They all need to vote, but then again, 35% participation from that group would be relatively defined as massive.

Reading the wikipedia article on Jamal Khashoggi, and there is a major point of tension that Congress will need to understand it’s role in: This happening in Turkey (yes, I know, the embassy is Saudi, but he was on Turkish soil until he entered) pits a NATO member against Trump’s favorite Middle Eastern country/business partner.

Also puts him in a quandary:

Which dictator to support? The Turk or the Saudi?

From Kanye’s Wiki page:

West’s mother, Dr. Donda C. (Williams) West,[13] was a professor of English at Clark Atlanta University, and the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University, before retiring to serve as his manager. West was raised in a middle-class background, attending Polaris High School[14] in suburban Oak Lawn, Illinois, after living in Chicago.[15] At the age of 10, West moved with his mother to Nanjing, China, where she was teaching at Nanjing University as part of an exchange program. According to his mother, West was the only foreigner in his class, but settled in well and quickly picked up the language, although he has since forgotten most of it.[16] When asked about his grades in high school, West replied, “I got A’s and B’s. And I’m not even frontin’.”[17]

That looks a lot like High Island, after Ike. It was a Cat 4/5 storm as it blew over Cuba and got back up to a Cat 4 at is it transited the Gulf to the west. It weakened, because of some wind shear and cooler water temperatures as it approached the Texas coast to a strong 2/3, but it brought a 4/5 storm surge into the Texas coast. The devastation was tremendous.

I was on the Strike Team that responded. Five days of hell. Every chemical vessel ripped out of a chemical complex and tossed by the storm surge was suspect, and very often the Hazard Placards had been ripped off. We were using binoculars to see if we could identify the vessels (always from up wind) which was fortunate. Most people don’t know that hydrogen cyanide is used as a feedstock.

We are lucky we didn’t have anyone killed from a toxic gas release into which we randomly encountered.

And I’m off to bed. I’d like to say sweet dreams, but I’ll settle for quiet dreams.

The shit is getting real, and a good night’s sleep is going to be less and less what we will experience until this election is over.

Trump’s in trouble, as even State TV is abandoning him.

Trump, no longer ratings gold, loses his prime-time spot on Fox News (Politico)

The headline buries the lede, something that shouldn’t be happening:

One senior White House official was unsure why the network would decide to cut away from presidential rallies, saying officials planned “to look into that” and wouldn’t be surprised if White House communications director Bill Shine, a former Fox News executive, was in touch with former colleagues about the trend.

The loss of national coverage is equally, if not more, concerning to the candidates on whose behalf Trump is traveling the country.

“It exposes us to a national audience that we normally don’t get to,” a Senate Republican campaign staffer said of the coverage of Trump rallies. “We tend to see lots of new sign-ups and small-dollar donations. There’s obviously folks streaming [rallies] online, but being able to be onstage with the president in front of a prime-time audience is huge for a campaign trying to reach conservatives across the country who will open up their wallets.”

What person (celebrity, politician, writer, etc) from pre-Twitter days would’ve been an insanely great follow had they been able to tweet?

I recall reading that when Paul McCartney first started getting stoned, he asked his assistant, Mal Evans, to follow him around and write down everything he said so as not to lose any of his deep and poignant insights.

Good that there was no Twitter back then, it is bad enough nowadays with Kanye…

When I played in Atlantic City last month, I was getting ready to check out of my room and I put the TV on, and that stupid show was playing. The contrived situations were bad enough, but the dude’s costume - the feathers in his hair, the chains, the gloves, the paramilitary look of his entire crew - he looked like some old fat dude taking part in Dog the Bounty Hunter cosplay.

Which I guess it pretty much was.

They overwhelm us with outrages. How can we concentrate on solving any when a new one appears daily? That is their secret all along — you cannot fight each problem on its own because there isn’t sufficient time. You stop them from implementing one evil policy and discover an additional dozen have cropped up in the interim while you have been “distracted” fighting your good fight. The only solution is to rid us of this entire administration and their enablers in Congress; anything less, and we are fighting a losing battle.

Although in this case, it occurred under the Obama Admin.

When officially ordered to return Alexa to her mother in December of 2016, the foster parents, Sherri and Kory Barr, sued claiming that she would be abused if returned home. A Michigan judge granted them guardianship.

After pressure from social media and the Salvadoran government for the family to be reunited mounted, the Department of Justice (DOJ) weighed in, saying that “the Barrs obtained their temporary guardianship order in violation of federal law.”

The Barrs’ attorney and the Michigan judge were also found to have violated federal law by not notifying Alexa or her mother about the guardianship proceedings.

In a statement to The Hill, a DHS spokeswoman said that all of the cases the AP reviewed came under the Obama administration, emphasizing that all of the adoptions were done legally.

Where do you find these dipwads? No it’s not discriminatory you chowderhead, it’s the default assumption. Is he going to come out as Christian next? It’s pretty rare that people in the USA come out as “American” as well … something something hetero relationships are the majority.

A bit of a family issue over that, behind the hide bar, describing stereotypes in society causing damage.

Because I was career Navy and straight and married with a child, my sister when she decided to come out to my family made the assumption that career military meant I would condemn her, and for years she wouldn’t speak to me (she assumed I would reject her so she preëmptively rejected me first).

Turns out the career military guy, her military mother, and her military step-father were the only people who supported her. The whole rest of my family rejected her because their interpretation of their religious faith demanded that of them (United Methodists and Lutherans).

Because of the societal stereotypes of what it means to be a “Christian” (accepting/loving) versus career military (conservative), she wound up cutting off the only people who supported her.

It took a long time to straighten that out, almost twenty years.

A Gish Gallop of executive orders and policy implementations.

Gish Gallops can be overcome, even with this maladministration.

First, everyone doesn’t have to focus on one aspect of the avalanche of BS. Numbers of groups are dividing up the pile and attacking them separately. Note each of the worst policy implementations (the Muslim ban, &c) has been thwarted by various means.

Second, the important part of all this misdirection (the apparent rampant criminality) is being rolled up by professionals (Robert Mueller, New York’s AG, &c)

Third, folks are working very hard at reversing the damage in the next election by getting out the vote, supporting candidates, &c. People like Beto O’Rourke or Stacey Abrams are gaining precisely because people are fed up with the crap. All the special elections which have flipped to the Democrats are also a reflection of that. The funny thing is, though, we do come out as hetrosexual… it’s just not an ordeal, because as you say, it’s the norm. But things like having a significant other of the other sex, holding hands, public displays of affection… hell, just admitting a crush (celebrity or local) is in essence, coming out.

Everyone goes through the process of understanding their sexuality. It has just been much easier, historically, for certain people to come out because of the overriding societal norms and expectations.

I’ve long said that Andee is the best rock guitarist in New York City (he laughs, but it’s true). KMFDM is his new gig, along with the touring guitarist slot with Peter Murphy when Murph goes on the road. I’m so proud of Andee. He deserves to be world famous, and he may get there yet.

In the first Jurassic Park novels and movies, all dinosaurs in Jurassic Park are female, because for safety reasons the dinosaurs shouldn’t be able to reproduce if they escaped into the wild.

Suck it libs, whatcha gonna do about it?

If seizing children and violating the Voting Rights Act in Texas and preventing registrations in Georgia and appointing Brett Kavanaugh without a proper background check wouldn’t stop them despite massive protest, why would that?

And on the issue of the campaign guy arrested in Waller County, Texas for the crime of “delivering letter while Democrat,” that is a real chilling bucket of water on the “civility” the media keeps saying the left needs to use.

That is intimidating political opponents. Arresting a political opponent for being a member of the opposition party smacks of every authoritarian regime in modern history.

It’s Time for Chuck Schumer to Go

Goddamn right!

No matter what happens on Election Day, Chuck Schumer should be out as the Democratic leader in the Senate. On Thursday, he cut another ridiculous deal with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. In exchange for an adjournment until after the election, so his members up for re-election could go home and campaign, Schumer agreed to fast-track 15 more Trump appointees to the federal courts, further guaranteeing that the cancer of this administration* will metastasize over decades until a lot of us are dead, and until a lot of us won’t be able to remember what the American government looked like before this president* was elected.

Schumer cut a similar deal last August, so everyone could go to the damn beach. Now, in the wake of a confirmation spectacle in which the nominee was by turns truculent and hopelessly dishonest, Schumer surrenders to the blackmail again?

No. Enough. For the love of god, go.

Seriously, I think you have to go back to Reagan in ‘76 as the last major party candidate (not even nominee) to fight releasing tax returns. Reagan eventually relented, and released his tax returns that year and in subsequent runs. It’s just standard operating procedure, anyone who is even considering running for office has to know they need their tax returns in order.

Is there an appetite among Democratic Senators to kick him out of the leadership position? Just heard today that Democratic Senators for the most part are okay with Schumer. I can’t stand him and hope that he is voted out for someone with a backbone. Kamala Harris, Cory Booker or Mazie Hirono would be great leaders who could take on McConnell instead of acquiescing to his demands.

What helped me overcome that was working with a fellow back when I lived in the US - and he was a good guy; one of the best. He’d give you the shirt off his back to help you and he had a wicked sense of humor.
