In Which Donald Trump Attacks Jeff Sessions for Indicting Two Republicans Before Mid-Term Elections

Politics • Views: 32,694

I keep going back and reading this tweet again, because it really does seem like another big step toward the MAGAuthoritarian hellscape we seem powerless to avert. Here we see the president of the US attacking his own Attorney General because he didn’t cover up Republican crimes to help them get elected.

This is what he’s ranting about:

While the Hunter indictments stem from the “Obama era,” Chris Collins was indicted for insider trading that happened in 2017. Solidly in Trump’s administration, not Obama’s.

But apart from the usual Trumpian distortions of fact, the attitude behind this tweet is the really disturbing part, revealing once again that the guy in charge of the US does not understand (or worse, consciously rejects) the concept of “rule of law,” but rather expects the Department of Justice to be loyal only to him, to do his bidding and protect him.

This isn’t partisan; he’s upset because on some level, he understands that if Republicans lose control of the House in November he’s very likely to be in YUGE trouble. It’s always about Donald.

Even if the investigations began in Obama’s administration. So the fuck what. But hey drain the swamp// unless they’re Congressmen who kiss my orange ass. Man I hate this asshole. I want him not only in jail but I want him and his family to suffer seriously because of the damage he’s done to this country.

If Obama talked anywhere near Trump does. You wouldn’t know who the fuck he was or he’d be a low level Dem somewhere. Trump gets away with the crap he does because he’s a white Republican.

Here’s a tip to the New Yorker and Economist. Stop legitimizing Steve Bannon. He has no respect for you. Why give him what he has never given your publication. Treat him like the bigoted piece of shit he is and keep isolated. He doesn’t offer any insightful commentary. All he is a disgusting bigot who ran a disgusting publication because he’s got a giant stick up his ass about the U.S. being a place for something other than white men such as himself.

Back to the DOJ indictments of Collins and Hunter. There’s a DOJ memo that states in part:

Simply put, politics must play no role in the decisions of federal investigators or prosecutors regarding any investigations or criminal charges. Law enforcement officers and prosecutors may never select the timing of investigative steps or criminal charges for the purpose of affecting any election, or for the purpose of giving an advantage or disadvantage to any candidate or political party. Such a purpose is inconsistent with the Department’s mission and with the Principles of Federal Prosecution.

Trump and his acolytes are going to be abusing this memo claiming that they have to wrap up the prosecutions or that it was purely politically motivated.

The Trump DOJ indicted those right wing extremists for corruption. The Trump DOJ, headed by right winger Sessions and by other Trump nominees, still did their job and managed to indict those two fucknuts. Now, the Trumpworld brigade is going to spew every last breath trying to break the prosecutions claiming that they’re politically motivated, when it is anything but.

I think what it comes down to is that they intend to profit off the controversy, only to realize - belatedly - that 1) the “controversy” is exactly the intent, and 2) there’s no way they can profit from it. The fact that others have made the exact same mistake seems not to deter others from trying.

A song for Labor Day:

The Band - Caves Of Jericho

“The Caves Of Jericho”

They should have known that trouble was brewing
They should have seen what the old men knew
They should have shut us down
When the hail fell to the ground
From a cloudy sky of baby blue

Three o’clock on a cold, cold morning
The big bell wailed as if on cue
A woman’s scream was heard
And the news came afterwards
“It’s a blow out down in Number Two!”

Down in Jericho Kentucky
The mines have all caved in
Down in Jericho
Broken hearts don’t mend
Tear stained eyes of kin
Never ever seen what the future might have been

The hat lamps burned with a flame like lightning
The coal dust blanketed the morning dew
The young ones looked for kin
And the blind man, he looks grim
‘Cause he sees there’s nothing that he can do

They pumped up the mud and they chunked out water
They scratched the earth till it turned to sand
And a half mile down below
It’s a lost cause the miners know
Meet your maker, boys, the time’s at hand

Down in Jericho, Kentucky
The mines have all caved in
Down in Jericho
Broken hearts don’t mend
Tears stained eyes of kin
Never ever seen
What their future might have been

The fire boss’s hands are clean as a whistle
The fat cat knows he’s a company man
But he should have bowed down his head
When they hauled out all the dead
But it’s business, boys, start ‘em up again

Down in Jericho, Kentucky
The mines have all caved in
Down in Jericho.
Broken hearts don’t mend
Tears stained eyes of kin
Never ever seen
What their future might have been

Broken hearts don’t mend
Tears stained eyes of kin
Never ever seen
What their future might have been

So the PhD in history finally decides that Trump’s words are appropriate for a banana republic. Sasse should know the dangers of an autocrat in the Presidency — he should understand that the Russian interference in our election must be stopped — he should understand that that Trump’s reverence for Putin is a serious problem — yet he has done nothing to date to reverse these assaults on our democracy.

So Ben — just a few pretty words and then retreat into silence again? Or are you going to do something? My bet — retreat into silence.

Around 65,000 people have attended a free concert against racism in the eastern German city of Chemnitz.

The town has seen far-right rallies and counter-demonstrations after two migrants were identified as suspects in the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old German man late last month.

Punk and hip hop bands performed on Monday evening under the slogan “there are more of us”, in response to the far-right slogan “we are the people”.

Many people chanted “Nazis out”.

Organisers had to change the venue to accommodate all those who wanted to attend.

Sessions recused himself because he’s directly involved in the Russia-Trump investigation as a potential target.

That’s why Trump rages against the machine. It’s why Trump dumps on Sessions at every turn and tries to interfere in the ongoing investigations.

Sessions does just enough to deflect this, but Sessions hasn’t smacked Trump down either. Nike, Inc. is the world’s largest supplier and manufacturer of athletic shoes, apparel and other sports equipment. The company employed about 74,400 people worldwide in 2017, and their global revenue generated more than 34 billion U.S. dollars. The North American region of Nike generated the largest portion of the company’s revenue that year; over 15 billion U.S. dollars, with the Oregon based company’s athletic footwear segment generated approximately 9.7 billion U.S. dollars of that.

Brett Kavanaugh is a real slimy piece of shit.

I saw where my buddy Robby Portman is going to do an introduction of Kavanaugh.

I wrote Robby earlier and got on him for pushing Kavanaugh on us and throwing the court out of balance…not the intention of the forefathers. Also reminded him of the withholding of some Kavanaugh documents and his seemingly being chosen by Trump to be a presidential protector.

CNN - Kavanaugh to be introduced by Republicans Rob Portman and Condoleezza Rice, liberal Lisa Blatt

Washington (CNN)Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will be introduced by Republican Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and liberal lawyer Lisa Blatt at his Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing next week.

Portman and Rice both worked with Kavanaugh in George W. Bush’s White House.

Blatt, a former clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, wrote an opinion piece in Politico supporting Kavanaugh’s appointment, much the same way that Neal Katyal, who was acting solicitor general under President Barack Obama, supported the nomination of Justice Neil Gorsuch last year.

In her opinion piece earlier this month, titled “I’m a Liberal Feminist Lawyer. Here’s Why Democrats Should Support Judge Kavanaugh,” Blatt called the nominee “supremely qualified” and said that “we all benefit from having smart, qualified and engaged judges on our highest court, regardless of the administration that nominates them.”

The hearing, set to start Sept. 4, is expected to last three or four days, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley previously said.

And despite what I hear said, our vets are acknowledged plenty. The problem is so much of what is said about our vets is lip service by cynical politicians and businessmen while we do nothing to actually address real problems of homelessness, unemployment, drug/alcohol abuse. Pretty much. It was pretty severe in places - I-94 was almost underwater in one stretch between Madison and Eau Claire. I guess the north country had a hell of a lot of rain while I was away in fish country, where it was sunny, humid, and 96+ degrees F (~30 degrees C).

It’s the small things I’m thankful here. Bush isn’t using his prestige to pour gasoline on this fire of an Administration. He’s certainly behind the lack of experienced people in Dump’s Administration. And whatever his flaws, he wasn’t going to destroy everything to create a white ethnostate or bring on the rapture. Remember he did bring up an immigration bill and approved the initial bail-out in 2008. He tamped down the Islamaphobia right after September 11th. There’s plenty bad about his record but compared to Trump, Bush at least could be adequate at times.

While bush used to be compared to 44 other guys, now he’s being compared to 45
And the last guy has buried the bar

in absolute terms bush is just the same bad president as bad as always
Relatively, he got a bit of a boost

The axe throwing thing is a thing.

Hard to believe Myrtle Beach actually said NO.

Myrtle Beach says ‘no’ to axe-throwing facility in downtown

Despite the city’s concerns, these facilities have been growing in popularity across the country since 2016…

Urban Axes in Durham will open later this summer. Business owners said it was always a permitted use and did not face any zoning or planning problems. In Greenville, Craft Axe Throwing is located within the county limits. Greenville County spokesperson Bob Mihalic said the business didn’t “break any zoning regulation”.

Here’s Why Democrats Should Support Judge Kavanaugh,” Blatt called the nominee “supremely qualified” and said that “we all benefit from having smart, qualified and engaged judges on our highest court, regardless of the administration that nominates them.”…

Nothing is less true than that assertion: it is far better to have a judge who is thoughtful and kind than a brilliant ideologue who distorts the law to further a malign ideology. Rachel cast aspersions on Bush’s nomination of Harriet Miers, but I have no doubt Miers would have been better for this nation than Samuel Alito, the nomination that replaced her. For the Supreme Court, a judge with a good heart is preferable to a judge with a “good” mind who is heartless.

They care about equivocating using homeless veterans: Why do we send foreign aid to country X? We have homeless veterans to feed! Why do we give food stamps to undeserving group Y? We have homeless veterans to house!

They never actually do anything about veteran homelessness. They just use us for a political talking point (while trying to take away the VA and other benefits).

Cornyn was born in Houston, the son of Atholene Gale Cornyn (née Danley) and John Cornyn II, a colonel in the U.S. Air Force.[4] While growing up, he attended the American School in Japan after his family moved to Tokyo in 1968, and graduated from there in 1969.[5]

Personally I hate this growing perception that all veterans are raging wingnuts.

No kidding. Raging wingnuts get lots of microphones put in their faces “to see what the vets have to say.”

I still haven’t seen any reporters come out here to “Trump country” to interview a single veteran who voted for Hillary Clinton. (Millions of us did so.)

The final talk of the day at the Brown Palace Hotel was on the Holocaust, by one of our society’s members, Jeffery McKay.

Mr. McKay is a member of the board of the Los Angeles Holocaust museum, and is a Holocaust survivor. (He was born in an attic in Holland during WW2, and through a series of amazing work and coincidences, he was smuggled out as a baby to Switzerland by his mother and father in a doctor’s bag. That bag is now on display in the museum in LA, along with many photographs and documents.)

His father worked with the Dutch resistance, manufacturing fake papers and passports to evacuate people from The Netherlands who were of interest to the Gestapo. In smuggling his own family out of the country, his wife’s ex-boyfriend helped him obtain certain items from the police to carry him across the border.

The ex-boyfriend was later jailed by the Germans for collaboration with the resistance, and left in jail till the end of the war. A long campaign by Mr. McKay’s family resulted in that man being inducted into Yad Vashem, including providing sworn testimony to the Israeli Embassy in Washington.

www3.nhk.or.jp (with video in English)

Typhoon Jebi has made its second landfall in Japan, slamming in to the country’s main island of Honshu. It hit the island of Shikoku a few hours earlier. It’s one of the strongest typhoons to make landfall in Japan in 25 years.

Jebi is wreaking havoc on transportation links with evacuation advisories still in place across wide areas.

We’re hearing reports that a few people in the country have been injured from the strong winds.

In western Japan, some people are taking shelter in centers like this amid a number of evacuation orders.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of people remain under evacuation advisories in the city of Kobe and also in Osaka Prefecture. Officials say heavy rain could lead to landslides or flooding.

There are also large disruptions to transportation links.
Shinkansen bullet train service between Tokyo and Osaka is suspended.

There are other rail service suspensions as well in the Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe areas.

Airline companies have cancelled more than 750 domestic flights scheduled for Tuesday mainly in western Japan.

Weather officials say Jebi is now heading toward the country’s north.

The Dems need at least 10% generic lead in order to balance all the gerrymandering and voter suppression going on.

People are registering and ready to vote who were not motivated in 2016 whereas a lot of people who supported Trump in 2016 are having second thoughts or perhaps just not as motivated to get out and vote for him.

We tend to overlook the entirely subjective aspect of motivation. I recall 2008, and just looking at the lines of people out to vote made it clear that they were not out in such numbers for McCain/Palin.

[W]hy is the president of the US attacking a department of justice official who’s fighting Russian organized criminals rather than attacking Russian organized criminals?

Isn’t the answer obvious?

I swear, the more Trump pisses and moans about the “witch hunts”, and (truly unprecedentedly) attacks government officials by name over their investigations, the guiltier he looks. Yet the “MSM” keep trying to elide this issue wherever possible.

Fmr CIA agent Evan McMullin and benjamin wittes with a very important question: why is the president of the US attacking a department of justice official who’s fighting Russian organized criminals rather than attacking Russian organized criminals?

The answer to that question is obvious to anyone who has followed Trump’s business history and associations and is one of the main reasons his tax returns have not been released.
