“spread out the documents”? When I was on a federal (civil) jury last October, one of the court’s clerks squeezed a dumb, very dumb machine attached to a 42 inch screen that would go through the documents electronically into the jury room. Did they not do this here? That’s not how they showed them in court, there’s been plenty of description of the jury looking at the monitors before them in the jury box. I’m hoping the jury didn’t get all of the (paper) exhibits; if so, it’s gonna be a while.

ETA I HATED THAT MACHINE. It was hard to control.

Personally, I’d see a generic device with generic cartridges that can be used for intramuscular or subcutaneous delivery of a given amount of an active substance, rather than one device per drug and manufacturer.

That would make tremendous sense.

One of the huge costs around insulin injectors, epipens, and even IVF drug therapies is that they each have unique delivery devices, which are all injectors that all push a prescribed amount of medication.

It’s well past time to get that out of the equation, especially since most of those medications are otherwise generics.

Well, you have the trigger mechanism with mollyguard and safety (device can only be triggered when pressed onto the skin), then you have the cartridge which could easily be a standard size syringe and needle, and the rest of the parameters you can control with needle length (how deep the drug is delivered) and type (IM and SC) as well as diluting the substance with saline if necessary and user instructions.
There is no reason one couldn’t build a device which takes standard pre-packaged syringes, the only thing would be that such a device would be a bit bulkier.

I can just imagine all the patriots in the INTEL and FBI communities who choose country over party, watching all this going on, much of them seeing the stuff only Mueller’s team knows about.

Takes little effort to think about Christopher Steele and Peter Strzok seeing evidence of mass criminality and not getting mad about it.

At some point the burn rate of firing political targets will be less than the rate of incensed patriots still holding their smaller levers of power and taking a stand against the Orange Menace and his GOP Flying Monkeys. I have hope.

For a lot of people, it would mean accepting that great-grandpappy went out to kill people so that rich people could own black people. That kind of explains a lot of ‘Lost Cause’ believers in the South. What I find difficult to grasp is the number of such people in states like Indiana that fought on the Union side, and were some of the very people Southern great-grandpappys went out to kill so that rich people could own black people. You’d think pride in their own heritage might make them willing to accept the truth.

There’s a reason revisionist history is a thing.

We’ve got agitprop specialists like Dinesh and Newt pumping out BS incessantly.

They’re both the latest in a long lines of revisionists who romanticize the confederacy and what it stood for and why the war was fought.

After all, these are the same folks who claimed this was the war of northern aggression (when it was the South that fired the first shots, and issued articles of secession that specifically mentioned slavery as the rationale). These are the same folks who say we should honor the generals and confederate leaders - ignoring that they were the ones who fought for preserving slavery and whose actions led to the deaths of 600,000 people.

If anything, the reconciliation after the end of the war was insufficient in dealing with the truth of slavery and enabled this revisionist history to take hold.

Well, the “Lost Cause” lot were pushing the “revisionist” interpretation basically since right after Appomattox: so there’s a historical continuity there…..
But unfortunately, that “truth about slavery” was always the sticking-point for post-Civil War reconciliation: and in the end, racism won out.
Given the choice between having to accept and allow that people of African descent were full citizens and entitled to the all the rights and respect of any other “citizen” - and the convenience of maintaining black folks as the Official Designated Inferior Underclass - which distinction was* considered the fundamental glue holding (white) society together - the (white) power structure took the “easy” choice.

* and still is, to a disgracefully large extent

Trump now wants Session’s to arrest Omorosa…

One former Trump White House official said that Trump’s fury at Omarosa was setting him on a “death spiral” similar to the one that engulfed his campaign in the summer of 2016 when he attacked a Gold Star father who was critical of his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States.

Ok.

The truth is that Lee headed the army of Southern secession and insurrectionists against the Union. He fought to preserve the institution of slavery. He chose his side. Now you lie to claim otherwise.

Virgina-born Union general George “The Rock of Chiackamauga” Thomas:

[T]he greatest efforts made by the defeated insurgents since the close of the war have been to promulgate the idea that the cause of liberty, justice, humanity, equality, and all the calendar of the virtues of freedom, suffered violence and wrong when the effort for southern independence failed. This is, of course, intended as a species of political cant, whereby the crime of treason might be covered with a counterfeit varnish of patriotism, so that the precipitators of the rebellion might go down in history hand in hand with the defenders of the government, thus wiping out with their own hands their own stains; a species of self-forgiveness amazing in its effrontery, when it is considered that life and property—justly forfeited by the laws of the country, of war, and of nations, through the magnanimity of the government and people—was not exacted from them.
Report to General Ulysses S. Grant (17 November 1868)

I saw a poll today which put public support for Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation between that seen for Harriet Miers and Robert Bork.

I’m curious exactly why that is, but I have a couple ideas.

1) Gorsuch was nominated and confirmed while Trump was still new, and while people had some illusion that he might turn out to be a better President than he has. Now, nobody has any such illusion. It’s been about a year since anyone unironically said, “Tonight, Donald Trump became President”.

2) Gorsuch replaced Scalia, so it was pretty much a wash. Kavanaugh would be replacing the more moderate Kennedy, and would thus shift the Court significantly to the right.

Which leads me to …

3) As long as Kennedy is there, the fear that Roe v Wade would be overturned is minimal. With Kavanaugh? The Right is practically salivating. And women, noting what they’ve already lost under Trump, are much more concerned now than in early 2017.

1) The press doesn’t deserve the shit they are getting from Trump about being enemies of the people.

2) The US political press does deserve criticism for mostly failing in their 4th estate responsibilities for decades.

Edited to add: 3) The uselessness of the US political press is mostly because ownership mostly has the reporters on short leashes and the range of acceptable opinions is mostly limited to what owners want to see.
