THEY’VE SETTLED ON A CATCHPHRASE
Lindsey Graham:

Asked Lindsey Graham about Cohen news, and he called it a “process crime.” Most Republicans downplaying the news, saying they haven’t followed it or saying it’s all about Cohen lying to Congress, while dismissing Trump’s knowledge of Trump Tower Moscow project
— Manu Raju (@mkraju) November 29, 2018

Rush Limbaugh:

Every one of Mueller’s indictments is a process crime. Mueller doesn’t have any substantive criminal activity here, any collusion. He’s got people that have lied to him.

Michael Anton:

Michael Anton, former spokesman for Trump’s National Security Council, also lashed out at Mueller’s team for pursuing a “process” crime, telling Fox that the special counsel has strayed from his initial mandate of investigating collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Your right-wing uncle, who’d never encountered the phrase “process crime” until today, will be tossing it around by the weekend as if he’s been talking about process crimes all his adult life. New catchphrases will probably be approved several times by Wingnut Central between now and Christmas.

They have literally been lying by saying there was no collusion. Those are the lies that they have told the FBI and Congress. This isn’t a case of “I had eggs and bacon for breakfast” when it turns out you had a eggs and sausage for breakfast.

From another thread about how rubbish the movie “Braveheart” is in terms of history. (Well, obviously!) Anyway…

As a Scot who actually got taught history at school, I’m glad for articles like this. This film “Braveheart”, when it came out, was massively popular in Scotland, and still is. I suspect this might be a combination of the fact [?] that it was the first major Hollywood action epic that took the side of the Scots without being overtly patronising, and did so in the style of a classic rollicking Hollywood action epic a la “Spartacus”; that, and it coincided with the initial transition of the Scottish National Party (SNP) from a fairly small group on the fringe of Scottish politics, to a heavyweight in Scottish politics.

The SNP at the time were quite entryist about “Braveheart”, as in capitalising on it’s success as a campaigning tool. (Disclosure: At this time, I was an active member of the SNP Students, and I still support independence for Scotland.) However, I was a bit wary of this film, thinking: “(a) This is like a modern Hollywood version of Spartacus, only with more violence and definitely more homophobia; and (b) historically speaking, this film is a load of complete and utter bollocks.”

It’s worth noting that the trend for Hollywood movies to sit their Imperial Arse on real life was already noticed in the UK by the 80’s. The Comic Strip’s TV Movies for Channel 4 included many gems, but one genuine gem was called “The Strike”: in which, a playwright (Played by Alexei Sayle) sells in his work about the 1984-84 Miners Strike to meaning well people who want to make it into a drama film, but are, .. well, … idiots. Here’s an early scene.

Banwen comic strip the strike clip 2

tl;dr : It gets much, much MUCH worse, especially when north American money comes in. But it wins Oscars! So, where’s the sequel?

Biden’s there. Bernie’s not a Dem but he likely will run as a Dem in 2020. I know we don’t want it but the DNC probably figures it will be a bigger headache to stop him from running than to let him run in a big field and flop.

Top 5 are: Bernie with 27%, Biden with 17%, Beto with 14%, Warren with 10%, and Harris with 9%. Of those realistically, I think Harris is most likely. I really like Beto I admit but think ultimately he could be better off as a running mate for someone like Harris. I do like Brown too. I like how Brown can be populist without being dismissive of racial concerns like someone from Vermont.

Believe it or not, the Browns gave them a tough game early in the season. It was 21 to 18. I can’t remember all the details, but I think there was a bad call or two by the refs that could have turned that game.

TBH I thought you guys should have won that one. There were definitely some calls that should have gone their way. Depending on you hire as your HC, Cleveland might be the Steelers biggest threat in the medium term future. Just need to draft well. Baltimore is a WC. This restored my faith in people today.

A church in the Netherlands is holding an around-the-clock service that has lasted more than 800 hours, to shield a family from deportation.

Under Dutch law, police officers are not permitted to enter a church while a religious service is taking place. So, for more than a month, hundreds of pastors and volunteers from across the country have been meeting to maintain the 24/7 service in support of an Armenian family whose asylum claim has been rejected.

The thing to remember is that there’s an entire parallel social sphere which was only ever going to give her attention and…probably…cash, because the sole standard for entry is “own the libs/SWJs/globalists.”

No-platforming these jokers cuts them off from the easiest grift medium with fastest returns, and is therefore effective, but there’s no way to totally isolate them. Indeed the secret here is that the number who quit when they lose the easiest medium in which to operate—social media and it’s instant-stimulus, instant-response reward system that can be monetized—demonstrates how many aren’t really committed to The Message, but are committed to attention, deference, and money.

It’s so comforting to see an NRA representative indulge in the exact power fantasy that shooters do.

“You would be WEAK, I would be STRONG and heroic” said the well-adjusted person to his well-adjusted audience, none of whom were aroused.

re: #65 KGxvi

I’m still annoyed that Steyer’s PAC sent me an email urging me to vote for de Leon (who I was tempted to vote for) because they culled my email from an FTC comment submission (I think it was one of the ones that John Oliver did). Made me switch my vote to Feinstein.

I was against de Leon because he tried to ram through a single payer bill in 2017 that didn’t have a funding mechanism and couldn’t possibly have worked without amending Prop 98, which can only happen via a statewide initiative vote in even numbered years. He and Roseanne DeMoro, head of the CA Nurses Association, were so irresponsible with their tactics and rhetoric that Senate President Rendon got death threats when he held up their totally bullshit & impossible to fund bill. I’m not a huge fan of Feinstein but it was another case of voting for the adult in the room. Also, Senate seniority rules have to be a real consideration, unfortunately.

God, these people are depressing.

The bottom of the fame scavenger hierarchy, restlessly awaiting their chance at the meaty carcass of wingnut incredulity. Getting their helping only after the lions, hyenas, and vultures. Crawling up the rectum to get a few extra morsels of attention.

In my head I can see and here David Attenborough narrating their activities….

Or Bruce Hornsby: “Standing in line, marking time, waiting for the (wingnut) welfare dime…’cause they can’t buy a job….”

What I’m saying is, if your hero fantasy specifically focuses on the weakness of the victims and how it makes them bad…you are never going to be a hero in real life.

You might, however, be the guy who thinks he’s a hero while he shoots up the office he was fired from….

Why you even try to act like you’re happy with the Senate results is amusing. History defying?

How often has the Senate seen gains of at least 2 seats? That’s like the minimum based on past history.

And the GOP got those two seats based on a favorable map. The House saw a 40 seat flip to Democratic control. That’s on top of winning a ton of state/local races nationwide.

Yeah, Trump’s desperate for anything to keep him warm while the walls close in.

115
HappyWarrior  Nov 29, 2018 • 5:19:33pm

Normal election map. He loses 2-4 seats. A map as favorable to the Dems as it was to the Republicans, maybe 6-8. He got incredibly lucky with that map and it had nothing to do with him just the fact that 2006/12 were Democratic years that brought some bright red state Dems into office. The only real significant senate victory was probably Florida and Scott ran away from him a good amount especially after his dickhead behavior towards PR.

Atop that, the GOP kept several Senate seats by the skin of their teeth. So the idea that this was some massive victory for them is laughable.

I know a lot of pretty self fancied progressive of the progressive types. I was sort of like one myself back when I supported Kucinich gulp back in 2004. I was young and stupid. But what amuses me about it looking back how the Sanders people approach things is they use hypothetical polls as a way of boosting Bernie where I know these same type of people would hate it if that were used as an argument against Bernie. My argument against Bernie is simple, I do not think he has the right stuff to be President and nor do I think he values the multicultural coalition that is the Democratic Party.

U.S. agency apologizes to George Soros after broadcast called him ‘multimillionaire Jew’

The head of a U.S. government agency has apologized to George Soros and his Open Society Foundations for the airing of a program that espoused conspiracy theories about Soros and called him a “multimillionaire Jew.”

In letters sent earlier this month, John F. Lansing, chief executive and director of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, voiced his personal apologies to Soros and OSF president Patrick Gaspard for the program, which he said had “made several false and negative assertions” about the billionaire philanthropist and had furthered “age-old tropes against the Jewish community.”

“It was based on extremely poor and unprofessional journalism, and it was utterly offensive in its anti-Semitism and clear bias,” Lansing wrote in the letter to Soros, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post. “I take this breach in our fundamental obligation to provide accurate, balanced, and objective reporting very seriously.”

The 15-minute, Spanish-language segment was aired in May by Radio and Television Martí, which is overseen by the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and its Office of Cuba Broadcasting. The Miami-based network broadcasts news and other programs promoting U.S. interests to audiences in Cuba.

The program, which has since been taken offline, called Soros a “nonpracticing Jew of flexible morals,” claimed that he was involved in “clandestine operations that led to the dismantling of the Soviet Union” and described him as “the architect of the financial collapse of 2008.”

It also made repeated references to Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group that has launched an “Expose Soros” fundraising campaign and had claimed, without evidence, that the “Soros-occupied State Department” was funding a migrant caravan on its way to the United States.

Lansing acknowledged criticism of Judicial Watch in his letter to Gaspard and said that due to its weak sourcing, the program “should never have been produced in the first place.”

GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

When we were in Vietnam (admittedly mostly in the Saigon district of Ho Chi Mihn City) to adopt our son in 2002, it was referred to as “The American War”.
