I sort of figured the California 39th wouldn’t go blue. And that looks to be the case as Kim has opened up a 10 point lead on Cisneros. Though I found this bit of info interesting:

Currently, the Democrat holds a large lead among Hispanic voters (54% to 29%) while the race is very close among Asian voters (43% for Cisneros to 41% for Kim). This advantage is offset by Kim’s 58% to 36% lead among non-Hispanic white voters. Cisneros has been active in Latino philanthropic organizations while Kim, who immigrated to the U.S. as a child, would be the first Korean-American woman in Congress if elected. The district is one of the most ethnically diverse in the country, with sizable Latino and Asian communities, which combined make up a majority of all residents. However, these groups also have a much lower rate of voting. Also helping Kim’s standing is that she is leading among white voters with a college degree (53% to 41%) as well as those without (62% to 31%). This runs counter to the national trend of Democrats winning college-educated white voters.

Not entirely sure what that means, big picture, but seems interesting. I haven’t paid much attention to the race, and it’s hard to get much coverage for individual districts out here, so I’m not sure if Kim has been running away from Trump or not (though I’m guessing she has since Clinton actually won this district two years ago).

Most CA red districts are REALLY RED, which means flipping them is damn near impossible. Even with criminal charges Hunter will probably still win since Republicans don’t give a damn about things like that, and Devon Nunes seems likely to win as well.

Eh, this district has been changing, Kim actually lost a state assembly race in the same area in 2016, she beat the incumbent Dem in 2014 and then lost in a rematch.

The district’s actually rated even on the PVI. So it’s still an interesting race, but I think it’s going to be one of the harder pick ups. Mimi Waters in Irvine though, she might be toast.

I hope she is toast.

One of my closest friends lives in that district, so I take a little interest in its politics. Unfortunately, my friend is not a U.S. citizen so she can’t vote. I know if she could, she would vote the straight Democratic ticket.

It’s kind of interesting, really. The district includes a good chunk of north Orange County but also Hacienda Heights and Chino Hills. It’s apparently only 34% (non-Hispanic) white, 28.5% Asian and 32.6% Hispanic. And the median age is about 38. So the demographics seem to favor the Dems, but turnout is always key.

ok fellow bit slingers, beware of this bug-waiting-to-happen

turns out that in oracle you can have a ‘varchar’, that is, a string field, yet oracle will allow you to test it as a numeric field, i.e.

select * from tricksy where mystringfield=1984;

apparently oracle will *silently* cast numeric strings to integers for you so that you don’t have to realize that you wrote a bug UNTIL one fine day when a non numeric character is written into that field

then you get only a semi helpful error msg: “invalid number”

Kyoko, our Eskie, was generally friendly to all the dogs who ever came to visit (though she was leash-aggressive on walks), and we had quite a few over the years*. A friend came by with her dog, and Mrs. FBW, as we always did, had her come in the gate, so they’d meet in the yard, which always worked well.

Not this time. Kyoko took one look at this poor dog and attacked. Luckily no damage, but poor Mrs. FBW was left having to apologize and speak the often-true-but-never-truly-believed line “She’s never done anything like that before” (she never had).

No idea why Kyoko decided she hated this one dog. She had literally never done that before. No dog “Ever did anything like that before”, until they do.

This wouldn’t apply to greyhounds, but once I was ‘running’ on a track, and a woman let her little dog off its leash (which she carried) and when she noticed my annoyance, she called the little guy, who ignored her. Next time I was passing her, I said, ‘That’s what the leash is for.’ She got all defensive, and made fun of me for being afraid of her cute little dog. I said, ‘He’s a fucking tripping hazard!’ and went into detail about what one trip could do to me. She put the leash on it, and left.

I no longer fear one trip the way I did a couple of years ago. We apologized to each other when she recognized me a month or two later. I still carry pepper spray. People yell at me whenever I get it out.

Even if you believe for a second that Guyger genuinely thought that Jean was a burglar, she violated some of the most basic common sense policies and deserves (as O’Rourke stated) to be fired. You do NOT advance into a dark room alone, even if you’re armed, if you have reason to believe that there is an intruder. You retreat, you call for back-up, and you keep watch on the only known exit. If he entered through your front door, odds are that’s the way he’s going to come out.

If you mean Greyhounds aren’t tripping hazards, The Younger Boy would disagree.

Some years back when both he and Rango were younger and more rambunctious, he decided to try running with Rango. Two houses down the street, Rango, who’d been running on TYB’s left, decided he wanted to sniff something on TYB’s right. R cut in front of him, and down TYB went, skinning both his palms. And that was the end of THAT walk!

Rango is….not the sharpest crayon in the box. It took a couple years to get him to be a really obedient walker, and he has difficulty understanding the permanence of “NO!”

But he’s my big galoot, and I love him like crazy.

We have dog parks where the dogs roam free, all other parks dogs are supposed to be on a leash. I have a tiny dog that would be dead in half a second if a big dog attacked him.

I honestly don’t mind if your dog is off leash and under your control. But If you’re new, and I don’t know you, how the hell do I know whether or not you have control of your dog and if your dog is nice?

The other day, I was walking my dog and these girls I know were walking their dog. On leash, of course. A lady we didn’t know was there with two off leash dogs. When the girls were walking by her, the lady yelled at them. “Could you please move on. I want to run my dogs.” WTF?

And the only reason she thought she could get away with it is the girls were teens.

I was so pissed. She knew it too, because before I could get back to her and let me tell you it would have been SO ON, she loaded her dogs in her truck and took off.

With that entitlement, I have zero doubt she is a trumpster. (See? Brought it back to politics.) :D

I really do like the double-speak that Kavanaugh was this stand-up guy who never got stumbling drunk and was always a perfect gentleman around the ladies, but if he did get stinking drunk and try to forcibly rape a girl then that would be acceptable behavior for a 17 yr old.

We have dog parks where the dogs roam free, all other parkls dogs are supposed to be on a leash.

The Greyhound adoption group where we got Zeena and Rango strongly suggests adopters not take their dogs to dog parks. Some dogs play rough, and Greyhounds have really thin skin*. When they get together for events, and are going to be offleash, the GSGA insists all dogs wear muzzles.

* Rango got a 2” triangular tear on his right flank a week or so after we got him. No idea where he got it, somewhere in the yard. He never complained, which is funny because Greyhounds are know for being total Drama Queens over tiny injuries - look up “Greyhound Scream Of Death” (GSOD).

Hence the efforts by the wingnut media to try to steer them towards seeing her as the victim of the DNC, arguing that it’s all “mistaken identity,” she’s being guided by Feinstein to accuse Kavanaugh falsely, and thus is being “exploited.”

They desperately do not want another Anita Hill, not in an era where the treatment Hill received would have killed Thomas’ nomination dead.

We have a couple of dog parks that have small dog sections, but, of course, people ignore that. So dog parks are a no go for me. You do NOT advance into a dark room alone, even if you’re armed, if you have reason to believe that there is an intruder. You retreat, you call for back-up, and you keep watch on the only known exit. If he entered through your front door, odds are that’s the way he’s going to come out.

In any event you protect yourself even if the intruder gets away

But the GOP aren’t reasonable people, so they’ll say that Prof. Ford’s one and only chance is to show up on Monday, and if she refuses they’ll consider the matter “closed” and move forward with the nomination because they can’t be delayed by “unsupported allegations.”

The Senate is racing to avoid the third government shutdown of the year ahead of a looming end-of-the-month deadline.

Senators on Tuesday voted 93-7 to pass a sweeping $854 billion spending bill that includes funding for the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services (HHS), Labor and Education, which make up the lion’s share of total government spending.

Six Republican senators — Jeff Flake (Ariz.), Mike Lee (Utah), Rand Paul (Ky.), David Perdue (Ga.), Ben Sasse (Neb.) and Pat Toomey (Pa.) — joined Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in voting against the bill, which also includes a short-term stopgap bill to fund the rest of the government through Dec. 7 and prevent a shutdown that would start Oct. 1.

Hillary said that if the GOP keeps Congress, Trump will go on a full throttled purge throughout the government.

Think of Stalin in the 30s…

Stalin didn’t stop with the government and neither will Trump. He has 66 million sworn enemies out there and he’s not going to let that slide.

I’m not an enemy of the state, but I may be an enemy a resident of our Whitehouse who imagines himself to be the state.

Dr Blasey Ford’s account is that she always remembered and knew what happened to her from the moment it happened, but that she only *told* a therapist about it in 2012. That’s quite different than a “recovered memory

Please stop trying to “explain” this in any way other than the obvious one

What she said happened, happened

What about the kids separated from their parents? Is Trump passionate about them? Or the kids without healthcare? Or those molested by priests?

Several people have told me I should turn down my heat in defense of Brett Kavanaugh. Y’all, I’m sorry, but I have little patience for a group of people willing to destroy an innocent man so they can keep killing kids. And that’s exactly what this is about.

If you think she’s lying, say she’s lying

Getting Kavanaugh in place is another experiment in seeing what they can get away with.

Keep 90% of his record concealed? Participant in one of those conservative organizations that’s specifically about using judges to push the country right? Willing to accept mendacity and “I don’t know” to questions that should have answers? Obvious shady shit—like debts that disappeared inexplicably—not getting looked at?

We’re dealing with people who really believe they’re entitled to do this, but are afraid of getting caught.

They are not really afraid of getting caught

They are afraid of not getting it done

The Senate GOP are not afraid of getting Kavanaugh himself seated, they figure they can easily find another thug in the judiciary who will be their solid fifth vote to dismantle social policy going back to the New Deal (and further back, if possible). Their worry is if he falls, there’s not enough time left on the clock to get another nominee rammed through before the next Congress is seated.

Donny is afraid because even if can find a new far-right justice to seat on the bench, Kavanaugh is his only real guarantee of not seeing prosecution for his crimes any earlier than 2021. Such that it could even override his instinctual need to avoid association with “losers.”

And Kavanaugh is shitting bricks because this was supposed to be a sure thing, the reward he was due for decades of being a loyal foot soldier for the party. If his nomination is pulled or he loses his confirmation vote, there is no second chance. He will be damaged goods, the very possibility of going through the whole look into his sex life being enough to ward off any future possibilities at nomination.

Everybody lies, but not always for the same reasons.

Kavanaugh was only guilty of heavy pettin’,

Which turned up in Drump’s ‘stensive vettin’.

“The most extreme vetting, believe me!” DJT

“No president has ever consulted more widely, or talked with more people from more backgrounds, to seek input about a Supreme Court nomination.” Brett Kavanaugh

re: #85 plansbandc

Yeah. I don’t think they’re a great idea even with a big dog. My vet isn’t a fan of them at all either.

We have a couple of dog parks that have small dog sections, but, of course, people ignore that. So dog parks are a no go for me. I take the little one on walks twice a day, usually at the closest neighborhood city park. There’s a small group of regulars we know, so it works out well. But we do have to go somewhere else sometimes if there are a lot of off leash dogs.

I have twenty acres. Anyone coming through Michigan with their puppy is invited to enjoy walking their dog here.
