Here’s a band from back in the day that in my opinion doesn’t get the propers they deserve

Canned Heat Let’s Work Together (HQ Audio)

The video reminds me of my sisters dancing in their minis and go go boots. They had a whole routine, waiting for Shindig to call and make them stars. Ah youth!

Well, that was just remarkable.

Who built that axe?

But the way, regarding dangerman’s adoption of the new avatar, a true story:

Summer, 1961. I’m 5 1/2, and my Da is teaching Naval Aviation Cadets at NAS Pensacola to crash land T2-Js onto carrier decks, dogfight, and fly formation without running into each other..

My 4 1/2 year-old sister decides to take our two younger brothers (3 years and 15 months on “a trip to the grocery”). Sits down in front of a wall socket, tucks them up behind her, and sticks a brass key into the socket to start the car.

The lights go out in the house. I run into the dining room and sister is farthest from the wall. She’s fucking smoking. 3 year old brother is flat on his back, blown over the toddler, just shaking. Toddler brother is tuning up to scream. Molten brass is dribbling onto the carpet. Mom runs in yelling and goes silent. I run to the kitchen and get a glass of water to throw on the smoldering carpet. Mom calls an ambulance. Sister lost some skin off her thumb and two fingers. Our Da had a Serious Talk with us that night.

It wasn’t a good summer for my 3 year old brother. About a month earlier, I had traded two Box Turtles for a Chicken Turtle from a kid down the street, which I kept in a wading pool (5’ in diameter, two inflatable rings on the side- you remember) in the back yard.

Baby bro decided to take a look at the turtle while standing in the pool. It being a weekend, grilling was going on and adults were drinking beer. Pilots, go figure.

While having a stare-down with the turtle, baby bro discovered why they are called Chicken Turtles. They have really long necks which they can retract in their shells because of a quirk of anatomy. REALLY long necks. Like, five inch necks in seven inch shells.

It appears that the turtle got bored with the stare-down because he suddenly spanned the gap from his shell to three year old brothers upper lip, right in the middle, and chomped down, making them a single chimeric organism. He drops the turtle, which is now a half-pound medallion of Satan extending a full eleven inches from his upper lip to his chest.

Little brother goes AHHHH! and then, in a keening EEEE that is increasing in frequency, he begins to spin around in circles, faster and faster.

Well, of course, everyone is absolutely riveted by the tableau. As he spins, the turtle rises off his chest and approaches the horizontal, and what we hear as he spins is an ear-splitting EEEEEEeeeeeEEEEEeeeeeEEEEE.

My Da puts down his beer and runs to my brother. Just before he gets there the turtle lets go his grip and flies sideways. Dad scoops up my brother, takes one look at his face and takes him to the ER. Three stitches outer lip, three inner.

They made me release the turtle back to the wild and told me to never bring another water turtle home.

But it was an excellent lesson in science. This is how I learned of the Doppler effect.

Well, my n-word comment from last night had an effect. I posted it for two reasons: 1) I really think the Palins are racist shitbags and that’s what they think and 2) to test the new policy of that particular word not being censored at LGF anymore. A couple of Lizards were genuinely offended, one even thinking that I am indeed a racist! But for the most part y’all understood what I was trying to convey.

These are coarse times in the discourse, and I don’t apologize for being coarse from time to time.

Chemnitz is turning into an ugly stain. And in the end, it is only going to strengthen the hand of the extreme right AfD party.

Right now, they are large enough to make Germany ungovernable by anything but a Grand Coalition of the two “centrist” parties, but they are losing so much ground that the next government will have to include the AfD or go full Weimar Republic.

From what I understand, it looks like SD will make significant gains, but not enough to gain an outright majority.

Afterwards, there will of course be coalition talks - and it remains to be seen whether a coalition can be built without them. Either that, or a minority government again.

If I’m not mistaken, the AfD’s stronghold is largely the former DDR - they don’t perform so well in what used to be West Germany (with the exception of Bavaria, IIRC)

Yes, but they got 13% of the vote and a corresponding number of seats. The Socialists and Christian Democrats barely managed to scrape up a majority to for a Grand Coalition, I I suspect that they will not be able to do so next time around.

Right now, the two fringe parties, Die Linke and the AfD have been excluded from coalition talks by all other parties, but I suspect that Chemnitz will drive a lot of voters away towards the fringes and make it necessary to coalesce with one of them to form a viable majority government..

I have a hard time imagining the CDU aligning themselves with AfD (though I could see the Bavarian counterpart CSU doing that to an extent)…..so that would leave the SPD to align with Die Linke.

All rather unpalatable, IMHO.

The CSU has been eyeing the AfD for some time now, they want to appeal to the same sort of voters in Bavaria. And Die LInke is made up to a great extent of people who left the Socialists because they had gone too centrist. That and the former East German Communist Party.

So, yeah, why mar a good reputation?

West Germans have been living with immigrants since the 60’s. Although they are often not the ideal model of integration and tolerance, they have a much different history than former East Germany, which only knew Korean or Vietnamese guest workers or third-world students from friendly nations.

Right. I think that’s it for sure. Most of the Germans I meet are from the former West Germany interestingly enough. I think the same sort of dynamic explains the right here a little. Right wing strongholds are places where immigration hasn’t played a role in shaping the modernity. We in Northern Va are more liberal minded because we’ve had immigrants for a while. We grew up with them, were taught by them, went to school, etc. That doesn’t excuse xenophobia tho.

Morning!

Still sprinkling up here in Columbus. Solid rain all day yesterday, but nothing compared to southern Ohio and down your way in Northern Kentucky.

I heard they are worried about the 5 counties running along the Ohio River from Ironton up to Marietta.

I guess there is considerable flooding in Pike county just above Portsmouth from heavy overnight rains.

I would think the Ohio would flood after all of this.

It is about protecting the white race. In their twisted perception of the world, every aborted white fetus is one white individual less to counteract the non-whites… Every non-hetero couple is one less couple able to procreate to create more white babies. Hence why they think that it’s “white genocide” a lá CPPCG Article II (d) (“Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group”).
They don’t get that measures to prevent births in the group have to be forced on members of the group, voluntary doesn’t count.

There’s a lot of romanticism behind these parties. I’ve seen a lot of the Brexit supporters- older people pine about the Empire Day’s but the empire was international too. Yeah that’s how I saw it too. No idea how my cousins’(I have two who are married to Brits) husbands and their families voted but it was a stupid idea and not well thought at all. Both we and the Brits shot ourselves in the foot with Trump and Brexit. I guess at least our left isn’t wacked our like Labour under Corbyn. Not these days, but it’s lurking. The previous iterations of the Sweden Democrats like Sweden Party and Keep Sweden Swedish were more pronouncedly ethno-nationalistic, and the ultimate ancestor The Nordic Reich Party was openly national socialistic.
The alt-right here splintered around the time of Keep Sweden Swedish into one branch which has the Sweden Democrats and Alternative for Sweden (in turn a result of a splintering of the Sweden Democrats), and another branch which has the Nordic Resistance Movement (NMR, NRM). But they all have the same roots.

I grew up a minority, one of the handful of white families left on our block in Gary, Indiana and one of about a dozen white kids in my grade school class. I will not put up with people from all-white neighborhoods talking to me about issues of race and integration.

I grew up a majority but it was diverse and white males didn’t have all the authority positions. I don’t want to be lectured by the ideological descendants of the same people who cursed my family telling me we should unite over being white. Fuck that.

First Sunday of NFL football today. Trump will be looking to mouth off on the flag, one of his favorite “hey look at that squirrel over there” issues to fire up his idiot base.

I was just looking at ESPN and I see an article with their top NFL reporter, Adam Scheffer, saying the “new” NFL policy for this year is…no policy.

Looks like what they dreamed up earlier has been shot down.

What a stupid and unnecessary thing to worry about and fret over.

Half the people that say they care will either be at the concession, or sitting at home not paying attention to their glorious pre-game ceremony.

And, how can they hold their right hand over their hearts when they have their hands full of nasty nacho chips with greasy fake cheese,

Well at least the cheese is Orange. How about they make a thing about that…say it is in honor of Our Great Leader.

Not long ago (historically speaking), Germany was regarded as the “problem child” of Europe - largely due to Prussian influence on German society and culture.

It took a disastrous defeat, occupation by outside powers and four decades of enforced separation for Germany to develop into the democracy it is today. And even with all that, there’s still anti-democratic sentiment in many quarters (mostly to be found in the former East Germany).

It’s sad that Russia left communism behind only to embrace authoritarianism. It has never been a democracy.

A large percentage of Americans also embrace authoritarianism: why do you think much of white America (not all of us, of course!) praise the idea of a businessman as President? Most CEO’s are autocrats who expect their wishes to be followed and who fire those who publicly dissent. The best CEO’s welcome internal discussions but even they will react badly if anyone takes these disagreements public. When it comes to free speech, there are no first amendment rights in corporate America.

I was just checking my email at ATT/Yahoo and they have an article up on Yahoo news of an 18 year old young man who was standing on a rock trying to take a selfie of himself against a waterfall at Yosemite National Park and he fell 820 feet to his death.

They make it sound like he was standing on a wobbly rock near Nevada Falls.

I guess it happened mid-week. He was on an extended vacation before going into the Israeli military.

The woman who should be President.

But if the Congress were the same as the one elected in 2016, she would be blocked at every turn and would be subject to unending investigations. Would they even allow her to appoint any judges? They certainly would not pass any legislation that she favored. We might even be facing a government shutdown as Congress voted for budgets that she would veto.

Of course, the ACA would be safe; we would still be part of the Paris accords; the Iranian treaty would be in full force; the environment would be protected; our foreign policy would be in good hands.

There’s a great documentary called The Corporation which, among other things, makes a pretty strong case that most large companies share sociopathic tendencies.

Our tour guide at the Grand canyon told us about a woman in his group who feel 2000 feet to her death taking selfies. As a group, they ferry you about but you’re on your own when you get to the various areas.

We saw a guy pushing a baby buggy with a running 3 year old heading straight to the edge. I had to leave it freaked me out so badly.

We make a mistake thinking anything a Trump says is intended for people that know facts. They’ve run their businesses (into the ground) the same way. Make as much headway you can off your marks that buy your shit, then tank it once everyone knows the truth.

I really do believe that after Trump is gone, however it happens, he says something like: I can’t believe I was ever president. It is amazing what you can convince the American public to accept. They made me president. Sure, I had some help, that was part of the deal.”

The only path is to get into the daylight as fast as you can, not like Omarosa, but as a true whistleblower and patriot. Your only value now is in pulling down the entire system. And:

Tennis Has Had Some Epic Meltdowns. Serena Williams’ Wasn’t One Of Them.

At no time did Williams curse at Ramos or the officials, nor did she hurl a ball at them, scream to the crowd or yell at her opponent ― behavior that has been part of other notable tennis breakdowns.

Still, many news stories framed Williams as an angry and overly emotional woman. The Telegraph’s headline said Williams “unleashed furious rant at umpire.” Other articles included mentions of a “meltdown,” an “angry Williams,” a “sore loser,” and an “extraordinary rant…”

And about the booing:

During the trophy ceremony, the crowd showed their intense displeasure with Ramos’ rulings by booing loudly. But Williams, 36, wrapped an arm around Osaka, who was crying, and quieted the crowd.

“She played well and this is her first Grand Slam,” Williams told the fans. “Let’s make this the best moment we can, we’ll get through it. Let’s give everyone credit where credit’s due. Let’s not boo anymore. We’re going to get through this. Let’s stay positive. Congratulations, Naomi. No more booing!”

Shit as an Orioles fan in baseball, Earl Weaver is beloved when talked about by older fans who remember his many arguments with the umpires and they’re not wrong, Earl was awesome and an all time great manager. Serena’s getting a raw deal.

Tennis has not had a good run recently when it comes to the ladies’ side of the game. The French Open screwing up the announcement on dress code, a referee penalizing a female player for fixing her backwards shirt, and now this. And that’s in addition to the usual stories about prize discrepancies between the men and women

Though neither, of course, looked as good as VB’s…. ;)
