Just amazed at seeing my Apple Watch perform an EKG and it lets me send a PDF of the test to my doctor…

1,000 votes destroyed and who knows how many votes altered or totally fabricated. At this point, suggesting rerunning the election would be like giving the NC GOP a mulligan and saying “This time, don’t let us catch you.”

As I’ve said repeatedly—there is NO difference between Republicans and Soviet Communists. Both believe that a tiny elite should have absolute power over the masses and they will do anything to secure and increase that power.

So if you were to say “Kick the Bucket” heaven forbid, your watch would call the funeral home on auto-dial and send the gps coordinates for a speedy pickup?

I have said that we might well have gotten a better president by picking someone at random out of the phone book. In fact, one of the political comedy shows should do just that: Pick a random person over 35 years old, interview the candidate on camera about his/her ideology, background, and politics and compare the results to Trump.

But other than rerunning the election, what options are there? You could disqualify the Republican because of his knowing participation in this criminal scheme but then do you just automatically seat the Democrat? This is likely to cause equal controversy. Or do you replace the Republican candidate with the man who should have won the primary but for the illegal actions on behalf of Harris?

In light of the revelation today that the executive head of the NC GOP knew about allegations of electoral fraud by the Harris campaign and did nothing, I’d say that it’s relatively impossible to run a fair and legal rerun election in NC-09.

Well, this is strange.

Looking over the agenda for the village board meeting Monday night, they have swearing in the new board as the last item on the agenda. (It usually comes right after approving minutes of the previous meeting, which is normally first.)

It would appear they’re trying to get one more board meeting out of me.

Well, there is the issue that although Paul Manafort recommended Mike Pence as the VP candidate, it could have been for other reasons than alleged Russian rodent copulation (off the top of my head I can think of one reason: Shore up the Christian vote).

If that was the case, then Mike Pence isn’t really guilty of anything (unless Robert Mueller has something, or the state of Indiana moves forward with its E-mail case against him).

Agnew wasn’t involved in any Watergate-related criminal activities; it would be great if Pence could be thrown out for tax evasion like Agnew but that would be too unlikely.

Young Republican women are aggrieved, outnumbered, defiant. And they aren’t going to apologize for loving the guy in the White House.

“They say we’re white supremacists, racist, misogynistic, and we have internalized misogyny,” said Cammie McMahan, 19, the College Republicans’ secretary, who wore a G.O.P. T-shirt, and a frown. I’d asked her and her friend Caitlyn McKinney, 19, what it was like being a conservative woman on their overwhelmingly liberal campus. “Name-calling is the first place they go,” said Caitlyn, who has that lilting North Carolina accent that makes everything sound gentle, even when it’s not. “They say they want to be all intersectional and everything,” said Cammie, “except when it’s us.”

It’s sort of noted in the article, where the women they interviewed were complaining about being able to get dates because of their conservative views. (That echos the complaints of White House interns.)

The article title also notes that problem, people assuming they are white supremacists because they are conservative. Apparently the women interviewed do not see that if you align yourself with a party which promotes that, and you say “that’s my party,” then you will be seen that way. (I would have asked how they feel about Reps. Steve King or Steve Scalise.)

The one woman interviewed about the Silent Sam statue holding forth on “law and order” being the reason it needs to be put back up also seems to be unaware or disingenuous about how that might be viewed as a white supremacist position.

More GOP corruption:

Hawley, who beat McCaskill in Missouri, is now under investigation for using state funds to bolster his campaign. The Republican AG in Missouri, Ashcroft, will be looking into the matter, although it’s not clear he has ability to truly investigate (lacks subpoena powers).

Ashcroft has now agreed to investigate. As the Star notes, it’s unclear how deeply this inquiry will probe: “Ashcroft’s office has authority to investigate election-related offenses but lacks subpoena power.”

And yes, in case you were wondering, Jay Ashcroft is the son of former Senator and U.S. Attorney General, John Ashcroft. If he hasn’t been in the legal or political big leagues before, he’s certainly been in the vicinity.

The GOP have become so desperate to hold onto power that they’ve broken laws and now are actually writing new ones to void the results of elections. When I said four weeks ago that the numbers were so stacked against them that the efforts they’d engage would be obvious, I never thought it would turn out like this.

Tillerson’s statements about Trump not caring about the Law would seem a liability.

Not so with about 35% of America. Trump’s 35% fan base doesn’t care one bit about laws, ethics, human rights, or basic civility. All they want is a White Power agenda pushed forward.

Rant on:

So last night the Bernie bros swarmed my twitter feed, and I began blocking them en mass. They spewed all the usual nonsense, and I’ve got to wonder how many of them voted for Trump over Hillary in 2016 just to prove the point. Because they can’t get over fact that Bernie lost.

One of them even trotted out a map of the 2016 general election outcome, which shows lots of red to be sure, but doesn’t reflect that the red isn’t where most people actually live.

Empty space is what the GOP are good for - between the ears and the like, but the Bernie bros are the leftist equivalent. And they’re just as dangerous because they too are impervious to facts and logic.

That Bernie’s also doing the misogynistic thing too isn’t all that surprising. It’s patronizing and demeaning - and meant to show primacy and that she should be put in her place.

Thing is, that she’s more a Democrat than Bernie ever was, and she’s already doing more to shake up the system than Bernie has done in decades of serving in Congress or public office. I don’t even have to agree with 90% of what AOC says or believes, but she’s already doing her district proud by identifying what’s wrong with Congress, politics, and the redistribution of wealth to the rich from everyone else that is the driving goal of the GOP.

Good morning from SoCal. You folks east of Los Angeles best watch that storm. It had a bigger kick than predicted on the coast. Tough week for a vacation in China if you a highly placed tech exec.

American tech executives warned about travel to China
gizmodo.com
Executives in the tech industry are being warned about traveling to China as some experts speculate that the Chinese government could retaliate over the arrest of Huawei’s Meng. The 46-year-old Meng, who sometimes goes by the name Sabrina or Cathy, isn’t just the CFO of Huawei. She’s also the daughter of founder Ren Zhengfei, who has close ties to the People’s Liberation Army, the name for China’s armed forces.

Shaun Rein of the China Market Research Group told the Sydney Morning Herald today, “If I were a high level exec at Google or Cisco I wouldn’t visit China anytime soon.”

Rex Tillerson repeatedly had to stop Trump from breaking the law in the White House

“So often, the president would say here’s what I want to do and here’s how I want to do it and I would have to say to him, Mr. President I understand what you want to do but you can’t do it that way. It violates the law,” Tillerson said.

Trump would get very frustrated when they would have those conversations, he said.

“I’d say here’s what we can do,” Tillerson said. “We can go back to Congress and get this law changed. And if that’s what you want to do, there’s nothing wrong with that. I told him I’m ready to go up there and fight the fight, if that’s what you want to do.”

Tillerson said Trump rose to power by tapping into something that the American people felt very strong about and using the tools of the day such as Twitter to do it.

“I will be honest with you, it troubles me that the American people seem to want to know so little about issues, that they are satisfied with a 128 characters,” Tillerson told Schieffer.

Which only highlights the minuscule grain of truth in Trump’s meadow-muffins of tweets about the recent midterms: control of the Senate is way more important than the House - since A), that Chamber can be a near-impassable roadblock for any progressive legislation if they want to (And I’m certain that under Mitch McConnell’s Leadership, they will want to), and B) the Senate has to approve appointments. Not to mention at this point the administration has the smell of death on it, and Christie tends to be risk adverse. He probably still thinks he’s got a chance at running for the Oval Office again.

Given what will be left of the GOP after the Trump scandal finally blows up, he may be right. Every single one of them will be tainted, and the ones who aren’t will be despised by the Trump cultists who are the GOP base.

Or else Big Chris is going to try to hedge his bets, and audition for the role of “token Republican” in the next Democratic President’s Admin.

The GOP repeats itself? No, it’s the idiotic American voter who repeats themselves by forgetting all the ills of the prior GOP administration. It’s been a short bit, let’s check in on Alan “How did that little girl end up in my bed?” Dershowitz:

“You know it’s so ironic, people complain all the time that President Trump may have dangled pardons in front of people and that constitutes tampering with witnesses and bribery,” Dershowitz attempted. “Think about what the government does every day, what prosecutors do every day? They literally bribe witnesses, by their freedoms, sometimes their lives and their money.”

“When the government offers less time in prison to a witness to get their testimony, that constitutes bribery,” he asserted before backtracking and saying a court of appeals that previously made that ruling saw it struck down.

Exactly. If it were Tucker Carlson or Jesse Walters or Lumpy Hannity getting the job, it would be the same problem. It’s not because she’s a woman. It’s because she’s a FNC bot. That’s profoundly insulting to the women who have held this job who were qualified.

I predict right now that Trump is going to end up blaming Mueller for the economy before this is all over, claiming that the time and energy he’s “wasting” on his defense could be spent instead trying to work out trade deals or device economic policy. If you think that’s a stretch, I should point out that that’s exactly what Nixon tried to do with Watergate, blaming the recession and stagflation on the ongoing investigation.

It’s a common nominator organizations where the power structure is unsound, be it a family, a corporation or a congregation. And in fanatic circles, the power structure just about always is unsound.

Did you know that the few surveys which had religious and political extremism on the list of possible common denominators for child sexual abuse, it always made it to the top 5 common denominators?

I would imagine the numbers are similar for sexual abuse across the board.

note the sexual aspect is only one
anytime the power structure (of any org, whether profit or not for profit) is ‘unsound’ or immoral or questionable in some way there will likely be abuses all over the place

because it creates a culture that pervades
and that culture becomes approving and accepting of all sorts of bad behavior

Charity Navigator ratings is a good place to start.
How much of the money they collect goes to the purpose asserted, how much to overhead, fundraising, etc.
There are a couple of charities I refuse to donate to based on longstanding issues that don’t always show in the ratings - such as the ARC issues and there were issues around Wounded Warrior Project a few years back too.

At those prices, they ought to be sipping their gin drinks through fancy twisty glass straws, not plastic or paper.
Also, who drinks a cocktail through a straw? The fruity cocktails with a little parasol stuck in them that one sips poolside, maybe, but real cocktails? I’ll admit I don’t drink many cocktails, but it seems odd to me. People have taken up drinking way too many things through straws and from adult sippy cups (aka travel mugs.)

I’ve always seen a strong pro-immigrant attitude among most of the members of the Mormon Church. Not so strong as to make citizenship any easier, but they send kids out all over the world on missions, requiring them to learn the local language before they get there, to some extent at least. They want to bring people from everywhere to Utah, at least for a visit.

Not saying Bundy deserves any hint of slack.

And their church needs to let women wear pants, to church and everywhere.

I can’t imagine how it must feel to be so utterly disrespected by the alleged Commander in Chief.

It’s the whole way he treats this. IT’s all a rating game to him. We’ll see how he feels when he’s lumped in behind Buchanan.

During the Romney campaign we learned that there is a very “porous” relationship between the LDS and the Mexican border. Some of Romey’s forbears did time-out in a Mormon Mexican enclave, IIRC.

Slightly O.T. i read this yesterday. it was a comment. i cant attribute it

similar to my thinking wrt 2A

Why isn’t the penalty for not following FARA, Foreign Agent Registration Act, first offense, mandatory minimum, is you can never in your life, register as a Foreign Agent for any country, and a fine equal to 3x the money your received as that illegal agent?

Why do we tolerate such blatant corruption.

It’s not like the average Joe or Jane, without noticing, finds themselves negotiating with a foreign government. People who do this are highly connected. That’s why the foreign government is willing to deal with them.

This should be talked up and presented as a bill, and make the Republicans defend the root of much of the Trump corruption.

Nobody doing things above board would be harmed or even inconvenienced by this.

So the Confederate statue of “Silent Sam” has to be re-erected at UNC according to state law and people are wondering where to put it and in what context.
I have the following proposal:
Put him right back where he was…but with one addition. Place a nearby statue of an African American soldier of the 54th Mass Regt with bayonet fixed and rifle leveled at the charge coming right at him.

And Mitt served his mission in France.

The Mormon border-crossing was full of illegalities, mostly centered on polygamy, which was also illegal in Mexico, but there wasn’t much enforcement. There was a revolution going on. Great book: Fourth Wife: Polygamy, Love, and Revolution

There was also an outpost of on-the-run polygamists in Canada.

Freepers are debating this exact question. Some think if Trump does it, it must be right and good. Others disagree, citing Sessions as a poor choice.

Ah the true believers versus the people who think Trump can just do whatever. Barr will backfire on him. He only got this job because he got Trump’s attention with that op-ed praising the Comey firing.

So you’re posting on the platform of a pedo-satanic cabal? BTW you can’t complain about the fucking “elite” and then worship Donald Trump for being a successful businessman and support his cabinet full of other rich fuckers.

Logic is not a strong suit for these people.

I know where there’s a Vietnam vet’s hand that would slap this buffoon cross-eyed if given a legal chance.

“Great ratings, maybe you all can come to my funeral and the ratings will be even higher. It will be great. You’ll talk nice about me like how people did Bush.”

“Big crowd…looks like it sold out every seat…not as fast as if I was in the box…”
Which is true I suppose. I’d pay a thousand bucks to attend that party.

Incidentally - has Trump mentioned Pearl Harbor yet today, or is he too busy railing about the Witch Hunt?

He did… but Heather Nauert thinks that D-Day was the height of German-US relations. /yield the floor to Senator Blutarsky.

Can you imagine how she’ll react when ambassadors from other countries get her in front of them and start to explain the human toll of Trump’s policies? If she doesn’t tune them out completely, she should crumble in shame.

Maybe they are complaining about the elite who believe in laws and regulations; real Trumpsters could be Ayn Rand aficionados who worship pure capitalism where the wealthy make all the rules and everyone else must subordinate themselves to the oligarchy. After all the oligarchy is working diligently to replace the Constitution with something more favorable to their business interests and their progeny.

I would be surprised if she were capable of shame. I think if you are a Fox News talking head you are basically shameless.

I agree: AOC definitely has a handle on the right uses of social media (and a refreshingly TNS attitude - for a Democrat).

But IMO she’s still just a bit too raw: she ought to able to troll Twitter jackwads like Donny Jr. without the implicit threats (‘cuz you just know he’s going to go off and whine about it)

You mean like Chelsea responds? That’s not AOC’s style.
