Bob is the most careful reporter in Washington, and has been for almost fifty years. The idea that he would publish lies is, just simply, bullshit. Everything he wrote has double confirmation.

Trump is just frantic, having to have the truth stuffed into his face.

Suffer, you Chito dusted spunktrumpet.

Suffer, and realize your resignation is coming at you like a freight train.

Night all, sweet scaly dreams.

I’ve got to sand 50 years of texture bits off of the kitchen walls tomorrow to prep for a 1950’s wallpaper application (same company that did the wallpaper for the apartments in The shape of Water), ours is designated as “Post War Cottage>).

Makes sense since our 1950 house is a 2/1 with +/- 1200 sq ft. It also has a finished 400 sq ft two-car garage with a full bath scabbed on to it. 7,500 sq ft lot, and our property tax this year will be $11,000. But we have no income tax. As a retiree, that makes it all the worse.

Oh, and it’s raining again. Anything in the dirt bank is welcome.

One of his books about dubya included the “slam dunk” quote about WMD in Iraq. That one caused quite a stir.

But I don’t think any of his earlier books had a “president” almost starting an insanely stupid war with an insanely stupid tweet.

I really miss National Educational Television. You couldn’t help but learn something if you watched. It was an era of America where people didn’t want to be stupid and they sought out knowledge.

You could turn on NET-TV and learn about the brain, english, science, music..

Study of Government

or even civics.

NET became CPB and PBS, and more corporatized as a result. Even so, the successors to NET have managed to create some winning programming, like Reading Rainbow, Sesame Street, and a whole slew of historical, cultural, current affairs and musical programming. There is less didactic education, such as the movie here, which we can argue is a good (or bad) thing till the cows come home.

PBS was where I first encountered the likes of Richard Attenborough, Alistair Cook , Dr Who and of course, Monty Python. I also recall outstanding music programming, Austin City Limits being the first one to come to mind.

As noted yesterday morning, the models for Florence show a lingering storm with all sorts of crazy tracks once it hits North Carolina.

The model with the strongest storm is the GFS but folks say it usually overestimates the strength of a cyclone:

However, in the above scenario the eye stays off land and instead does a loop and then hits NC farther south as a weaker hurricane.

Anyway, it’s beginning to look like a 3 to 5 day event for NC.

People building a house in or near Trier, Germany, have learned not to excavate a cellar. It is all too likely that one will stumble across some Roman ruins and have to suspend construction until the authorities can come out and investigate.

that is fine, but imagine planning on building a house and then have to sit and wait for an undetermined amount of time until they get around to examining the site…

we had a very tight time schedule in order to get our house build and inhabitable by the fall. All we found was an antique septic tank that flooded the excavation and had to be pumped out, causing a few days’ delay…

Other nations are quietly making plans and putting mechanisms in place to deal with the fact that the US is no longer a partner that can be trusted to honor agreements. Angela Merkel said as much in 2017, in a very diplomatic way.

It is a matter of accountability, it is a matter of prosecutors not wanting to alienate police because they often work with them to obtain convictions (against non-police officers) and of course, of the fact that America is so gun-ridden that police have to view nearly every encounter as potentially life-threatening.

Morning.

I just wanted to stop in and say I am more than a little bummed out about what happened with the “N” word on Saturday and since.

I see teleskiguy made an apology last night.

I worry all that has caused some big disappointments with some of our members and maybe some of them may not contribute further.

I was really bummed after reading Bass Reeves on point comment yesterday. Real bummed.

And I feel like I was a part of it in a way by helping excuse teleskiguy’s use of it, even though I wasn’t excusing the use of the word, just trying to understand teleskiguy.

Anyway, I’m bummed with it all, and I am going to lay low for a bit. Time to do some pondering.

I hope we don’t lose good people like Bass Reeves and our other Black contributors. I see them as very valuable to what this site is all about and what we are all trying to help each other through.

Because, once again, only right-wing thought is ever truly ever ‘true’ or ‘factual’ by default, and anything contrary to that must be the worst lies from the pits of hell:

Facebook has blatantly taken a side, masquerading it as objective fact checking. All because of one other outlet’s say-so.

Again, conservative thought is treated as the one sole truth, and anything on the liberal side of things is treated like a lie out of the gate, hyper-scrutinized, and still treated like suspect bullshit even when proven factual. They’ve been gift-wrapped the very concept of ‘true’, gifted a monopoly of ‘truth’ while peddling bad faith falsehoods out of their ass. And fighting back against it seems to just cause outlets like Facebook to hunker down even more, treat us with even more contempt and hide even further behind the reputations of places like the Weekly Standard the entire while.

Fuck everything….

EDIT: Reordered the tweets, since I didn’t realize the embeds would work without being the initially linked tweet now.

Thing is, they balk at a reasonably objective source and treat it like a partisan left wing source. We don’t need to go super-partisan to see that kind of outsized reaction when they demonize proper fact-checkers, and get that treated with good faith. That’s even more dangerous because they’ve been allowed to define the fringes of the debate, and are allowed so consistently.

Bitcoin bloodbath: Cryptocurrency plunges 20% in two days
(CNN)

Michel Rauchs, who researches cryptocurrency and blockchain at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, said the explosive rise in prices in 2017 attracted a wave of inexperienced investors.

“Retail investors, students, housewives, even grandma was driven in by the hype,” says Rauchs. “They were told by the media that this was an opportunity of a lifetime. They bought at the top and are now sitting on heavy losses.”

The crash has left professional investors and enthusiasts debating where cryptocurrencies go from here.

“Clearly the frenzy that we have seen and the volatility in the price of bitcoin … resembles a lot of other financial bubbles that happen over and over again in our economic history,” said Benedetto De Martino, a behavioral economist at University College London.

From ThinkProgress:

A panel of three Republican judges openly defied the Supreme Court on Monday, permitting a law that is nearly identical to the abortion restriction the justices struck down in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt to take effect.

Just like Hellerstedt, Comprehensive Health v. Hawley concerns two restrictions on abortion. The first requires abortion clinics to comply with expensive architectural requirements, the second requires that “all doctors who perform abortions at ASCs must be ‘privileged to perform surgical procedures in at least one licensed hospital in the community.’” Again, the Supreme Court struck down a nearly identical Texas law in Hellerstedt.

The same cannot be said, however, about Missouri’s law requiring abortion providers to be able to perform surgical procedures at a nearby hospital. Indeed, if anything, this provision of Missouri’s law is significantly more restrictive than Texas’. The law struck down in Hellerstedt merely required abortion doctors to “have active admitting privileges at a hospital” within 30 miles of the clinic. The Missouri law requires abortion providers to be able to perform surgeries in a nearby hospital, and it requires that hospital to be no more than “15 minutes away.”

And yet, the panel of three Republican judges all conclude that this provision may stand, at least for now. Judge Shepherd claims this result is justified because “Hellerstedt did not find, as a matter of law, that abortion was inherently safe or that provisions similar to the laws it considered would never be constitutional.” The Supreme Court’s opinion in Hellerstedt determined that abortion was very safe in the state of Texas, but “no such determination about abortion in Missouri was made here.”

Shorter Republicans: Just because the SCOTUS determines the law of the land, doesn’t mean they determine the law in Missouri.

These guys are hoping Kavanaugh is on the court by the time this gets there.

More managerial drama from me, the new manager:

Tonight I was treated (?) to the new guy’s racist diatribe against “Northeast Asian” women, who apparently all give him the evil eye. It was so over the top, I had to surreptitiously record it on my cellphone, because no one would fcking believe me if I told them what he said. I now have to do the FBI thing and type up my notes about it from memory, because wow. I see trouble ahead.

I always do memory joggers and put them in my phone because I’ve been on the receiving end of multiple EEOC investigations from people who abuse the system. The last one involved a worker who continually lies about everything alleging I abused her…on a day I was on leave and at Kaiser get an IV of Humira. I wasn’t in the office at all. It that didn’t stop the EEOC from giving me the 3rd degree…until they looked at the office’s attendance record and saw I was on leave for the whole day.

- railed against the superdelegates and DNC ‘collusion’ with the Clinton campaign
- flatly rejected the idea that Russia in any way interfered in the election
- maintained that fake news stories and bogus BLM posts on Facebook influenced the election (his reasoning - they didn’t spend a lot of money)
- straight up laughed in my face when I expressed concern that Russia fucked with us
- denied that Jill Stein has any involvement at all with Russia
- maintained that if Bernie had started a third party in 2016, he would have won the election
- said more than once that Bernie is the most respected politician in the US

He asked me what I thought Russia’s goal was in planting fake stories and starting fake organization pages on Facebook. I told him their goal was to get the country to a place where we didn’t know what to believe and as a result believe nothing.

My friend is not a dumb guy, but he’s been sucked into believing a bunch of bullshit due to saltiness about Bernie not winning the election. I think I’m just going to beg off on discussing politics with him at all going forward, because I had to bite my tongue to avoid telling him he’s been suckered.

Evans faces six criminal charges for allegedly using a shell company to win minority and small business contracts from the city of Cincinnati and the state. He faces up to 103 years in prison if convicted.

For more than three years, FBI agents investigated Evans, who they accuse of using a shell company to win minority and small business contracts for demolishing houses, public schools and other projects.

With trial set to begin on Nov. 14, Evans’ attorneys filed four motions seeking to ban evidence that could be damaging to his case - such as jokes he may have made about “going to jail,” or evidence of his wealth.

“Mr. Evans’ financial success allowed him to lead a lifestyle beyond that of the average juror,” Evans’ attorney, Ben Dusing, wrote in a motion. “The only possible reason for the government to seek introduction of documents or testimony of Mr. Evans’ wealth and affluence is to portray Mr. Evans as unlikeable in the eyes of the jury.”

Pretty sure it isn’t his wealth and affluence that make him unlikable, to a jury or anyone else.

Like I said last night, if it were the black man standing over a white female cop with a smoking gun, they wouldn’t have waited until Sunday to charge him with murder. Hell, he’s dead and they’re already using a warrant to search his place for any illegal substances or evidence of crimes. Before this is over, we’re going to get told that she was really looking to bust him for a crime and the whole “I accidentally broke in” story was cover for a sting operation that went south.

“… The veteran Watergate journalist wrote in his new book — “Fear: Trump in the White House” — that Gary Cohn, the now-former top economic adviser, told Trump that the Federal Reserve was likely to increase rates during his first term in office, in an excerpt first reported by Business Insider.

“We should just go borrow a lot of money, hold it, and then sell it to make money,” Trump reportedly said in response.

Cohn was “astounded” by the president’s response, which he reportedly said illustrated a “lack of basic understanding” about how federal debt works.

Trump, who was the president-elect at the time and had promised to wipe out U.S. debt in eight years, reportedly offered a solution: “Just run the presses—print money.”

Woodward wrote that Cohn then went on to explain how printing more money is thought to lead to inflation and could be catastrophic for the fiscal health of the U.S.

“It was clear that Trump did not understand the way the US government debt cycle balance sheet worked,” Woodward wrote. …”

I’ll go further and say if she’d gunned down a white guy, they wouldn’t be treating the victim as a suspect in his own shooting. Or would have hesitated as long as they did to charge her. Or perhaps it wasn’t hesitation, but rather the delay needed to find a judge who’d listen to the facts of the case and not balk at the suggestion that she only be charged with manslaughter.

2008 review:

Much to my chagrin I have to report that when it comes to spirits, whoever’s doing the dirty work for Trump knows his business. (It’s actually a long-running Dutch outfit called Wanders Distillery.) Distilled (five times) from wheat and bottled at 80 proof, it’s a traditional spirit that is countered by its gaudy packaging: Enormous gold Ts appear on the front and back of the thing. If ever a bottle was designed for Atlantic City, this is it.

Trump is not exactly the most complicated of spirits. It’s a very clean and almost weak vodka, with a hint of sweetness and a light medicinal tone that sets up a classic vodka profile. Not harsh by any stretch, I actually had trouble believing this was really 40 percent alcohol. Probably best as a mixer, Trump is easy to drink straight, though it’s hardly something to kick back and savor as you watch the sun set or the fireplace roar.

I’d give it a higher rating were it not for the silly high price. But then it wouldn’t be Trump, would it?

drinkhacker.com

Trump killed it by overestimating the appeal of his own name. As usual.
