I am dreaming that the voters raise up Tuesday and decisively reject fascism by not only giving the Democrats a big majority in the House, but a Senate majority as well. I know its unlikely, but I can dream, can’t I? In the meantime, I’ll be canvassing for Amy McGrath Sunday and Monday.

I have been watching the crazies fall out of the Trumpian GOP closet this year, and between that and the realization that this election boils down to a referendum on white supremacy, and this passage from “Forbidden Planet” popped into my head, regarding election day in 2016…

Pelosi has suggested that she’d be more of a ‘transitional’ speaker. That’s cool. She can take the gavel, lead for a few months, turn it over. She and Hoyer should move out of the way for others, and the leadership should better represent the Democratic Party electorate.

Unknown to this point; so far it doesn’t look like she actually exists.
I’m sort of surprised, the LA Times and OC Register (with a very libertarian bent on their editorial page) are pretty well aligned on the statewide endorsements. They agree on 5 of 8 statewide offices, with the Register endorsing incumbent Democrats over challenging Republicans. Though they do go the opposite way on all but one ballot initiative (there’s 11 this year, and the Register hasn’t weighed in on three of them yet).

The composites (Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P) are up, but all by less than 2%. Not sure I’d call those big gains. Starbucks is up almost 10% in after hours trading but that’s tied to their quarterly earnings report. A lot of companies had quarterly reports released today, and that usually spurs activity.

If I’m reading this right, we have to get out and vote on January 18, 1970.

Washington state Representative Matt Shea has taken credit of a manifesto of sorts titled “Biblical Basis for War” that outlines a coming holy war, a battle that would require killing any non-Christian who does not “yield.”
The document, which Shea apparently hands out to some folks, was leaked online and on Wednesday the Republican politician took credit for it.
The manifesto lays out the rules of the coming holy war—a war that would be revealed by God—as well as numerous other rules and laws in bullet points.

I’m starting to wonder if making huge amounts of money fast and easily leads to some kind of mental illness. They begin to think they are superhuman and all sense of balance and morals seem to go out the window when the arrogance enters.

Yes. Yes it does.
Trump says he has told US officers at the border that, if migrants throw rocks, “Consider it a rifle.” He’s saying, obviously, that he wants rock-throwers shot.

The term that is emerging is the “mythologization of American capitalists”.
As you know, I long warn of the worldview collapse that is going on.
One thing that is happening, I propose, is that people whose traditional religion has fallen are looking for substitutes.
And some weird shit is popping up as the substitutes.
Everything is reality tv.
This is a remarkable story out of beloved New Orleans. Power company hires actors to attend public meetings and pretend to support its new power plant. Denies it. Gets caught red handed. City now fining them $millions.https://t.co/USviwZbKw9

re: #172 jaunte
Why is Trump talking about stone-throwing migrants in the first place? I don’t recall any incidents of violent migrants forcing themselves into this country. It’s amazing what Trump will do to rally his racist base.

This is happening all over the country to one degree or another. There is a virtual guerrilla army forming under the protective camouflage of fanatic churches.
Fake but funny.

Maybe it’s just that Oprah recognizes Brian Kemp as a classic southern vote-suppressing troglodyte, and decided she would try to level the field for the sake of the disenfranchised?

Mattis was also on the Board of the fraudulent blood testing company, Theranos. So it appears that he is as corrupt as any other Trump official, as well as being complicit in Trump’s authoritarianism.

I can understand the impulse to claim you’re a serious, life and death DoD, but “we don’t do stunts” is a little too far. NFL flyovers, anyone?

Yeah. People keep sending it too me and wanting my opinion. And, why yes, we do have these $%^&*@##$!! nutballs in the USA who would take over and turn the USA into their own personal version of Gilead if they had the opportunity. They’re worth keeping an eye on.

Right move, and good for the Greens this time… but jesus, how many early votes are already in, and why wait until the last weekend to do this if you’re serious about it?
At least in a parliamentary system, she’d be able to throw Sinema her support no matter how many votes she ends up getting.

Isn’t that sort of the plot of the show American Gods? The Old Gods (folklore types) are losing power because people don’t believe in them anymore and the New Gods (Technology and Media) are gaining strength?
