Donald Trump Blatantly Fabricates a Quote by President Obama (w/ Video Proof)

Politics • Views: 33,259

So today, Donald Trump tweeted what he represented as a quote from President Obama, to boast about the new GDP numbers that are mostly due to President Obama.

I hope you aren’t too surprised, but that “quote” was completely fabricated.

Here’s the video clip, queued up to the section where Obama makes his “magic wand” comment.

YouTube

When somebody says, like the person you just mentioned who I’m not gonna advertise for, that he’s gonna bring all these jobs back. Well, how exactly are you gonna do that, what are you gonna do? There’s no answer to it — he just says, I’m gonna, I’m gonna negotiate a better deal. How exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually the answer is … he doesn’t have an answer.

As you can see for yourself, Obama wasn’t talking about the GDP here. He was talking about Trump’s claim that he’s going to “bring back jobs,” and he didn’t even refer to Trump by name.

The only words in Trump’s tweet that he didn’t make up out of thin air were “magic wand.” This is not how quotes work.

The current president of the US is a shameless, inveterate liar.

UPDATE at 9/10/18 12:41:30 pm by Charles Johnson

Oh, and by the way — he was also lying about his GDP claim, of course.

Context is a bitch when you’re an economic illiterate who walked into Daddy’s money box and got gifted the Presidency by people who just hated his opponents and are even dumber than he is.

Well, and the other thing is that lying constantly eventually makes it so no lie you tell is newsworthy. Everyone was SO UPSET with Bill Clinton wagging his finger and declaring he didn’t have sexual relations with Monica (“He LIED to the American People!!!”), but Trump? He says he didn’t have sex with Stormy Daniels and then pay her off, and 60% of the population KNOWS he did and just lied about it, and it’s just another lie.

Conservatism is a religion; it always has been (it can’t fail, it can only be failed, sounds like every holy book I ever read).

The last polling of President Nixon’s approval rating just before he left office had him at 24% (within the margin of error of the crazification factor).

It’ll be harder for Trump with so many Never Trumpers willing to repeatedly point out that he’s an amoral, classless, moronic asshole of historic proportions. I suspect it’ll be more like Nixon where there will be a segment who believes he got a raw deal. Unlike Nixon, though, Trump has no redeeming accomplishments to save his credibility a couple decades down the line.

I forget where I was reading it, but someone pointed out because of the size of Texas and having five top 100 markets, having to spend money in Texas drastically affects campaign money strategy nationally. Having to defend in Texas weakens their positions in other races in the way that challenging in North Dakota doesn’t.

The top three metropolitan areas in Texas are each bigger than half the states. Yes, having to spend money here will suck money from somewhere else.

Why Stripping U.S. Citizens of Their Passports Is a Precursor to Genocide (Goes to Harper’s Bazaar, more at the link)

Subtitle: It’s what happened to Jews in Germany in 1938 when their passports were declared invalid.

Taking away people’s passports and citizenship is a precursor to genocide.

It’s what happened to Jews in Germany in 1938 when their passports were declared invalid. That is what is beginning to happen here, now, to Hispanic citizens along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Oh, is it bad to compare the GOP to Nazis? Well, if members of the GOP do not like being compared to Nazis, they should consider not behaving exactly like Nazis.

Hispanic U.S. citizens, some of whom were in the U.S. military, are not being allowed to renew their passports. This is reportedly happening to “hundreds, even thousands” of Latinos, according to a report in the Washington Post. They’re getting letters from the State Department saying it does not believe they are citizens. The government claims their citizenships are fraudulent. “I’ve had probably 20 people who have been sent to the detention center—U.S. citizens,” Jaime Diez, an attorney in Brownsville, told The Washington Post.

I missed it earlier but the ride accident at the Ohio State Fair last year has claimed another death.

The Columbus Dispatch - Second person dies from injuries in Fire Ball ride collapse at Ohio State Fair

A second victim of the Fire Ball ride accident on opening day of the 2017 Ohio State Fair has died, according to WBNS-TV (Channel 10), citing her attorney, James E. Arnold.

Jennifer Lambert, 19, had suffered brain injuries when one of the gondolas on the Fire Ball broke away.

Neither Arnold nor Lambert’s court-appointed guardian, W. Scott Hayes, could be reached Friday night for comment.

Lambert is the second person to die as a result of the ride’s failure. Tyler Jarrell, 18, was thrown from a gondola and pronounced dead at the scene of the July 26, 2017 incident and six other people were injured.

Lambert had received a nearly $1.8 million settlement from the fair. Due to the injuries she suffered, a special needs trust was created on her behalf, and all net proceeds of the settlement were to go into that trust, according to Licking County Probate Court documents. The documents also stated that the money would continue to go into the trust, the Jennifer Lambert Irrevocable Special Needs Trust, after her death.

It’s probably a useless exercise in senior-frettimg but I have been trying to figure out just what kind of October surprise the Republicans will deploy in an effort to avoid the looming electoral disaster. I suspect that the Russians will help, possibly with some kind of damaging revelation. Since Putin’s favorite vegetable, Assange, has reached his expiration date, they will probably vector this through their network of American stooges. It will be carefully crafted, with just enough truth to make it hard to sort out in the limited time available. It is also likely to be pitched to potential Democratic voters, especially the newly registered.

She walked into someone else’s home and shot them, dead.

Two questions:

First, is this simply something that TrumpCo commissioned from Converse? I suspect Converse will probably print a lot of different thing on the side of their high top sneakers if you pay them enough.

Second, if Nike owns Converse, do MAGATs now have to burn their MAGA shoes?

Well, one lesson that seems to have been learned (albeit the hard way) from GW Bush and his (lack of) response to Hurricane Katrina, is that no WH is going to ever want to look like they are ignoring or minimizing major storm threats*, even if the “response”, at least immediately, is mainly in the form of “concern” publicity. Of course, what they do during/after a hurricane is more important: but, apart from the disgusting fact that Trump always wants to make things about HIM, these sort of tweets are pretty much what one would expect from the WH. And at least, nowadays, coastal/hazard areas get a few (4!) days’ warning.

*Puerto Rico, obviously, excepted.

Apparently, “there are men from the Russian embassy waiting to take her away” got back to the judge, because she’s going nowhere until trial.

“I cannot envision a scenario where it’s not possible,” [Federal District Judge] Chutkan said, for Butina to walk out of jail, get in a car with diplomatic plates and take a flight out of the country if she were to be released before her trial. “There’s a very real risk of flight.”

The parties are sorting by race. The GOP is becoming the party of non-college educated white people and some rich white people; while the Democratic Party is the party of everyone else. And things like “is climate change real? and should we do something about it?” are being used as virtue signals.

What’ the opposite of a “virtue signal”? Because, that’s really where we are. Denial of what’s become fucking obvious is now essentially required for membership in today’s GOP.

Maybe back in the early 1990s, there was a point to the idea of climate change being subject to debate, because we hadn’t really moved outside of the historical ranges yet. Now? At this point there’s no question, except “how bad?”

Me too. It gives me less than no comfort to know that the yam, the liar and the ghoul are on the case, along with the rest of their buffoons. Surprised he didn’t individually praise his buddy Henry McMaster as is his usual wont.

I’m not going anywhere till at least Wednesday. They ordered evacuation for tomorrow at noon for the coastline of the whole fucking state, so traffic will be just hideous—and since the earliest expected landfall isn’t till Thursday, I think I’m good.

Where I’m going? No idea—depends on how Stanley Sea does in finding us hotel rooms!

First off, best thoughts for all Lizards affected by Florence (Motto: Kiss my grits, bitches!)

I’d head up toward Union, SC, and hunker down. DON’T use the Interstates. Use the Blue Highways, much less crowded. We learned that the hard way during Ike. Absolutely gridlocked on I-10 and I-45.

Any place on or west the I-85 corridor should be good, especially in SC. If I was in NC, I’d head well west of Fayetteville. Hell, Asheville is nice. Visit the Biltmore, stay on high ground. Take lots of Beanie Weenies and Dinty Moore stew. It’s disgusting but its concentrated usable calories. Ramen, tuna.

This storm is tuning up to be epic. The Marines will flush Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune of aircraft tomorrow. If it does stall just off the coast, the scenario is ripe for over 70” of rain. Why NC hasn’t called for the evacuation of the rest of the Coast is beyond me.

And let’s hold a good thought for BWS and Mr.BWS, too. I’m assuming they’ll stage him west of Columbia, SC. He might not get home for a month.

Through the Miracle Of The Intertubes, I was able to check the traffic on major routes out of Florida when Irma was headed up the Gulf Coast of Florida and at one point predicted to hit Sarasota (where My Idiot Sister lives) as a Cat.4. At 2 AM EDT, the freeways were largely clear.

I think a lot of people think, “I’ll get up REAL EARLY and beat the traffic!” but it never occurs to them that everyone else is thinking the same thing. “Getting up REAL EARLY” in this context is probably best “not going to bed”, and leaving the house about midnight. About the time everyone else is waking up, you’re 200 miles away.
