Wild. NYT reports Don McGahn and his lawyer grew suspicious of Trump, thinking Trump wanted him to be the fall guy in the Russia probe. McGahn didn’t want to be the next John Dean. So he fully cooperated, thinking it was the only way to protect himself. nytimes.com

2:30 PM - Aug 18, 2018

McGahn’s suspicions are right. If you feel like you are being set up by Trump you probably are.

I wonder what all he had to share with Mueller?

Donny not gonna be happy.

(Actually, Philips is the only brand I’ve had that problem with.)

Martin Longman talks about the people at the DT rallies, and how they seem so happy to hate together, so joyful. He says it’s because they are happy to find a group of others who think the way they do, and remembers how it used to feel, on a Grateful Dead tour.

He was moved to write this because Alex Wagner wrote a piece about “The Church of Trump.” Ugh.

I’ve long thought that a lot of these “Yuuge” crowds at tRump rallies (that pictures are very carefully composed to simulate) are going from rally to rally like Deadheads, but you raise the question: Are some of them being bussed around by these churches? They’ve got the busses, they’ve got the money, and they’ve got the mindless cattle.

Trixie update…

We just got back from the animal hospital. What we thought happened to Trixie isn’t what happened.

We thought that there was a fight between Trixie and another cat, but when the opthamologist came in for a consult, the first thing she said was ‘That other cat must have been driving a car.’

Trixie suffered what looks like a crushing injury from something falling on her. When we got home we looked in our basement storage, and there was a box of old bills on the floor, that had fallen off a shelf.

They’re going to keep her in the hospital for the rest of the weekend, and they’ll be performing a scan to see the extent of the bone damage. She will lose the eye, due to feline nervous systems being set up that if the eye stayed in it could cause infection or even cancer.

Our poor kitty is resting comfortably, and she responded well when we went in to see her. It just tears me up to see her in such bad shape. I’m hoping hard that everything goes well and that she’ll be back home soon.

A couple of years ago, our two-doors down neighbors moved and left their cat, who adopted us. She had only one eye, surgically closed, was spayed, and has been a wonderful overlordess. She’s a brown/grey/black Mack tabby with white gloves on the front and white knee-highs on the back. Her name, of course, became “Socket”.

I would respectfully suggest that everyone should count their blessings when something bad happens. You still have a companion. She’s going to be OK and she will love you for taking care of her. And I’m very sorry this happened to you, but it could have been so much worse.

Cuomo is learning the wrong lesson, I think.

The point is to not walk back, but instead change peoples’ minds.

In today’s America, walking back comments makes one look “weak”. Which is why Trump never does it, but just charges ahead.

Anyway, Cuomo is the wrong guy for 2020. We need to break away from dynastic thinking.

Hopefully after the elections republicans will be somewhat saner?

We are at the point where we cannot save ourselves.

The Rest of the world has to do it by ceasing to buy Treasury securities that finance the debt. They have to dump the dollar as the reserve currency and then impose economic sanctions and isolation.

When Republicans can’t borrow any money the government will go insolvent and that may finally bring the mobs out armed with pitchforks and torches against Republicans.

Harlem Globetrotter Meadowlark Lemon dead at 83

Former Harlem Globetrotter and prolific entertainer of the masses Meadowlark Lemon has died at the age of 83.

His death was confirmed by his wife, Dr. Cynthia Lemon, to the New York Times.

Globetrotters spokesman Brett Meister told the Associate Press Lemon’s wife and daughter confirmed to the team that he died Sunday in Scottsdale, Ariz. Meister did not know the cause of death.

The “Clown Prince” was known for his incredible tricks, on-court charisma and comedic antics, and his sensational ability to entertain audiences as part of the touring Harlem Globetrotters basketball team for nearly 25 years, starting in 1955, years after serving in the Army.

ETA: another zombie news story. Mr. Lemon has apparently been dead since 2015.

two thoughts:

first, apologies. sometimes i forget my audience

second, absolutely nothing wrong with “i ran my bike into a tree”
as long as that’s not what happened

ie - slipped on a bar of soap should definitely be turned into “i ran my bike into a tree while being chased by an angry bear”

Just now there was a minor dog fight right outside of said window. Probably lost her for a week. Oh dear.

MrBWS says right now it doesn’t look like any imminent danger.
The fronds are dry, so don’t conduct, and they are on only one conductor wire, so nothing is going to happen.
But go ahead and alert the power company that there is debris on the lines.

Thanks, good to know. I’m shamelessly extra careful about fire in our dry windy wildfire season. Not so much in the modern era but at the same time of year as wildfires we used to get tenement fires.

MrBWS says you should always take stuff hanging on the lines seriously and report them, even when there appears to be no imminent danger.

Always great to have expert backup. :-) You might recall the wildfire that almost took out the shooting range I have an interest in last December? I have a file of numerous photographs I took that show power lines actually rubbing through tree limbs on Little Tujunga Canyon road from the days after the fire. Totally busted these guys for lack of maintenance. I hope the images help make the case about cavalier approaches to maintenance. If I get really lucky the images will be saleable, daddy needs a new 4k video camera.

She doesn’t eat tuna. Seriously I left a couple of tins with remnants several times & I come back & it’s just dried up.

She’s a strange cat.

No tuna, no boxes.

Her past life sucked. But she’ll be fine.

Call this anecdotal or whatever. But do notice where empathy lives. By coincidence I’m fighting the good fight on FB. And I posted the case of the pregnant lady and her husband being arrested by ICE at the worst possible time. The first two responses I got were “Cry me a river” and then “I’ll settle for a creek”. Two very red hat Trump conservative guys.

JFC riding a lightning bolt these “Christian” guys got no Love Thy Neighbor at all. Not a freaking drop.

One little browser tab over and it’s all how to take care of our stressed or injured cats day. Empathy. Some no haz it.

Beware this link. Yes I confess to literally doing this all day long. Because that fight I can fight All Day Long.
