Lyrics:
doin it right, on a weird night
(vrs):
between 3 and 6 when my big ideas hit
green freeways, green freeways, driving fast, at last
its hard to be fake with nobody else awake
I can live how I live baby, hanging hard, working hard
(ch):
In the weird part of the night, yeah
thats the time I feel alright, yeah
all the bull s—- goes away, oh yeah
then it comes back during the day, yeah
doin it right, on a weird night
(vrs 2):
between 3 and 6 when no one can f—- your s—-
so in touch, thats the best, send that girl a risky text
thrill seeking, gland squeezing, give your life meaning
that spot on the clock, when the world can’t throw you off
(ch again)
(insane throat slap vocal run)
(ch again)

The other day, hostility was expressed here toward Luke Harding. Months ago, I purchased his book Collusion, which I haven’t yet read. Is the consensus that he isn’t particularly reliable and it’s not worth reading his writings?

Lie about a blowjob when giving a deposition in a sexual harassment case that’s ultimately settled: “THIS IS AN UNFORGIVABLE CRIME FOR WHICH HE MUST BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM OFFICE!!!!”

Lie about business deals you had with a foreign government in order to win an election: “Hey now, this isn’t really a crime…”

If Trump lied under oath about the business deal, then it’s comparable for him. OTOH, unless the Republicans would convict, Trump isn’t going to be impeached.

Also Trump will certainly veto any restrictions on Saudi Arabia and the Republicans will let the veto stand.

At least, the Putin meeting in Argentina has been canceled.

I don’t truly believe we’re going to see Trump impeached. But I think the damage done to his presidency will be such that a primary challenge is in his future, if not a lot of closed-door suggestions that he resign “for the good of the country.”

Cohen launched a torpedo today into the USS Trump. It’s engines are dead, steering has been lost, it’s taking on water and is listing to the right. Numerous rats have reportedly been seen getting ready to jump off the ship. Other reports indicate that Mueller is sending helicopters to give the rats the choice of talking to him rather than drowning in the open, deadly sea.

Meanwhile, Faux News has reported that the ship has NOT been torpedoed and is continuing on it’s charted itinerary to Make America Great Again, but has altered its course, with a fair amount of unjustifiable derp, to avoid a General Motors reef that has suddenly formed just off-shore of its Home Port in Unicorn Bay.

Film at eleven.

This week has felt like an artillery bombardment that he only paused long enough to let the guns cool before the next round begins. Started with Manafort getting reamed by having his plea agreement shredded for continuing to lie and (possibly) being a mole for Donny, moved on to Stone and Corsi turning on each other, and now they wheeled out the big guns with the Cohen plea. Every time you think there’s a moment where the shelling has stopped, where the guns ran dry and you can poke your head out, yeah hear the first incoming round whistling towards you and have to immediately hit the dirt all over again.

There was the question the other day of why Paulie’s lawyers looked so nervous. I think we’re beginning to see why.

I’m still not sure what part of Loomer’s Twitter protest was the funniest/most pathetic. That she only locked herself to one-half of a double door, that Twitter didn’t press charges so she couldn’t get arrested, that she only lasted two hours.

LOL, she caved hours ago. I forget where I read it already, but apparently the Twitter employees closed up shop at quitting time and basically told her “Knock yourself out.” Supposedly Loomer was visibly deflated by the fact they didn’t give a shit about what she was doing. She had to have the cops cut her loose.

Not-so-fun fact: she was wearing a yellow star the Nazis made Jews wear on her jacket. Because over six million people being slaughtered is exactly the same as being banned from Twitter.

Ooo, I’ve never seen one. Condor, I mean. A friend of ours lived up in the mountains east and west of Los Angeles, and served as a ranger sort decades ago. He and another were riding, and smelled something bad and went to investigate. As they got closer they heard a gosh-almight crashing like a jet plane trying to take off. Out of a very thick patch of brush with a dead cow in it came about 6 condors and 2 golden eagles. (I think I am remembering the numbers correctly.) Ed had some wonderful stories, rest his soul.

You probably didn’t run a hedge fund and commit financial fraud at age 19. Nor did you try to frame Mueller on bogus sexual harassment allegations. Think of Jacob Wohl as akin in character and honesty to James O’Keefe.

I’m stealing this concept from a writer named Stanley Bing.

Textbook description of a baby:
They are the center of the universe to the exclusion of everyone else. They are entitled to awake others at whim and demand full attention to their needs. Their food is prepared for them with great care and expense. Their incoherent babblings are held to be worthy of the highest praise and admiration. They are conveyed from place A to B in vehicles reserved exclusively for them. And they can break out into a screaming rage without warning, frightening anyone around out of their wits.

trump is the biggest baby of them all.

I’m pretty sure it was in Arizona (Grand Canyon trip), but memory being what it is, I could be wrong. It was really depressing in a way, because we were looking at something like seven birds, which was like 20% of the remaining population on the whole planet.

Those suckers are immense, though. Your buddy must have thought a flock of pterodactyls was coming at him.

Before the Internet, nuts like Loomer would be cranking a mimeograph machine and posting their dribble on light poles. There would probably be less than a hundred kooks subscribed to her gibberish.

But now with the internet the voices of these nuts is extremely amplified and it’s like a chain reaction. An asshole idea bounces off of millions of people, reverberates and then gets injected into the political mainstream.

Dad was Borough Constable for my hometown for 18 years. He had a special set of handcuffs issued to him by the Justice of the Peace. Only he could lock and unlock his set. Local police couldn’t unlock or lock his handcuffs. Dad had to use his handcuffs in front of the Justice when he had to take people to the county or borough jail. When he took them to the County jail, he had to unlock his cuffs in presence of the County Sheriff.

Man, I live two blocks south of Barton Springs Road on the south side of downtown Austin. It’s an easy walk into the urban core.

Surprising (and some not so) animals I have seen on my street:

Possums, Raccoons, Gray Foxes, ‘Dillos, Coyotes, Whitetail Deer, Western Diamondbacks, Barred Owls, Great Horned Owls, Screechers, Cooper’s Hawks, Coral Snakes, Ring-tailed Cats.

We are freaking abutting downtown, but we have two urban creeks a block and a half east and west of us that are animal highways.

Don’t forget your giant ass bat colony in the Congress Ave Bridge, LOL. That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.

Believe it or not, a good chunk of your list can be found around here in my little corner of South Jersey. Possums and raccoons aren’t a real surprise, but my neighbor claims to have seen a coyote a few years back. I know they’ve been turning up in Philly as well (I’m 12 miles east of the city, for reference).

Outside of the urban core, Austin is heavily forested. Pecans, several types of oaks (Live, Red, Post, Burr), Cedar Elms, Hackberries (ick), Cottonwoods, Sycamores, and Cypress. It’s a lot of room for a lot of species to inhabit.

You really have to piss off a Coral Snake to to get it to bite you. Small, fixed fangs, they’ve really got to munch on you to get that neurotoxin into you. If they do, of course, because you have absolutely fucked the dog, you have about an hour to get to an ER and pray that they have the anti-venom.

A report in 2009 documented the first Coral Snake fatality in the US in 40 years.

Um, no. I don’t think that’s what will happen tomorrow. Merkel’s plane had to turn around to get fixed. Cohen dropped a turd in the punchbowl. GM made a business decision that stuck a giant, barbed dildo up Drumpf’s ass.

All in all, I think tomorrow is going to be a gallon of Mazola, a big plastic sheet, and a naked Twister party.

Big jackpot means money to the coffers of state:

SD Lottery Products Running Ahead Of Last Year’s Pace

South Dakota lotto sales were in the $2 million per month range in July, August and September, then rocketed to nearly $6.9 million for October.

Mega Millions sales in the state peaked at $1,654,371 for the October 23 drawing’s jackpot of nearly $1.6 billion — with a b.

This is exactly why the two big national lotteries went with longer odds.

Happy Holidays! Don’t give lottery tickets to your kids!

As the holiday shopping season begins and “Five best stocking stuffers” lists post throughout the internet , experts advise against one such easy gift (at least when it comes to kids): lottery tickets.

Lottery tickets tend to be popular as smaller gifts to complement the main presents. They’re cheap, easy to fold and are sold pretty much everywhere.

Purchasing a lottery ticket under the age of 18 is illegal, though there is no law against giving tickets to minors. The real problem with the gifts is that it can set children down a path of addictive behavior, said Neva Pryor, executive director of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey.

Oh, the rattlesnake I found dead on the street was six and a half feet long with a head the size of your fist.

Yikes that’s a big rattlesnake.

Here on my street I’ve seen more wild critters than I can name: turkey vultures, antelope, mountain goats, deer (the deer around here are trained to look both ways before crossing streets), rabbits, Canada geese, wild turkeys, raccoons, one loose bull.

Up at the water tower some of the same plus rattlesnakes. Mountain lions have been seen by others just north of town.

Geez what a day. Friday is only just starting now … reading through the last few threads this has been crazy. What an infrastructure week. I can’t wait for the Friday news dump. I should feel sad about Laura Loomer’s state … nah, she’s an idiot.

Seriously, y’all, the Washington Bygawd Post did a story today telling us there’s now semi-scientific proof that men who are “secretly insecure about their manhood” just love Donald Trump.

No shoot, Sherlock, except I don’t see a damn thing about secretly. Have you seen these men at Trump rallies? Honey, either they are older than rocks or totally unjumpable. The young ones are men who don’t get to participate in ya-ya. No joyful mattress thrashing in their lives.

Mounting evidence of voter fraud in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District could indefinitely delay the certification of a winner, as state election officials investigate whether hundreds of absentee ballots were illegally cast or destroyed.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement has no plans to certify Republican Mark Harris’s 905-vote victory over Democrat Dan McCready, according to an agenda of a board meeting scheduled for Friday morning.

The board is collecting sworn statements from voters in rural Bladen and Robeson counties, near the South Carolina border, who described people coming to their doors and urging them to hand over their absentee ballots, sometimes without filling them out. Others described receiving absentee ballots by mail that they had not requested. It is illegal to take someone else’s ballot and turn it in. (more)

Hi, Mom. (You’re not really my mom, are you? That would be a bit freaky to find my mother has been following me around here. /s)

I can’t keep up either with the folks here. I just chalk it up to my political naiveté and lack of education.

I got good news this morning: The VA sent a letter (according to the claims site) as a “final determination of my claim of dependents.” (For eleven years I was unaware that VA Disability pays more if you are married … a few days ago I found out and added my wife as a claim.) I need to watch my mailbox to see if the claim was accepted (yes, you’re really married).

In theory, the VA can pay money you are due from the time you were eligible (which means in theory I would be owed about $30,000). I don’t expect any back pay, but it would be nice going forward to get that extra $200 or so.

Mueller knows that he has to be completely careful and consistent, any slight procedural error or perceived conflict or inconsistency will be ruthlessly picked apart and used as an excuse to dismiss the investigation outright.

This is all terribly frustrating as we just love press leaks and bombshells and dramatic revelations to speculate about, but Mueller is playing his cards so close to his chest they are nearly behind his shoulder blades…

Crappy people are still entitled to a competent defense. Dershowitz continues to honor that requirement that defendants be provided counsel.

The problem here is that Dershowitz continues auditioning for a role as Trump lawyer, but isn’t on his actual team. He’s offering up bogus assertions and deflections, while Trump’s actual legal team suffers for it because they have to address not only Trump’s awful tendencies (all of them, but specifically his inability to tell the truth - he regularly lies, exaggerates, deflects, and projects like IMAX), but now has to address how Dershowitz is making their job harder to a guy who always thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room (he isn’t) and thinks that his legal strategy to lie about everything will get him out of trouble again (it wont).

Morning, all…

So what’s the over/under on the official line on this being that this was Trump’s “private business” from back when he was still a “private citizen”, and that Mueller’s probe has “no business” looking into any of it?

No wonder the Moron-in-Chief has been so freaked out the past few days: he has always been ultra-sensitive about any of his “personal” business deals being exposed to any more scrutiny than he wants (I.e. none): IIRC, he said that too much poking around into Trump .Org. workings was going to be a “red line” for him. And it looks like that line has been crossed.

Predictions: an even angrier and more-unhinged tweetstorm from the

The funny thing is that Comey, Mueller, and Rosenstein, all who are always called Deep State are in fact Republicans and have much more experience serving in Republican administrations. In fact, I don’t think Rosenstein ever served in a Democratic one. Comey was appointed by Obama to head the FBI but he was a deputy AG for Bush. Mueller? Yeah Obama reappointed him but Bush made him FBI Director and he got his start in the DOJ in the Reagan years. As I said the other day, DimJim and his friends seem to believe the oath is to protect Donald Trump not the Constitution and despite what the two believe not only are the two not mutually inclusive, with Trump they are far often than not mutually exclusive. I’m sorry but when you refuse to disclose your own tax records yet make a big hoopla over a speech at Goldman Sachs, you’re a fucking hypocritical asshole.

As I said the other day, DimJim and his friends seem to believe the oath is to protect Donald Trump not the Constitution and despite what the two believe not only are the two not mutually inclusive, with Trump they are far often than not mutually exclusive.

They believe that, but they have also come to believe the ridiculous BS about a two-tiered system that punishes innocent Republicans and allows guilty Democrats to walk free. They have to believe that, or else the whole idea that Democrats, particularly Hillary and Obama are traitorous criminals while Trump and Repbublicans are the good guys come crashing down. The only way to reconcile that is to internalize that traditionally conservative national law enforcement is actually in thrall to liberals.

Well, consider how many conservatives are throwing the FBI, CIA, veterans, and other traditionally conservative supporters under the bus to maintain their delusion that somehow everything and everyone is out to get them.

In fact, enough attacks on police, the FBI, the CIA, and other such groups traditionally seen as “conservative” might actually drive them away from supporting conservatives. They might also come to realise that conservatives will step on anyone to gain or maintain their grip on power.

They may be cynical assholes exploiting ignorance but as we saw with Cesar Sayoc, their readers can be radicalized to the point of sending bombs to people they are told to hate. All the parallels to Nixon fall short.

Nixon was already president when he engaged in Watergate criminal misconduct. He wasn’t a private citizen at that point.

Trump was a private citizen engaging in high crimes and misdemeanors at the time of the Russia-Trump hijinx and then lied about it during the campaign, transition, and thereafter into his admin. He continued the conspiracy of lying and obstruction into his admin.

So, even if you want to claim that he’s entitled to some kind of privilege because he’s president now, it falls apart since the criminal conspiracy started before he ran and continued throughout his admin. His entire admin is based on lies and criminal misconduct.

I think there is one simple take on why there is that Trump personality cult.

After our first Black president and a woman candidate that almost won, Trump may just be the last of the Real White Men™ to run for office as seen and understood by the older folks, the White men (without college) and White women who buy into all that old “White Power” thinking.

In other words, Obama and Clinton scared the fuck out of them and Donnie was their savior…for now. They really seem to not want anyone but an old White man to be in the office.

That is why taking Donnie away is going to be very difficult for them. There will be a lot of acting out.

Young white people are just as bad as old white people. White people just make up a smaller percentage of young people than they do old people. It’s not going away with Shitmidas and the old people who voted for him.

I wouldn’t say we’re just as bad but we do have our problems for sure. But I think part of white America’s problem frankly is we don’t listen to PoC’s concerns and I’m sad to say but I see it even with my more liberal family members. White privilege doesn’t mean white people can’t have problems, it means that our problems aren’t because of our race and that is a key distinction.

We went out and saw Bob Dylan last night at NYC’s Beacon Theater.

Dylan is, by now, well known for re-jiggerng his iconic catalog, re-arranging them and masking them under arrangements that make them nearly unrecognizable (with the change in his voice finishing the job). Well, Dylan’s penchant for throwing his audiences curve balls saw maybe the ultimate curve ball on this swing - just about every song was played in nearly its original form! The hook this time was a heavy reliance on surf/twang stylings - I played Spot The Reference and heard snippets of Link Wray’s ‘Rumble’, Brian Wilson’s ‘I Get Around’ and the 50s ballad ‘Sincerely’ woven into those classic songs.

Slight name-droppage follows…

His authoritarian personality cult is particularly fascist. He promises a return to white nationalist values and white nationalist power where minorities are excluded or safely contained. Moreover, he specifically promises help for businesses associated with white working class men, like coal mining and auto manufacturing and threatens state punishment for businesses that displease him. I believe this is prima facie dirigisme.

Yes, he’s as close as we’ve had to a fascist in elected office. As I’ve told you guys before, the thing as a former history major I enjoyed studying in college were the little differences between the Fascist and Communist movements that impacted so much of last century. Trump has his own flavor of Fascism and it’s red, white, and blue and nasty.

That is true, but there is a difference. The younger ones have been around a lot more people of color, different religions, LGBT folks and they have been pushed to accept even if they don’t. So, they know the change is coming whether they like it or not. So I sort of think they will bitch about it, but not put up the fight as the elders do. They have been warned of the change so I think there will be less resistance. The older folks still think it can be like the old days. It will not.

Pinging off of the above, far too many of the aforementioned Trump supporters are under 50, and many of those are even under 40. That’s why I get crazy when I hear that bullshit about the GOP going extinct once the Baby Boomers die off. And you sure as shit don’t know that I will never “choose my race”, I happen to be white because of happenstance not some grand divine thing that makes me white. In fact, if I want to be really blunt, we white people are technically genetic mutants. It also allows them to cut transit into the city. If everyone had to work it would be hard to keep protesters out.

Also, with more people in the center city, it just gives more people the chance to join in the protests.

According to Chevy, there is a hydraulic reason behind it. I’m guessing when they went through cold weather testing, they observed such a failure. Sounds like it may be a design flaw because Ford convertibles do not have such a restriction.

What I’m excited about now that I have a Dem Congresswoman for the first time is seeing what committee assignments Jennifer Wexton gets. I hope she gets Judiciary and or Infrastructure. She’sa former prosecutor and traffic is always a big issue here in NoVa. In any case, I’m excited to ese what she gets so I can see what kind of legislation she will likely focus her efforts on. I’m not expecting Jen to be super progressive but I think she will obviously be by far the most liberal person who has ever represented me in Congress and I think she will be a good representative here in VA-10.

Originally, the blue checkmark was supposed to be designating news people and the like. They changed it a couple of years ago to people who identified themselves to twitter as real people (not just some anonymous user handle).

People still think it means something it doesn’t. That said, at this point I don’t think twitter knows what it means.

Being female certainly did not help Palin’s political ambitions in the Republican party, but people forget that she was actually an experienced Alaskan politician with a 14 year career before McCain selected her as his running mate — a career as long as Obama’s. And let’s not underestimate the myth of Trump’s wealth as a major reason for his successful run; he styled himself as a billionaire who earned his money himself by being a brilliant real estate mogul. People who wanted an outsider businessman as president chose him because of that and our useless press did nothing to enlighten the public about the truth.

Both Palin and Trump may be ignorant, but she’s not a narcissist with inherited wealth.

Twitter created it because their executives are wannabe starfuckers, and they thought creating an exclusive club that melded them among the famous would enable that. They wanted to fuck famous people so bad they never took the obvious route of turning the system into a revenue stream and using credit card payments as part of an expanded background check verification process.

Our free-market distribution for system foodstuffs (produced with massive government subsidies) generates a great deal of of surplus and waste, not to mention a lot of ecological and health problems.

We could reform this convoluted, inefficient and detrimental system while still providing basic nutrition in this country for all who need it with no problem.

MsJ  Nov 30, 2018 • 10:49:47am

re: #349 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

Is that why Milo was upset about losing his?

Yes. Like I said, many people take it as some kind of status thing, and I think originally it may have been. But google twitter checkmark and you’ll see that it’s really quite meaningless.

What it is…

A blue check mark indicates that a user has been verified by Twitter, to prove they are who they claim to be. However, the verified badge will only appear in the top-right portion of a user’s profile page. Just above the name, location, and bio.

So what kind of accounts get verified? Here’s the answer according to Twitter:

Twitter proactively verifies accounts on an ongoing basis to make it easier for users to find who they’re looking for. We concentrate on highly sought users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, advertising, business, and other key interest areas. We verify business partners from time to time and individuals at high risk of impersonation.

Why can’t I get verified? Again, here’s Twitter’s response:

If you think you meet the criteria for verification and have not yet received a badge, please be patient. We are working within key interest areas to verify accounts that are sought after by other Twitter users. We don’t accept verification requests from the general public, but we encourage you to continue using Twitter in a meaningful way, and you may be verified in the future. Please note that follower count is not a factor in determining whether an account meets our criteria for verification.

So if you want to get a pretty little blue check mark on your profile… well, good luck!

And here is a discussion about how squishy that checkmark is.

And then there’s this: Twitter: Our blue check marks aren’t just about “verification” So it’s all squishy…meaningless, really…it’s a be all to everyone but it has little meaning.

So…who cares about something no one really knows exactly what it is? I mean a lot of people care but they don’t know why they care. It’s like listening to trump prattle on about who knows what and every person hearing him speak attaches their own wants and needs into the words so everyone hears something different.

This is the twitter checkmark.

Good luck getting me to run one. Flat feet and cardiomyopathy don’t make happy runners but I’m getting in better shape for the new year. Ronnie Jackson says I’m the healthiest 31 year old me ever at this point in November.

- im not against the idea in general
- i wonder if there’s a better word than ‘rights’ as applied here
- otherwise it might tend to dilute the meaning elsewhere and then muddle and confound other discussions

How about “imperative”, as in “Every organism has the imperative to struggle and kill for food”?

No one in the modern world should have to worry about going without food. That’s how I see it. Enough of the Calvinist Randian bastard children.

oh i wasnt implying anything except that… i miss beer

i just look at alcohol in general as how many miles i gotta run to work off the calories in that bottle - or glass
so after a long run i figure im a bit ahead and earned it
cause you gotta replace those lost carbs, right?!

I know. I admire runners like you and my cousin. My endurance is awful. But I hear ya, the calories is exactly why I drink less than I was.

Everything with Trump is with an exclamation mark, no matter how appropriate.

Thoughts and prayers! Stay Safe!

His brain and his handlers all know how he works - always going with the maximum lie and maximum statement, no matter how appropriate or inappropriate.

Where every other president or leader would indicate, stay safe and we’re working with local officials as needed so that they can best be able to respond, Trump’s like “stay safe!”

Had it happened to Trump:

Donald Trump says his “family is intact” but her “house is not”, and “I imagine that’s the case for many, many others. So thankful to be safe; praying for our state following the earthquake. Winning!”

So I post here and Tweet from time to time. I’m really trying to get out of the funk I got myself into and not swim in it. So last night I just Tweeted this out on an article about Trump and his increasing agitation and anger. I don’t think it’s a threat. I just thought I posted it as an observation. Uh, no. I guess. So I got this.

Too much?

Maybe a good thing. Week off.
But, would you take this as a threat? Targeted harassment?
It’s not like I told him to personally walk of a roof.

Well, I don’t want to dunk on her over that. I’ve been through several significant quakes and I’m glad her family is okay.

I was sad trombones for her house…the one that Todd and his buddies built using the exact same materials as the Wasilla Sports Complex.

Plus, I remember how well Todd’s fence held up to a little bit of wind…it didn’t.

Like I said, no rhyme or reason I can see. I had to take down my comment, and then I went to the clock. 7 days, which may be a good thing. I do have to temper this time I spend swimming in this. I have an iPhone which gives me screen time minutes/hours for all I do on it. Then I have my computer, which is what I use here.
Scary the amount of time doing laps on this.
