Kavanaugh News Night: Shit Hits Fan

Politics • Views: 31,624

First, go read the just-released piece by Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer…

And then, hang onto your horses if you have horses to hang onto, because there’s more news from Michael Avenatti…

By any measure a bad night for Brett Kavanaugh, his GOP sugar daddies, and our so-called president.

As for the pool, I’m of the opinion that the GOP will try to actually bring this guy to a vote, and only after massive public and Democratic outcry, “reluctantly” withdraw his nomination “under protest”, probably citing some bullshit about the Deep State.

In a just world, his own church would throw him out. But I know they’ll just swallow his load like always, because church people these days are being deprogrammed from thinking, trained only to follow the word of the god who stands behind the pulpit, not the God of the Bible.

They want to make him another Bork I think at this point. Someone they will always blame the Democrats/left for why he never got confirmed to rally their base. He may still get confirmed but he’s going to be the most divisive SCOTUS member in recent memory and his decisions are going to be closely looked at especially on women’s issues.

Now we wait to see how long before Donny’s coyote instincts kick in and he gnaws off his leg to put distance between himself and Kavanaugh.

21
jaunte  Sep 23, 2018 • 5:25:34pm
“…James Roche was roommates with Kavanaugh at the time of the alleged incident and is now the C.E.O. of a software company in San Francisco. “Debbie and I became close friends shortly after we both arrived at Yale,” he said. “She stood out as being exceptionally honest and gentle. I cannot imagine her making this up.” He said that he never witnessed Kavanaugh engage in any sexual misconduct, but did recall him being “frequently, incoherently drunk.”

A. Just the kind of background you want on the Supreme Court.
B. So Kavanaugh’s memory of anything back then is not trustworthy.

I wonder- now - whether or not the SJC’s (unprecedented AFAIK) reluctance to release Kavanaugh-related documentation -except for that carefully-culled 4% - and their BFD hoo-ha over their “Confidential” classification BS was because they knew there was hinky stuff like this lurking in the paperwork?
Which would also explain their rush schedule trying to get Judge Pervo out of committee…

Oh, I’m sure they have 51 votes if they decide to bull this through. They’ll get murdered in November if they do it; the smart thing would be to withdraw the nomination. I don’t know if they’re that smart, and they have to show the RR that they’re doing their damnedest. There’s no good course for them now. They will probably decide that getting creamed with Kavanaugh on the SC is better than getting creamed without.

Franklin Graham does not have his own church. What he did was turn the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, which was a regular 501(c)3 charity that had to issue yearly 990 reports into a church so he could keep all that secret. He’s not the only one who did that; Focus on the Fetus Family did the same. But it’s not a church as you and i would think of it.

No apology needed - I agree with you about trump and what he is doing to the US, let alone the world - I have been under the assumption that the president* has special rules that don’t work for other people - hence the resignations, departures and sackings within his administration & WH staff.

I hope Kavanaugh withdraws to take away a little of that cycle for you.

One of the things I want the Democrats to investigate is Kennedy’s sudden retirement. His announcement was highly unusual considering it came after his next clerks were appointed.

I suspect that you are referencing this:

Did Anthony Kennedy Resign from the Supreme Court to Protect His Son?
The 81-year-old justice’s resignation announcement triggered a spate of conspiracy posts focused on his son’s connections to Donald Trump and Deutsche Bank

Rating: Unproven

“The most coherent form of the conspiracy theory posited that Kennedy’s retirement was a sudden and unexpected event, a strategic move intended to allow Trump to nominate a friendly successor who would vote favorably on any issues involving Justin Kennedy that might come before the court as a result of the ongoing Mueller investigation into Russian election interference (whereas Kennedy would have to recuse himself from such issues if he remained on the bench)”

“It may be true, as outlined above, that members of the Trump administration undertook efforts to “assure Kennedy that his judicial legacy would be in good hands should he step down at the end of the court’s [current] term.” But no substantive evidence yet suggests anything more than that President Trump and other members of his administration might have sought to curry favor with a justice who was already mulling retirement to influence the timing of that event.”

Also:
@LincolnsBible claims that Kennedy was associated with organized crime. Of course, @LincolnsBible seems to make that claim about a huge number of folks.

What I expect to be the Senate GOP line tomorrow is that they can’t keep putting the nomination on hold for ever new “revelation” that comes forward, that they’ve already agreed to listen to Prof. Ford because they consider her allegations the most serious, and they will not be entertaining new hearings unless something more serious comes to light. That it’s not “fair” to Kavanaugh to keep delaying his confirmation vote and the Senate Democrats are in the wrong for not taking such demands through “proper channels.”

Headline of the No 2 story on the WaPo at the minute

Obama White House counsel Gregory Craig under scrutiny by prosecutors in offshoot of Mueller probe

Craig was WH Counsel Jan 2009 until January 2010. Apparently he wanted other roles but was not appointed to same (from Wiki)

What he did appears to be somewhat minor in the scheme of things, he worked on something related to the Ukraine for a short period in 2012.

But the media has to report that someone who once worked for President Obama is under investigation. - Both sides.

“Judge Kavanaugh, can you show us on this calendar what parties you DID go to during the months in question?”

“Oh, there are no parties shown on the calendar? You had no social life?”

“Oh, you didn’t put all of your social life on this calendar? So then the absence of this particular party doesn’t prove you didn’t go there that night, right?”

Jeff Flake is on the judiciary committee; if he votes no, it’s no. And he’s not running for reelection.

Flake weakly speaks against Trump on occasion, but rarely votes against the party line; I suppose it’s possible he’s considering running for Arizona governor at some time in the future. But this New Yorker story gives him a LOT of cover to vote for “c’mon, give us another nominee.” Especially if he wants Cindy and Megan’s support for a hypothetical future governor’s race.

They can pick someone, like Gorsuch, with a sterling personal life but whose judicial philosophy is totally deplorable. You can support evil without any personal skeletons,

Those questions in Avenatti’s email suggest the Dekes were pulling some really dark shit.

If he’s got a client who’s going to claim she was gang raped, the FBI better goddamn well get involved.

The only thing that would make this worse is if the victim reported what happened and Kavanaugh’s mom the assistant DA buried it. And that would not surprise me a bit.

The letter references house parties in the DC area during the early 80s. So it is pre-Dekes more Georgetown prep.

The reason they are backing Kavanaugh now is because Trump will not let them back down. The reason Trump supported him in the first place is his views on presidential privilege. They might be able to find someone else like that, but it could be a lot harder.

Seein’ as the GOP knew about the second accuser last week and only tried to move the vote up so they could get him confirmed anyway… I don’t think Kavanaugh is cooked yet. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if McConnell holds a surprise vote Monday morning, just as a broad fuck-you to the world.

At this point in time with what has come out, that would be as close to political party suicide as can be done today.

Would he try it?

He is Mitch “Fucking” McConnell…never to be trusted.

But damn that would be beyond bold what with all the crazy going on in DC.

It might be enough to get a lot more of America wanting to keep and maybe expand the Mueller investigation. It could go on for another two years. All of the GOP Congress is suspect.

Saw the Michael Moore film today because it was assigned by the leader of our film group for our next meeting. The pro-Bernie segment was mercifully brief; the movie could have been an effective polemic for the November elections; individual segments were often very powerful; but the movie felt uncoordinated. Too bad the message seemed to be:
(1) Republicans are evil and planning on turning us into a fascist dictatorship;
(2) Unfortunately, the Democrats in DC are corporate sellouts
(3) You can vote for Democratic insurgents like AOC, who have no experience but they are exciting.

You know I could almost buy the concern for sons shit if they didn’t use sexual assault as a means of smearing PoC especially Hispanics.
