In Which Donald Trump Confesses to a Criminal Conspiracy on Fox News

This is the kind of stuff that gives Donald Trump’s attorneys migraine headaches, as he admits openly that he conspired with Michael Cohen to conceal hush money payments during his presidential campaign to the women he was sleeping with.

Remember that Trump originally denied knowing anything at all about these payments.

But to the point of his current lies, the fact that he made the payments himself and they didn’t go through his campaign is the crime. The payments should have been disclosed on his FEC forms, but instead Trump and Cohen conspired to hide them, and cooked up a phony invoice scheme to reimburse Cohen.

But I’m sure Robert Mueller appreciates it when Trump goes on Fox News and stupidly admits to criminal behavior.

Trumpworld’s last remaining way to avoid prison right now is that the DOJ has a policy in place that indicates they should not indict a sitting president because it would undermine the capacity of the Office of the Executive.

The thing is - Trump is undermining the Office of the Executive through his very presence, and his being in that position is due to the crimes for which Trump has already admitted to doing.

Trump admits he broke federal campaign finance laws by hiding the payments, hiding the nature of the payments, and then lying about everything relating to the payments ever since.

Trump admits to lying about the June 2016 meeting with the Russian foreign agents, implicating everyone around him in his inner circle. Everyone in that meeting was engaging in criminal malfeasance and then Trump and his inner circle conspired to keep it secret.

All they have done since is lie, obfuscate, bully, and project like IMAX - Hillary did it first, and that’s a crime, but when I did it it wasn’t a crime.

Yeah, it’s crimes all the way down.

We’re also watching the spinoffs back to state law too start to come into play as the federal crimes have state analogues, so even if Trump moves to pardon his cronies, they’ll still be open to prosecution in the states.

Cohen’s allocution to multiple federal felonies as part of his plea deal shows how much trouble Trump is in on just that one aspect of his corrupt admin.

It’s time for the DOJ to revisit this policy - that when the crimes themselves go to how a person got to occupy the office in the first place, the general rule does not apply.

Question is, since when have there been commercials for Supreme Court nominees?

Because it was an expenditure made on behalf of the campaign. The whole point of the hush money payment was to protect Trump’s election chances; that makes it a campaign expenditure.

The campaign finance law requires that you must report campaign contributions in a timely fashion. You must report if the funds are being used to influence a campaign. Here, Trump made significant payments to McDougal and Daniels for the purpose of influencing the 2016 election outcome but never reported them.

Trump now claims that he personally made the payment, which doesn’t solve his problem - the crime was failing to report the payment in the first place.

Inadvertent errors are not the same as purposefully refusing to report. Obama being late to report within days isn’t the same as Trump being caught lying on his FEC filings (the lie being the omission of these payments).

I’ve only seen one commercial, multiple times, from a woman who says she’s not into politics at all, she’s a teacher, but she’s been friends with him for 35 years and she likes him. Does that mean it’s a college buddy? Who knows nothing about lawyering or judging and is in no position to opine on his actual qualifications for the job?

Yep, it was a self made Catch 22 trap. He wanted to keep something secret to help the campaign which couldn’t legally be kept secret forever because it was 100% designed to help the campaign. Technically the campaign did not need to write the check to Stormy Daniels but Trump would have needed to declare the payment as a contribution to the FEC, which he deliberately didn’t do.

And it all unraveled because Trump refused to even sign the NDA, thinking that would further insulate him via plausible deniability. Instead it gave Daniel’s the grounds to challenge the NDA as void ab initio, which led to the discovery of Cohen’s correspondence, which led to the story blowing up, which led to Cohen declaring that he did this on his own with no input from Trump, which led to the SDNY search warrant on Cohen’s home and offices because it then looked like an illegal campaign contribution from Cohen, which inexplicably led to Team Trump releasing the taped conversation proving Trump did know about the Karen McDougal / AMI deal and was trying to buy the rights to her story, which led to where we are now with Cohen confessing that Trump ordered everything.

If Mr. Cohen has this great dirt, why hasn’t Mr. Mueller already locked him in with a cooperation agreement? Mr. Mueller is a cautious man; Mr. Cohen, manifestly, is not. If the special counsel enlisted Mr. Cohen formally, that agreement would come with all of his credibility problems and tendency to act impetuously. Now Mr. Cohen’s plea has thoroughly rattled the administration. Mr. Trump and his gaffe-prone lawyer Rudy Giuliani react badly to pressure and will likely respond with incriminating statements. That’s a dumb policy. If a president commits a crime, he/she should be indicted and tried like any other citizen. Otherwise, you will end up with a criminal running the country. Democrats need to work on this issue and change DOJ’s policy.

Yep, it was a self made Catch 22 trap. He wanted to keep something secret to help the campaign which couldn’t legally be kept secret forever because it was 100% designed to help the campaign. Technically the campaign did not need to write the check to Stormy Daniels but Trump would have needed to declare the payment as a contribution to the FEC, which he deliberately didn’t do.

And it all unraveled because Trump refused to even sign the NDA, thinking that would further insulate him via plausible deniability. Instead it gave Daniel’s the grounds to challenge the NDA as void ab initio, which led to the discovery of Cohen’s correspondence, which led to the story blowing up, which led to Cohen declaring that he did this on his own with no input from Trump, which led to the SDNY search warrant on Cohen’s home and offices because it then looked like an illegal campaign contribution from Cohen, which inexplicably led to Team Trump releasing the taped conversation proving Trump did know about the Karen McDougal / AMI deal and was trying to buy the rights to her story, which led to where we are now with Cohen confessing that Trump ordered everything.

To be fair innocent people plead guilty to stuff all the time. When you are looking down the barrel of a life sentence and a prosecutors says if you plead to these charges we will recommend 5 years, even innocent people will sometimes take the time over rolling the dice.

In this case though, I am pretty sure Cohen is guilty as hell.

Well, what it is, is that Nature doesn’t provide life in the hard-and-fast categories that people insist on. I used to argue Evolution with a friend I’d describe as a Sophist. He was a smart guy, widely read, but absolutely committed to Creationism.

When I described how Homo erectus (IIRC) skulls gradually enlarge from the earliest with chimp-sized brain cases to the last with brain cases a the very low end or Homo sapiens range, he insisted that, if I were correct, then at some point two parents who were NOT HUMAN gave birth to a HUMAN child. And he insisted I identify that point.

He could only see it as discrete categories. Something either IS human or it’s NOT.

I was involved in one of these violent bystander incidents when I was a deputy sheriff in the 70s. A low life had gotten past a secure door in a retirement community and assaulted his girlfriend, who was employed there. I threw him down and was trying to cuff him when a friend of the girlfriend ran up and kicked him in the face, breaking his nose and splattering blood on the floor. The suspect later swore up and down that I had kicked him while he was down and cuffed. Fortunately there were plenty of witnesses and the friend freely admitted kicking the guy (she was “trying to help”) so I was off the hook. What if the vigilante had disappeared and nobody else had been around?

I’m the Production Mentor for a classical music festival, have been for over twenty years. It’s an orchestra boot camp. Four symphonic shows plus chamber music on other nights. 16 concerts in 14 days.

I love to see kids get into the arts. But if you want to be a classical musician as a career, don’t choose a popular instrument. Winds? Learn the bassoon. Strings? Viola or double bass. Horns? Trombone.

(Even if it’s sad!)

Your chances will be SO much better.

And apparently, from the about 1 minute I forced myself to watch Hannity during a Rachel commercial break, that’s the hill they’re going to die on. Gregg Jarrett, Sara Carter and, of course, the greatest legal mind around today, Hannity, went on about how Cohen confessed to things that weren’t crimes (hey, Greggy talked to some very high up, knowledgeable legal ace, who will, of course, remain nameless) and that’s the deal.
