Meanwhile in Israel, where the turmoil has resulted in the fragile government coalition sustaining its first crushing voting loss today, the new seating arrangements among opposition members has the Head of the Arab unity party sitting by this fresh member…

(Hebrew: “So I’m thinking of resigning from the opposition…”)

Energy Secretary Rick Perry flies wife around the world with Texas campaign cash

U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry left the Texas governor’s mansion four years ago. But he is still tapping his Texas campaign account to fly wife Anita Perry around the globe for nuclear talks and to speak at international energy meetings, records show.

In Paris last year, Anita Perry spoke at a women in energy event. She also appeared alongside her husband in South Africa on a panel about natural gas, social media accounts show.

Most recently, the campaign paid $17,000 to fly Anita Perry to and from London last March for Saudi nuclear meetings, finance reports show. It’s not clear what role Anita Perry — a nurse — played at the closed-door talks, though campaign finance reports said she went for government related activities.

While spouses occasionally accompany cabinet members on foreign work trips, ethics experts said it’s unusual for them to participate in official functions.

It makes sense as part of the larger pattern in which most people are viewed and valued as functional and/or ornamental objects whose worth bestows prestige and enjoyment on a small number of “real” people. You’re a tool or a bauble.

This is most obvious in and around their fucked up understanding of sex and consent, but it’s also true of how they speak to public servants, employees, etc.

Since military service symbolizes a bunch of qualities that these people want to attach themselves to, there’s a lot a veneration of the soldier as an abstraction, but when the mask slips it’s the same object-value at play and they don’t care about any specific serviceman or veteran.

Update on the young driver that flew through the retaining fence at the Macau Grand Prix yesterday. Also article mentions the others hurt in the race accident.

Damn good news considering the severity of the crash.

Motorsport_Com - Floersch has successful seven-hour surgery

Sophia Floersch has undergone a successful seven-hour operation on the spinal fracture she suffered in her horrific Macau Grand Prix crash, doctors have confirmed.

A seven-hour operation on her back was conducted on Monday, with doctors saying in a press conference afterwards that her vital signs are stable and limbs are active. She will remain in hospital for up to two weeks.

A message from her official Twitter account said that there had been no complications from the delicate operation.

“The medical team is deliberately working slowly to avoid risks,” it said. “The previous surgical course is good and without complications. The surgery that began this morning continues.”

It was also confirmed that TOM’S driver Sho Tsuboi had been discharged from hospital on Sunday night, while injured photographer Hiroyuki Minami has also been released.

Chinese photographer Chan Weng Wang, who has a lacerated liver, is expected to remain in hospital for another 10 days.

Race marshal Chan Cha suffered cuts and a broken jaw but should be released in three to four days.

It’s pretty damn clear yet we deal with condescending conservative jackasses who insist they understand the founders intentions and we don’t.

It’s one area where I agree very much with Jefferson’s views, and as the US Supreme Court relatively recently said, “freedom of religion means freedom from religion” (I forget what justice wrote that)

It actually was pretty common in the Victorian era. Churchill’s mother had a few. It’s like facial hair. Something that our grandparents generation frowned on but their grandparents were cool with. Showed my very anti facial hair grandmother a photo of her grandpa a cousin in Europe sent and mustache!

We also went to San Onofre; where we were informed that nuclear power was guaranteed 100% safe. That nobody had ever died at a nuclear power plant, and there’d never been any accidents or any escaped radioactivity. That gives you some idea how old I am.

There are stories of parents treating one kid like a prince/princess and another like an unwanted pet rat (Read A Child Called It… Fucking heartbreaking)

There are stories of great parents having a shitty child and vise versa.

My BIL was apparently a shitty kid/teenager whose high school girlfriend (now wife of like 40 years) gave him an ultimatum… Fix your shit or goodbye. He literally changed overnight.

We know that nature alone creates mental issues like paranoid schizophrenia. We also know that nurture can create issues, especially when abused, neglected or otherwise mistreated.

Sexual abuse at a young age many times creates those children when they grow up becoming abusers of children of the same age as when they were abused.

I’d guess one or the other could be 100% at issue as well as a mixture of mental issues and neglect or adviser.

Shouting ‘Mexico First,’ Hundreds In Tijuana March Against Migrant Caravan

The message for the migrant caravan was clear from marchers on Sunday in Tijuana, Mexico: We don’t want you here.

“We want the caravan to go; they are invading us,” said Patricia Reyes, a 62-year-old protester, hiding from the sun under an umbrella. “They should have come into Mexico correctly, legally, but they came in like animals.”

Demonstrators held signs reading “No illegals,” “No to the invasion” and “Mexico First.” Many wore the country’s red, white and green national soccer jersey and vigorously waved Mexican flags. The crowd often slipped into chants of “Ti-jua-na!” and “Me-xi-co!” They sang the national anthem several times.

Heh, I just heard David Corn on Ari’s The Beat say Ivanka claimed she was not aware of there being rules surrounding her use of emails working in the government.

Trump engages in a $220M deployment of troops to the border for a campaign stunt that ends immediately after the election is over.

Meanwhile, the Mueller investigation has cost roughly $20M in the year since it began, only 1/10th of the troop deployment.

Guess which expense the GOP considers unjustified and wants to immediately end?

um… the Mueller investigation has spent roughly $20M, but it also led to $46M in asset forfeiture from Manafort. So not only didn’t it “cost” anything, it’s had a 125% RoI.

I suspect the argument goes: Dems lost 6 seats in 2010, three of them in states they should win (Wisconsin, Illinois, and Pennsylvania); while Republicans in 2018 are going to end up gaining a seat.

There were different maps in those elections, of course, and different dynamics at play, but I’m sure that’s how it would be spun.

Watched Nicole Wallace while reading here and I am wondering about something.

Does Donald J. Trump have one single redeeming character trait?

I can’t think of one single thing, but that may be due to listening and reading the really stupid shit he has said over the last few days. And it all points to his questionable character.

Our asshole president is one flawed human being.

He is damn lucky his father gave him money to pad his pitiful life. Because if he ever had to trust other people to hire him and keep him employed, or use his service or labor in a trusting manner, he would maybe be good enough to rake leaves on a landscaping crew. Maybe.

And is it any wonder that he cannot “make deals” with other countries around the world. The only trade deals, defense deals are those that were negotiated prior to him taking office - that he has not abandoned. No-one of integrity trusts him to make a deal, let alone keep to it. The latest disaster as per Pence fighting with China at the APEC Summit. They have zero understanding of world politics.

Suggestion for the press corps: The first time Donny tries to ignore a question by going “That’s a stupid question” or any variation of such and muscling forwards, the next reporter picked should either say “I’d like to yield my question back to my colleague who didn’t get an answer” or simply repeat the question just asked. Neither of those are against these new “rules” and both would immediately send Cheeto Benito into a rage.

I’m not a big fan of whiskeys and bourbons. I’ll tolerate a scotch every now and then, but gin is my thing.

The Mrs. loves her some bourbons and whiskeys. Think we’re heading to a bunch of Hudson Valley distilleries this weekend. Hillrock has some that were on the pricey side, but you know where the money is going. This is the kind of sipper that even with a single ice cube would be proud to call home. Incredibly smooth and irresistible.

$80-100 per bottle. A very nice birthday gift if you ask me.

Hoo boy…

In an exclusive interview with HillReporter, alleged Mueller rape accuser Carolyne Cass opens up and tells us that she does not know if Mueller was actually the person who raped her and that both Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman published and shared, against her will, ‘inaccurate’ statements during a November 1st press conference. Cass, who doesn’t deny being raped during the time period that Wohl and Burkman claimed, admits multiple errors in the published accusation document and doesn’t recall if she ever personally signed the report. In fact, Cass was assured by Burkman and Wohl that the document would “never be released.”

Trump has found a new distraction from his administration’s rampant criminality and corruption: go after Venezuela!

The Trump administration is preparing to add Venezuela to the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism in what would be a dramatic escalation against the socialist government of Nicolás Maduro, according to U.S. officials and internal government emails.

The list is reserved for governments accused of repeatedly providing “support for acts of international terrorism” and includes only Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria.

Republican lawmakers led by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) have pushed for the designation, citing Venezuela’s alleged ties to Lebanese Hezbollah, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, and other groups.

Republicans have long accused Venezuela of having ties to terrorist organizations. But experts have played down the threat and strength of those connections. They warn that a designation that does not offer concrete evidence could weaken the legitimacy of the U.S. list, which critics say already is applied inconsistently.

“I suspect this will be based on hearsay and sources of questionable integrity,” said David Smilde, a senior fellow at the Washington Office on Latin America.

re: #367 goddamnedfrank

The last thing we need is another entitled rich white dude.

Maybe it’s just me (hint: it’s not), but I’d like somebody with proven government experience.

If anybody’s heart is set on a self-funded billionaire… might I suggest Michael Bloomberg?

re: #365 William Lewis

I’ve read that her brakes had failed and she was attempting to rub off speed against the wall when she hit/was hit by (unclear) another car and then went flying.

I saw some video of what started the crash. Let’s see if this embed works.

Hey it worked.

I think there is some question as to why she hit the other car to start her skid out of control. Did the driver in front of her she hit lets up or have a mechanical problem.

She lost the wheel and it pitched 180 backwards into the wall. So, no braking at all. She was on a ride at that point.

The the car she hit didn’t even know it was coming. And she was launched off his wheel.

I cannot believe how fast her car was going.

Brake failure, maybe, throttle jam, probably. Nobody fucks the dog that badly without a mechanical failure. Glad no-one got killed.

If Ron Chernow had any balls he’d get Michelle Wolf to help him write the speech.

Add some carrots and onions and you’ve got the nice base for a soup or sauce.
