This is a cool jam, and a pretty hilarious video when Cory begins to wander. It actually looks like he’s playing all that stuff too but I’m skeptical because do they have wireless systems with that kind of insane range now?

If any Lizards are maybe thinking about taking a ski vacation in Colorado I recommend you stay away from the ski areas on the I-70 corridor. Go to Crested Butte. Go to Steamboat. Hell, come to the ski area I work at, Sunlight Mountain, where you can ski then soak in hot springs!

LOL if I wanted to take a vacation in Colorado it wouldn’t be for skiing!

But hey why should I even go to Colorado when Canada is so much closer?

Yah, but Justin isn’t that committed. It takes a lot of guts to kill a foreigner and hack off his hands and feet and mail them off to both major political parties in Canada.

He’s a wussy, and not nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

Less than seventy two hours until we learn the results of the mid-terms, and I’m pretty jazzed about the early turnout. Beto might eke it out. Probably not, but he’s making Rafael sweat. If Latinos *finally* actually vote, it could happen (we’ve been waiting for the Latino vote to actually happen in Texas for about a century).

re: #126 austin_blue

If Latinos turned out to vote in large numbers, I think it’s not entirely unfair to say the GOP would be consigned to electoral oblivion in TX.

Eventually, yes, TX will turn blue - it’s the GOP’s worst nightmare, because once that happens, they’re going to find it damned difficult to be competitive at the national level.

I’ve said before that eventually, the GOP will be a nativist/white nationalist/white supremacist political party, pretty much confined to the Deep South and the intermountain West, with some pockets of support in places like Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon and rural areas of otherwise blue states.

An oopsie from the guilty:

Leave.EU tycoon Arron Banks: Britain should have voted Remain instead of unleashing demons of Brexit

But…

[…] Mr Banks came out fighting today in an interview for the BBC Andrew Marr show, in which he said he would have preferred to avoid the bitterly-fought fallout from the Brexit vote.

“The corruption I’ve seen in British politics - the sewer that exists and the disgraceful behaviour of the Government over what they are doing with Brexit and how they are selling it out - means that if I had my time again I think it would have been better to have probably remained and not unleash these demons,” he said.

He insisted he followed all the rules in seconding his insurance staff to work for leave.eu and said he had informed the Electoral Commission of the arrangement.

And he insisted he was “of course” the source of all the cash he spent on the Leave drive, although questions remain over which parts of his business empire the money was generated from.

“There was no Russian money or interference of any type, I just want to be absolutely clear about that,” he said.

[…]

He is like Trump, but uses more coherent sentences.

i read that NYMAG article about why young people don’t vote

yes some of those answers were truly lame

then i read the slate article explaining how some of those answers werent really so lame

and im calling bullshit
it boils down to this:

- id rather lose my health insurance than google “stamps.com
- id rather lose access to abortion than take the time to register to vote and check my status periodically
- im ok with the government separating kids from their parents, putting them in “cages” because learning about candidates takes time
- id rather the two parties continue to do things that dont represent me and my ideals. why should i get involved to try and tell them how i feel?

yes, being a citizen takes some time.
staying informed takes a little planning and time. (tv ads and mailers are the worst place to get accurate information no matter who they’re from).

actual voting does take a little time - less if you can mail it in (oh that stamp thing again)

yeah. people actually said these things and i dont think these are the real reasons.
if you can manager twitter, facebook, snapchat, instagram and 3 other apps simultaneously for 8 or more hours a day, you can google “where do i get stamps” or “what’s a postmark” early enough in the process.

no, i dont think young people are lazy.
i think their answers were lazy.

Speaking of voting, looking at the latest report for San Diego county registrations, as of 1 Nov there was a 37k increase in one month!

As is the current trend, the “undeclared” increased the most, by 18k.

The Democratic party increased by 12.6k.

The Republican party was able to stem their losses and posted a gain, but only increased by 3k.

So the Democratic party is growing at 4x the rate of the Republicans last month, in the biggest push of the election cycle. We should note though that the Republican party has in previous months registered declines, and in new registrations make up much less than 10% of the new voters.

Midterm elections 2018: Some Georgia voters get racist, anti-Semitic robocalls

Some Georgia voters say they’ve received a disturbing robocall in the last week ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections that is racist and anti-Semitic.

WSB-TV’s Rikki Klaus obtained the message, which claims to be from Oprah Winfrey (but obviously is not) and references Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

The message uses racist, anti-Semitic and other offensive language to describe Winfrey, Abrams and their supporters. The caller says a website called theroadtopower.com paid for the message.

Klaus spoke to WSB-TV political analyst Bill Crane about who is behind the disturbing message and whether it is legal.

“The Road to Power is a national white supremacist organization that’s had a blog on with the same name for about six months,” Crane said.

I don’t believe the Russians can register imaginary voters. And if they did, then what? Cast imaginary votes for them? No. They can kick Democratic voters off the rolls and flip a few votes in a few, well-chosen close races, like they did in 2016, but they have to make it look halfway believable.

Two of the juiciest headlines going are “Democrats in Disarray” followed by “Democrats Veer Hard left”.

Dozens of dem hopefuls who couldn’t otherwise win…
And really really want to be in power
Are asking the oldsters to help them skew the game in their favor
To ‘give them a chance’ that they couldn’t earn on their own

By stepping aside and not running
Cause if they did, they’d win

[Inserting I Am Not A Theologian disclaimer HERE]

Not that my knowledge of the issue extends further than the occasional perusal of a Wikipedia Article-Of-The-Day bio of some early-day churchman or other; but it seems to me that even on a cursory examination, “highly developed belly-button lint classifying” regarding the exact nature of “God” and “Jesus” and their relationship was precisely what forming the theology and dogma of early Christianity was about. And determining what beliefs were “orthodoxy” vs. “heresy” often/usually depended on consensus by the Church on what (at least to me) consist of extraordinarily abstruse points of doctrine. Abstruse, that is, until some Authority or other decided to enforce “orthodox” beliefs at swordpoint…

Mid-air plane crash in Ottawa’s west end | CTV Ottawa News

Ottawa Police say there has been a mid-air collision between two planes in the city’s west end Sunday morning.

After the collision, police say the smaller plane crashed into a field in the area of McGee Side Road, the other was redirected to the Ottawa International Airport. The airport confirmed that plane landed safely.

It’s not known what types of aircraft were involved.

There are believed to be serious injuries.

Witnesses told CTV’s Mike Arsalides the occupants of the plane that landed at the Ottawa Airport were a father and son.

Ottawa Paramedics referred all questions to the Carp Airport. The Carp Airport said it had no details.

If you see it as your “Christian duty” to “protect unborn life” then make it your duty to help the mother bearing the child decide to keep it and raise it and offer them the financial and moral assistance they need.

If, however, your sense of “Christian duty” is limited to shaming and shouting at women seeking abortion counselling or banning access to it altogether, then I see your sense of duty as highly misguided.

I know you’re being sarcastic, but as someone who was born in 1971 in the UK, terrorism for me meant the The Troubles and the Provisional IRA and their offshoots, and as someone brought up as Catholic, with Irish ancestry, that also translated into predujice against people like me, both direct and indirect. They’re outside those clinics precisely because it involves heaping shit on frightened women and not looking at the situation in any other perspective (that might prompt self-reflection or self-critique).

Here in America we think of WWI ending on the 11th of November. Elsewhere, the guns slowly fell silent at differing times.

Title of the Hungarian soldiers’ song: Somogyi katonadal (Soldiers’ song from Somogy county)
Remembering the end of the 1st World War for the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. On the 3rd November 1918 an armistice was signed between the Entente Powers and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in Padova to cease all hostile activities on the 4th November - exactly 100 years ago. The song you will hear will not tell about bravery or heroism. It will tell about the sacrifices and suffering of the ones who remained at home, waiting for the husband, fiancé, father, son, grandson, friend to never return. This song is not about nationalism, it is simply about the universal pain of missing somebody who will never come home again, felt the same way in each corner of the World. Let them rest in peace.

I knew a woman who used to participate in clinic protests. One day at a protest, as she watched a woman walk the gauntlet, she realized that the woman was obviously in a desperate situation (dirty torn clothes, worn shoes, etc.) and suggested to several of the protesters that perhaps what the woman needed was some help and support, rather than harassment. My friend had an epiphany when several of the protesters refused to even consider the idea. She was particularly struck by the outright dismissal of the idea from several clearly well-to-do protesters (who came to the protests in expensive cars, etc.).

That was the last protest she attended. She remained strongly “pro-life”, but demonstrated the sincerity of her beliefs by adopting a black “crack” baby that no one wanted. And she worked hard to raise him as best she could, including attending a predominately black church to build a support structure for the child, understanding that he would face issues she couldn’t understand.

Although I disagreed with her position, I have nothing but respect for her, as she truly lived according to her beliefs. And the last I heard, the child (now a middle schooler) was doing well and was happy.

My friend’s Christian witness was far more effective and Christ-like than any of the clinic protesters.

I had a Shure wireless system (why?) in the late 80s. I couldn’t begin to tell you the model number or anything like that. It had a usable range of about 50 yards between the transmitter and the receiver. In retrospect, that seems like a lot.

One of the things I liked about it was that it (unintentionally) imparted just the tiniest bit of overdrive. Just enough to put a slightly toothy edge on your sound.

The bad thing about about it was that if you rolled down your main volume knob it would be ok for a bit, but would suddenly get completely muffled and muddy. But if you wanted to rock someone like a hurricane, it was pretty decent.

NAnd the minute the child is born you don’t care if it has no access to decent health care. You don’t care if children are molested, beaten, bullied or neglected

Or caged

re: #287 A Cranky One

As sting and the police said:

Do do do
Good deeds deeds deeds
Is all I want to say to you

He talks big on Twitter because no one will call him out to his face but he’s quiet as hell when he actually has to face people.

Some contrast.
In 2014 the last day of early voting saw ~9,000 ballots cast
As of right now, over 5,000 ballots have been cast today (up to 209,634 now). Churches pretty much just getting out. Over five and a half hours of voting left

Now about 300 and change short of 10,000 ballots cast today. just under three hours of early voting remaining

re: #279 Alephnaught

I know you’re being sarcastic, but as someone who was born in 1971 in the UK, terrorism for me meant the The Troubles and the Provisional IRA and their offshoots, and as someone brought up as Catholic, with Irish ancestry, that also translated into predujice against people like me, both direct and indirect. So I really have no time whatsoever for people who think of terrorism as if it were just a Muslim and/or foreign thing.

As an American young person in the years before the SDS or PLO, terrorism to me meant Puerto Ricans. FALN did bombings, hijackings, once they brought automatic weapons into the gallery at the House and shot up the floor (they’re the reason for metal detectors at the Capitol). Somewhat before my time, they’d tried to assassinate Harry Truman and one of his bodyguards died shielding him from the gunfire.

Call it racial profiling if you like, but… that looks to me like a line full of Democrats.
