It occurs to me that the reason that some Conservatives have suddenly started being people we can agree with most of the time.

They had Obama Derangement Syndrome, so they said crazy, repellent, things we could never agree with, but now, that’s passed.

They’ve seen what ODS did to their party (whether they know ODS did it or not), making Conservatives betray American values, and it sickened them.

I’ve actually seen the system break down. About a decade ago now, the Riverside County (CA) District Attorney’s office decided to get tough. The office would give assistant DA’s a case file with a take it or leave it plea deal. It was usually pretty draconian. So, what ended up happening was defendants were rejecting these plea offers, and demanding a speedy trial.

As a result, the criminal calendar completely took over the entire Riverside County Superior Court system. If you had a civil case, it was entirely possible that you couldn’t get a trial within the five years that California law requires - in fact, I was defense/appellate counsel on a case that was dismissed because of that rule. It was a complete mess.

They’re speaking out, some even saying the Democrats need to win.
The Trump cult just sees them as traitors to their fascist cause, but reasonably sane Conservatives can see some of their thought-leaders reject Trump. That’s got to help.

They’re not down with the progress we’ve made, but they do want to hold onto our way of life.

No they don’t want to “preserve our way of life.” They want to preserve their power. They see Trump’s cultists as damaging to their power, just as the GOP saw Nixon in his time.

By “our way of life” they mean absolute, laissez-faire, dog-eat-dog, let-‘em-eat-cake robber-baron Capitalism—for white males who are already rich, of course. All others are to keep their station.

2018 headline, Brexit takes us back the 1950’s…

telegraph.co.uk

“Women will have to give up work to look after parents unless EU care workers are given priority after Brexit”

Department of Health warns that dire shortage of health care workers post Brexit, means more family care, means more women giving up work to care for family.

The report states: “The risks to EEA workforce supply need to be considered in the context of continued rising demand across the health and care system.

“Considering rising life expectancy, population structural changes as well as increases in the number of people living with one or more long-term conditions, there are significant demand implications for the health and social care workforce.

“Unless we ensure such demand is met, there is a wider risk to labour market participation more generally, especially when considering increasing social care needs. If we fail to meet social care needs adequately we are likely to see a decrease in labour market participation levels, especially among women, as greater numbers undertake informal care.”

Yeah, but it also includes having elections and an executive branch that respects the courts.

They’re our allies in keeping America America, and they can’t roll back the rights we’ve gained as long as they reject Trump. If the whole right goes Trumpist, we have no rights.

They are playing with danger with the Trump base. It is all they have to get elected now, at least for some time. And if they piss off that Trump base they won’t be winning any presidential elections for awhile. The party will be split for some time.

We’ve come a long way through 2017 with a long way to go. I have little regard for “conservatism” but the trend of history was generally positive. I think too many Democrats took that for granted in 2010 and 2016.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A picture of two Ohioans in matching shirts at a Donald Trump rally last weekend has caught fire on the Internet.

The cleveland.com photo features James T. Alicie and Richard M. Birchfield, two friends from Delaware, Ohio, in T-shirts saying “I’d Rather Be A Russian Than A Democrat” during Trump’s rally in southern Delaware County on Saturday evening.

snip

Asked about their shirts, Alicie - who did most of the talking - said he didn’t understand why Trump is getting so much criticism about Russia when Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama weren’t similarly scrutinized.

“Russia would be a lot better off being our friend and ally than an enemy,” Alicie said.

Asked what he would tell Democrats, Alicie said, “To jump on board this train and give him a chance.”

To that, Birchfield said: “Amen.”

The New York Times hasn’t finished interviewing the Nazi next door to you yet to show you why he’s just like you.

The media is never going to come into “Trump country” and interview Democratic voters.

When the Philadelphia Inquirer ran a piece about a Trump voter in a liberal suburb, the author of the piece asked if there was other articles he could do. I mentioned “how about coming out to Trump country and interviewing Democrats” as no one ever does that.

PS: About the Illuminati …

They shuttered their Website some time ago. Anyone offering 250 large and a car is not really from the Illuminati.

After nearly 250 years, and following intense and lengthy debate, the Illuminati Order has decided to publicly abandon the Illuminati name.

This website was created in an effort to reclaim the Illuminati name from conspiracy theorists and others not cognizant of the true nature and purpose of the IO. But alas, it was too late.

More than a decade has passed since the IO established an Internet presence and the situation has only worsened. Most people have refused to believe what the IO said about itself. They preferred to believe the lies that continue to permeate the World Wide Web. It is now the official opinion of the IO leadership that the name is irretrievably lost to the ignorant masses and the weak, whining morons that want unearned wealth and fame. To the latter, the IO never has and never will support moochers and looters!

Henceforth, the IO will continue under a completely different name. Those with eyes to see, a mind open to the truth and a heart attuned to the same purpose will find it. They always have.
Carpe lucem!
Are you a member who has lost contact with the IO?
If you are an IO member and have lost contact with your assigned mentor or personal contact, you may re-establish contact by writing to Membership at this domain or by finding the new organization and contacting Membership there.

Please note: This is the only official “Illuminati Order” domain remaining. Do not try to re-establish contact through any other Illuminati-related website. Any other Illuminati site you find is either a fake or run by a different organization. The IO does not have a page on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

LAKE FOREST, Calif. (AP) — The Latest on California wildfires (all times local):

7:20 p.m.

Authorities say twin blazes rapidly spreading in Northern California have become the state’s largest wildfire in history.

The fires burning a few miles apart and known as the Mendocino Complex ignited July 27 and encompass an area the size of Los Angeles. It’s the second straight year that California has recorded the state’s largest wildfire.

Officials said Monday that the flames about 100 miles (259 kilometers) north of San Francisco grew to 283,800 acres (443.4 square miles or 1,148.4 square kilometers).

That surpasses a wildfire last year in Southern California that burned 281,893 acres (440.5 square miles or 1,140.8 kilometers). That one killed two people and destroyed more than 1,000 buildings.

The new fire has burned 75 homes. It is mostly burning in remote areas but has forced thousands of people to evacuate.

And it’s going to take all of that to get this country back on track. The only way that can happen is if the right is discredited like the left was for 50 years because of the antiwar protests.

Maybe the mass murder sprees that will begin if the Democrats win big in November, or if tRump is impeached, or removed from office, or not reelected (or even nominated) in 2020—I don’t know what the trigger level is—will do the job.

Oh, there are bound to be a few of them, but not a significant number. I’m sick of the Clinton bashing. I started working for the Federal Government as a Stay in Schooler when Ford was in the White House. So I’ve served under 8 Presidents and only two of them—Old Man Bush and Clinton really acted on behalf of civil servants. Old Man Bush signed the Pay Equity act which was supposed to bring Federal workers into pay equity with the Private Sector and Bill Clinton cleaned out the corruption in the upper management of Social Security. Bill Clinton ordered an OPM audit of Social Security that led to upgrades and increased pay for SSA workers and he reversed the draconian staff cuts Reagan imposed on the agency.

Whenever the Maureen Dowd types print their snide attacks on the Clintons, it makes my blood boil. And the way they trashed Hillary—she ought to have been able to sue those liars for libel and drain every last penny from them…

Maybe a few men could change careers and do some looking after parents. Whenever there is a problem in this world - the men always look towards women to solve it.

During the years that Bayrock and Trump did deals together, the company was also a bridge between murky European funding and a number of projects in the U.S. to which the president once lent his name in exchange for handsome fees…Trump testified under oath in a 2007 deposition that Bayrock brought Russian investors to his Trump Tower office to discuss deals in Moscow, and said he was pondering investing there.

Trump has said over the years that he barely knows Sater. In fact, Sater — who former Bayrock employees say met frequently with Trump in the Trump Organization’s New York headquarters, once shepherded the president’s children around Moscow and carried a Trump Organization business card — apparently has remained firmly in the orbit of the president and his closest advisers.

Ethno-nationalism down under:

Australia’s population to hit 25 million for first time

Australia’s population will reach 25 million for the first time on Tuesday, according to official estimates.

The milestone, driven significantly by migration, has magnified debate about the merits of a “big or little” Australia, and congestion in cities.

The most contentious aspect has been migration: is it growing too fast, or will it continue to benefit the nation?

[…]

The debate is all about the fact that the immigration balance has now shifted towards Asia being the dominant source of immigrants, not Europe.

Excuses by those who want to metaphorically build a wall between Australia and Asia is that the cost of housing is too high, yada yada yada.

But as the article points out, traffic congestion and high housing prices are all the result of everyone wanting to live in the same few spots in the whole continent.

Odie Hugh Manatee  Aug 7, 2018 • 2:03:54am

My wife and I were shopping in our little town here on the south Oregon coast today (my days run into the next day!) and had an interesting conversation with an employee at one of the places we stopped at while out. We only know the employee through our visits to the business and we’ve never talked politics or anything of the like with her in the past, just small talk and the business at hand. I asked her how her day was going and she responded with “Much better than yesterday.” I asked what was so bad about yesterday and she proceeded to tell us about a man who came into the store with his wife to shop and while doing so, out of the blue he started going off about black people. She told us that he told her that “All ni—ers are criminals” and that she said “So you’ve met them all?” She said that she asked him that because it was the only thing that came to her mind at that moment. She didn’t tell us if he answered her as she was telling us that what he had said absolutely shocked her. She said he was foul-mouthed and used lots of racist slurs while mouthing off about other crap that he was pissed about.

My wife and I both expressed our disgust along with myself stating “Well, look who is our President.” When I said that she said that the man had told her that he was a Trump supporter, which came as no surprise to us. I told her that some conservatives suffer from what I call “Conservative Tourette’s” where they blurt out racist, misogynistic or whatever crap at inappropriate times/places and that some require no alcohol at all. She told us that the guy’s wife apologized to her, telling her that her husband had been drinking earlier that day. As the employee said, and we agreed; alcohol didn’t make him say what he did, it just lowered his inhibitions. She told us that she had to go in to the back room for a few minutes after the guy and his wife left because she was crying.

She went on to tell us that her sister voted for Trump and what really kills her is that they are Native Americans. She said that she recently asked her sister if she thinks Trump is doing fine and her sister said that he’s doing a good job. The lady told us that she wanted to grab her sister, shake her and ask her what exactly has he ever done that has been good. We talked a bit more as we were the only customers there at the time before leaving. She thanked us for listening to her and agreeing what the man did was horrible.

I was brought up with good manners and to think of others, as was my wife. Our children have been brought up to think the same way. When we are out in public we use good manners, are polite to others and look to have a good time. I can’t even imagine the embarrassment that man put his wife through at that store, it must have been absolutely horrible for her. I have never put my wife in that position, nor would I ever.

But then I’m not a drunken racist Trump supporter.

To be fair, there’s really not a whole lot of other places to live in Australia aside from those same few spots. I mean, personally, I certainly wouldn’t want to live in the interior of the Australian continent, but that’s just me. Your mileage may vary.

I wouldn’t want to live in the Simpson Desert either, nor would I want to live in Bourke - but there are some wonderful places throughout Australia that are not Sydney and Melbourne. The coastal regions of all the Eastern states are dog’s own country every day of every year.

Here’s a thread from the Luther Blisset Project people, who are now operating under the name “Wu Ming” (ie “no name”). You can download the novel “Q” from their site here.

I’d never heard of that novel until it was brought to my attention in recent days. Apparently, it’s fairly obscure, at least in the US - and that’s the perfect thing to use for some trolling/shitposting.

If that really does end up being behind all this, man, I wonder how the QAnon Qultists are gonna feel. Will they have a meltdown? Will they doubledown and insist, “No, it’s totally real! We’re too smart to be trolled!!” Will they just quietly walk away, feeling stupid? I’ve seen postings from these loons that indicate they’ve alienated family and friends over this shit.

And more…

European firms have been instructed that they should not comply with demands from the White House for them to drop all business with Iran. Those who decide to pull out because of US sanctions will need to be granted authorisation from the European commission, without which they face the risk of being sued by EU member states.

A mechanism has also been opened to allow EU businesses affected by the sanctions to sue the US administration in the national courts of member states.

source The Guardian

I would need to research this, but I suspect that in a tit-for-tat, the US is far more vulnerable to EU sanction/lawsuits (in terms of American assets located in Europe) than Europeans are in the US. Bring it on!

What are the odds on the Euro becoming the world’s reserve currency? Honestly, I can’t see that happening with the Ruble (LOLOL) or the Chinese Yuan (well, more than the Ruble, that’s for sure). It sure as hell ain’t gonna be the Turkish Lira, which is headed down the crapper.

I am sure there are people working on this issue as we speak, including China and Saudi Arabia, two of the largest holders of T-Bills.

Trump basically threatened to just default on T-bills and walk away from them for cents on the dollar, which is how he has done business to date and that offhand remark already sent people into planning because they have learned to take him a lot more literally and seriously than most of his supporters.

Scott Walker raises six times more than Democratic frontrunner Tony Evers ahead of Aug. 14 primary

Gov. Scott Walker raised more than six times what Democratic frontrunner Tony Evers pulled in ahead of an Aug. 14 primary election, but the two-term incumbent Republican’s July total is about half of what he raised during the same period four years ago.

Evers, the state schools superintendent who has a commanding lead in recent polling over seven other Democrats seeking to challenge Walker, raised $109,445 in July and has about $158,000 in cash, according to campaign finance reports filed Monday.

Walker raised more than $670,000 in July, according to the report he filed Monday. That brings to more than $6.1 million the amount he has raised so far this year.

I think he’s term limited out but there’s a competitive primary due to Brownback fatigue.

As if any more evidence was needed that fundamentalism is hurting America:

Note that Heartland is specifically titling this conference with “America First”, in a direct appeal to Trump marks’ religio-nationalism.

I mean, if I lived in Oklahoma I’d be trying to escape, but not to Kansas…

The madness has gone billboard. If that’s defined as mainstream, then the NRA is closing soon because Maddow’s group spent some money on a billboard here in Texas.

To a degree it has, what with them showing up at Trump’s ego therapy rally last week.

I’m hoping like hell that Buzzfeed’s story about it being a massive left-wing troll job is true. I’d really enjoy rubbing a few people’s noses in their own gullibility.

Don’t overrread It, I’ve noticed that Trump offers the same praise for his candidates: X is tough on the border and crime and great for our vets, military, & second amendment while Y is weak on the border and crime and bad for vets, military, & second amendment. It’s like that in every state even those like KS who are quite far from international borders.

Agree on the “overread[ing]” part: AFAICT, coming from Republicans (and especially Trump), “strong borders” , etc. is just (like most all of their anti-immigration rhetoric) dogwhistle for “keep those grubby little brown people out of “our” country”. A message which they figure will resonate in a lot of areas, “borders” or not.

And yeah, reading those Trump-tweet endorsements? What a surprise* that they’re mostly all basically one trite formula. Maybe someone on the WH staff suggested a KISS template for the Moron-in-Chief?

Tell him to come back here. He needs to be among friends, if only virtual ones.

I get the feeling he spends a lot of time alone, which is absolutely the worst fucking thing to do when in the throes of depression.

He needs to know someone cares about him, even if it’s from a distance.

I doubt Hannity or Ingraham are going to stop kissing Trump’s ass. But when ‘Judge’ Nap starts talking sense, it’s safe to assume that the writing on the wall is starting to come into focus.

Remember that info last night about Ohio D12 candidate Troy Balderson saying to his backers “we don’t need someone from Franklin County representing us?”

I think that didn’t go over so well with the voters of Franklin County/Columbus and suburbs. Local NBC news sent a guy out this morning to ask about that, and Balderson said we need someone to represent all of District 12.

The reporter asked him again about the comment and if wanted to address it.

Balderson gave a creepy smile and turned away repeating the same statement.

He pissed on 1/3 the voters in OH D12.

The way I read it, the judge is set on keeping this from turning into a proxy trial against Trump. He also doesn’t seem to think that the judiciary offers any kind of check on the other two branches other than declaring laws invalid.

I agree. I was mostly trying to see if what I was reading was what others, such as you, were seeing. I find the biggest failing that he doesn’t think there’s a role for the judiciary in what is happening. He talks about needing a bipartisan commission, but doesn’t seem to recognize that Mueller was approved by both parties.

He also talks about the special counsel becoming political, but 1) it’s government so it’s by definition political, and 2) a bipartisan commission would also be political, and would be much more influenced by party politics.

South Carolina TV manufacturing plant closes — and says Trump’s tariffs are to blame

Beleaguered Fairfield County is losing another 126 jobs after TV-maker Element Electronics said Monday it will close its Winnsboro plant in response to tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.

The layoffs come a year after Cayce-based SCE&G and state-owned Santee Cooper canceled their decade long effort to build two nuclear reactors at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Jenkinsville, putting 5,000 construction workers out of work and wiping away a promised economic boon to the poor, rural county.

Element’s announcement also comes a year after Fairfield County’s last textile mill closed, eliminating 200 more jobs.

Damn this administration To Hell And Back.
EPA is now allowing asbestos back into manufacturing
By Sydney Franklin • August 6, 2018
Intro:

One of the most dangerous construction-related carcinogens is now legally allowed back into U.S. manufacturing under a new rule by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). On June 1, the EPA authorized a “SNUR” (Significant New Use Rule) which allows new products containing asbestos to be created on a case-by-case basis.

According to environmental advocates, this new rule gives chemical companies the upper hand in creating new uses for such harmful products in the United States. In May, the EPA released a report detailing its new framework for evaluating the risk of its top prioritized substances. The report states that the agency will no longer consider the effect or presence of substances in the air, ground, or water in its risk assessments.

then to trump i would say:

no one closes a money maker - you sell it
deciding to close a plant means its losing money
so how much should the owners lose and for how long?
should they borrow to stay afloat? who’s gonna lend to them?
and after losing and/or borrowing all this money, if it will be “much better later”, then all they’ll be doing then is paying themselves back what they lost or the banks.

this isnt economics
is idiocy

re: #328 Dr. Matt

He is such a fucking coward.

Rubenstein also sprang a question about whether Ryan thought it would be proper for Trump to pardon anyone caught up in the Mueller investigation.

“I’m not going to touch that one,” he said. Rubenstein followed up with a related question about whether Trump should be allowed to pardon himself. Ryan laughed. “I’m good, thanks,” he said, as if he were resisting a plate of hors d’oeuvres — not touching that either.

Rubenstein eventually touched down elsewhere, but the pardon question lingered, at least with me. It came off as a quintessential example of Ryan glibly blowing off what could be a monumental abuse of presidential power and a potentially gigantic crisis. I raised this in the car heading back to the Capitol. His eyes bulged for an instant, as if some defense enzyme had been released.

“I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about that stuff,” Ryan said of the pardon issue.

“Shouldn’t you?” I said. It’s speculative, to a degree, I allowed. “But if you’re not going to touch that, who is?”

“I don’t think he’s going to do things like that,” Ryan said of Trump.

“He already has,” I said, referring to Trump’s pardoning of lawbreaking allies (Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Dinesh D’Souza).

“No, I’m talking about firing and things like that,” Ryan said.

Trump has already done that too (James Comey) and has reportedly wanted to fire Mueller on at least two occasions. “My point is,” Ryan said, “and I’ve said it all along, Mueller should be able to do his job.”

Ryan seemed to become agitated by this line of questioning. “I’m not going to spend my time being a pundit, theorizing and speculating,” he said. “I’m going to spend my time making a difference in people’s lives, getting stuff done.” Now I was slightly annoyed by Ryan’s reduction of my question to “pundit theorizing,” as if Mueller’s investigation held zero significance to people’s lives. “I’m not going to spend my time getting into these circular debates,” Ryan added. “I’m trying to get an agenda passed.”

I pointed out that if Trump fires Mueller, it might be too late for Ryan to do anything even if he wanted to, and the country could already be well into a constitutional crisis.

“I don’t think — ” Ryan began, then stopped. “He knows my opinion on these things.”

ObserverArt and others noticed a string of tweets on Teleskiguy’s Twitter page and (rightfully) became worried. OA got in touch with authorities out there and asked for a wellness check.

Something got a little mangled, either in the police response or Tele’s explanation, from the look of it.

Most of it is in PMs upthread.

As an immigrant and a daughter of immigrants (with scores of immigrant family members in several countries), this news sickens me. But this just goes to show that the target was never going to be limited to so-called illegal immigrants. The whole point was to go after legal immigration in a way to target people of color. Their fear is that in a few decades this country will no longer be predominantly White. Democrats need to push back hard on this issue.

This should seal Manafort’s fate.

Gates said they set up various accounts to accept payments from the Ukrainian businessmen for whom they worked. Those businessmen routed the payments through companies that similarly disguised their involvement. At one point, Gates said, when Manafort learned that his name was connected to an account, he grew concerned. Gates, too, said he asked for his own name to be removed from an account to which it was connected.

The arrangement created some challenges. Gates testified at one point the men encountered trouble with their Cyprus accounts, so they moved money — again using Dr. K’s law firm — to accounts in the Grenadines.

Importantly for prosecutors, Gates made clear that no matter the name on the accounts, they were ultimately controlled by Manafort. Jurors were shown one 2011 email in which Manafort explicitly approved a money transfer from one of the accounts to his company, DMP International. Among the charges Manafort faces is failing to report foreign bank accounts.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. If it’s a day ending in Y, it’s a day where Trumpworld is busy lying about everything they’ve touched.

Whether it’s lying their way through what their “diplomacy” with North Korea has achieved, or about the ongoing Mueller investigation, it’s a nonstop shitshow.

Trump admin claims North Korea is reneging on deal to denuclearize. That’s bogus, considering there wasn’t a deal. It was a promise to continue talking, and North Korea has continued its nuclear weapons program and missile development programs all while giving Trump the photo op he craved. That’s one way Trump has undermined our national security. He was so easily played that everyone took advantage of him.

Meanwhile, he’s trashing the JCPOA and imposed new sanctions against Iran on flimsy grounds. Iran has upheld its end of the deal, and by reneging, the US is going to give Iran the grounds to say fuck this and restart its nuclear program and go nuclear because it’s giving North Korea the parity it sought. This is the worst of all worlds for the world, and undermines the nuclear nonproliferation efforts worldwide because countries see that the US and Trump can’t be trusted - so why agree to any kind of deal that restricts their own nuclear programs.

Then, back at home, Trump’s lies around the California wildfires continue to be shredded by actual experts.

Oh, and Trump wants to curb legal immigration - pushing for the very kind of white nationalist agenda that we’ve been warning about since he entered the campaign. Trump wants to curb legal immigration, especially when it’s nonwhite Christians seeking to become citizens. It would screw those already in the process, and signal that the US is closed to nonwhites (which is exactly how angry white nationalists want the nation to be - they’re not very supreme if they are that fearful of minorities).

These angry white nationalists (including goddamned Nazis) want minorities gone. They want nonwhites gone. They don’t want nonwhites entering the US.

They can’t take the competition because they’re stuck with their limited education and failed policies and immigrants are finding opportunities easier because they have more education and skills that companies are looking for.

There was a study done and released over the past day or so that indicated that the majority of new jobs created were in blue states - and not in the Trump bastions. Trump counties are seeing jobs lost at greater rate than Clinton counties. Why? Well, it goes to what people and industries are looking for and the kinds of jobs that are available. This is an ongoing trend (see back in January - majority of new jobs created in a handful of states)

From cnbc.com

- President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen is now being investigated for possible tax fraud, according to a new report Tuesday in the Wall Street Journal.

- The article said federal prosecutors in New York City, who already were investigating Cohen for a variety of business dealings, are now eyeing whether the 51-year-old undereported income from his taxi medallion business on his tax returns.

- Prosecutors are also investigating a $130,000 hush-money payment Cohen gave porn star Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 presidential election in exchange for her silence about a purported affair with Trump.

A hollow voice says, Covfefe.  Aug 7, 2018 • 9:33:19am

So I returned from the Star Trek convention yesterday. I’ve already relayed all the news that came out of it, but I noted a difference in the atmosphere, too.

One thing was that there was less energy — my hypothesis is that we’re all exhausted by our current government. (You won’t find many DT supporters among Star Trek fans — a group with “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations” as a motto isn’t likely to approve of him, also we may have a higher respect for facts than the general population.)

The other is that we always have the rule of keeping politics out of the convention, but this time they wouldn’t stay out. Quite a few of the actors and other guests wore “resistance” t-shirts (my favorite said “Immigrants Are U.S.”), and talk about what could be done kept creeping in.

The watchword of the convention was “vote.”

12:25 a.m. Gates makes one of his first references to the Trump campaign

There has been no significant discussion of Paul Manafort’s work on the Trump campaign so far at the trial, which is largely by design. The charges mostly concern the time period before he worked for Trump, and the parties were told to steer clear of any mention of possible collusion with the Russians, as that isn’t relevant to the case.

But Rick Gates - without using Trump’s name - referenced the campaign work on Tuesday.

Gates was describing how in 2015 and 2016, Manafort’s once lucrative work in Ukraine had dried up, and his company was in dire financial straits. He said the company, DMP International, did not acquire any new clients in 2015, and to his knowledge, was not earning income in 2016.

In March of that year, Gates said, he went to work for “one of the presidential campaigns.” Manafort, Gates said, hired him. We know that campaign was Trump’s, though Gates did not say the president’s name, and there was no further discussion of that work.

Yup. I’ve accepted that the mainstream news is 6 to 24 months behind on a lot of this and reporting from a both sides model that pushes them further from really breaking things.

There’s also the newroom bias that will not allow them to draw the common sense conclusions the people need if the subject is not the right demo.

And the profit motive can add a layer of suppression on certain reporting that they hide by saying they were using an abundance of caution but usually it just hits too close to home.

That’s what happens when your sole ideology is opposing what the left supports and vice versa. This isn’t your grandfather’s conservatism where conservatives actually tried to think of an intellectual basis for opposing the New Deal- one I must add that I disagree with more than I don’t but one that actually had people using critical thinking skills rather than “Hey did I trigger some libs lolz?” That’s Limbaugh’s legacy on the right. Then there is this brain-dead “think piece” over at Slate

No One Voted for Facebook and Apple to Deal With Alex Jones
Whatever they do with conspiracy theorists, placing the distribution of information in the hands of a few tech companies will remain a very big problem.

In the case of, say, Apple taking Alex Jones out of iTunes, that is a decision by a very large private corporation about the distribution of information in what arguably should be an open-market system. And in the case of his work on Facebook, the decision is being made by the executives at Facebook. Decisions about who get to speak and how they get to speak on basic communications platforms are really decisions for the people of the United States to make. Back in the 1930s and 1940s, we didn’t have the executives of AT&T making decisions about who could speak on AT&T.

What the fuck?

“Government shall make no law”

Now he does make a great argument for Net Neutrality

But we forget that Twitter, Facebook, Apple and the NFL are private organizations. As long as access to the channels of distribution is kept open and democratic, then they should be allowed to regulate their own content as they see fit.

Now watch what happens when Trump properties are confiscated all over the world. And we won’t be able to go to war because we cannot finance it!

I want to ask the people crying about Jones having his “free speech” violated think it would be okay if I had a show dedicated to the violent overthrow and immediate execution of Trump and his associates? Or if some American citizen was a Hamas, Hezbollah, or Isis sympathizer. Jones isn’t being punished by the government. He’s being punished by the market. For a bunch of people who claim to venerate capitalism and all that comes with it, right wingers sure as hell don’t understand a thing about it.

Lots of rich countries currencies aren’t “the world reserve currency” and have no problem financing their deficits. As long as the US is a rich country with a freely convertible currency, this isn’t anything to worry about.

Three swings

Yes, but we are also running a system in which massive deficits are unavoidable because we refuse to tax people at a rate commensurate with the benefits they receive from government.

Alex Jones being forced to spread his noxious messaging from a street corner will be music to my ears.

This fucker has been attacking 9/11 victims, Sandy Hook families, and others for over a decade. He’s ruined marriages by engaging in targeted harassment, and the media outlets did nothing but enable this fucker for too long.

Now that they’re finally cracking down and enforcing the TOS, the right wing extremists who fed off Jones are going nuts? Fuck them too - they’re the problem. They spread the noxious conspiracy theories and engaged in harassment themselves.

No media platform is required to give these fuckers a platform, not when they violate the TOS for those platforms. The problem is that they waited as long as they did to enforce the TOS.

This is something that should have been done ages ago.

i see alex jones on 34th street at 6th avenue with his 2 watt PA system sitting on a luggagae cart. holding a cardboard sign as he raves…

Of course, but back then it did. Miller was nothing like mainstream Conservatives even in High School. It’s just that Conservatives call themselves “Libertarian” now, and fascists call themselves “Conservative”.

So many people love it. I will definitely try it again based on what I’ve heard. Caught bits of the first couple eps when it first came out but it never stuck. I really was only half watching tho.

and we have been taught that Fascism and White Supremacism are just points on the accepted political spectrum instead of seeing them as anathema to American values and the things that Americans have fought and died tried to prevent.

re: #585 Belafon

I think he’s playing on the general rule that, from what I understand, in cases where the law is after the big dog, the earlier you cooperate, the better it is for you.

I remember Avenatti pushing this ‘release everything publicly’ line about Cohen when they decided to leak the one tape. It seemed like he was advocating something other than cooperating. I was kinda confused then too.

Yep, and it’s horrifying! I do think we’ll stop these fuckers, rather than becoming another Russia, menacing the West.

Here’s how the Right will counter any attempt to explain why the policy targeting legal immigrants is wrong: Anchor Babies! And when you explain to them what the Russians are doing at Trump locations, they’ll counter with “but white!”

Alex Jones has got to be losing what’s left of his mind right about now.

In a statement to Media Matters, MailChimp confirmed it has removed the accounts for Infowars, citing “hateful content”:

MailChimp doesn’t generally comment on individual users or accounts, but we’ll make an exception today. MailChimp notified Infowars that their accounts have been terminated for violating our Terms of Service, which make it clear that we don’t allow people to use our platform to disseminate hateful content.

We take our responsibility to our customers and employees seriously. The decision to terminate this account was thoughtfully considered and is in line with our company’s values.

After Stitcher, Apple, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube all removed Alex Jones and Infowars, Alex Jones aired a shot of a document during a live stream showing that MailChimp removed him “effective immediately” because his account “is in violation of our Terms of Use.”

The cops showed up to my house, armed with assault weapons. Someone read my suicidal tweets in the next county over and thought I was some dude named Adam Crane in Ohio who was going to kill his wife. Today I learned people actually read my tweets.
