The markets forgot nothing-they never knew it. Fund managers want to buy on rumor, so they’re ahead of everyone else. These days it’s hard to have a moment to reflect on the quality of the rumor. There is also a long history of everyone doing the same thing so no one can be singled out for blame.

Finally got a SSD for my old Mac… I hope I successfully move the system drive info correctly.
It bothers me for some reason that the industry pushed the acronym “SSD”. There is no “D”rive. It’s just flash memory mated to a data interface to plug into computers so to as allow backwards compatibility.
You’re going to be pleased/shocked with the performance gain.
I had a 2010 iMac and still have a 2010 MacBook Pro where I swapped out their respective optical drives for SSDs. Massive speed gains. Don’t have the numbers handy, but boot times alone decreased significantly.
I’m currently using my dad’s 2013 iMac, where the boot drive is a SSD in a USB3 external case. Same deal: even with the overhead of being an external drive, it still boots faster than the internal mechanical one.
I haven’t dealt with the hybrid drives where Apple puts the OS on the SSD portion of the drive, but I’d imagine that’s a similar story.

i installed an ssd in a new dell Win7 box in 2012. it boots in about 30 seconds

I got a good electric piano with 88 keys for my son at Guitar Center for $300; it only has the sustain pedal, but for him, that’s ok. Go to a music store like that. They have all different levels, some with all three pedals, and you can decide based on your budget. They also vary from a synthesizer feel all the way up too full weighted keys.

I think the report was that a hydraulic pump on one of the landing legs was failing, so the fldecided not to risk it. It looks like all the legs came out, though.
The legs came out at the right time, but the hydraulic pump “locked-up” (Musk’s own words) earlier when needed for the grid fins to control its direction and movements. So it started to spin and wobble and that probably put it out of it’s landing spot coordinates. It then must have gotten it’s hydraulics working again right before it slowed and the legs came into position.
In the video Musk posted you can see it is still spinning as it is coming down…watch the black and white colorings on the booster body.
We didn’t get to see the landing at first because when it started to spin and wobble they cut the video feed. It was pretty evident things were not going well when they cut the video.

I grew up playing alto and baritone saxophone (sat right next to Cleto Escobedo in band for junior high and high school!). He couldn’t sightread for shit so I was first chair in concert band, but I wasn’t going to play alto next to him in jazz band…I’m no dummy! I absolutely loved playing music.
Heck, I want to learn to play piano, too! That’s why I’m hoping to find something that’s got full keys. I’m looking at Amazon right now at that.

There are uncomfortable questions you have to answer like, “do you not believe he is the most qualified person to be vice president? did you believe he was in 2016? so what changed between then and now?” Then there’s the issue of timing, if you announce before the primaries, what are the odds that the Vice President doesn’t just challenge you in the primaries? If you wait until the convention, what happens if there’s a floor fight for VP?
The only way it works is if the VP decides they don’t want to run a second time. And no VP in their right mind will do that, barring a major medical issue. Because win or lose, you automatically become the front runner for the next election cycle, assuming you want the big desk (unless you’re Dan Quayle).

That would be wonderful! My dad had taught himself to play mandolin and banjo. I tried to get her to try the guitar, but she said that the strings hurt her fingers and she won’t pursue that. But then, she’s only 11 and the fact that she has the wherewithal to practice an instrument without any help from us and have a blast doing it means she might change her mind at some point.

I think Trump picked Pence in sort of an old school “who helps me convince the evangelicals that I’m not actually the anti-christ” move. There was a time when picking someone from a different region, or different wing of the party made sense. But the GOP has gotten much more monolithic in the last 30 years.
On the Democratic side, it still makes some sense. I suspect if the 2020 Democratic nominee is a blue state progressive type, you’ll probably see a red state moderate type as the VP nominee (not quite Gore-Lieberman, but be prepared). Or if it’s someone from the Senate, I could see a governor getting the VP nod; or vice versa.
Then again, it also depends on what you expect your VP to do besides wake up each morning and check on your health.

What you would do is convince Pence to announce some plausible reason to announce he is choosing not to run for a second term as VP. Honestly, I never got the same feel from electronic drums. I would favor standard drums just because I feel like it’d be easier to learn the mechanics and the feel and the way different strokes play on a standard drum head. But that’s me.

88 is the same as a piano. Anything written for piano can be played on it. It is bigger but with weighted keys responds to the hand like an acoustic instrument.
Smaller keyboards are good for traveling or playing in a band. Or if space is limited.

It depends on what level y’all can play at. For classical compositions, you’d need all 88 keys. For most pop music, 61 would be fine. 44 keys would be for the rank beginner and your girl would probably outgrow it pretty quickly. Lighted keyboards show which keys should be pressed — good for learning tunes straight out of the box.

My 2 cents. A decent drum kit will run you a lot more money. After all, it’s skins. And wood. Which need tuning, and all the things involved with brass (cymbals). Just as a cheap guitar can kill inspiration, so can cheap anything musically. You can pick up an electronic kit much cheaper and with a decent powered monitor you can get up to speed. Then see if you want to sink into a good kit.
I was going towards drums before I started playing guitar. I practiced on the old thick phone books.

This is the advice my parents were given when I said I wanted an electric guitar. They got me an SG Jr., which would be highly sought after now. But I saw a cool looking guitar at the shop and traded it for a non-reverse Firebird which is worth essentially nothing even though it’s from the 1960s as well. Oh well.

88 is the same as a piano. Anything written for piano can be played on it. It is bigger but with weighted keys responds to the hand like an acoustic instrument.
Smaller keyboards are good for traveling or playing in a band. Or if space is limited.

There are wonderful weighted 88 key digital pianos out there. We bought a Yamaha YDP 223 years ago and it is still as good as the day we bought it. Has it all.
Yamaha is kick ass full size digital, and it sounds fantastic. You learn on something like that, you play anything.

For his birthday, I’m going to get my son a Launch Key 61 Midi Controller. It comes with Ableton Live Lite and is designed to integrate with it. They also make 49 key and 25 key versions. They all include buttons that you can use to control tracks or set as drums sounds.
I also bought him this multipad percussion module for Christmas. That way he can grab it, some sticks, and go to a friend’s and play.

It’s not always a tuning key and ear. My current drummer, who is a real musician who can sit in with orchestras uses a drum dial precision tuner along with pitch paired sticks. You can tell.
I guess what I’m attempting to say is don’t go cheap just to save a buck. There are deals, but you will get what you pay for. You will not hear what you hear on songs and the frustration will screw you because you are just starting out.
A used set of decent drums is fine as long as no issues are there. Fun fact. You can buy a small cheap kit and break a head and pay about 10% of the price of the entire kit to replace it. One important fact. As long as you do not overpay, you can recoup some money if you choose to unload or move up.
Just my 2 cents. Hope this helped in some small way.

Our worship team is blessed to have a couple of professional drummers volunteer to play on Sundays. I know exactly how sensitive they are. Mixing them is one of a competent sound man’s greatest challenges - alongside controlling those damned guitarists with their amplifiers blaring out across or under the stage.

It is in the hands eventually, but hands do not become better with an instrument that will not respond.
Watch for this on Craigslist or seek it out. It’s the later version of what we bought. It flat out kicks ass. It has it’s own speaker and that’s what ours sounds like.

I almost bought a used set of Yamaha drums earlier this year as I was taking lessons at the time. They were a 5-piece Stage Custom with all the hardware including a good snare drum. The guy asked for $800, and that included the throne and cheap crappy Sabian cymbals. New, this set will run you close to a grand NOT COUNTING CYMBALS, and this is an entry level set that with new heads (I highly recommend you replace the heads if the set is new) sounds awesome.
P.S. I didn’t buy it, and I bought a condo a few months later, so in my situation electronic drums would obviously be the practical choice.

The only thing worse is a violin. There’s a little peg inside that separates the top and bottom. If that slips even a little bit, it completely changes the sound. I didn’t know this and my middle son suffered for it. He could play well, but it was so quiet that he wasn’t getting chair positions. I didn’t find out until I bought him one - we were renting, and he’d had that one for a couple of years - and the sound was so loud. I partially blame the instructors for not figuring it out, since they were supposedly the experts.

And a GOOD wood starter set will set you back $1000 to $1500. The cheap ones are just junk wood with wrap on them. 2 wet summers later…..boink.
My drummers kit, which is his lowest level kit as it sits in my basement where we practice. The Evans kick head is $45 by itself.

My “adopted son” is a very good drummer, and I can vouch for this. I helped him buy his current kit. He lost his precious crash cymbal in a windstorm this fall, and we couldn’t find a replacement at all. We had to buy a cheaper set of cymbals just to get some that would work together, and they are sure not what his others were. We’re on the lookout on ebay and will be for months, trying to find one.

In most things musical you ultimately get what you pay for. There are good deals, and they come and go. As I suggested, if you know a guitar player get input from them before buying a guitar.
And so on. A drum kit is about 8 musical instruments with about 50 levels of quality.

From experience, I can say electronic drums are much better for experimental, random noodling for beginners- for both the musician and the people around the musician.
Which, with drums is a pretty big concern.
