It’s GOP-nomics.

The tax scam is their thing. They wanted to redistribute wealth to the millionaire class on the backs of everyone else, and the debt explodes concurrent to the economic slowdown as companies retrench (layoff workers and offshore to avoid trade war damage), and shareholder distributions while workers don’t see wage gains.

This is the outcome they wanted.

Unfortunately we need two of them: Pence must go too. Pence won’t be embarrassing on the world stage just devious and destructive. Trump doesn’t really care about judges or the culture war; but Pence certainly does and he knows how to operate the levers of power to help the ensure the victory of his abhorrent ideology. But this really needs to wait till January 3 so that Ryan doesn’t become President.

I’ve been saying this from the beginning… I do not want Trump to die in office, I don’t want him to have to resign because of some health issue either. Those things make him a martyr. I want him impeached, convicted, and removed from office; then I want him indicted, tried, and convicted. He can live out his life in a reopened Alcatraz federal prison/library for convicted presidents

How can they write a counter report if there isn’t a report? Maybe the counter report is based on the questions that Mueller gave Trump with 1 to 2 pages per question. So the report would consist now of the question + Trump’s response + (possibly) the reason for rejecting the question. That could easily reach 87 pages.

There wouldn’t be the need for this report if Trump didn’t commit any crimes. If he was convinced he was not guilty of anything, he’d be quiet and let Mueller do his thing and exonerate Trump and his spawn.

But he, and everyone else in Trumpworld, knows he’s fucked (legal term), so they’re spewing this bulkshit early and often to try and claim that there’s another excuse/reason for this all while the indictments pile up (and they have - as they are taking on the air of Watergate, Teapot Dome, Iran Contra, combined in a blender and dumbed down by dumbassery).

re: #51 Big Beautiful Door

Consider just the Chunnel. It’d be a huge mess just to address that one point of entry.

Eurotunnel, however, believes that while “max fac” would be the most costly for business and consumers, the other option - the “customs partnership” favoured by May, under which the UK would collect tariffs for Brussels - would also mean extra checks and bureaucracy.

Sources close to the company say they have been making the case to ministers for months that any change that causes hold-ups will seriously disrupt businesses on both sides of the Channel that rely on the assumption that goods can be delivered quickly and on time.

John Keefe, Eurotunnel’s director of public affairs, said both options would cause delays and mean additional costs. “Eurotunnel transports 1.6 million trucks, carrying £120bn worth of goods across the Channel each year,” he said.

“Those goods feed industry, retail, and consumers and are delivered just in time, just in sequence and just when we need them. Additional checks at the border would delay the speed and frequency of delivery, result in wastage and lost production, and add to costs for consumers.”

He added that technology to prevent delays already existed, but said nothing could be planned or built until the UK and EU had decided on their future trading arrangements. Only then could precise specifications for checking goods be determined, equipment built, staff trained, and people educated about the new situation.

They’re going to blow up the British economy and they think it’s a benefit? It’ll be a mess - no one actually is saying this will result in economic growth.

I’ve written several times about athlete’s logs and how they can be seductive. Instead of focusing on your goals you get distracted and chase meaningless patterns and numbers - usually round ones - that may be interesting inside the log but don’t help you overall.

If you only check occasionally, sometimes you spot - wow look how far i’ve come - data points.

So I gotta crow:

Trump has had 29 appellate court judges confirmed in his first two years. That is basically double the last three presidents in their first two years (Obama had 16, three of which were in December 2010; Bush had 17; Clinton had 19). What’s interesting is the closeness of the votes.

Of Trump’s 29 confirmed appellate court judges, only 12 have received more than 60 votes in the Senate. Only 2 have been unanimously confirmed (90-0 and 91-0, a third was confirmed 95-1). Only one of Obama’s nominees got less than 60 votes; four were confirmed by unanimous consent, one by voice vote, and several with unanimous votes. Only 1 of Bush’s nominees got less than 60 votes, and only one other got less than 85 votes. Of Clinton’s vote, only two didn’t pass on a voice vote - and they both received over 60 votes.

Those numbers are rather staggering.

Seems like he wars with everyone because they don’t tell him what he wants to hear. Then he goes on a Twitter tirade and attacks them. If they kiss his ass, or the attack gets criticism then he reverses and says they get along fine, this is how tough negotiations go with him.

I’m going to need to keep my eyes out for rulings by his appointees to see just how terrible they are.

There is a reason that the first thing a lawyer tells you when you’re dealing with a criminal matter is: say nothing to anyone, speak only to me or my staff about the case. Hell, a lot of civil lawyers will tell you that too. Every statement you make about the case is grounds for discovery.

re: #58 KGxvi

Those numbers are rather staggering.

i realize you said appellate court.

notice the supreme court recent history and see any pattern?
kavanaugh 50-48
gorsuch 54-45

kagan 63-37

alito 58-42

breyer 87-9
ginsburg 96-3
thomas 52-48
souter 90-9
kennedy 97-0
bork 42-58
scalia 98-0

i realize what simple majority means, and that cloture is a joke
still, personally, any vote as close as thomas, gorsuch, kavanaugh, even alito should be a no go

it shows how desperate the in power party is and how actually objectively awful the nominee is

re: #45 Hecuba’s daughter

How can they write a counter report if there isn’t a report? Maybe the counter report is based on the questions that Mueller gave Trump with 1 to 2 pages per question. So the report would consist now of the question + Trump’s response + (possibly) the reason for rejecting the question. That could easily reach 87 pages.

as i said last thread, maybe mueller’s report just says:
“see the following list of indictments, sentencing memos, court memoranda, etc.”

Trump just doesn’t know how not to act like a petulant child. I can’t wait to hear about how WIlliam Barr wasn’t his choice and Barr was so, so, stupid and blah blah. I give the Trump-Barr honeymoon until the first day of Spring when Barr realizes that eh should have never sucked up for Trump in print.

That would be some weird full circle. But I guess I’d take Mitt over Trump and Pence. Wish we could get enough pressure to force them to nominate someone like Charlie Baker or Larry Hogan though or and I know you won’t like this but Kasich. I’d take Kasich over Mitt.

I wouldn’t.

Kasich would be attacking Roe v. Wade right off.

Mitt is malleable. Kasich is Kasich.

I dunno man. It’s tough. You do bring up a good point. I think Kasich would be more humane on immigration than the guy who made Kobach an adviser and still brags he’s to Trump’s right on immigration. Ideally, if you’re going to force a Republican on me, go across the Potomac and get me Hogan. Hogan is one of the few Republicans out there that realizes he governs people of all parties.

I’ve been saying this from the beginning… I do not want Trump to die in office, I don’t want him to have to resign because of some health issue either. Those things make him a martyr. I want him impeached, convicted, and removed from office; then I want him indicted, tried, and convicted. cmon folks not gonna happen

mitt only gets in the room if
- he’s nominated speaker and somehow pence and trump go ‘simultaneously’ - has never happened and they’d prob time it to avoid the disaster
- pence is booted and trump nominates mitt, he’s confirmed, and then trump leaves (G. Ford).
- not gonna happen. look who trump just nominated for un amb. he’ll nominate lots of others (from fox) or no one at all. and if congress doesnt confirm the post is left vacant…

No, I think the premise here is Pence gets booted and replaced with Mitt. I agree though. I think our best case scenario is a much weakened Pence takes over as caretaker and then it’s open war in 2020 in the GOP for Trump’s successor. Realistic case I see is impeachment but without a Senate conviction.
