Mr. Kurd. Mr. Black. Mr. Jew. Mr. Chinaman.

Etc., yadda yadda yadda.

And today was a travesty of justice, alright. We’re going to get a travesty of a Justice.

I’d want to look for a silver lining in seeing how it’ll affect the next few election cycles, but I’ve been burned too much by assuming the best in people and situations. Especially when it’s clear that rape culture may just end up becoming all but law (and may well become law outright) with Kavanaugh ascending.

The GOP don’t care. They’ll get their eternal win, and sail to total control because nothing fucking matters except the win and perpetual power.

Not just “commonplace”, but a firmly-established legend of martyrdom: it has always been accepted as a Foundational History of RW judicial meddling that Poor Old Robert Bork was the undeserving victim of an outrageous and unprecedented campaign of “personal vilification” which tragically denied him the SCOTUS seat that was his due as a just reward for a lengthy and illustrious career pioneering “Judicial Originalism”: the purest form of Constitutional interpretation.

Which, stripped of its whiny bullshit, meant simply that Bork was the archetype of the RW “political judge”: a jurist utterly blinkered by a restrictive and inflexible ideology - and who made it abundantly clear that he would be crafting every ruling he made solely on the basis of his ideological prejudices. And indeed, he and his backers felt that that was the main reason he should (as a matter of right) be confirmed.

The national campaign against his confirmation was fairly unprecedented - though that butthurt-generating “vilification” seems to have consisted of just one speech by Ted Kennedy which was a bit over-orated - and the Right have never gotten over the fact that it was successful.

I’m gonna repost this from downstairs where I hit the CL threshold, mainly just because it sums up my thoughts on the matter. (Thoughts, not feelings. My feelings would probably attract official attention.):

It’s just this simple to me: I believed her. I didn’t believe him.

She had no reason to lie. He had every reason to lie.

He’s a Trump nominee and Trump hasn’t dumped or trashed him yet. That’s better than any polygraph. They’re both born to lie.

Most of all, for me, his whole BS story about his drinking and his lack of sexual experience well into his college years rang like a cracked gong.

He and I had a lot in common in high school. We were both jocks, we were both at or near the top of the class academically, and we both drank mucho beer (which I guarantee you means plenty of harder stuff than beer too). The only major difference was that I was twenty years ahead of him, quite a generational gap. I might have barely bought at least some bits of his story if he’d been in high school in the very early sixties, as I was. In the eighties? Fuhgeddabout it.

What happened to Bork is what the Founders intended the system to be. The Senate debated Bork’s merits as a SCOTUS judge and they decided Nope and that included some Republicans too. It’s beyond pathetic that they keep on dragging out his judicial carcass as a victim. Meanwhile we never got to learn about Merrick Garland’s philosophy. His lefty detractors painted him as a mere centrist but we never got to learn about that since McConnell was determined to sink him because Obama had the nerve to appoint him and to replace Scalia to boot.

It would be interesting to see how Roberts votes on these things he’s the guy “leading” the court right now, and he showed some semblance of dignity back when he helped preserve the ACA, it is a slim branch to hold onto but a possible one that he does not want to have his court known for such blatantly naked partisanship.

That or we can place our hopes in a certain lawyer having a few cards left to play over the next few days, something tells me he will not just sit and wait while K gets confirmed.

I think the take away that we all need to have at the moment is that nobody knows fucking anything about what just happened today, the hearings took up the entire day more or less, and outside of our deeply political blogs, we have no idea exactly how this played, even if we can make some guesses.

For the moment the only thing we can really do is wait and see what kind of a knock on effect this will have, what other accusers it shakes loose, what other legal action certain people take to demand a chance to testify and what the public has to say in the wake of these testimonies.

Rebellions are built on hope, and Doctor Ford gave us that if nothing else.

After all, the reason that Republicans want to jam through Kavanaugh’s nomination is that as a member of the Supreme Court he’ll be able to help create the mechanisms that determine which kinds of Americans have rights, protections, autonomy, and power.

By building a court that can reverse precedent—around affirmative action, reproductive autonomy, fair wages, voting and collective bargaining—Republicans believe that they can push back the populations that threaten the dominance of the white patriarchy. The right kind of court, so to speak, could turn back social movements that have succeeded to the point that old white men like Orrin Hatch can’t just ignore the Anita Hills and Christine Blasey Fords and Kamala Harrises and Mazie Hironos. To regain the court is to regain the power, to perhaps build a future in which powerful white men do not have to put up with all this kind of stuff anymore.

It’s like when do we ever learn? After Dr. Ford, I’m thinking about Anita Hill tonight too and how RW revisionist history makes her a liar and Thomas innocent. And although the problems with Bork were ideological not personal, he too is seen as a wronged person. But meanwhile actual victims are painted as money hungry while their perps get powerful men and women to pat them and reassure them it’s okay. These Senators insist that Kavanaugh deserves his due process but all enable a man who called for the execution of 5 teenagers accused of rape. The double standards are real here and I’m sure women and PoC not only see it and witness it more than I do, but live it. And we White American Males are so caught up with the culture of white males as the real victims that we never think about how so much of our existence is a given. Of course the President is a white guy or if you get into sports, of course the QB or coach should be white or pop culture, of course Santa is white. That’s the real identity politics when you’re convinced that you can’t accept a person in a position of importance not being like you.

Right now, if he is truly set to vote “Aye” for Kavanaugh’s confirmation even after today’s shitshow, I’d say that moment is right fucking now.

I have opinions as a Democrat, historian, citizen. After what I saw today—as a father of two young girls—I regard the GOP as a terrifying threat to my family: a party that believes men are entitled to unbridled dominion over women. Real men need to step up in November.

9:21 PM - Sep 27, 2018 * Hoboken, NJ

Unfortunately most white men are totally on board with this: they see Kavanaugh as the exemplar of appropriate behavior and the ill that happens if women think they deserve equal rights. Nothing good will come of this.

Voting for ACA won’t mean crap if Kavanaugh votes to overturn it. I’ve sort of mellowed on him a little but I’m sorry but how could anyone watch Kavanaugh do that to a colleague especially one in your party who you’re probably on good social terms with and think “Yeah this guy should still be considered for SCOTUS.” I understand he’s in a little bit of a bind because WV but this is the moment we need all 49 Dems united.

I don’t think Manchin is that smart. He knows his state granted but he doesn’t know how to sell that. West Virginians like many in this country are fuck you, I got mine types. Here’s what scares me. Some Republican politician is going to look at Trump and look at what’s worked and what hasn’t. Trump as bad he is has also made a lot of fuck ups that allow us to be in the position we’re in to possibly retake Congress. I meant on a larger level but you are right, an out Nazi running for Congress is no small matter and yeah the feckless Republican governor couldn’t even endorse the Dem who is as conservative as a Dem gets that the guy is running against. When David Duke ran for office about a quarter century ago in Louisiana for Senate, a lot of prominent Republicans endorsed his Dem opponent. That wouldn’t happen now and in fact, we’d see Trump in Louisiana telling us how “David is tough on the borders, great for the 2nd amendment and our veterans.”

According to Crokin, all the globalist pedophiles are hoping that, after all the mass arrests of those involved in the pizzagating, they will be tried in regular court, where they might get off on a technicality. ‘Naugh appears to be an Opus Dei Catholic out of guilt and shame. A true believer for his past sins. In other words, a fanatic. But he continues to sin. He brazenly lies. He does not confess past sins, whether venal (drunkedness), or mortal, like attempted rape (thy shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods), or bearing false witness (whenever he opens his mouth). And don’t get me started about his gambling debts disguised as “baseball ticket” purchases.

In other words, he’s a really rotten Catholic, much less an Opus Dei Catholic (my sister is one, don’t get me started). There’s a reason the Jebbies dumped him today. He is not what he presents himself to be. He’s a lying piece of shit and even the Catholic hierarchy in the US recognizes it.

BUT, that aligns him with Drumpf and the Republican Senate. They’re all asshole buddies on this! He’s their perfect SCOTUS candidate. He’s also the perfect Koch candidate. He’ll protect Drumpf, he’ll protect Citizens United, he’ll vote to gut the New Deal, 60’s and more modern programs, and he’ll do it for thirty years. Adios, Social Security, the ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, the Voting Rights Act, and Obergefell. Not to mention Roe.

Just like he tried to yank off Ford’s one-piece bathing suit and fuck her, he’s going to vote to yank the social safety net out from under us and fuck 99% of the US population. He’s a disease literally 25 years in the making, since Newt’s Contract For (On) America, writ large and in our faces. He’s our worst nightmare

And Drumpf’s base is going to support that. Register. Vote the fuckers out of office. Take back the country. These are not our values.

Stupid. Fucking. White. People.
