Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. It’s a nonstop shit show from Trumpworld, and all the players are liars.

Every last muthafuckin’ one. Including Pence.

Especially Pence.

He doesn’t think we can do math?

Pennsylvania has 12.8 million people living in the state. Pence is crowing ~73,000 benefit from the tax scam.

Let’s do the math: 73,000/12,800,000: 0.0058 or ~0.5%.

Even if he was claiming that we’re talking 73,000 households, that would equate to about 292,000 people, and we’re still talking 2.3%

These fuckers think that a tax scam that benefits under 2% of Pennsylvanians is something to crow about?

Do they not expect us to do the math?

Where’s the goddamned media to point out this basic math either.

The ruling coalition party in the state of Lower Austria wants a law requiring “Jews to register with the government if they seek to purchase kosher meat. The same rules would apply to Muslims buying halal meat.”

This is ostensibly about animal rights and the kosher and halal practice of cutting a live animal’s throat and letting it bleed to death, which is forbidden under Austrian Law.

The Austrians see it as “accommodating” this practice but that Jews and Muslims have to “apply for an exemption”.

I really think, though, that animal rights is not at the forefront of the initiative.

Democrats, please, please don’t lose your minds and rush to the socialist left. This president and his Republican Party are counting on you to do exactly that. America’s great middle wants sensible, balanced, ethical leadership.

This is some sick shit he is pulling.

The GOP narrative is now that the Democrats are pulling hard left, throwing open the borders to drug gangs and giving away tons of free government stuff to be paid for by crippling deficits and punitive taxation on hard-working (white) people.

At RNC meeting, no one is sweating Trump-Putin summit

Austin, Texas (CNN)If President Donald Trump sparked a widespread backlash over his news conference beside Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland on Monday, one wouldn’t have known it from the buoyant tone among Republican Party officials this week.

At the Republican National Committee’s summer meeting in Austin, the controversy enshrouding the President was largely shrugged off or rejected — with party officials instead applauding Trump’s foreign policy work, including his public show of deference this week toward Putin and Russia.

“I am in full support of the President,” said Demetra DeMonte, a national committeewoman from Illinois, when asked about Trump’s stance on Russia. “He has been an incredible President, and I look forward to another two years and a second term.”

Nor were Republican Party officials who spoke with CNN bothered by the President publicly questioning the work of his own intelligence officials, who have concluded that Putin had directed Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 US election and to boost Trump over Hillary Clinton.

They’ve had time over the last 18 months to improve bot creation. I bet you could look at the speed at which those follows were created, and look at the clique created by the followers, and you could do a good job of predicting bots.

At RNC meeting, no one is sweating Trump-Putin summit

cnn.com

The Republicans are prepared to go down a road everyone pretty much agrees is a road they don’t want to be on.

They let Trump drive the big bus even if they never wanted him as the driver.

Everyone in the party decided to get in and ride and now they are being thrown all over the place as Trump careens from lane to lane, turn to turn, heavy on the brakes, then flooring it.

It’s one wild ride and many are scared now…this guy can’t drive!!!

Up ahead there is a road closed, bridge out sign…Donny doesn’t like signs.

Modern-day Know-Nothings don’t know that there were no passports or visas back in the 1840s. Immigration control was non-existent. The immigration center on Ellis Island did not yet exist. Processing at Castle Clinton in Lower Manhattan did not begin until 1855. You got off the boat and entered the country to seek your fortune.

Then when a certain faction of Americans realized there were millions of Irish entering the USA, the country instituted formal immigration control. But there were still no passports or visas required. The kind of passports we have now are a post-WWI development.

SOS over french toast. My favorite Army breakfast. Of course, I was in when the army still had soldiers cooking. I hated it when they went to contractors. Also had grits in the army. I left them to the army … ugh.

My first exposure to grits was on a spring break Habitat for Humanity trip to Atlanta. I actually rather liked them with cheese, or a fair amount of salt and pepper. Not my favorite breakfast food, but serviceable in a pinch.

They let John Kerry on Face the Nation:

SECRETARY JOHN KERRY: I found it shocking. I found it to be one of the most disgraceful, remarkable moments of kowtowing to a foreign leader by an American president that anyone has ever witnessed. And it wasn’t just that it was a kind of surrender. It’s that it is dangerous. The president stood there and did not defend our country. He stood there and did not defend the truth, he did not defend the facts… and the danger, it’s dangerous — because it sends a message to President Putin and to the rest of the world that the President of the United States, the leader of the free world, really doesn’t have a handle on what he’s doing, and that he doesn’t, you know, know either what the facts are or he won’t accept the facts.

MARGARET BRENNAN: So you don’t buy his walk back?

SECRETARY KERRY: I don’t buy his walk back one second. And by the way, how can anyone buy walk back after walk back when you take positions here, and then you take positions over here and- and you’re repetitively walking back and changing. We are at a point where after the documented untruths of this president- documented by many, many different media sources - that there is no credibility. You don’t know whether to believe or not to believe, that’s the worst situation you could have for a president of the United States in a dangerous world.

We were talking about the nutjob Michael “Lewis Arthur” Mayer, who was holed up at a cement plant in far south Tucson on the last thread. A local columnist for the Arizona Daily Star had asked in a column published today why the police hadn’t arrested Mayer for failing to show up for his assault charge on Tuesday, or for trespassing. You can read more about the crazy here (it’s pretty long and comprehensive).

tucson.com

This afternoon, the Tucson PD picked up Mayer. Here’s their press release:

ARREST - MICHAEL “LEWIS ARTHUR” MEYER

Michael “Lewis Arthur” Meyer, W/M, 39 years old, was arrested earlier today by Tucson Police officers at the Cemex Concrete Company property located near I-19 and Valencia within the Tucson City Limits. Meyer was arrested for trespassing on the Cemex property and for an outstanding warrant associated with an assault charge after he failed to appear in court on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. He was transported to the Pima County Jail where he was booked on the warrant and the new trespassing charge.

Prior to his arrest, Meyer “occupied” a tower on the Cemex property for 9 days. Meyer has a history of such actions dating back to 2014 at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada and repeated violations in the State of Arizona. He engaged in criminal trespass activities in Surprise, AZ; established a homeless encampment in Phoenix and another in Mesa, AZ; and, more recently, became associated with a homeless encampment on private property behind Santa Rita Park in Tucson.
This encampment produced a series of public safety concerns for the property owner. After being informed that his encampment was no longer welcome behind Santa Rita, Meyer directed his efforts elsewhere. He eventually found an abandoned homeless encampment on Cemex property and fictitiously declared, without evidence or corroboration, that the area was the site of a sex-trafficking ring.

Meyer’s various representations and claims were thoroughly investigated by the Tucson Police Department. No evidence of sex-trafficking was located as a result of the Tucson Police investigation. At one point several weeks ago, Meyer agreed to vacate the Cemex property. Contrary to this agreement, Meyer chose to return and trespass by illegally occupying the tower on the Cemex property.

Despite continued efforts to work with Meyer by city officials and community members, the Tucson Police Department has received complaints from various members of the Santa Rita Park Neighborhood Association as well as from other community residents that Meyer and some of his followers have threatened and intimidated them. Through social media, Meyer has made multiple threatening and hostile remarks directed towards various elected and appointed officials.

Additionally, the Tucson Police Department is working with Cemex executives to limit access to their property. The department will also be working with various homeless advocacy groups and other social service groups to help relocate any homeless individuals impacted by the closure of Meyer-associated encampments in Tucson involving trespass on private property.

And here’s Mayer:

Let’s hope he has some time to cool his heels in the lockup.

The circumstantial evidence suggests that Maggie is somewhat biased in her coverage, or at least in the amount of her coverage.

Again, it baffles me that a reporter whose first political beat was New York City Hall would end up being so naive when it comes to covering national politics, and especially covering Donald Trump. She acts like politics is all just a game, with no repercussions on the rest of us. Given that Mags has personal connections to the Trumps and Kushners, I would argue that the NYT editors made a mistake in assigning her the White House beat, unless they were specifically hoping for a more “society pages” type of coverage. She has provided that, as sort of the “Trump Whisperer,” but her reluctance to go for the throat — necessary for any decent White House reporter — is glaringly obvious. Helen Thomas of the UPI always had access, even when she threw hardball questions to every president she covered. A great reporter finds ways to get the truth, even when stonewalled by the Oval Office. Maggie is not such a reporter.

Yes. I can begin with the 1960s. I tried Quisp, but did not like it. So we never bought it again. Pop-Tarts were OK, but my mom’s bread was way better. I’ve had Egg McMuffins, but long after I left home. As for the other stuff, nope. Way too hipster for me.

Why does Bon Appetit ignore bacon and eggs, pancakes and syrup, sausage, corn flakes, bagel+cream cheese, half a grapefruit, cinnamon toast, etc.? Those I thought were staples of the all-American breakfast.

How STUPID is Jason Spencer?

A Georgia Republican lawmaker warned a former Democratic colleague in Atlanta that she may “go missing” if she tries to bring the Confederate statue debate to southern Georgia.

State Rep. Jason Spencer, of Woodbine, made the comment in a series of now-deleted Facebook posts responding to Atlanta attorney and former Democratic state Rep. LaDawn Jones, according to screenshots captured by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Mr. Spencer had posted a series of photos of the Jefferson Davis Memorial near Fitzgerald, including a caption saying, “This is Georgia’s history. #DealWithIt.” Ms. Jones, who is black, responded to the post by encouraging Mr. Spencer to get as many photos as he can, while he can, because Confederate-era memorials on public property will soon be a thing of the past. Mr. Spencer warned Ms. Jones that South Georgia is not the same as Atlanta, and that she would likely be met with “something a lot more definitive” than tiki torches.

“They will go missing in the Okefenokee [Swamp],” he wrote in response to a sympathetic commentator. “Too many necks they are red around here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about ‘em.

Reminder:

after 9/11, Teheran held a MASSIVE candlelight vigil and prayed for our dead. During our initial invasion of Afghanistan, they were EXTREMELY helpful to us — allowed us to use their border crossings, gave us the most up-to-date maps, their spies and security service provided our special forces with personal introductions to anti-Taliban militias. That was one of our missed chance for rapproachment; they extended diplomatic offers, but then George Bush (in a speech written by David Frum) named them part of the Axis of Evil, and there went that opportunity.
