Yep. Everything Trump has done should be reversed if Mueller determines that he engaged in obstruction, collusion or other crimes.

From the last thread:

A presidential candidate engaging in straight (no pun intended) blackmail like this is…

is…

Fuck, I don’t even know what this is. I can’t even begin to think of a comparison.

I imagine a lot of candidates for many offices have done such things. That’s pretty much what opposition research is about.

Digging up dirt on potential opponents (and Evangelicals might have been opponents considering Mr. Trump’s … ah … colourful past) is one way to neutralise them.

If the sleaze on Rev. Graham turns out to be true however, perhaps it will take him out of any future political aspirations (either as a kingmaker or worse, as a candidate for office).

I would think there is a difference between finding out if your opponent has done or is doing naughty things, and finding out something naughty on the part of some bystander and blackmailing them for support.

To an extent, yes. But I think most campaigns use opposition research in order to define their opponents in the minds of the electorate (whether done directly or passing the info on to a “third party” to circulate). I really can’t think of many examples where it’s been demonstrably proven that a candidate or their campaign got dirt on someone, whether opponent or kingmaker sort and went to them and said “support me or I make this public” - that’s the sort of thing out of bad movies.

Charlottesville ‘Crying Nazi’ says Convicted Heather Heyer Killer is an ‘Innocent man’, and Threatens More Violence (Newsweek, more at the link):

A man known as the “Crying Nazi” from his role in the Charlottesville alt-right protests posted a detailed post on alt-right site Gab threatening more violence after the conviction of Heather Heyer’s murderer this week.

In the post, Christopher Cantwell called James Fields an innocent man. Fields was found guilty of murdering Heyer on Friday. She was killed during the Charlottesville protests, which took place in August 2017, when Fields drove his car into a group of people. The 21-year-old has not yet been sentenced, but faces 20 years in prison, according to CBS.

Cantwell began his post by claiming Fields was not a necessary part of the alt right movement he stands for. “Charlottesville and the broader Left celebrate prematurely tonight,” Cantwell wrote, as reported by Raw Story. “The show trial and CONviction of James Fields is merely a symbolic victory for you, which you’ll forget in short order. He was not an intellectual leader or military necessity.”

He certainly deserves it and in my mind, as miserable as Trump is, McConnell is the bigger traitor because he should fucking well know better, but when Obama was elected, something broke in that mind/soul of his and he’s been a bitter, petty fucktard ever since.

from 2012:

TIME just published “The Party of No,” an article adapted from my new book, The New New Deal: The Hidden Story of Change in the Obama Era. It reveals some of my reporting on the Republican plot to obstruct President Obama before he even took office, including secret meetings led by House GOP whip Eric Cantor (in December 2008) and Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (in early January 2009) in which they laid out their daring (though cynical and political) no-honeymoon strategy of all-out resistance to a popular President-elect during an economic emergency. “If he was for it,” former Ohio Senator George Voinovich explained, “we had to be against it.”

snip

• Vice President Biden told me that during the transition, he was warned not to expect any bipartisan cooperation on major votes. “I spoke to seven different Republican Senators who said, ‘Joe, I’m not going to be able to help you on anything,’ ” he recalled. His informants said McConnell had demanded unified resistance. “The way it was characterized to me was, ‘For the next two years, we can’t let you succeed in anything. That’s our ticket to coming back,’ ” Biden said. The Vice President said he hasn’t even told Obama who his sources were, but Bob Bennett of Utah and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania both confirmed they had conversations with Biden along those lines.

snip

• David Obey, then chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, met with his GOP counterpart, Jerry Lewis, to explain what Democrats had in mind for the stimulus and ask what Republicans wanted to include. “Jerry’s response was, ‘I’m sorry, but leadership tells us we can’t play,’ ” Obey told me. “Exact quote: ‘We can’t play.’ What they said right from the get-go was, It doesn’t matter what the hell you do, we ain’t going to help you. We’re going to stand on the sidelines and bitch.”

Lewis blames Obey and the Democrats for the committee’s turn toward extreme partisanship, but he doesn’t deny that GOP leaders made a decision not to play. “The leadership decided there was no play to be had,” he says. Republicans recognized that after Obama’s big promises about bipartisanship, they could break those promises by refusing to cooperate. In the words of Congressman Tom Cole, a deputy Republican whip: “We wanted the talking point: ‘The only thing bipartisan was the opposition.’ “

Well, that’s pretty much what we knew from the beginning of Obama’s first term, that the R’s were just going to be the Party Of No from day one. The fact that he was able to get the stimulus (inadequately funded, and just barely enough to stave off disaster) and the ACA through was only possible because of Pelosi.

The idea that anyone else in the House could possibly be Speaker in this crucial time is just as stupid as plaid pants on a giraffe.

Yes — he claimed that others joined the club (African-Americans / Jews / Catholics) by adopting the WASP attitudes. But once again Douthat, a descendant of the WASPs he so worships, still proclaims their superiority.

Yes — he claimed that others joined the club (African-Americans / Jews / Catholics) by adopting the WASP attitudes. But once again Douthat, a descendant of the WASPs he so worships, still proclaims their superiority.

The intro to Douthat’s Wiki is revealing:

Douthat was born in San Francisco and grew up in New Haven, Connecticut.[1] As an adolescent, Douthat converted to Pentecostalism and then, with the rest of his family,[2] to Catholicism.[3]

No fanatic like a convert, eh?

So his WASPism is, um, conflicted.

There is a big influence of Opus Dei Catholicism in his writing, probably influenced by the Pentecostalism in his past. Again, no fanatic like a covert.

But his love/hate relationship with “WASP culture”, whatever is left of it in modern America, lives large in his OpEds in the NYT. Mostly, as a retired Catholic, I find him fatuous, infuriating, and one of the biggest mansplainers on the national scene.

This week, some of the worst humans on the planet gathered together for the very first American Priority Conference in Washington, DC. What the hell is that, you ask? It’s like CPAC, but like, for the people who were too terrible to even be at CPAC. People like Laura Loomer, Stefan Molyneux, Jack “Bumble Jack” Posobiec and Mike Cernovich.

There was a screening of Cernovich’s definitely terrible movie “Hoaxed,” some kind of talk about “MAGA” from Pastor Mark Burns, Laura Loomer talking about “Citizen Journalism,” a “Lipstick and Liberty” luncheon with Katrina Pierson and three other ladies I’ve never heard of, what must have been a truly hilarious and extremely short forum on “Arts and Culture on the Right” with Lucian “Too Dumb For Gateway Pundit” Wintrich, and all kinds of other exciting activities.

And would you believe it, practically no one showed up?

A Prominent White Supremacist Is An EMT In Virginia. Now The State Is Investigating Him. (Huffington Post)

Alex McNabb, a white supremacist podcaster who works as an emergency medical technician in southern Virginia, is under investigation by the state’s Department of Health, a spokesperson for the department confirmed to HuffPost.

McNabb, 35, is a frequent co-host of “The Daily Shoah,” a popular neo-Nazi podcast. On the show he regularly tells stories about being an EMT, often referring to patients by racist slurs and comparing black patients to animals.

An anonymous complaint was made on Nov. 26 against McNabb, who works as an EMT in Patrick County, according to Marian Hunter, public relations coordinator for the Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Emergency Medical Services. Because it’s an “open and active investigation,” Hunter did not describe the nature of the complaint.

His continued employment as an EMT, however, raises ethical and legal questions about whether an avowed racist and white nationalist can objectively make life-and-death decisions for patients of color, Jewish patients and other minorities, experts say.

First, that article is from 2017.

That article strikes me as not particularly well written:

President Donald Trump enjoys far stronger support among members of the military than the American public at large, according to the latest scientific Military Times poll.

Yet while Trump is especially popular among enlisted troops, officers have a much lower opinion of him.

And women and minorities in the ranks share similar skepticism.

Overall, about 44 percent of all troops surveyed in the Military Times poll have a favorable view of Trump, while roughly 40 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him. That’s a stark contrast to opinion polls of the general public, which have shown Trump’s popularity at less than 40 percent and an unfavorable rating as high as 56 percent.

[…]

I suspect the favorability rating, if surveyed today, would be lower, after the if-they-were-real-patriots-they-wouldn’t-want-a-raise bit by Trump.

As for why enlisted like Trump more than the officers - this is hardly surprising. Officers are better educated, while the enlisted ranks have, since the abolition of the draft, depended upon those who are attracted either because of a) some sense of militarism, or b) those who just need a job to get out of the house. The latter are probably now soured on Trump, the former will always been willing foot soldiers.

I shudder at the thought, knowing the horrible things about him that are already in the public domain.

Trump’s always struck me as that kind of shyster that has dirt on damn near everyone he deals with - for him, it’s leverage in his “business dealings”.

Yet ironically, he’s utterly oblivious to all the dirt that can be found on him. Maybe because so much of it is publicly known, he figures ‘it’s already out there. so ya got nuttin’ on me’.

In a genuinely twisted Trumpian way, it’s a smart strategy - get your dirty laundry aired in public, and your foes really don’t have much. That being said, it’s his likely criminal dealings with Russian organized crime figures (money laundering, etc.) which he’s tried to conceal - in his typical half-assed way - that’ll be his downfall.

I’ll be breaking out a suit to wear tomorrow (I don’t usually do that for village board meetings but the local press will be there taking photographs for the newspapers).

I’ll also be wearing my military ribbons (allowed under law) and my Gold Star Family lapel button as a subtle dig: Well, you replaced the disabled vet with a neo-Nazi. (I don’t mind losing the election, but literally anyone else in town.)

I wasn’t aware Twitter was around in 2006. I guess I’m fortunate in that way.

I remember people starting to sign up for it back in late 2007 or so. If I remember it was sold as being a cool way to do quick messages that linked to others that followed you.

It took only a couple of years for it to turn into what humans like to do best…pick at each other and turn everything into drama like reality TV. / : )

From the last thread:

I imagine a lot of candidates for many offices have done such things. That’s pretty much what opposition research is about.

Digging up dirt on potential opponents (and Evangelicals might have been opponents considering Mr. Trump’s … ah … colourful past) is one way to neutralise them.

If the sleaze on Rev. Graham turns out to be true however, perhaps it will take him out of any future political aspirations (either as a kingmaker or worse, as a candidate for office).

The only way to rectify the imbalance is to add two new seats to SCOTUS; we’ll need to gain control of the Senate in 2020 to do that. Hopefully the stench of Trump’s corruption, and the travesty of the GOP doing nothing about it, will suffice to drive almost all decent people to vote Democratic.

It goes to some of what Decatur Deb and others are saying.

They are good points in this political climate. They are frustrating comments, and to me they already show the shitshow the Democrats are facing.

2020 is not going to be a walk in the park for the presidency. The last five minutes of MTP said to me we are facing some of the same problems with the media and within the Democrats as we did in 2016.

Never mind that they’ve accomplished pretty much nothing of significance other than be wrong about immigration, gun control, foreign relations, immigration, minority rights, women’s rights, and the economy… THE only legislation that they’ve passed is essentially a tax cut for the rich… THAT”S FUCKING IT
Never mind that apparently the head of the party and all of its ancillary arms are actively engaged in voter suppression and gerrymandering
Never mind that the head of the party finances are about to be indicted for treason, as well as the leadership of the House and the Senate…

Exactly. And we have to fight that crap now more than ever.

It is all going to come down to the streets and a ‘street’ understanding of what the people need to do to get rid of the Republicans.

Our media is just going to be like you comment so they have to more or less be tuned out and passed over and the message needs to be shared among the people.

Grassroots and settling on ONE good solid candidate early is going to be really important next year. If there is any party infighting, it better be over by March. My opinion.

When you introspect, you find all kinds of people in there, some you want to keep, some you wish would go away but you find it difficult to kick anyone out. pulling back the curtain is good

did you or anyone else ask for a detailed explanation exactly how the tax cut was “great”, etc?

It’s not illegal to build a hotel in Russia but it sure as shit is to get help from a hostile foreign government for your campaign so you’ll build one there. There’s a reason why no one respects you and your Dad anymore, Rabd. It’s because you’re tools.

Sometimes I think Rabd is playing stupid. Sometimes I don’t think he’s playing. Do not cast aspersions upon the useful implements which can be used to build and fix. A ‘box of hammers’ would be OK. Even though they can also be useful…

This is turning into a deleteable draft. I like your typo, though, if that is what it was.

Rand Paul and Ted Cruz set new low standards for sleaze in politics.

They both are just so unlikable and then they open their mouths and it is just greasy sludge coming out.

What are their redeemable qualities outside of the R by their names?

Nothing. Just go-along votes with a dose of money on the side. Used car salesmen have more going.

You know what he is doing? He is saying there is nothing wrong building a hotel in Russia. And that is true literally.

Rand is doing what all the Republicans are doing, buy themselves and Trump more time.

Then when the facts come out and Rand needs to distance himself from how this is being taken today, he will say he didn’t know all the details originally and of course this is illegal and Donny was a bad boy.

You have to look at what Rand is not saying.

Since when have the Saudi’s been more fanatical about whatever religious teachings they opportunistically adhere to than about keeping their wealth and status safe? I mean, I’m no expert on the region by any stretch but that seems to be business in the Arabian peninsula 101 from what I gather.

Also to be fair, disapproval of bacon would be one thing they could actually agree on, isn’t it?

you want to be able to say “been there, done that”

Actually I can answer that, they used the hair to make little cushions (aka ratts) to pad out their hair styles. This would be before bobbing one’s hair was a thing.

what i’ve been saying
mueller’s been serializing it like the old saturday evening post

washpo

“But Mueller has already been submitting his report, piece by piece, in indictments and other charging documents. He has hidden it in plain sight in the court dockets of individuals and organizations he has prosecuted. Many of those court papers have included far more detail than necessary to prove the culpability of defendants who have agreed to plead guilty. This isn’t just legal overkill on Mueller’s part — it’s the outlines of a sweeping narrative about the 2016 election.”
