Because there is a thread of conservativism that traces itself not just back to the anti-federalism of the CSA but to the anti-federalism of, well, the Anti-Federalists. The Federalist Society’s logo is, absurdly, a profile of Madison, who after writing the constitution and supporting ratification helped found the party that opposes the actual Federalists.

Or, because they’re just fucking racist but don’t want to admit it

Because the proponents of the “Lost Cause” insist that the Confederacy was not a collection of slave states looking to protect their millions of dollars of “property” but instead brave men acting in the spirit of the Founders in opposing a tyrannical government that was attempting to destroy their “way of life.”

You know the saying “the past is a foreign country; they do things differently there”? To Movement Conservatives, the past is a wondrous country because (they believe) the people back then thought as they do today and lived in a sort of perfect state that we are ever hopelessly trying to restore. And it is one of the reasons why they fight so hard to hold onto these myths and legends about that past, even if the reality was monstrous and inhumane.

I know. It’s toigh. Hope Leo gets better. We’re working on getting Sandor, Marleys baby brother in better shape. He’s sort of built like a lamb now right down to being predominantly white haired. He’s 75% poodle and 25% lab while Marley was all poodle. The other two are beagles who we’ve never had before. And thanks losing Marley was tough. We all miss him and I know it was tough for my niece especially since she’s never dealt with losing a loved one. I know she’ll always remember Marley as will my SiL since he was the first dog they loved.

The purpose of the process is to attempt to remove the biases humans have; it has the hallmark of the rational thinking of the Founders. It doesn’t work very well when the bias against some people is embedded in the process. That is what we have to remove, but there are plenty invested in not removing them.

For white Southerners I boil it down to not wanting to admit the old romantic stories about the war and the bravery were for a shitty cause. In the Civil War years, no problem admitting that you’re fighting to protect slavery staying legal but even by the 1880’s when Jubal Early started the Lost Cause and certainly by the 1930’s when Douglas Freeman wrote his Lee biography, slavery was seen as ugly by the public as a whole. I think it’s similar to how people like D’Souza attempt to make evil groups like the Nazis, Klan, Jihadists, etc comparable with modern liberals because they can’t sdmit their ideology has more in common with the broader points of those three and to admit that would be to acknowledge the flaws of their ideology and they’re not willing to do that.

I’m not saying conservatism equals Fascism but fascism is a right wing ideology. It differs from traditional conservatism but it is a right wing one. You can’t accuse liberals of wanting diversity to destroy the quote dominate culture while using the very similar rhetoric that was used by fascists against their opponents.

Yeah! And I think that shapes what we see now. We all knew someone who was alive from 1865-1920 even if we didn’t which is very likely know someone who fought in the war. And that’s where the family myth comes in. Let’s call this hypothetical family the Smiths. In 1861, Joe Smith goes to war. He’s caught up in the fervor. He believes slavery is just even if he’s too poor to own slaves. In 1870, Joe’s son John is born. John hears his Daddy make Lee a secular saint and passes this down to his kids. By 1900, Joe is an old man and John is father to James. James loves hearing Grandpa Joe’s stories even though his memory is off. And James even reads books by educated me who lionize the CSA cause and don’t mention the faults either personally or militarily of Lee. James has Joe II who serves in WWII and has bought all the old mythology even though he never knew Joe I. Joe II passes this down to his son and grandson. And thus we have people in 2018 who are buying second hand family lore as the absolute truth because Dad said his Grandpa was a brave man who didn’t care about slavery.

I’ve talked about this with our genealogists but people want their family story to be more romantic than it is. Hence how myths are born. Stories of royal ancestors or of national hero ones get believed. Family lore is part of family history too but it’s not true history.

Yep! Interestingly I’ve had some lore proven true. There is indeed a part of a township near Pittsburgh named after my great grandfather’s grandfather. Just as I did in fact have Partisan relatives in WWII in the Balkans but research begins new questions and some old ones remain unanswered. I still don’t know if my great Grandfather was friendly with Honus Wagner. Some get disproved too. My Nana’s Aunt did not come from Ireland to take care of her when their mother died. The aunt was American born though certainly spoke Irish. We need to be careful with our lore especially if it’s part of a larger story ie Southern motivation for seceding.

I don’t know much about how my mother’s family got to Georgia from Wales, but I know my great-grandfather’s family took him to Hamburg and apprenticed him to a whaling ship cook in exchange for his signing bonus (which probably kept the rest of the family alive). Ten years later he disembarked in San Francisco, and wound up travelling to St. Louis in search of German women.

Uh oh!

On the other side of the pond, Theresa May had a triple bogey in the Commons…

The start of a five-day debate on May’s deal was delayed by several hours, as MPs passed a historic motion finding the government in contempt of parliament for failing to publish in full the legal advice on Brexit.

MPs had already voted down a government compromise, which would have referred the dispute to parliament’s privileges committee, delaying it until after next week’s crunch vote on May’s deal.

With the prime minister still waiting to open the formal debate, MPs then inflicted a third defeat, passing a cross-party amendment tabled by MPs including Dominic Grieve aimed at strengthening the hand of parliament if the deal is voted down.

May’s basically backed into a corner now. If she doesn’t move forward then the government collapses, she’s out as Party Leader and possibly even out of the party altogether, and the nation finds itself back as Square One as the squabbles begin over just how “hard” or “soft” a Brexit the nation can stand.

The British government faces another dilemma; while it’s likely that the ECJ could end up ruling that the UK can unilaterally revoke Article 50 via a parliamentary vote - with some stipulations, no doubt - doing so would possibly engender a fatal split with the Conservative Party and create friction (to say the least) within the Labour Party, which is headed by a Leaver, Jeremy Corbyn, but whose membership is generally supportive of remaining in the EU.

Combined with Britain’s first-past-the-post electoral system, the Brexit referendum and it’s outcomes are going to be the source of a good deal of domestic political bickering for the foreseeable future.

Former PM Cameron’s bid to put an end to EU bickering within the Tories has backfired in the most disastrous manner possible.

It’s been argued by historians that the outcome of the Suez Crisis was Britain no longer being the global superpower it once was and I think that for a good many Brits, they have yet to find their place in the world. There’s a certain resentment among some about being second banana to the USA and you can clearly ascertain resentment about Britain being economically bested by Germany, not to mention their long-standing rivalry with France.

It’s a post-Empire hangover that stubbornly refuses to go away.

re: #76 Dr Lizardo

So Cameron made the disastrous call for the Brexit referendum and quit; May could not figure out a graceful way to handle this — maybe there was never one; and Labour is led by Corbyn, a walking disaster on his own. Are there any politicians in Parliament who have the skill to work through this in either the Tories or Labour? Do any of the smaller parties have capable leadership? Is a new election needed?

You know how wingnuts like to see WWII as “The Axis was on the verge of winning, then we stepped in and won the war”? And think the 1950s was the greatest period in world history because (of course) America was virtually unopposed as an economy powerhouse because most of the West was too busy rebuilding from the ashes of WWII?

That’s Britain, only for them the glory days stretch back even further. And the abrupt crash they suffered in the first half of the 20th, from “world leader” to “second-rate empire”? Yeah, that’s our next stop.

A new general election will probably be the ultimate outcome; that being said, the logical solution would be to go to the people and explain clearly and concisely that there is no way to disentangle the UK from the EU without causing perhaps irreparable damage to the economy and the livelihoods of millions of people and thusly, Article 50 is to be revoked and the UK will remain in the European Union.

Whomever would be tasked with delivering this unhappy news would have to recognize that it’s going to be a type of political seppuku, done for all the world to see. But the British simply need to accept that they no longer live in the days when “the sun never set on the British Empire” and that ‘Rule Britannia’ is nothing more than a pleasant ditty that needs to be forever consigned to the history books. The curtain has come down on that era of Britain’s history and they absolutely must acknowledge it, not try to escape to a heavily mythologized past.

Authoritarian leaders throughout history have often come to power on promises of restoring the nations they sought to lead to a long-lost “glorious past” that they could never hope to achieve in their current state. Hitler promised to return Germany to the days of “Blood and Iron,” but he had nothing of Bismarck’s cunning or diplomacy. Mussolini promised to bring about a new Roman Empire, but Italy was in such a sorry state in the 30s that they couldn’t even afford to build tanks that were fit to be called such. Putin keeps telling his people of the good ol’ days of the USSR, counting on the millions who feel things were better when they felt “strong” and “mighty” against the West. So on and so forth.

Who has sufficient status to break the news to the citizens and actually get it adopted? Would it have to be May herself or is there a member of her Cabinet who has this presence and authority?

Good question, to be honest. I don’t think anyone does - with perhaps the singular exception of Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. And she doesn’t get involved in politics.

As far as PM May goes, her credibility at this point is right up there with a turd that can’t be flushed. Corbyn is regarded by a good many as nothing less than the reincarnation of V.I. Lenin. Boris Johnson is a fatuous clown and anyone else on the British political scene is pretty much a bad joke (for example, Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg - a living, breathing caricature of a 19th century Victorian undertaker).

I’d say, just off the top of my head, that May’s working agreement Brexit deal is as dead as the dodo. And if the DUP now start making noises about a no confidence vote, it could very well prove the end of May’s government.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area.

Flynn’s fried by Mueller and spilled the beans on Trumpworld. Mueller agrees that this constituted enough cooperation to warrant no jail time (charges - ack - need coffee stat!).

That’s bad news for Trumpworld.

Flynn Junior thinks that this is a blessed event.

Of course, right wing nutters think that if you’re not someone in uniform you can’t criticize someone who dishonored the uniform, ignored their oaths and obligations.

The bulkshit and stench from the GOP is overwhelming these days, and it’s never ending.

Trump this morning is back at it with the tweets and trying to spin that the trade war mess he started is over because he’s got a deal in the works with China, and he even prefaced his claim by saying “not to sound naive”.

Yeah, he’s naive - and worse, he’s counting on his know-nothing base to be naive and ignore the damage he’s doing to the American economy, American foreign policy, and American national security with his dumbfuckery.

Thread:

It’s a lot along the lines of my tweet above and the response of magidiots who think that the uniform is a get out of prison free card because you can’t question their loyalty, when that’s exactly what you need to do when you’re conspiring against the US.

Flynn was an undeclared foreign agent who was working with Trumpworld to further an agenda that was at odds to American national security. He was busy installing people as part of the transition team who were compromised and complicit. He was covering for a compromised and complicit Trump (and Pence).

Yeah, he violated his oaths - de facto and de jure.

Military oath:

“I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”

Undeclared foreign agent means he violates “bear true faith and allegience to the US”. Obey the UCMJ? Yeah, violated that too.

His oath as NSA:

“I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.” This section does not affect other oaths required by law.

Yeah, Flynn violated his oaths. He dishonored his uniform. He disgraced the nation with his criminal misconduct, and the only reason he’s not in prison is because he was first to turn on Trumpworld and got a sweetheart deal.

Donald Trump is nearly as unpopular in small towns as he is in suburban areas and cities, signaling potential trouble for his re-election prospects, according to a survey that highlights the Republican president’s vulnerabilities.

The latest Grinnell College National Poll also shows just less than a third of Americans say they definitely plan to vote for him in 2020, while 41 percent say they’re certain to cast a ballot for someone else.

In rural areas — not including those living in small towns — 46 percent say they’ll definitely vote for him for a second term. But in all other geographic areas, there’s much higher skepticism about a second Trump term. Just 33 percent of those in small towns definitely plan to vote for him, while 27 percent in suburbs and 24 percent in cities say they will.

A majority of Americans — 54 percent — say they’re more hopeful for the country following last month’s election. There’s even greater optimism when it comes to expectations for the nation following the 2020 presidential election, with 58 percent saying they feel hopeful about the nation’s prospects after that milestone.

My favorite George Thomas quote, and one I keep on file to fling at any sort of CSA historical revisionist or apologist;

[T]he greatest efforts made by the defeated insurgents since the close of the war have been to promulgate the idea that the cause of liberty, justice, humanity, equality, and all the calendar of the virtues of freedom, suffered violence and wrong when the effort for southern independence failed. This is, of course, intended as a species of political cant, whereby the crime of treason might be covered with a counterfeit varnish of patriotism, so that the precipitators of the rebellion might go down in history hand in hand with the defenders of the government, thus wiping out with their own hands their own stains; a species of self-forgiveness amazing in its effrontery, when it is considered that life and property—justly forfeited by the laws of the country, of war, and of nations, through the magnanimity of the government and people—was not exacted from them.

Now what’s funny is even though their Dad is someone I have lots of criticism for but I like Jenna and Barbara Bush a lot, I don’t know, they just despite being first daughters and first granddaughters seem more modest and relatable than Meghan. Laura’s background fwiw was more modest than Cindy’s so maybe that’s why.

Because the proponents of the “Lost Cause” insist that the Confederacy was not a collection of slave states looking to protect their millions of dollars of “property” but instead brave men acting in the spirit of the Founders in opposing a tyrannical government that was attempting to destroy their “way of life.”

If you want to celebrate your family’s heritage and history of their role in the insurrection, then do so on private property and with private funding.

Meghan is far from the worst politician’s child I’ve seen but she’s got unfortunately pretty partisan when I thought that the way her father was treated by the party’s far right would make her drift more away from it. I don’t think she is akin to Bristol Palin or especially the Trump sons and Ivanka because she’s not a criminal but I think she could be more thoughtful. I really like Chelsea Clinton as well. I just love how she lets her critics shine with the nasty tweets she gets which I bet are considerably more than the other people I mentioned since we never had organized and concentrated hate directed towards the Bush girls the way the right definitely did with Chelsea.

Yes, and there were many things that were accepted back then that are not acceptable now. We need to be able to look at them in that light.

No, they’re not conservative at all but neither was Meghan for awhile. But it’s their personalities. Meghan has a little more of her Dad’s edginess. Jenna especially has her father’s down to earthness. Barbara seems a little more shy but both are definitely more liberal than their parents and grandparents were and I don’t think ti’s even a secret about it in their family. They just seem like good people. Their father until Trump was by far the worst President of my life but they were raised well. They don’t lack empathy at all.

I think that’s perhaps another reason why Jenna and Barbara seem more relatable, Jenna’s father in law used to be our Lt Governor but Henry Hagler isn’t politically active and I don’t think Barbara’s husband comes from a political family at all and I got a kick out of what they did after they got married in the Ocean and thought it was sweet they got married in Maine near their Grandfather’s home. We not only need to see that but we need to see that as a good thing. Yeah, it’s a good thing you can’t call a black man “boy” anymore. Just as it’s a good thing that a black man shouldn’t have to fear reprisal if he doesn’t address white men and women as sir and ma’am. Now if you want to call everyone sir and ma’am, that’s fine but the shit black men especially had to fear if they so much as addressed white people the wrong way is something that I’m glad has disappeared from our culture. We also need to acknowledge as white people that the ending of slavery was unfortunately not the end of struggle by a lon gshot.

Right, that was the whole premise of the Republican Party’s founding. Yep Bloody Kansas. What I’m talking about here though is how even if the 13th amendment did formally abolish slavery, it wasn’t like things become sunshine and flowers for African-Americans after that. The sharecropping system was awful in its own way and while we did learn about it in school, we didn’t learn the extent of it. I also wish we could have learned more about the Great Migration too. Reading Isabel Wilkerson’s The Warmth of Other Suns was such a fascinating read for me because I definitely thought about all the African-Americans I knew growing up who no doubt had parents or grandparents that left the rural South for more urban areas.

Undeclared foreign agent means he violates “bear true faith and allegience to the US”. Obey the UCMJ? Yeah, violated that too.

His oath as NSA:

Yeah, Flynn violated his oaths. He dishonored his uniform. He disgraced the nation with his criminal misconduct, and the only reason he’s not in prison is because he was first to turn on Trumpworld and got a sweetheart deal.

Can the Army do anything to strip him of his former rank and more or less toss his butt out of the military retroactively?

They don’t need him to be called general or associated with them any longer since he basically dishonored the uniform.

Two Suffolk County election workers and a local Independence party leader were charged with forging signatures on nominating petitions in an attempt to boost the chances of GOP candidates, according to a Wednesday Newsday report.

A local Republican party leader, Amos Goodman, is expected to be charged later this week on similar counts.

Election workers William Mann and Gregory Dickerson and party leader Patricia Mansir allegedly wrote false names, some belonging to dead people, on Green Party, Independence and Republican nominating petitions to try to increase the chances for the Republican candidates.

Well, George H W Bush’s grandfather Samuel Prescott Bush was born in New Jersey but made his way to Columbus Ohio through his work on the railroads.

He ended up as the general manager of the now gone Buckeye Steel Castings where they made railroad parts. Buckeye Steel was controlled at that time by Franklin Rockerfeller who was its president. Franklin of the famous Rockerfellers.

Samuel Prescott Bush is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery here on the near west side.

So they really have Ohio roots!

This has been today’s lesson in Ohio History…the history of a “flyover” state.

Family journeys are interesting. As you know, I have some Ohio roots too and in fact I still have some cousins there since Second Great Nana’s siblings stayed in Cleveland when Second Great Nana, Second Great Granddad, and Great Nana moved from Cleveland to the Pittsburgh area in the 1870’s. Priest I talked to said a lot of the Irish people left that part of Cleveland due the factories hiring Eastern European employees at cheaper wages.

I’m kind of hoping Trump pulls a Kanye during the funeral and points out this should be about him.

I know there’s an agreement that no one will talk bad about him, but if they talk about Bush as a good president, it might be hard for Trump not to interpret anything being said as a dig.

What I miss is frankly the New Deal consensus about the role of government. That government isn’t evil and it can in fact be used to improve our lives and that was something we all agreed upon until the right in both parties took advantage of the fact that many less well off whites were upset that liberals in both parties wanted that to mean something for people of other races, genders, and sexual orientation.

Which was sold to those less then well off whites as a way for the conservative right to gain power through them because they wanted to get away from the New Deal. And they did it as it cost them in taxes and as we see today, they don’t like their money touched especially by the poors…no matter their color.

James was an abolitionist minister. Obadiah, his father, died at sea returning home from California in 1851. He was planning to bring the family west - and if he’d taken James S. to California, how history might have changed!

DNA is a very limited tool in my mind. As others are pointing out, everyone speaking here about GHWB seems to be taking digs at Trump, but that’s not what they meant. Trump is a fucknut who was, is, and always be, damaged goods and his entire admin is corrupt and compromised.

His personality is likewise damaged, so when you talk about the love a son has for his dad, or a foreign leader talks about his leadership skills, it’s impossible not to note that none of this will be spoken of when Trump eventually faces this situation.

Mortality makes you introspective, and Trump lacks that just as surely as he lacks empathy.

Those speaking about GHWB can disagree with his policies or outcomes, but note that he served the nation in ways few ever have or ever will. They can talk about how he adored his family and sought to help others post-presidency with his charitable efforts. Etc.

You will be hard pressed to find anyone who will be able to say that of Trump.

there was such a time and that requires me to bring out an oldie but a goodie:

Why is politics no longer a clash of value systems, each of which is in some way valid; a competition between basically well-intentioned people who see the world differently?

Why has it become, not even a conflict of interests, but instead a degenerative, brutal struggle for office in which each side with righteous indignation believes only the other is and only can be capable of behaving despicably?

david brooks wrote this in 2003 (i am not otherwise a fan of his)
and he did both-sider it a bit. then it was ‘only’ 2003

over the years i have edited it somewhat for when i think it’s appropriate. because i see only one side, with righteous indignation…. and i’ve made other changes as well. this is the exact quote

hell even mccain said, of obama something like - “we come from different parties, not different countries.”

For all the damage that Trump has done to date to our body politic, he hasn’t been responsible for the thousands of American deaths and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths that resulted from W’s misguided war and incompetent follow-up. Today, the supplier is back in court asking for a temporary restraining order and an asset seizure. Here’s an article about it, but there’s one error. LLR wasn’t trying to offload $46 million in product to to a liquidator. It was trying to offload 46 million *pieces*-dresses, leggings, t-shirts.

This I agree with. I do think this whole thing gets romanticized by the media and I think its genesis was in the Tip O’Neill-Reagan stuff fifteen years ago or so. Most of this stuff was between other white politicians and journalists. I don’t hate President Bush but he did play with racial fire when he did the Willie Horton ad, he did go with Reagan who race baited too, etc.

439
HappyWarrior  Dec 5, 2018 • 10:25:05am

I also think it’s easier for politicians who are already doing well to disagree than those of us who get negatively impacted by bad Republican policies to go “Well, he was a good person at least” because A) We don’t know that person and B) That may well be but their policies turned my life upside down. As far as I’m concerned, the Republican Party has never seriously addressed the race baiting it did to get Southern whites to support them and the reason for that frankly is they’re still doing it. Corey Stewart ran a campaign that George Wallace would have been proud of just this Fall.

Hey now. Be nice. I hand raised a baby raccoon who lost his mom in a steel leg hold trap when he was only a day or two old,I was maybe 10 or so. He was my buddy and very sweet. Unless you tried to go after me, as my mom found out when she yelled at me while I was holding him. He bit her. So, I had to begin the process of teaching him to be a raccoon who had to survive on his own. I didn’t do too bad on that one, I eventually let him go in the woods behind our house. There was a pond and a stream with fish back there. He came back to see us a few times. With his own wife and kids after the first year. I loved the goofy little shit.

And it’s been like that for a long time - I recall that line of dialogue in L.A. Confidential where after Russell Crowe’s character Bud White roughs up a wife beater, he tells him, “You’ll be out in a year and a half. I’ll get cozy with your parole officer. You touch her again, I’ll have you violated on a kiddie raper beef. You know what they do to kiddie rapers in Quentin, don’cha?”

That scene was set in the 1950’s, and granted, it’s fictional, but I’m pretty sure that even back then, pedos simply weren’t tolerated by anyone.

Well before the webcast ended they said they had plenty of telemetry so it will be interesting to see what they find. Will also be interesting to see what NASA and the FAA will have to say about this failure as well. I fully expect a ban on further ground landings until they find out what happened.

And please let us not forget that McCarthyism happened in the 50’s too. And that plenty of right wing mainstays have their genesis in apologizing for McCarthy’s shit either then ala Buckley/NR or now with Ann Coulter.

Pedo allegations are an oldie but a goodie, like a jazz standard with a fresh arrangement; in this case, Pizzagate and QAnon are simply a fresh take on the Satanic Panic of the 1980’s. It’s pretty much the same crap, but instead of Satanic ritual abuse taking place in day care centers, now it’s in pizza parlors and it’s being committed by the elites.

What is interesting is how the Epstein case keeps on getting covered up — and that involves a real case with real people, not a fantasy. I recall how a rising star in Chicago politics, Mel Reynolds, ended up in prison for statutory rape. Somehow the authorities haven’t been interested in investigating Epstein further — maybe too many politicians on both sides who were involved with teenage girls below the age of consent.

The batshit right”s pedo obsession looks like a form of political misdirection. There is about a Super-Max worth of RWNJ preachers locked up for molesting children, with new cases cropping up every week. This hits hard at the local level, where the conspiracists find their main audience, and therefore where they see the main need for deflection.

Indeed - the “Lolita Express” wasn’t some wacko conspiracy theory, it was very much the real deal and like you said, everyone just pretty much chooses to look away. Maybe because the reality of it is far too horrifying, and it involves real people and insane fantasies about pedo activity in the non-existent basements of pizza parlors and pedo camps out in the middle of fucking nowhere is somehow easier for people to cope with.

Why the fuck should she owe him anything? And you know what, I’m sure Michelle and Barack knew if they didn’t do anything, it would get a ton of stupid hot takes too. I’m old enough to remember when people accused Bill and Hill of being secret friends with the Trumps and now Hill shows her visible disgust with the man, she’s being too “rude.”

Yeah but Trump is obviously a phony on religion. I think even the religious right knows that.

Why? As far as I can tell, they don’t land in populated areas. They don’t ground every plane when one crashes.

And if the Evangelicals weren’t power hungry hypocrites, they’d criticize him for this. Hell even though I’m not religious at all, I always go along with the pre-meal that my niece learned when she went to a Christian pre-school.

A normal President would have had a pre-funeral briefing to be familiar with the various usual expections.

But the moron is smarter than the rest of the evangelicals…

Deep down the Evangelicals are just power hungry. They didn’t care about legalized abortion until they saw it as a means to gain some political power that they weren’t getting on other issues.
