably a closer match to my brother because they’re both in the same haploid group). Both of our family connections have huge Buffalo NY connections. This is the Fenian branch of my family (my ill eagle immigrant heritage, LOL!)
There’s a very good possibility that our great-grandfathers were brothers. This is a branch of the family that I really have only tiny clues about, due to my grams’ family stories told to me in childhood, and you know how THAT usually turns out.

Well, I’m back from Real Life.

Mmmirele, you mentioned that you might not read Prairie Fires because you can’t stand Libertarians. There’s practically no politics in the book until the New Deal, and little after. Even then, Laura isn’t interested in politics, and Rose is more like crazy conspiracy lady (I mean undiagnosed mental illness, not nutcase). So I don’t think you’d have a problem with the book, except maybe the last chapter (and it Is really good.

Also: those weird Russian quotes that Translate was having so much trouble with are proverbs in the first set (something like “strike while the iron is hot”), and the second was about how the crop isn’t as good some places as it was last year, but it’s going to be okay. More or less, I just skimmed it.

I’m going canvassing tomorrow in the Central Valley (ugh, hot), and I have to leave at the crack of dawn, so I’m going to step away from LGF for a while. Probably an even shorter interval than Maggie from Twitter.

Oh by the way, before I forget:

Didn’t have a chance to respond in the last post due to being slammed with work and a new post was made anyways.

So she responded, she wasn’t avoiding me intentionally. She was just feeling like crap all week and I’m sure her social media activity was just a way to distract from the shit she’s going through.

Anyways, I didn’t press her on anything else. Just told her that I’m here for her when she needs someone, and that I’m only a call or text away. And left it at that, as MsJ and others have strongly emphasized. Everyone deals with matter like this in their own way, as not everyone shuts themselves off from everybody or something. It’s weird, but that’s human nature so we’re unpredictable of course.

She was always there for me when I needed someone, and always allowed me to talk about things so personal that I couldn’t fathom discussing on here (and I am personal to a lot of you guys as opposed to my FB). I just wanted to return the favor and act on my gratitude, but at times it can become counterproductive if you become obsessive over it. Which I’ll admit, I do obsess over the need to prevent myself from being an ingrate. Happy mediums, I suppose.

Which is why I’m grateful for the brutal and blunt honesty that all of you provide. I don’t like sugar-coating and anyone who gives me “tough love” is someone I would always respect because they’re always keeping it real and not keeping me in a little bubble of make-believe.

I still feel really fucking stupid for being so fucking irrational this entire fucking time though. I’m going to be beating myself up a lot over this, even though I didn’t do any knee-jerk reactions (thank God).

To me, she’s one of 3 sources of information/observation on Trump that make him understandable. The other two are Josh Marshall and The Hoarse Whisperer.

Well well well:

Russian operatives blasted 18,000 tweets ahead of a huge news day during the 2016 presidential campaign. Did they know what was coming?

On the eve of one of the newsiest days of the 2016 presidential election season, a group of Russian operatives fired off tweets at a furious pace, about a dozen each minute. By the time they finished, more than 18,000 had been sent through cyberspace toward unwitting American voters, making it the busiest day by far in a disinformation operation whose aftermath is still roiling U.S. politics.

And then there’s this:

Linvill and Warren, who have written a paper on their research now undergoing peer review, identified 230 accounts they categorized as “Left Trolls” because they sought to infiltrate left-wing conversation on Twitter.

But the Left Trolls did so in a way clearly designed to damage Clinton, who is portrayed as corrupt, in poor health, dishonest and insensitive to the needs of working-class voters and various minority groups. By contrast, the Left Trolls celebrated Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and his insurgent primary campaign against Clinton and, in the general election, Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

Less than two weeks before election day, for example, the Left Troll account @Blacktivists tweeted, “NO LIVES MATTER TO HILLARY CLINTON. ONLY VOTES MATTER TO HILLARY CLINTON.”

Ninety-three of the Left Troll accounts were active on Oct. 6 and 7, each with an average following of 1,760 other Twitter accounts.

How about making a stipend for them from the massive profits the state is accruing from legal marijuana sales? Not too difficult, is it?

Sure but the larger point is it’s irrelevant to the question in front of them and I don’t think most of the judges (at least the white ones) really want to start opening the door to discussions of reparations in general. Which is why I feel like they’re only raising the issue of cost as a way to pump the brakes.

I heard a theory a few years ago that social media was making people think everyone else’s lives were better than theirs (because everyone only posts the fun stuff to make it look better than it is)…

Personally, I think it’s just that anxiety disorders have increased dramatically since we’ve had a president we need to be anxious about.

I know there are some people who have lived in Japan or appreciate the culture there. I lived there for several years, too. I returned recently and really enjoyed my stay. But this documentary reminded me that Japan is a stubbornly patriarchal society that ranks among the lowest in terms of real women’s rights (they have toothless laws that aren’t enforced). I recently watched a documentary about a young woman looking for a career in journalism who was raped by a famous journalist with connections to Abe, the PM of Japan. The thing is, while it is clear that Japan is behind other post-industrialized countries in how it treats sexual violence, it wasn’t long ago that America was the same place. Here is a link to the documentary. It runs about an hour, but is worth watching:

ICYMI, that article on the domestic Trump Baby Blimp also revealed there is something of an enthusiasm gap going on: while the blimp guys raised way MORE money than they wanted,

Meantime, another apparent opponent of the Trump baby blimp had plans to pop the offending item.

Kathie Kitt Conklin of New Jersey started her own GoFundMe page, this one asking for donations, should she be arrested for deflating the balloon and need to be bailed out, reports the Asbury Park Press.

“I’m tired of people disrespecting our President! I plan on taking out this ridiculous balloon…” the page stated, before GoFundMe reportedly took it down for violating its terms of service.

She reportedly raised $285 toward her $1,000 goal, with donors getting refunds.

To me, $4,500 seems cheap for a TBB, but there we are: MAGA one mocking balloon at a time!

Think about what an Impeachment or Federal Court conviction would mean to America.

Is trump an illegal President?
Are the appointments, EO’s, international agreements, etc. valid.
Of course, following the Constitution, that would make Pence POTUS, and if he’s drug in then Ryan. Of course, Pence might get to appoint a new VP before he goes down the drain.

Of course, following the Constitution, that would make Pence POTUS, and if he’s drug in then Ryan. Of course, Pence might get to appoint a new VP before he goes down the drain.

What a friggin’ mess…

Russia benefits either way.

The judge should have informed the state bar association of intent to pursue disbarment for Kobach.

Remedial classes is as close to that step as a judge is going to get.

Give kobach time. He is on quite the roll. Next time, buh bye license.

With all that’s coming out about Russia hacking our election, sowing divisions, planting trolls and fake news on social media, etc. … maybe some people who were hyper-critical of me at the time can understand why I was highly suspicious of the whole Snowden-Greenwald affair.

And Greenwald’s behavior to date has done nothing to make me less suspicious.

I joined here because it was one of the very very few political blogs that did not blindly swallow everything GG said.

If you get what passed through here earlier today, it’s gonna suck. I had three quivering dogs on my feet (usually it’s only one who makes his way into the bathtub) and in my lap for two hours while the freaking sky opened up and dropped buckets. Bo had to be sedated.

It’s less dangerous to pull out face forward. And is you ever need a jump, that’s easier too.

Some companies require it.

LMAO. I still don’t get how an Austrian economist from the 20th century has so many devotees who defend slavery. But my problem with the von Mises cult is that they’re all about their theories at the expense of reality. They are in effect a lot like Marxists in that way. I’m a Keynesian not just because I think JMK made the most sense but because I think Keynes understood economics is a living and breathing science.

And I had to sit thru that Austrian School bullshit in Pitt economics classes!
