It’s a Catch-22 for them. They didn’t want anyone to know about the payments, so they hid everything. Because they knew if the payments were disclosed, reporters would investigate and everything would come out. Which was the opposite of what they wanted to happen, so the only way to hide the story is to also hide the payments. But to knowingly hide the payments is (apparently) a criminal violation of campaign finance law. Compared to the more typical civil violations of campaign finance law where a campaign unintentionally miscategorizes a payment of some sort and later has to change it; or unintentionally authorizes a payment that isn’t allowed under the law.
The big difference here is “knowingly” vs “unknowingly”.

Trump’s actions by and through Cohen (and Trump Org) went several steps further, by creating shell companies, creating phony invoices, and sending payments back and forth to try and claim that these were regular business costs, and not payments to silence those Trump had affairs with. He turned this into a huge money laundering operation because he was repeatedly having affairs with women while married.
That also raises tax implications too, as these business entities had to file tax returns. That’s felony conduct too. And here’s where things get squirrely for Trump. There’s no statute of limitations on tax fraud. The IRS and NYS Division of Tax and Finance (and NYC for that matter) can all go after Trump Org and Trump personally for this.

There was a Daily Beast article yesterday, “With Cohen Going to Prison, Trump’s Companies and Campaign Could Be Indicted Next” that says that even if the Justice Department won’t indict a sitting president, there’s nothing about indicting his company.
Trump is never going to be impeached over hiding payments to conceal his affairs, regardless of their legality. The question is why did Trump think those people who would allow him to shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue would somehow object to a known libertine having affairs. Maybe he realized that to win he needed to attract voters outside his base or perhaps he overestimated the character of the evangelicals and thought that this behavior would dissuade them from voting.
He and mannequin Mike will hopefully both fall due to their failure to protect this country against all enemies both foreign and domestic.

It’s Texas, not the federal government, that imprisons POC for voting when they mistakenly thought they were eligible. This is the future that Texas wants to impose on the rest of this country, including denying Americans the right to vote. Again — states are given a lot of leeway in terms of their laws, unless overturned by the Supreme Court (Loving vs State of Virginia) or overturned by specific federal laws. Trump thinks that this is another justification for his boondoggle wall, when the DHS and law enforcement considers the threat of terrorism via Mexico to be low. The much greater threat is from Canada or those flying into the US on visas (and which has been well documented).
Trump spending billions on a wall that wont stop terrorism, let alone drug use, or other crime. He’s directed law enforcement to ignore homegrown right wing domestic terrorism, which is the biggest threat the nation faces and instead treats nonwhites as the biggest threat of all time.

Nike Confessore of the NY Times on Nicole’s Deadline Washington is talking about how deep Trump’s illegal money handling is going to go once they put it all together.
He was talking about one area he and others are looking at are the donations to the Trump inauguration fund. They raised twice the money Obama raised and we all saw little was spent on the actual inauguration.
He said a look at the donor list shows corporate groups representing things like insurance companies, big pharmaceutical businesses, prison administration, etc.
Rick Stengel (former Time mag head, etc.) said that isn’t new, happens every four years. But what he and Confessore seem to be seeing is it looks like pay for play and Trump just did what he wanted to do with the money. Ane he is paying them all back with favor…like messing with the ACA and all the “holding centers” (prisons) for the people crossing the southern border.
When this all wrapped up, they will have trouble finding anything Trump did that was legal.

5) Finally, either Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning, a race will begin to fashion together stop-gap bills that will push the whole thing out another month or 2, just to get past the holidays, with assurances that they’re not abandoning the fight for the wall funding but just avoiding a painful shutdown that “nobody wants.”
6) The bills get passed at the 11th hour and rushed to Donny’s desk, he bullshits his way into signing them, and the media that has spent weeks talking up the direness of the situation assure folks the crisis has passed…for now.

My point was, after years of promising 100 km flights, they’re obviously planning on defining that down. This would curtail the freefall portion of the flight, too, which was only 4 minutes to begin with.
This was still only a test flight, with a short burn. I think later tests will go for the higher altitude. Also, 100 km = 63 miles, so watch out for unit confusion.

It was supposed to be a short burn, but as it turned out, it wasn’t—it was the full 60 seconds. Maybe they deliberately shallowed the climb, and they’ll go to 100 km on a later flight, I don’t know. And I know 50 miles is about 80% of the way there, but I think for a quarter-mil people are going to want to go into “space” by the international definition—especially since the New Shepard actually has reached that altitude.

Where there’s one shady deal, there are a dozen more. Just you watch.

6) Flynn sentencing.And I know I’m missing stuff…. it’s exhausting trying to keep up with the batcrap insanity and nonstop criminality that is Trumpworld.
