We’re back to this bulkshit?

Again?

The F-35 isn’t a superplane. It’s a compromised plane that’s overbudget, isn’t fully capable for the missions it’s designed to do, and can’t replace the planes it’s replacing for all missions.

And the F-22 is even more expensive.

Trump doesn’t know or care about any of that. He’s just riffing on random things he hears or reads on Twitter.

I appreciate the many Republicans that supported Civil Rights legislation in the 60’s but the GOP showed that it wasn’t an important issue to them when they nominated Goldwater in ‘64. And it’s really been down hlil ever since. I’ll give Nixon in 1960 credit, he was decent on the issue and quite honestly the most decent on the issue in years for a Republican candidate but he got butthurt that so many prominent African-Americans supported Kennedy over him and that’s actually part of why we have the Southern Strategy.

Trump voters are too stupid to realize the change in parties. My brother — who should know better — tried to discuss one of Dinesh’s movies from a few years ago. He said that it pointed out Al Gore’s father voted against the 1964 CRA. And I pointed out that was over 50 years ago — before the great political realignment. In any case, it had nothing to do with Al Gore’s voting record. But my brother still seems to believe that the Dems are the real racists. There is something in the Texas drinking water that turns previously somewhat same people into raving GOP lunatics.

Al Gore’s father also didn’t sign the Southern Manifesto. Strom Thurmond against the CRA 1964 and had a then Republican Majority Leader say it would have been better off had he won in 1948 and we wouldn’t have had all “these problems.” Not Dewey but Thurmond, a man who ran a blatantly white supremacist campaign.

They want to call themselves the Party Of Lincoln, while believing Lincoln was a tyrant who unconstitutionally attacked the states who seceded, which they only did to prove the entirely academic point that they could - nothing to do with slavery! Except they were Democrats, so they totally were all about slavery, and we should leave all the monuments to them up, because they were all about freedom.

Or something….

They want to accuse us of destroying “southern heritage” while at the same time claiming the CSA cause was ours. I’ll gladly admit much of the Democratic Party’s history until FDR was pretty bad all and all and even during FDR it was pretty bad. The Democratic Party started becoming what it is now in the 60’s which is consequently when a lot of the White Southerners started leaving it on a national level.

I’ll let Dinesh in another secret about Southern Dems throughout the ages though. They were staunch conservatives. They opposed hallmarks of liberalism like the New Deal, Fair Deal, and Great Society especially the latter since it supported African-Americans. They also were staunchly anti-union. As you all know, my father’s father worked for the NLRB. I have an article from the mid 60’s where he’s quoted frequently explaining that unionization was at a slower rate in the Southern states versus the Northern states.

I actually find the evolution of parties fascinating so it’s something I’ve read quite a bit on which is why it’s easy for me to immediately refute this shit when D’Sousa, Kirk, or whatever intellectual lightweight posts it. The pathetic thing about Dinesh is he wants to hold modern Democrats responsible for the 1860’s, an event in which no one living was alive for or even parents most likely but people like him also want us to ignore the race baiting shit that Reagan did. Nixon started it with the Southern Strategy but Reagan perfected it.

It is especially irritating for a man to suggest that a woman has to spend a fortune to look elegant or professional. As others here have pointed out, it is possible to acquire a professional wardrobe without spending big money. It’s a lot cheaper if you avoid name brands especially if you purchase items that are selling at deep discount because they are prior year styles.

The most annoying shit I see AOC’s way is about her economic views. The whole “Stupid girl you don’t understand capitalism.” Except she does. She may not agree with your vision of capitalism but AOC isn’t someone who just heard “democratic socialism, that sounds kewl”, she’s someone who studied it extensively. Now you can argue whether she’s practical enough but calling her unintelligent is bs.

Noting that the first act of ‘Fiddler’ closes with a scene of an anti-Jewish pogrom and further, the traditional insolubility of irony when mixed with alcohol, I can accept, in theory, this explanation on the offender’s part. It makes some sense.

Venting time: I am tired of those who have problems with powerful women, especially women in politics. It seems that misogyny afflicts men of all races, parties, and ideologies. Nancy deserves the position of Speaker. I really wonder how much the Republicans are involved in trying to unseat her — or if this is an exclusively home-grown insurrection.

Many Caucasians have a problem with the Democratic party because it looks like America, rather than a corporate board room. That may be a hidden subtext for many of those who are working to undermine Pelosi, even those who are Democrats.

WaPo: 63 confirmed dead and 631 people still unaccounted for in California fire aftermath.

And it’s hard to find the missing.

It was her second day searching for victims of the ferocious wildfire that destroyed this city of about 26,000 residents last week, an effort that authorities say has become the largest search operation in California history.

As Bailey shifted her fingers through the rubble, in a subdivision where every house was leveled by flames, the scale of the task facing her and hundreds of other search-and-rescue volunteers began to sink in.

That charred piece of glass. Is it a tooth? The fingernail size piece of stucco. Is it a bone?

“We have never had anything of this magnitude,” said Bailey, 58, whose team had found the remains of two victims the previous day. “I have seen burned bodies before, but never just disintegrated. It’s usually not like this.”

(My dad, OTOH, had a country-western phase me and Mom had to suffer through.) The jokes on Hee-Haw were often corny, and the skits in retrospect predictable, but it was entertaining. And if you didn’t like it, change the channel.

Since the election, Mitchell’s audience of Trump loyalists has only grown. He wears his own loyalty on a finger in the shape of a gold, Super Bowl-size ring. “President Trump” is engraved on top, with “Deplorables” on one side and “Make America Great Again” on the other.

The modern Republican party is full-on anti-democratic. They have been suppressing votes for years, well before Trump was a candidate. The 2000 Florida election was marred by prior widespread purging of voting registers through matching voting records with felon records, and eliminating “matches”, thousands of which were invalid. At least now Florida voted to restore rights to those who have completed their sentences. The GOP knows that cities, which tend blue, take longer to count votes and so it is in GOP interest to place time limits on counting.

There’s a company called Rent the Runway, it’s a clothing subscription service — for $160/month you get an almost unlimited amount of fancy designer dresses, coats, bags, skirts, etc etc. Only half a dozen garments at a time, you have to send something back to get a new thing, but you can dress like a big spender without having to buy stuff. Never wear the same thing twice, and your closet doesn’t get stuffed.

(Lubbock) Man accused of impersonating Homeland Security officer attempts arrest of former city councilman

According to a police report, 48-year-old Donn Wojtowicz has been arrested and charged with impersonating a public servant.

The report says on October 17, 2018, a former Lubbock city councilman, who asked to remain anonymous, was driving to Costco and was on 34th Street when he noticed a vehicle driving erratically on the road. The man driving the vehicle, now identified as Wojtowicz, began yelling at the former councilman from his vehicle. Wojtowicz followed the victim to the Costco parking lot, according to the police report.

The report says Wojtowicz got out of his vehicle and walked to the former city councilman’s vehicle. The victim stayed inside his vehicle, but Wojtowicz began yelling that he is from homeland security and that the victim was under arrest. He also told the former councilman he needed to take him to the court house. The victim stayed inside his vehicle and called 911 while Wojtowicz continued to yell, “you’re under arrest.”

Wojtowicz left the area, but not before his license plate was written down.

Our own Klys also I have to give credit for pointing out things I never thought about as a man. I have to admit, I ragged on HRC a little for merely being her husband’s wife while ignoring her own accomplishments as a private attorney, Arkansas’s FL and FLOTUS, Senator, and SoS. I do feel that SoS made her a better candidate and she would have been a better President had she won this time instead of 2008.

People get it backwards; in truth, all of Bill’s achievements are because he married Hillary. For his entire adult life he’s been short-sighted, impulsive and self-indulgent. She’s the one who brought focus and discipline to their partnership.

Controversial billboard featuring Donald Trump, ‘Make the Gospel great again,’ and Bible verse is taken down in Missouri

On Monday, news broke of a controversial billboard in St. Louis County, Mo., that featured an image of President Trump and a bible verse that has created some confusion. As of this publishing, the giant message has already been removed by DDI Media, which owned the billboard.

The electronic billboard on Interstate 170 read “Make the Gospel great again” and “The Word became flesh…” — the opening to John 1:14, which has some drivers believing that whoever paid for the advertisement, which DDI has not revealed, was equating Trump to Jesus Christ.

ASSANGE HIT WITH CHARGES!

washingtonpost.com

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been charged under seal, prosecutors inadvertently revealed in a recently unsealed court filing — a development that could significantly advance the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election and have major implications for those who publish government secrets.

The disclosure came in a filing in a case unrelated to Assange. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kellen S. Dwyer, urging a judge to keep the matter sealed, wrote that “due to the sophistication of the defendant and the publicity surrounding the case, no other procedure is likely to keep confidential the fact that Assange has been charged.” Later, Dwyer wrote the charges would “need to remain sealed until Assange is arrested.”

Dwyer is also assigned to the WikiLeaks case. People familiar with the matter said what Dwyer was disclosing was true, but unintentional.

(Aw, hell, I posted this a couple threads back but they’re doing really well and there’s still like four hours left if you’re staying up.)

(Random charity aside from a lurker… )

So my favorite internet fundraiser of the year is into its last hours. Check out desertbus.org where a Canadian comedy troupe and friends are playing the most tedious video game ever, auctioning and raffling off prizes, singing, dancing, and other hilariously random things. This is probably the longest-running gaming-centric fundraiser, and they support Child’s Play who buy gaming equipment and resources primarily for children’s hospitals and a few similar settings.

When I was ten I was in the hospital for three weeks or so to get some liver ducts fixed and then waiting while the post-surgery pancreatitis went away. After the first five days mostly I felt okay, but getting jabbed with needles six times a day and some unfortunate hospital room arrangements had me in a bad mood. Someone had donated an Intellivision and a dozen or so games that could be used in front of the nurses’ station and while I can’t say it made me get better any faster but it probably meant I didn’t snarl at the nurses quite so much. That was decades before Child’s Play started up, but I was delighted to see someone carrying that torch in an organized fashion.

So I chip in one or two grand towards Desert Bus every year. To give back, yes, but also because the event is a great mental flossing where work and politics don’t matter so much. It’s streamed through Twitch, but you can watch it on their site and even if you do click over to the source feed they very strongly moderate their chat, better than anyone else in this size range I’ve encountered. Donations are through Paypal and go straight to the charity who claim a 94% passthrough rate. I strongly recommend checking it out, especially as we get into the evening and the rush of the last few hours.

The NOAA officer corps actually originated in the First World War when surveyors from the precursor service, the Coast and Geodetic Survey, were assigned to work with the armed forces overseas. They were given uniforms and commissions so they wouldn’t be shot as spies if captured. The Civil Air Patrol was made a uniformed service in World War II for the same reason.

No surprise to anyone who’s spent a lot of time in northeastern small towns.

Northwestern small towns too. The densely populated areas of Oregon keep the sparsely populated areas from burning the state down. Washington is the same way. It’s more than clear that people who live in areas with a large and diverse population care more about those around them than those who have fewer people and less diversity around them. Here in my part of Oregon, Lane county kept DeFazio in Congress. Their voters kept the nuts in four other counties, including mine, from electing Art Robinson (R-Send Urine).

Brexit with deal: 16%
No-deal Brexit: 28%
Remain in EU: 43%

This time, the combined Brexit vote (44%) is slightly more than the Remain vote, but Remain still wins.

2. There’s all these fine candidates that her opponents supposedly think will run, but none are stepping forward and the excuse is “They won’t run until she steps aside.” (Where have I heard that before?)

3. There’s no way Nancy can win the gavel without getting votes from the House GOP, so she should be prepared to agree to “bipartisan” rule reform if she wants to be Speaker.

Why I love it is because two weeks ago, when Nancy was out in the press telling them that she was confident that the DNC was about to win the House, the press snickered and suggested she was setting herself up to look like an idiot when the GOP kept the House. Now she says she has the Dem votes to win the gavel without groveling to anyone, and the same press are saying she doesn’t have the votes and needs to step aside or compromise.

Corruption cases, plural.
Still ongoing for the most part, indictments yet to be handed out in 3 of them.
Last week saw indictments for the most prominent of them all (Case 3000, involving corruption in a major defense acquisition), Netanyahu wasn’t charged but several folks close to him were. Big debate on whether he knew things or not - “damned if he did, incompetent if he didn’t.”

They keep misunderestimating her skills - including the ability to count.

Why was she effective as Speaker? Because she knew the votes and counts to make them happen. It’s precisely why Ryan was an abject failure. He didn’t know/care about the counts (or anything else) so long as he could claim to gut the safety net and threaten repeals of Obamacare.

As for the weapon involved in this test, we really don’t know what it was. There is speculation that it could have been a new anti-tank or surface-to-air missile system, or another short-range guided weapon, but really, it doesn’t matter all that much. What matters is North Korea wanted their old modus operandi to rear its ugly head again in the propaganda space and the world is taking notice. This is what gets me every time.

I don’t particularly have a dog in this fight. Nancy can be Speaker or someone else can.

But the way the other party does this, if I am understanding it correctly, is that they have a Speaker or majority or minority leader who wants to be Speaker, and they more or less challenge each other or fight it out in some process that results in one of them keeping the Speakership or someone else taking it.

This demand for Nancy to step down, or not run, or whatever, seems almost like an attempt by the GOP or the media or whoever else to just sow chaos in the Dem House ranks should Nancy indeed step aside and no one, or no one barely qualified actually steps forward to replace her.

Kids that grow up in mountain towns don’t ever get snow days, even though they deal with snow way more than their city/flatland/lower latitude contemporaries. Irony. Go figure.

Large urban areas have issues with where to put all the snow regardless of levels of preparedness. Beyond a certain point it literally has to be hauled out of the city or melted on site. The capability to this during a major snowstorm so as to prevent delays and school closings would be prohibitively expensive.

What’s really sad is they think this is a way to reach out to Black Americans by flat out saying they’re too stupid to know that Lincoln was a Republican and the pushers of Jim Crow were Democrats. I remember when Rand Paul tried to pull that stunt at Howard. Didn’t end well for Rand.

Well it’s not even truly a lie. The fact is for much of the 19th and early half of the 20th century, the GOP was better on Civil Rights but what the hell does that mean to someone now who hears Republicans using PoC as a boogeyman to strum up support. There is literally not a soul alive today who was alive when the GOP was clearly the better of the two parties on Civil Rights. These guys love to talk about the Dixiecrats but they ignore that many Southern Republicans actually tried to out right wing them on civil rights eventually and that’s actually how we got some of the first Republican Congressmen and SEnators from the Deep South in the modern era.

I snarked about having heard this all before because we really have, in the run-up to the ‘16 primaries there was all this talk that if Hillary would just announce she’s no intention to run, then a plethora of “better” candidates would feel safe to run and step up. But whenever you pressed the folks making these arguments who these candidates waiting for Hillary to “step aside” were, we got the same noise we’re getting now: “Oh, well X might consider a run” or “We’d like to see Y run in place of Hillary.” Except then the press would ask X and/or Y about their intentions and they’d universally deny any interest in running.

Yeah it’s a lie and incredibly stupid too. And I get tired of the Democrats as a whole from the 1860’s made out to be pro-secession. That wasn’t the case. That was the Southern Dems. Lots of Northern Dems who were not only pro-Union but some of them even became some of Lincoln’s top generals, Winfield Scott Hancock comes to mind. I will grant that the Republicans were the only party not to have secessionist and pro slavery elements but the remnants of the Whigs certainly did. Like Civil Rights itself a 100 years later, I’d say a lot of the divide on secession was based on region. I believe it’s been shown that Northern Democrats voted for the Civil Rights legislation at a same or even greater rate than their Republican colleagues and as I said yesterday, the Republicans showed how serious they were about the entire issue when they decided to nominate Goldwater in ‘64 rather than a proven Civil Rights champion like Rockefeller.

Since you brought up George Romney who I believe my grandfather actually probably would have met since George was an auto executive. I actually have a lot of respect for him being staunchly pro civil rights when his church remained officially very racist. IT’s why I can’t stand Mitt. George had political courage that Mitt has none of. And you’re absolutely right. I mean I appreciate that Goldwater opposed the RR later in his career but the Goldwater of ‘64 did not belong in the WH at all and the movement to elect him President really started a lot of the crap we see on the right now.

Yeah, not so much. The Republican Party was like most political parties, split into factions that tried to pull it hither and yon. While there was no overt support for secessionist states in the party, there were those Republicans who felt that the Southerners weren’t wrong when they said slavery was a legal matter and one that the Feds had no business poking their noses into. Really, had the war ended prior to Antietam and the Emancipation Proclamation, it’s likely its lasting legacy would be that viewpoint that states don’t have the right to secede and slavery would have been abolished in a much more gradual fashion.

291
HappyWarrior  Nov 16, 2018 • 7:15:37am

I’ll take Republicans seriously on trying to school my party for what it was when they can speak honestly about the race baiting Reagan did throughout his political career whether it was the about face on guns because of the black panthers, the “young bucks buying t-bones”, “welfare queen”, and of course the infamous opening up one’s campaign where three civil rights workers were murdered talking about states rights. I’ll freely admit. The Democratic Party was pretty shitty on Civil Rights until Truman and didn’t really start going in the correct direction until LBJ since Stevenson and even JFK were a bit lukewarm on the subject.

The party was really divided between the “Radical Republicans” who were major advocates of abolitionism and scared the ever-loving shit out of Southerners, and what we’d recognize today as the business wing of the party that saw slavery in the terms of the day: Economics and Political power. The former opposed any new slave states being allowed into the Union on humanitarian grounds, the latter saw any new slave state admitted as a strengthening of Southern influence and power in the Western territories. Lincoln really fell somewhere in the middle, sympathetic to the abolitionist cause but viewing slavery as a legal matter that should be settled in the courts or legislatures rather than through force.

And to add to your point about the economic motivation of more conservative Republicans, these also opposed the expansion of slavery on the grounds that it hindered the furtherance of a free labor system. Eric Foner’s book, Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men, on the emergence of the Republican Party is an important read.

And in terms of the humanitarian motive, there were Republicans, Lincoln chief among them, that saw the expansion and presence of slavery as a blot on the reputation and example of the American Republic. Some Republicans might not have cared all that about slavery or the condition of Blacks, but they were concerned about how slavery made the American example appear to other countries. These desired that America serve as a republican example to other countries so that democracy/republicanism might be spread.

Ayep. The Republicans as a party generally were not partial to the secessionist cause, but they were at least willing to entertain the idea of solving the matter in the courts or through passage of laws. In the short-term, they wished to close off the West to further expansion of slavery, but the long-term goal was to abolish it entirely throughout the US. There were even proposals such as allowing the federal government to purchase slaves for the purpose of setting them free.

Large urban areas have issues with where to put all the snow regardless of levels of preparedness. Beyond a certain point it literally has to be hauled out of the city or melted on site. The capability to this during a major snowstorm so as to prevent delays and school closings would be prohibitively expensive.

Cleveland, Erie PA, Buffalo, Rochester…all know this dilemma. Many years back I was up in Rochester in late March and there were still mounds of snow standing in areas wherever they could stack it. The hotel I stayed in had a big pile in the back of their parking lot that was probably 10 feet tall and 50 wide or more.

Snow belt. No mountains like Colorado, Utah and the like, but all the snow. And it is usually wet snow so it is heavy too.

Oh yeah…morning!

It may just be me, but I think it rather significant that the judge ruled not on the 1A grounds (i.e. “Acosta has a right as a member of the press to attend these briefings”), but on 5A grounds (i.e. “He was ejected and his press pass pulled for breaking rules that weren’t clearly posted”).

dangerman  Nov 16, 2018 • 9:10:50am

regarding the shooting of Jemel Roberson, the security guard in the bar outside chicago, the police are leaning their story to how he was dressed (or wasnt dressed):

In its release, state police said Roberson was wearing “plain black clothing with no markings readily identifying him as a Security Guard.” However, Myrickes [a witness] said all the security guards wore knit hats emblazoned with the word “Security” on them and that Roberson wore a black sweat shirt with the word “Security” on the back of shoulder. But he also acknowledged that it’s possible the officer could not see the white lettering from where he was standing.

there’s a thousand things wrong with what the cop did (imo) and how fast he did it

focusing only on the statement above, of course this is nothing new….

someone wants to shoot up a bar, he gets himself a shirt, jacket and cap with “Security” written on it and goes in….

it doesnt even have to be the ‘official’ uniform of the bar

another after the fact let’s concoct a story so its ok what the cop did

The White House seems to have gotten the message the judge intended to send, which was “You morons can’t throw him out for breaking the rules if the rules weren’t clearly posted!” So now they’re going to go back, write up rules under which Acosta must operate if he wants to remain in the press pool, and when they yank the pass again they’ll have a better argument than “Look at this doctored video!”

Not really sure Trump can manage that. No impulse control.

Here’s what I think happened, really - The morning after the election, things looked a lot rosier for Trump and the GOP. So many commentators saw the election day results and thought “No Blue Wave” (I’m looking at YOU, James Carville), so Trump was feeling pretty full of himself, and wanted to flex his muscles. So they set Acosta up, so that the Mic Girls would grab his mic away from him, to show the new, tougher Trump, now vindicated by a better-than-expected showing in the election.

Same thing with firing Sessions.

But as the week wore on, it became clear that things weren’t as rosy as all that, leading to Trump sulking in his hotel room in France, and rage tweeting about Mueller.

re: #414 Unshaken Defiance

I agree, but I think there are constitutional limits that current events have stale dated badly.

There’s a good reason to have elections validated and made official within a reasonable time. The system in place should be equipped to handle every goddamned eligible voter for that locality/state. It clearly isn’t, as witnessed by the problems across the nation due to heavy turnout.

But these issues are the result of states controlling the process, and the process favors the incumbents of both parties. They don’t care about expanding voter access and ease to vote, because incumbents might lose.

To fix:
1) every state should adopt nonpartisan panel to draw district lines for congressional districts and state legislatures and local races.
2) every state should adopt early voting
3) every state should adopt automatic voter registration
4) every state should adopt process by which every locality is able to handle turnout of 100% of eligible voters for that district, and that they have enough machines/scanners to handle crowd.

Many states look to NY as proof they don’t need to do any of the above, so if you want to move the needle, you need to demand NYS enable the above (and more).

That’s going to rise until they search the last block of homes and it’s just heart shattering sad. We don’t think of town going up. We think up the canyon, in the hills. West Hills (mil home) had a tiny few homes go at the edges. no injuries. That was again unprecedented and in areas more recently built into desert brush sandstone hillsides. The Camp fire has rightly undermined our middle class tract home “in town” confidence. This is climate change and human expansion in a terrible venn diagram.

He can drop him from the ticket, so I think he understands he can’t fire him. The last time changing VPs occurred I believe was FDR.

re: #420 lawhawk

Many states look to NY as proof they don’t need to do any of the above, so if you want to move the needle, you need to demand NYS enable the above (and more).

i really should bold the whole thing

and i will add that “the system” is really two parts (registration / booting people off the rolls is a different problem)

- capacity on election day - the long lines / wait
- capacity to count quickly and accurately which includes verifying mail in ballots (and that could be done before election day, as received)

re: #429 Unshaken Defiance

That’s going to rise until they search the last block of homes and it’s just heart shattering sad. We don’t think of town going up. We think up the canyon, in the hills. West Hills (mil home) had a tiny few homes go at the edges. no injuries. That was again unprecedented and in areas more recently built into desert brush sandstone hillsides. The Camp fire has rightly undermined our middle class tract home “in town” confidence. This is climate change and human expansion in a terrible venn diagram.

In NM in 2012, we had the largest fire ever in the state (at that time…). 250,000 acres, only lost 12 structures. Send us all your fires, we got nuthin’ to burn!

Expansion on 2 above: early voting locations should be convenient, easily accessible, and open for sufficient hours and days to accommodate those workers with difficult schedules, who have no flexibility in the work hours. For example — have 24 hour, 7 days a week for at least one week.

Expansion on 4 above: the voting polls need to be convenient to voters. No more games like Dodge City, Kansas where the polling station was moved outside of town with the implicit intention of reducing turnout.

There also need to be
>> modern voting equipment with paper trails,
>> appropriate design of ballots to avoid confusion, and
>> final count based on the paper NOT the machines, to double-check and avoid bugs in the software.

The experts need to develop a consistent ballot design to eliminate potential confusion. I realize that ballot design can be complicated because the ballots may differ significantly even between counties and voting districts in the same state. For example, my ballot had 59 judges up for retention and 11 judicial vacancies — the neighboring county had only 4 judges; my ballot had 5 referendum, but neighboring districts (in the same county) had only three or 4 referendum.

True. But it’s a no-win scenario for them.
Dropping Pence would totally enrage the religious right, who will see it as betrayal on the part of the heathen they’ve tolerated dumping their golden boy. The ensuing chaos could decimate the GOP from within and at the polls.
And who could replace him? Who would want to take the chance, knowing that Trump is the Opposite King Midas, whose touch turns anything even remotely golden to bovine excrement?

…All of which is why i’m absolutely all for it of course. :D

Trump is probably right to be suspicious of Pence’s loyalty, I still think Pence wrote the anonymous NYT op-ed. And while Trump might have needed Pence in 2016 to shore up the evangelicals he doesn’t now, Trump could literally sprout horns and those soulless fucks would still support him.

Well, he could fire him in 2020. But I could also imagine that leading to some sort of floor fight.

And before you say there’s no way there’d be a floor fight in a modern convention, just remember in the last 25 years we’ve seen: a president impeached; two presidents win the electoral college while losing the popular vote; a black man as president; a woman as speaker of the house; a woman nominated for president by a major party (who also won the popular vote).

I should turn off my computer, and leave the internet on a high note

Our corgi, Tippy Tank, sure didn’t float well.

Wife and I took him to a local lake to run around. As we pulled up we didn’t see the goose over by the water, but Tippy sure did. As soon as the wife opened the door, off he went. I thought the goose would get in the water and be away way before Tippy got there, but his little corgi legs were moving.

He made it to the water as the goose was about 4 - 5 feet into the water from the shore. In goes Tippy swimming after the goose. The goose just kept paddling further out into the water. Soon Tippy noticed that he couldn’t touch bottom and he turned around. But he was a good 20 feet or so from shore. He made it back to shore but swallowed a good bit of water and hacked it up on the shore.

That dog was a real nut, and the most lovable little fellow you would ever want to meet.

That could have been at least partly for health reasons; Rockefeller died of probably a heart attack in 1979.
(in the presence of a 25-year-old woman who worked for him; who took more than an hour to call for an ambulance. there was no autopsy.)
