Take your Federalist Society Cockring off for a second and ask why is Brett Kavanaugh a “good guy” He has done nothing to establish his credibility at all. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you just want him on SCOTUS because he’s one of your own, a pampered white boy who has gotten everything handed to him in life.

Then establish all of the reasons it could not have been him. Show calm credibility. Give people something to point to and say, “He’s a good man. He’s being respectful of her. There is simply no way a man like that did this.”

Trump loves it, because of course he does.

And the NBC panel is getting wobbly and pretty much saying how emotional and heart breaking his testimony is. They are buying it. Of course Megyn Kelly buys it the most. Gutherie is buying the emotion about how this is tearing this man’s life apart.

Andrea Mitchell is about the only one offering any useful points. Lester Holt is just acting as a moderator and keeping his own thoughts pretty much out of the discussion.

Sad to think it, but this may come out the same way it was two weeks ago. A tie needing one or two Senators to go either way.

They are still going to try hard to push him through.

The only hope is politician’s phones lighting up and burning the Republicans.

And women. Women are the key here.

Kavanaugh is pioneering the GOP approach to responding to Dems. If they question you, just stonewall it and you will not suffer any consequences as long as the GOP remains in power — and thanks to gerrymandering and voter suppression abetted by SC decisions, that will be the foreseeable future unless we have a true blue wave that sweeps the GOP out in 2018.

re: #369 Hecuba’s daughter

Kavanaugh is pioneering the GOP approach to responding to Dems. If they question you, just stonewall it and you will not suffer any consequences as long as the GOP remains in power — and thanks to gerrymandering and voter suppression abetted by SC decisions, that will be the foreseeable future unless we have a true blue wave that sweeps the GOP out in 2018.

Wonder how all of this is going over with Flake, Collins, Murkowski.

At a minimum I can’t imagine any red state Dems voting for this guy.

~62 million Americans will totally approve of this because it’s exactly how they’d behave (or would like to - hence their voting for Cheeto Benito’s angry, whiny self-pitying narcissism and trollery).

All you need to ask yourselves is if what we’ve seen today is enough to rouse enough non-voters out of their apathy.

while you are generally right in this case - and mostly wrt to men

It’s all about context. If you’ve reached the level where you’re going before the US Senate for a confirmation hearing, then you should be fine with the FBI conducting an investigation into allegations against you (assuming they are not true). Not knowing Kavanaugh, I have no idea whether he’s an alcoholic. And I am not going to engage in speculation as to whether he still drinks or not, or even how much of his attitude is tied to his drinking. From everything I’ve seen, he comes off as an asshole who should not be a member of the Supreme Court. He also probably needs some counseling, based on the public statements he’s made today. That’s something he needs to come to grips with in his own life. Ultimately, this isn’t about him, it’s about the Court, and he’s shown himself to not be worthy of the Court.

Not sure what you mean (I’m not watching, just following here and via twitter/texts). But generally reasonable doubt is the standard of proof for the prosecution in criminal trials. The defense usually doesn’t need to reach that standard, they typically just have to poke holes in the prosecution’s case - it may apply, in certain circumstances when dealing with affirmative defenses, but I don’t do criminal law so I’m not sure.

Democrats didn’t sit on Dr. Ford’s allegations. They respected her request for confidentiality. Shut up Hatch.

His clerks don’t love him, they love the job, and what it means for their future careers.

Robert Bork didn’t belong on the court. Stop acting like that partisan hack getting rejected was a travesty when your party didn’t even give Merrick Garland a chance to speak, you fuck bucket.

re: #428 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

I’m going to disagree with that one. I’ve never been arrested or charged with anything, but that doesn’t mean that I would want the FBI to come sniffing around if I were falsely accused.

You also are not running for a high office and asking to have the FBI check out an accuser.

You know, occasionally I talk on here about having an abusive, emotionally incontinent dad.

That Kavanaugh mix of self-pity, deflection, and rage is exactly what my father was like when challenged about one of his many, many shady choices and behaviors.

I swear, deadly serious, that everything in the last two years is just the justifications and tactics of domestic abuse, applied on a national scale.

518
MsJ  Sep 27, 2018 • 2:36:16pm

Turned on the hearing now that I am out of my meeting to see Hatch lose his shit. Damn.

Notice that the Republicans have now abandoned Mitchell and are now roaring in defense of Kavanaugh.

Pretty telling that only Ford got the full prosecutor treatment.

not lost on anybody with an engaged brain

Pretty telling that Republicans couldn’t control their rage enough to question Dr. Ford themselves. They knew what it would have looked like for them to be shouting accusations at Dr. Ford on camera.
