It also means Rudy doesn’t have any control over the Mueller proceedings and Mueller is letting him know it by not letting him know anything.

re: #107 BogeyMon

Greetings and Salutations!
Long time lurker, since before the great schism, remembering Mandy Manners and FBV. It feels strange commenting, I’ve never been part of an online community, but I feel like I know you all…

I really just joined to kick into the pot, Mr. Johnson maintains an incredible site, I’ve spent countless hours reading your comments, learning, jamming to some great tunes and blowing snot on a keyboard laughing, Thanks!

Craft beers on the table to the right, single malt scotch on the table in the middle, coffee and VB’s virtual pies on the left… I’ll be over in the corner sweeping up eggshells…

Teleski - be cool, its a marathon, not a sprint

Anymouse - hope the power is back on

William Lewis - I think we have frozen our asses off in some of the same places, B-1-13 AR, Illesheim, ‘82 - ‘82

CL - rest, you are missed

Hi! Thanks for the shout out … I still am only running on four plug sockets … the electrician did not come today. He had to take care of an emergency at a ranch forty miles from here or so.

I was never really part of an on-line commenting community either until I came here. (Wonkette doesn’t count because they don’t allow comments.)

If you were lurking here during those days with commentators such as Mandy Manners (I’ve gone back and read some of the very old posts here), you’ve been reading much longer than I have. (I only became aware of the site when I came across a Huffington Post article on Mr. Johnson’s break with the right.)

Whelp, things are getting kinky around my part of the High Plains.

Woman, man jailed on charges after having sex in the middle of a Terrytown street (Goes to the Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald. Terrytown is sandwiched between Scottsbluff and Gering. More at the link.)

SCOTTSBLUFF — A Northglenn, Colorado, woman will serve 90 days in jail after being caught having sex in a public place.

Court documents say Danielle East, 41, was sentenced to 90 days in jail, with credit for three days served, on a charge of public indecency, a Class II misdemeanor, Monday. She was also fined $500 on the charge and $250 on a second charge of theft by receiving stolen property, a Class II misdemeanor.

A 46-year-old Scottsbluff man, San Juan Hernandez also faces charges of driving under the influence (blood alcohol content over .15), a Class I misdemeanor; driving under suspension, a Class III misdemeanor; public indecency, a Class II misdemeanor; and theft by receiving stolen property, a Class II misdemeanor, in the same incident. He is being held on a $25,000 bond and is next scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 31.

More Republicans caught registering dead people to vote.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Seven people who are considered dead by the state of Alaska asked for absentee ballots for a hotly contested state House race in last week’s primary election. Two others told election officials they didn’t vote, even though state had absentee ballots in their names.

The seven applications requesting ballots in the names of dead people were rejected, and no ballots were sent out.

Those were among the irregularities involving House District 15 in Anchorage, where three votes separate the two candidates.

Aaron Weaver holds a narrow lead over fellow Republican Rep. Gabrielle LeDoux, who was targeted by the state GOP as a turncoat for caucusing with the Democrats.

There are 252 counties in Texas. Beto has hit them all, including Loving county, which has a population of 134 people. There are 73 counties in Texas with less than 10,000 people in them. He has done town halls in the County Seats of each and every one, and I guarantee that the populations of each of these counties were front-loaded to hate him.

Person by person, vote by vote, he is turning the tide against Ted Cruz, who, at some point, sold himself to Satan and become Faust.

It’s the only explanation for the politician he has become, a Drumpf cock-sucking succubus.

Rand Paul: Vaccines Can Lead to ‘Mental Disorders’

Republican Sen. Rand Paul is standing by his statement that most vaccinations should be “voluntary,” telling CNBC that a parent’s choice not to vaccinate a child is “an issue of freedom.”

In an interview with the network Monday, Paul said that vaccines are “a good thing” but that parents “should have some input” into whether or not their children must get them.

And he gave credence to the idea - disputed by the majority of the scientific community - that vaccination can lead to mental disabilities.

“I have heard of many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines,” he said.

I went and read the article referenced below - it would appear the Socialist Workers Party (they are Trotskyites who were expelled from the CPUSA in 1928 for failure to support Stalin) is backing Trump’s claims of supporting the working class.

After 1928 they then used Trotsky’s suggestion called the “French Turn” to join then subvert social democratic parties and take them from within, joining the US Socialist Party. They were expelled in 1936.

Now they seem to be supporting Trump over the Democrats, even using his terminology of a “witch hunt” to describe the investigations into his campaign.

When the Dutch settled at the Cape there were black people there, hunter-gatherers related to the Kalahari Bushmen—the so-called “Hottentots”, later called “Cape Coloured”. Bantu-speaking people were just then entering what is now South Africa from the Northeast, having been held up for a solid thousand years by the tsetse fly line of the Zambezi. I’m pretty sure that’s what she means.

The Boers and the Bantu didn’t really encounter each other until the Great Trek.

I am terribly sorry to hear that.

Antivaxxer parents might be uninformed or misinformed. Those who know better, like Rand Paul or Andrew Wakefield are the real guilty parties, trying to undermine medical science for fun and profit.

I came down with mumps in 2012. Fever shot up to 105 for three days, bits were swollen up like oranges for two weeks. The VA said “oh hell no you aren’t coming here, we’ll send a nurse out to your house to check up on you.”

I was exposed to mumps by 4-H Christmas carolers at my house; one of the mothers was an antivaxxer and her daughter passed the disease on to me.

I had mumps when I was two (documented), but in a small number of cases you can get the disease again (as I found out). Mumps in adults can be fatal.

Huffington Post:

Virginia GOP Tries To Link Democratic Candidate To White Supremacists (more at the link)

The Republican Party of Virginia is linking a Democratic congressional candidate to the 2017 white supremacist demonstration in Charlottesville, accusing her of anti-Semitism for a book she published that is critical of the U.S.-Israel relationship.

In a series of broadsides, including a press release and a mailer obtained by The Washington Post’s Dave Weigel, the Virginia Republican Party accuses Democratic candidate Leslie Cockburn and her 1991 book, Dangerous Liaison: The Inside Story of the U.S.-Israel Covert Relationship, of fueling anti-Semitism. She co-wrote the book with her husband, Andrew Cockburn.

“Racists in Charlottesville chanted, ‘Jews will not replace us,’” the mailer reads. “Leslie Cockburn’s book adds fuel to the fire.” Charlottesville is in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, which she is squaring off against local businessman Denver Riggleman to represent.

and

The Virginia GOP did not respond to a request for comment.

The state Republican Party previously compiled a list of citations of Cockburn’s book on Stormfront, a racist and anti-Semitic message board, but a number of Jewish leaders in Charlottesville have publicly rejected claims that the book is anti-Semitic.

Good to know the Virginia GOP is hanging around the halls of Stormfront.

ICE Handcuffs Immigrant Kids on Their 18th Birthdays, Drags Them to Jail (Miami New Times, more at the link).

This is against the law. That said, ICE is ignoring the law. (The law concerning this is in the article)

When one of his abusive mother’s gangbanger friends held a gun to his chest and threatened to pull the trigger, Nolbiz Orellana knew he’d die in Honduras. So this past January, the then-17-year-old made the harrowing journey to the U.S.-Mexico border, crossed over, and asked for asylum.

Instead of releasing him to his relatives in Nebraska, though, the feds sent him to the Homestead Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Children. Orellana spent three months in the remote South Miami-Dade facility until April 8 — his birthday.

That’s when Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents showed up at the children’s shelter, slapped handcuffs on Orellana’s wrists, chained them to his waist, and shackled his legs together. The agents drove Orellana to the Broward Transitional Center, an infamous immigration jail in Pompano Beach, where he was thrown into a cell with men twice his age.

Orellana’s saga isn’t just shocking — it’s also illegal, say Miami immigration attorneys who have succeeded in forcing ICE to release several other 18-year-olds in recent months. Even worse, they say what happened to the Honduran refugee seems to have become ICE’s national policy.

“When they turn 18, it’s basically, ‘Happy birthday,’ and then they slap on handcuffs and take them off to adult detention centers,” says Lisa Lehner, an attorney with the nonprofit Americans for Immigrant Justice who is representing Orellana.

It also means Rudy doesn’t have any control over the Mueller proceedings and Mueller is letting him know it by not letting him know anything.

Mueller has every interest in playing his cards as close to his chest as possible. Any partial information or leaks will be turned against him.

And he knows that Trump cannot open his mouth under oath without contradicting himself or contradicting other sworn testimony.

I went and read the article referenced below - it would appear the Socialist Workers Party (they are Trotskyites who were expelled from the CPUSA in 1928 for failure to support Stalin) is backing Trump’s claims of supporting the working class.

I sometimes visit a site called moonofalabama.org, which is so terribly left that they are coming out as Trump supporters because they hate Hillary and Obama even more than most Republicans.

It is already full of Putinversteher who also do not see anything wrong with Vlad and Donald’s intimate relationship or their policies.

“I don’t know why they are looking into me since I’m not the one who fabricated the letter,” Navarro said Monday. He said he has not had contact with the person who sent him the letter since December.

Navarro has not deleted the tweet from his account and it continues to be retweeted, totaling more than 800 times as of this week.

He reacted online to the FBI meeting Monday, tweeting, “Let’s get this straight I tweet a letter which says Maxine Waters wants to bring 41,000 Somali refugees. I only tweet according to this document asking a question. Now the FBI is on me for her complaint. She threatens the president and his supporters and no investigation on her.”

And why exactly should we be complaining that Mueller’s taking the same approach that took down Capone.

Prosecutors couldn’t nail him for the murders, assaults, and running a mafia empire directly, so they went with tax fraud.

Prison is prison once you’re convicted.

And right now, Mueller’s systematically working up the food chain in Trumpworld, and has already nailed two of Trump’s campaign managers (and there’s word that Manafort might be looking to cut a deal ahead of his second of two scheduled trials). Trump’s first NSA and transition chair entered a plea deal. Papadopoulos cut a deal too.

The indictments against Russian hackers are on the books. The evidence continues growing that Trump and his cronies worked and were complicit with Russians in coordinating activities.

Heck, even Roger Stone thinks he’s due to be indicted shortly.

That means two of Trump’s closest long time buddies are indicted and/or convicted.

Oh, and then there’s Trump’s personal lawyer who entered a guilty plea and will see prison time too.

Everyone in Trumpworld is compromised and complicit. The questions are just which crimes did they engage in and how much evidence Mueller can use to convict or force plea deals.

Yes, and a lot of Democratic voters were not inspired by her, and lots of other idealists insisted that there was “no difference” between the two.

I hope to see Democrats inspired and aware that there are big differences between Democrats and Republicans

Watch the primaries. We had more primary voters here in Va despite the fact that the Pubbies were nominating a Senator.

Your political luck only lasts for so long. Obama won by a much bigger amount than Trump did and still had a bad year in 2010. Trump’s 2018 will be just as bad if not worse and his 2020 should he make it that far will be a nail in his grave.

I think what Dershowitz is doing here is trying to pad his Trump-booster resumé by attempting to gin up outrage among the base-bots that their idol, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!1!1! is being investigated like some common criminal, and mainly as a “political” vendetta.
He’s probably figuring (and, disgracefully, likely correctly) that the red-MAGA-hat crowd aren’t going to give two farts in the wind how shady, dishonest, or compromised Donald Trump might be: they’ve been convinced/convinced themselves that Trump’s “business success” proves him some sort of “genius”; and that rather than admit they’ve voted for an incompetent charlatan as President, will simply double down on their support.

True: but from most polling I’ve seen, he’ll have a closer-than-usual race this year, but is still likely to be returned to Congress: his district is mainly agricultural, and Nunes’ big attraction is that he can use his position as “Trump’s waterboy” (literally) to lever more water allocations to the farmowners who are his support base (all they mainly care about) and, as a loyal GOPer, possibly get them tariff relief on their (now-curtailed) exports.

Disagree: I think it’s the other way round: Netanyahu is a much smarter politician than most of the Pulpit Pimp crowd (low bar to hurdle, I know), and has figured out that the more Israeli policies erode their Jewish support base in this country, the more he should cultivate the RW “Xtians” - despite (or ignoring) their crank theology/Apocalypse fantasies.

This is not a distraction. This issue is turning solid republicans against trump and the GOP. This is a BFD the way trump treated a veteran, a war hero and a man who served America for decades.

We can multitask our outrage. But this helps with the very big picture, which right now is killing the midterms.

i think it’s also a stunning image to everyone of the man demonstrating that he cannot rise above his ‘self’ and ever act as the President of the entire country, all the people - even for something as non-controversial as a proclamation

My guess is just that he has no actual moral center and wants to retain what power he has.

That’s the case with a lot of these guys that people speculate about being “Russian assets” and motivated by kompromat. They’re just trying to maintain their own little patch of venality and will say, do, align with anything to do it.

They don’t need to be flipped or leveraged; they’re chasing money and power and don’t discriminate. They don’t care about Russia or Putin, they’d pander to anyone with a giant bank balance and frequently do.

‘We don’t have any fear’: India’s angry young men and its lynch mob crisis

Kumar said that as a boy, he was shy. But after joining the Hindu nationalist movement, he said, “I have a strange sense of confidence now. The group has taught us what is right, what we need to do for society.”

Before long, he said, he was out on the streets chasing down and threatening interfaith couples, conducting the moral policing he feels is necessary because Muslim men allegedly seduce girls “as young as 14.” The Hindu activists call it “love jihad.”

Kumar said he also prowls the streets at night, searching for cattle traders who might be illegally smuggling cows for slaughter. Recently, he said, he and five others stopped a truck transporting cows and beat the Muslim driver, who pleaded for his life. The man was saved only by the arrival of the police, Kumar said.

“I was raging,” Kumar said. “If I had a pistol, I would have killed him.”

Now Tulsi Gabbard should be pushed on her inability to condemn her Hindutva allies for rising Hindu extremism, and Bernie Sanders should disavow her already.

I believe a tourist boycott of India is necessary.

My one friend many years ago was cutting up habanero peppers when his wife came home. They were getting a little frisky and he started to get a little finger play in and it all turned a hell of a lot hotter than intended.

Let’s say sexy times ended right then and didn’t pick up again for days after she finally cooled off from that little experience.

He never wanted to hear that story repeated ever again.

our solution for pre-existing conditions is not to cover them

The bill requires insurers to provide coverage to people with pre-existing conditions and prohibits insurers on the individual market (but not the small group market) from charging those people higher premiums

AND THEN

insurers could exclude coverage of the services associated with pre-existing conditions.

Gut environmental protections for coal mine emissions: result more dead people downstream.
Gut environmental air quality regulations: result more dead people downwind
Gut health care coverage for millions: result more dead people.

There’s more dead people piling up due to Trump/GOP actions than an M Night Shyamalan movie.

And that’s even before we deal with the body count from his failures in Puerto Rico and USVI.

The UK government is totally broken. I think Westminster systems work better than the US model, but here’s a big fat counterexample. Both May and Corbyn are, uh, not geniuses, fixed in outdated worldviews, and consumed by internal party battles while the country heads off a cliff at 80 miles an hour.

It seems now the only real way out is the House of Lords, who are the only ones who have shown any balls in any of this. The UK is going to be looking into the abyss at the end of the year, there is no real hope of any agreement with the EU, and the Lords may be the only ones with enough political insulation to pull the plug on this whole benighted affair.

Let him. I can think of a few more conservative voters here in Texas that will actually be disgusted by that.

He is having one this week. I don’t see that he’s got one scheduled on the day of the funeral so I have been mis-informed. Sorry.

Bummer.

There’s a reason a number of Republican governors chose to lower the flags before Trump, including Abbott: Veterans.

[ adding he had “clear instruction” from President EPN about this.]

And Trump is trying to get it through before President AMLO is sworn in.

From what I remember of Graham, he will do whatever it takes to get reelected.

Yea, its entirely possible that all Trump has on Graham is Graham’s own voters.
