Sane World Breathes Sigh of Relief as Alex Jones Is Deplatformed by YouTube, Facebook, Apple and Spotify

Weird • Views: 49,147

That sound you hear is millions of delusional Alex Jones fans screaming in unison (they do everything in unison) as Apple, Facebook, YouTube and Spotify all take the actions they should have taken long ago, before Alex Jones and his fellow con men spread so much evil poisonous garbage and warped so many minds: Apple Kicked Alex Jones Off Its Platform Then YouTube And Facebook Rushed To Do The Same.

But why do I have a sinking feeling that he’ll be back? The entire conservative world will be screaming along with Jones’s fans, and that includes many right wing politicians. They’ll be pressuring these companies to restore Infowars with everything they have, because they know Jones and his rotten snake oil business are actually helping them.

And where’s Twitter on this? Missing in action, as usual.

UPDATE at 8/6/18 11:42:06 am by Charles Johnson

Alex Jones is reacting with his usual even-handed temperament.

I want to see the recross of the defense questions.

His taxes were so complicated that he felt it would be good for the IRS if he kept some of his earning reports secret seems like a strange defense.

Jones isn’t being censored. He isn’t seeing his 1A right diminished.

He’s entirely free to go back and crank these conspiracy theories from his basement and print them out with a handcrank mimeograph.

But he’s going to find it’s hard to do when he violates the TOS of every company he’s relied upon for publishing and distributing his content for the past several years.

Twitter is the lone holdout for now.

Thing is, he should have been gone long ago. Same with other extremists - these companies see revenue to be had with these nuts and extremists using their site and generating churn/revenue/eyeballs.

A few are starting to realize that there’s downside to not upholding their own TOS and that revenues could slide if they don’t clamp down.

Does Trump understand how anything works?
The Carr fire would be under control if only we didn’t let all the water run into the ocean? I mean, if only there was a body of water we had dammed up west of Redding. Just for the heck of it let’s call it Whiskeytown Reservoir. That would solve the problem? Well, problem solved then.

The Ranch and River fires literally go around 3 sides of Clear Lake.

I think they knew there were SOME racists, but I think, like a lot of us white folks, that some things they heard, even some things they SAID weren’t actually racist, because they were dogwhistles.

And I think there was a fair amount of cynicism, and a willingness to cater to racists to some extent because they thought they were just a minor part of the GOP.

I believe they totally underestimated the number of racists in the GOP and the depth of their racism. I know I did. I had NO IDEA it was this bad.

So, when I was reading that list of who was “Pro Q” and “Anti Q,” on the Pro list, along with such intellectual powerhouses as Roseanne Barr and Curt Schilling was a guy named Isaac Cappy. Never heard of him, but now I know way more than I ever wanted to. So you should too.

I think Cappy just exists to make literally-brain-damaged actor T.J. Miller seem rational by comparison.

Private companies have the right to make private business decisions. No one has a right to demand a platform on YouTube, Spotify, etc. Let the right wing howl.

And here is a totally sane counter from Freerepublic:

Amen!!!

They are not a real private company. Which many people still believe.

These companies know this, and that’s why they don’t ever want to go to court.

Besides from the bad publicity…. Through the process of discovery it would be revealed that Facebook and Google are DARPA projects disguised as private companies.

This is how these companies grew so quick. They are funded by the Department of Defese.

“Too over the top” doesn’t exist for Alex Jones, just as there is no bottom to his depravity. This is a guy who promoted the conspiracy theory that grieving parents were crisis actors and their dead children never existed.

Believe me I know.

I just wonder how much he acknowledges it is all a nasty game for profit as compared to believing any of it himself.

How much grifter/actor versus actual wingnut true-believer?

If he is a true believer that is one thing. And it is bad. But if he straight up knows he is gaming then depravity doesn’t cover how rotten he is.

Sorry, Bernie earned this one. The Senate voted 98-2 for sanctions against Russia last year, and the junior senators from Kentucky and Vermont were the 2.

Yep, highly suspect. Still doesn’t contradict my statement that the Russians could be playing games to divide the left. Without specific evidence of him working with Russia, all we have to go on is that Russia is using him in their broadcast, which is not the same as him using them.

The government watchdog released a report on Monday claiming the Department of Homeland Security has not produced comprehensive plans for the costs and location of the border wall, which poses “an increased risk that the Border Wall System Program will cost more than projected, take longer than planned, or not fully perform as expected.”

The GAO report was commissioned in order to assess the Trump administration’s progress on the president’s plan to build a wall at the southern border, a proposal that became a rallying cry for his supporters during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Feature, not a bug.

They are well aware that this could divide the left before the midterms They are masters at this. We need specific evidence. I believe some have been asking those very questions and wanting to see his returns.

Because it’s harder to bullshit the plebes if they find out that they’re gonna be on the line for 12 figure sums when they were promised that Mexico was footing the bill.

However, both of them saying how they never knew there was racism in their party? Yeah? Bullshit.

You only have to watch Joe’s show for 15 minutes - any day - any week - and while criticizing trump he adds in criticism of Hillary Clinton or Bill Clinton or both. He ALWAYS brings up Monica when discussing trump and his female relationships - always.

He is and will remain a republican - only reason he dislikes trump is because trump attacked him.

his next rant:

DENVER (AP) — An Iraqi refugee charged with shooting a Colorado police officer last week was set for deportation before a 2016 federal appeals court ruled that a portion of immigration law defining violent crime was too vague.

A Department of Homeland Security official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity says Karrar Noaman Al Khammasi was ordered removed from the country on June 13, 2016. The person was not authorized to discuss the case on the record.

Immigration authorities began deportation proceedings in 2015 when Al Khammasi violated probation terms of a felony trespassing plea.

The DHS official says prosecutors ended the proceedings in October 2016, citing a 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that immigration law’s definition of violent crime was too vague.

There is so much I didn’t know about how the US systematically oppressed African-Americans which has left lasting damage to their community. For example, it wasn’t until the last couple of years that I learned that the interstate highway system was intentionally designed to destroy African-American communities across the country by running them through their neighborhoods, leaving them fragmented and isolated. Smug rightwingers who insist they earned everything they have themselves and African-Americans just need to get married and get jobs don’t have a clue.

Cook received hundreds of friend requests and messages from users of the pro-Trump Facebook group who professed a desire to rape or kill her. Facebook refused to listen to her or HuffPost’s complaints about the harassment until she told them she was going to write an article about it. Only then was the pro-Trump group, the source of the harassment campaign, deleted.

The same thing happened with Jones and his Infowars conspiracy program. Facebook, YouTube (an arm of Google) and other platforms refused to remove Jones despite his well-documented history of inspiring and encouraging harassment of the parents of children killed in a 2012 school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. He was only removed from the big digital platforms for breaking their rules on harassment after extended public pressure from the parents and Apple deciding to go first and boot him from their list of available podcast offerings on iTunes.

Huffington Post has an article up on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (mostly struck down as unconstitutional but 230 remains). Section 230 is the part of the Act that says a host of a Website or forum is not responsible for the content posted to that site, as long as that owner does absolutely nothing to moderate content (even if they pay for the content).

This section is why sites like Facebook and Twitter are why they are now. Alex Jones didn’t get the boot because Spotify and Apple suddenly grew a conscience. He got the boot from threats by investors and boycotts of their platforms along with the lawsuit against Mr Jones.

This law protects our esteemed host Mr. Johnson if someone here was to issue a death threat or something (he didn’t make the threat). It also protects massive multi-national corporations from responsibility in a way television, radio, or newspaper outlets are not protected.

The article is by Sidney Bluementhal’s son, noting that AOL was paying Matt Drudge to promote his swill content to all of AOL’s users, when Drudge Report slandered Mr. Bluementhal. A suit against AOL was unsuccessful because of Section 230.

That law was far more broadly interpreted by the court than Congress intended … there is stirring on Capitol Hill to revisit the law and revise it accordingly (tiny Internet startups from 1996 no longer need blanket protection from the government).

huffingtonpost.com

As noted, the law is why Facebook is allowed to have discriminatory advertising (for example, don’t show ads for my house to African-Americans) - they are protected by this law.

NEW YORK (AP) — A man who jumped out of a freezer and threatened employees with a knife at a New York City brunch spot and then died was a suspected cold-case killer who had just been released from jail in Boston, authorities revealed on Monday.

Carlton Henderson screamed “Away from me, Satan!” as he rushed out of the walk-in freezer at Sarabeth’s on Manhattan’s Upper West Side Sunday morning, police said. Kitchen employees stripped away the knife and took him to the floor, police said, and he went into cardiac arrest.

Henderson was facing murder charges in the 1988 shooting deaths of 26-year-old William Medina and 22-year-old Antonio Dos Reis.

Henderson, 54, of Cave Creek, Arizona, got out of jail last Wednesday when a judge threw out key evidence in the pending double-murder case and ordered him released on his own recognizance.

I’d take Ohio Senator Rob Portman up on that bet where he says he could walk over to Kroger and 90% of the people shopping there would not know there is a special election going on tomorrow in Ohio.

I know what Kroger he is talking about, I shop there a couple times a week. It’s a few blocks south of his office. It’s the Kroger on Front Street in the Brewery District, right downtown.

I bet 25% or more of those folks know there is an election.

Being downtown, it has a pretty strong Ohio state government and county government worker and a ton of lawyers and their staffs shopping there. Lot’s of insurance company workers too. Grange is a block away and Nationwide less than a mile. It’s a pretty educated shopper that goes to that store.

I doubt if Rob Portman has ever been in it.

New QAnon ‘Expert’ Is Guy In Band With Guy On Bravo Show (Wonkette, more at the link):

Alex Jones is having a bad day today. He got kicked off of Facebook, he got kicked off of Spotify — and, to add to that, he’d already been kicked off of iTunes. This means it’s going to be just a little bit harder for him to reach whatever potential cranks in America are not already listening to his weird rants about gay frogs. All because he goes around threatening people all the time. How is that even fair?

But he does have a new buddy! He’s got a brand new friend — a big Hollywood star, he claims! — named Isaac Kappy, who is ready to help him out all the pedophiles in Hollywood. What? You have never heard of Isaac Kappy? Wow, that sure is surprising. After all, he played “Pet Store Clerk” in Thor, and also “Rowdy Prisoner” on an episode of “Breaking Bad.” Jones had Kappy on his show on Friday to discuss how all the big stars in Hollywood are molesting children for the purpose of “soul sucking” — which, according to Jones, gives them magic powers of some kind, I guess.

I watched the whole video this morning, but cannot share it with you as YouTube has now also terminated InfoWars. However, I assure you: It was very, very stupid.

Where it is a dog whistle is because the other folks in his district think “Big Nasty Democratic Columbus” with “those people*” in it. So, they don’t want anyone from Columbus representing them.

Dunno, but Franklin County is, apparently, mainly Columbus (i.e. the more-urban/suburban section of a GOP-gerrymandered district, whose other sections are mainly old-industrial and/or rural) [h/t/a useful diary at dKos] . So probably yeah: as the Republicans seem to using this race as a tryout venue for their fall election strategy: mainly Trumpian-style fearmongering and puerile insult-flinging.

Addition to my comment…

A lot of Ohio D12 is fairly small town and rural. A lot of people probably don’t even know what parts of Columbus is in their district and most likely do not come to Columbus if they can avoid it.

Thanks you Gerry Manders for this mess.

Backwoods_Sleuth  Aug 6, 2018 • 6:00:53pm

what could possibly go wrong?

West Virginians serving overseas will be the first in the country to cast federal election ballots using a smartphone app, a move designed to make voting in November’s election easier for troops living abroad. But election integrity and computer security experts expressed alarm at the prospect of voting by phone, and one went so far as to call it “a horrific idea.”

The state’s decision to pioneer mobile voting comes even as the United States grapples with Russian interference in its elections. A recent federal indictment outlined Russia’s attempts to hack US voting infrastructure during the 2016 presidential race, and US intelligence agencies have warned of Russian attempts to interfere with the upcoming midterm election.

Still, West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner and Voatz, the Boston company that developed the app, insist it is secure. Anyone using it must first register by taking a photo of their government-issued identification and a selfie-style video of their face, then upload them via the app. Voatz says its facial recognition software will ensure the photo and video show the same person. Once approved, voters can cast their ballot using the Voatz app.

Kirsten Davis (the so-called Manhattan Madam, as she provided prostitutes to the rich and famous in New York, and is a close associate of Roger Stone), is set to testify before Robert Mueller’s grand jury next week.

nbcnews.com

She says she knows nothing about any allegations of collusion with Russian operatives by Stone or the Trump campaign, because she spent much of 2016 in prison.

As she is an associate of Stone, and is not connected with the campaign, it would appear from my non-legal eyes she is set to testify against Stone.
