Brett Kavanaugh’s College Drinking Buddy Cleaning Up on “Ex-Gay” Crowdfunding Site

Wingnuts • Views: 28,936

Now that many of the most popular “crowdfunding” sites for far right and neo-Nazi causes have been cut off by their payment providers, where can a right wing propagandist go to cash in on some sudden freak celebrity?

Well, if you’re Mark Judge, who was never called to testify publicly at Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing by a gutless and conniving Republican Party, you can still fund the grift by going to Funding Morality, a site set up by an “ex-gay” group now operating under the name “Jewish Institute for Global Awareness (JIFGA).” Their previous organization “JONAH” was shut down by a court order in 2015 when they lost a fraud lawsuit filed by the Southern Poverty Law Center, and they’ve apparently simply re-formed with a new name.

So far, Mark Judge has raised well over $100,000 through this site. Wingnut welfare is still very much a thing.

From the website of the allegedly “Jewish” institute:

Funding Morality, a project of JIFGA, a not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, began as a result of the denial by other “crowd funding” platforms to profile persons of faith who would not compromise their moral and biblical convictions and in turn have been persecuted by those who are intolerant of a Judeo-Christian worldview…

Considerable emphasis on “Judeo-Christian” notions (a term I only ever see being used by Christian folks, mostly on the right side of the political spectrum), and a heavier emphasis on “Biblical law” according to “The Seven Noahide Commandments.”

Now I’m no expert, but last I checked, those Noahide Commandants were primarily about core rules that Goys are expected to adhere to - not Jews themselves (who have a different set).

So, anyone else find it mighty suspicious that a “Jewish” organization seems to be promoting non-Jewish tenants to adhere to?

As an outsider to the US election system, this is the most puzzling aspect I find. Why is a state holiday not declared for elections?

Besides the obvious reasons (the powers that be don’t like others voting).

IMO, outdated tradition and idiotic adherence to outdated tradition.

As I posted a few days ago, Israel had municipal elections last week and made it into a holiday for the first time, as a test to see if that would boost the relatively low voter turnout.
The result was about what you would expect - nearly 20% higher voter turnout at a national level.
Needless to say, they’re sticking to the concept for the next time.
We should SO follow suit.

The Ghost of a Flea  Nov 4, 2018 • 1:51:06pm

From the SPLC article about the successful suit against JONAH:

Testimony at the trial revealed the JONAH program’s bizarre and abusive techniques, which included instructing men to undress and instructing one plaintiff to touch his genitals in a private counseling session. JONAH orchestrated violent role-play exercises, encouraging clients to beat effigies of their mothers, who were sometimes blamed for their sons’ homosexuality. Male counselors advocated “healthy touch” sessions that included prolonged cuddling. JONAH’s tactics alienated some clients from their families and caused them to blame themselves or family members for their sexual orientation.

On one side, this kind of crowdfunding setup looks exactly like every other “conservative” grift, of which there are many, and for good reason.

But read that passage about JONAH again. Built into the therapy is sexual predator behavior—both contact and sexual performance against consent presented as “treatment”—and many, many other “gay cure” clinics and practitioners have had abuse scandals. Rock bottom, these are not people who care about helping gays be straight and thus “healthy,” because they literally will not listen to both practitioners (such as Warren Throckmorton) and subjects saying explicitly that the treatment hurt rather than helped. This mirrors how “pro-life” policies tends to make shit worse for women in general and not address the specific problem, and how “abstinence” policies etc, etc.

But I want to consider something else, riffing on something I said earlier today. Gays won’t actually disappear or be cured, so they’ll always be a secret gays. Resting sexual purity on the shoulders of young women creates a fallen women that sit on the margins of polite society. This isn’t about helping people, or even a moral stand. It’s about who dictates how everyone fucks, and what kind of fucking you’re allowed to get away with. They want a demimonde.

Early voting has eased some of the access issues and the only people getting off to vote if it were a holiday would be government people and the GOP would never go along with that.
The retail stores wouldn’t close, or the convenience stores, hospitals, restaurants or construction sites. The folks who I would think have a hard time getting to the polls would probably not get the day off.

My thoughts exactly. There are a lot of holidays that most people don’t get off - MLK day, Presidents’ Day, Veterans Day… and even the big holidays (Christmas, New Years, thanksgiving, Independence Day) see plenty of people working at least partial days.

I think the absentee for all system that some states have started using might be the wave of the future. Though I do like going in on Election Day to vote

the current R majority is 235 to 193.

The Politico article says the they are predicting 225 seats for the Ds plus or minus 13. So while they could end up with a larger majority than the Rs currently have it isn’t a high probability.

one reason a D majority no matter how slight would be beneficial: Rs in the current House haven’t been on the team; some have their own private grifting agendas and then there are the Liberty Caucus and Freedom Caucus who can’t get along with anyone.

So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Daylight Savings/Standard Time really sucks the way it’s timed these days.

It’s 17:55 ET, and already pitch dark. OK, I’m in Manhattan: not really “pitch” by a long shot, but it IS dark….

I don’t mind the days getting shorter in the winter (it’s *Nature*, after all), but chopping the day off in early November just makes things worse.

We either need to go back to the old way or just get rid of it. Though interestingly we’ve got a ballot iniative in California that would have us on permanent daylight savings time if congress allowed it.

Since we’re on the subject, China makes some decent fountain pens that are quite affordable. I’ve received two as gifts, a Hero and a Duke. Both draw bottled ink up from the nib. Trouble is, I don’t use them enough and they keep getting clogged with dried out ink.

Even the robotically generated suggestion is nonsense. Building/construction in California is currently robust enough to be pushing up wages for those in the industry.

Almost all the cost of housing in California comes down to land prices, not lack of construction.

And simply putting out more building permits simply drives up the cost of land.

Land here is expensive because so many people want to live here. Period.

Yup.
You can make a case for high density housing since you’d have more people per unit of land, and there are a bunch of suggestions that high density housing should be located near transit, but if the transit doesn’t run frequently, doesn’t go where you need to, and doesn’t connect with anything else, you can be as close to transit as you want and you still won’t be able to use it.

I really like the fountain pens, but if you don’t use them regularly they clog up. Gel pens work all the time, as long as there’s ink in the tube — which you can see. Not as elegant as a fountain pen, but arguably more useful for someone who is not chained to a desk.

High density housing strains all municipal services: natural gas, water, sewer, electricity, garbage collection, schools, transportation, traffic control and the ever popular parking. Throwing up buildings with no plan for the required infrastructure creates more problems than it solves. China has some experience in this matter. It encouraged rural residents to come to the cities for work, but made no plans for housing their families or educating their children. So, migrant workers leave their kids and spouses behind and maybe get to come home once or twice a year. The rapidly expanding national rail network is at least making transportation quicker and more efficient.
