It’s really good to be past the worry of whether one or more wingnuts would let Manafort skate, damaging the Mueller investigation at least in the public eye.

I’m actually glad I forgot about the trial once the jury went into deliberations. It made today a REALLY FUCKING AWESOME day.

re: #8 Shiplord Kirel, Friend of Moose and Squirrel

I’d hate to be the fire-control officer (or any sailor, really) stationed in Jupiter’s mainmast crows-nest: the sooty blast from the funnels couldn’t have been much fun to deal with.

I read somewhere in a book on the Dreadnought era that the British designed and built a couple that had the main (forward) fire-control cabin up the foremast - right behind the funnel. They got the usual (negative) feedback from the sea people, changed the design to have the mast forward of the funnel: but still built a few more to the old pattern anyway.

The French seem to had the right idea from the get-go…

Some unhinged rightwingers now threatening Second Amendment solutions if their man Trump goes down. Here is one example from Free Republic:

The ballot box will no longer be a viable option.

The bullet box will be the next option, whether you choose to participate or not.

Another from Facebook:

If punishment is doled out for paying hush money and Hillary gets a free pass on her laundry list of crimes, then, well, the upcoming civil war will sort it all out.

MsJ  Aug 21, 2018 • 6:53:22pm

About Omarosa’s latest video.

It turns out Omarosa’s video wasn’t of Donald Trump, it didn’t incriminate anyone, and it wasn’t even secretly recorded. All it did was show Michael Cohen getting onto Trump’s plane during the campaign and walking around like he owned the place. But this video demonstrated that Cohen was indeed involved with the campaign, and as Omarosa went on to explain, the trip depicted in the video had been put together entirely by Cohen. So why is so important?

Even though Donald Trump instructed Michael Cohen to pay off two women in violation of federal campaign law, Cohen was never officially a campaign official. Trump has already argued to an extent earlier this year, and will certainly try to argue more loudly now, that he can’t have been in violation of campaign law because Cohen wasn’t with the campaign. This video helps demonstrate otherwise, thus weakening Trump’s argument in the court of public opinion.

My understanding is that where it’s legal they still can’t get credit card companies to support them. Incsnt remember why just now.

So they’re dealing in all cash. And the deposits go over the 10k limits a lot. So the banks don’t want to touch them for fears of audits fraud etc

There are federal and state and tax rules involved and many conflict and are not clear.

This is actually rather entertaining.

Rolling off that prosecutors seized 3.2 million documents from Cohen, and that they don’t need a single thing from Cohen at this point.

And then rolls into Manafort.

So, Trump’s new thing is that Manafort worked for Trump, Reagan, and others…

Yeah.

That wasn’t what Manafort was charged with.

No - but getting the bank loan from the man who wanted to get a job in the administration? Just sounds similar to me (it was one of the charges that deadlocked)

Of course the know nothings in my replies who think they’re clever that the Vegas shooter killed himself seem to ignore that the nation did absolutely nothing to prevent another mass shooting.

Deah Shaddy Barakat, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha were all college students with their entire lives ahead of them, until Craig Stephen Hicks shot and killed them in Chapel Hill, NC, in 2015.

Shep Smith is on a roll….

Yeah.

If I’m prosecutors, I’m figuring that they retry him on those remaining charges.

If they want to. After convicting him on eight counts, with another trial already coming up, they probably don’t need to.

If Mueller thinks that they can get something they wouldn’t otherwise be able to from Manafort and all the evidence they’ve collected, it becomes about leverage - another trial that costs Manafort funds he can hardly afford now, or plead out and turn evidence on Trump and everyone else.

Manafort’s options are closing.

But Wait - There’s More!

The New York Law Journal reports that Bronx Supreme Court Justice Fernando Tapia on Tuesday declined to dismiss the suit filed by protesters who claim they were roughed up by the president’s security team back in 2015.

Specifically, Tapia said that Trump himself “authorized and condoned” his security guards to rough up the protesters, and he specifically cited the president’s statement that “maybe they deserved to be roughed up” on the grounds that “it was absolutely disgusting” what the protesters were doing.

In the primary, Hunter only got 47%, but there was about 15% of voters that voted for other Republicans. The Democrat that advanced, Ammar Campa-Najjar, had a poll last month that showed it at 51-42 for Hunter. That’ll probably flip shortly, especially if/when the evening news in San Diego starts showing water color portraits of Hunter in court.

The corollary to the idea that the president can’t be indicted is that a president in serious trouble will have even less of an incentive to do it on his own.

Good question… my gut instinct is that no, he wouldn’t be able to pardon them because it’s not technically a criminal act. But I’m not sure if anyone has tried to pardon someone being held in civil contempt.

Interference in the judicial branch’s jurisdiction, so I don’t think it’s going to go well.

Wow, just saw a preview for a new movie called Searching… one of those thriller/mystery type movies where a father is looking for his daughter. The weird thing is the father is being played by John Cho, as in Harold from Harold and Kumar… I did not realize that I am officially that old.

Don’t forget Cho’s also Sulu in the newer “Kelvinverse” Star Trek movies…

Even if it does happen in, say, next March… we would still needs something like 13-17 Republican Senators to vote to convict.

He’s also the person that, in the American Pie movies. made “MILF” a household word.

Cho’s done a lot of stuff.

That’s #StarringJohnCho FOR REAL.

(That, with CRAZY RICH ASIANS and TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED, is why we’re calling this month #AsianAugust).

Part of me wants to do a screenplay treatment for In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson, one of my absolute favorite books as a kid. But it’s been so long since I read it, I don’t know how well it would hold up. Plus I have like six other idea floating about my head

As a Trekkie, I think they’re alright, with a really good main cast (and Cumberbatch’s Khan, while not chewing the scenery quite like Montalban’s, was also good).

I just wish if they were going to do a true reboot, they wouldn’t have done it as an alternate time line. And what’s the point of Kirk and Khan if nobody is chewing the scenery?

So, I was just looking at the Senate elections and there’s a lot of weird shit going on out there…

Nelson is apparently losing to Rick Scott? McCaskill is in trouble in Missouri (granted, she has been in every election). Mississippi has a special election that has a Democrat leading, but the regular election has the Republican leading? Cruz is in trouble in Texas (insert Nelson Muntz mp3 here). Tennessee may be in play?

What the hell, people? What the actual hell?

The citizens of Florida elected Rick Scott, a man who should have been in prison, twice for governor, knowing his history. They reelected Marco Rubio to the Senate and voted for Trump. Florida has absurd SYG laws and the Florida man has become the symbol of idiocy. The state is retreating into racism. Why should it surprise sane people that Florida would prefer a criminal like Scott to Nelson?

Have hardly had time for myself today. But holy fuck. What a day it’s ended up being. Cohen. Manafort. Hunter. That klan rally Trump had. The “illegal” that killed that girl, being employed for four fucking years by an Iowa Republican. Fox News avoiding everything by showing puppies. I can hardly wait for tomorrow.

Same here.

How sure are we that the fourth stack wasn’t a dummy, like on Titanic?

Very sure. A feature that bizarre would hardly escape the notice of a hundred years’ worth of naval historians and commentators. There would be no reason for naval designers to add that much topweight for the sake of appearance rather than, say, some more guns. The 4 funnels appear in every photo of this ship and its 4 sisters, with smoke from all 4 in many of them.
