Found myself realizing that, in the end, Donny and Nixon are gonna share another historical parallel: Going down for shit that they didn’t need to do in the first place. Nixon with the “third-rate burglary” when he was in no real danger of losing reelection, and Trump for criminal conspiracy to commit campaign fraud when his base wouldn’t have given two shits over his banging a porn star.

I still don’t believe Trump expected to win the election, I think he genuinely expected to do no better than coming close but falling short enough that he could claim that the whole thing was “stolen.” It was about “the brand,” about getting the Trump name on the TV so much that whatever he went into after the election would start with a huge ready-made following. And so he acted out of that belief, continuing to act as he’d done for years in protecting “the brand” by having Cohen pay off women and sending him the bill in a way that might not get much notice from the IRS or state inspectors.

Hell, I’d even go so far as to suggest that Russia figured they won either way: Either they’d get a ready-made asset in the White House whom they could influence simply by having kompromat on or they’d force such a close win for Hillary that she’d start her presidency severely weakened and dealing with an opposition that claimed the results “invalid” for the purposes of stymieing her every move.

I too always suspected that Trump was just doing a publicity stunt, thinking Hillary was going to be elected and Trump would be her public foil, thus bringing Trump even more attention.

But Trump miscalculate the spineless nature of Republican politicians to stand up to him during the primaries.

Here’s the problem: The House GOP have already made it clear it won’t get a vote before year’s end. Hence why Yertle let it come to a vote, because doing so posed no real danger to Donny’s imperial nature and it gives 2020 incumbent the chance to say “See, I stood up to Trump!”

She’s going to make a lot of the left wonder why they wanted her gone.

I saw a little bit of a local Columbus TV report and it seemed to be Tim Ryan talking about everyone will be on the same page and standing behind Nancy Pelosi come the first of the year.

So, it appears all the static about her being Speaker is done. A good thing.

And, I think the local political news reporter then said her saying she would be done after 2020 (three terms) was important as was her setting up a vote to make three terms as Speaker the limit for the Democrats.

I think that is what I heard, I was also trying to pay attention to some training video.

Sounds right. 2022 is what I heard and I like that. Gives Pelosi time to hopefully work with the next Dem President and her successor will be learning to watch both with a Dem and without a Dem in the WH. Last I saw there were still two holdovers, Kathleen Rice & someone else I’m missing but it wasn’t Ryan or Seth Moulton.

It was always a political ploy, an attempt to get something from her in exchange for votes. The idea that these nimrods were ever really going to vote “present” or lodge a “protest vote” against her Speakership was a joke. The media hyperventilated over nothing…again.

Hence why Yertle let it come to a vote, because doing so posed no real danger to Donny’s imperial nature and it gives 2020 incumbent the chance to say “See, I stood up to Trump!”

But might it come up in the House in the next session, anyway, no?
I’m actually surprised this bill passed - the Senate (no Senate AFAICT recently) has rarely acted to curtail Presidential powers on military matters; even/especially if they don’t relate directly to US forces - and as far this Administration goes, they have diligently evaded/obfuscated any Yemen issues as much as they can. Mainly because the narrative (likely lies, like most Trump policies) is that our BFFs, the Saudis are heroically bombing, shooting and starving Yemeni civilians to keep the Evil Iranians at bay, so all is good. And, of course, the horrors of the war being Way The Hell Over There keeps it out of the media.

It might come up in the House next year, but it would be a new bill as this bill will be dead after the end of the month. And there would be little chance of Yertle bringing said bill to a vote next year, so this is really as far as it goes.

The House will pass a bill next month, the Turtle will refuse to bring it to a vote, and the Democrats could run against the Senate GOP for not voting on this. In any case, by 2020 the issues will be difference.

Nothing passed by either body of Congress in what little remains of this calendar year can be carried forward to the other body next year.
All bills must be completed, within both sides of the building, during the session they are brought forward.
And, I also believe that all persons brought forth to the Senate for nominated positions by the President, must be addressed within the calendar year (session). Or, must start from scratch

The guy that bought my shop told me about his gramma, who used to stop in a lot when he worked here there, at the shop which was mine, before I sold it to him. He said she had a stroke and needed help and his cousin moved in with her. Several months later, she had another stroke, and was back to her old self, doing fine.

Human brains are weird like that.

One Christmas I bought my sister’s cats set (around a half dozen) of little mice with bells in them. I figured they would incredibly annoying as the cats batted them around for hours (what’s a brother for, right?)
Instead, one would grab them, jam them deep into her mouth, deploy all four sets of “murder mittens” clutching what was not in her maw, and loudly growl. When approached while consuming her prey she would lash out violently.
All of them were thrown in the trash within minutes

Do Republicans watch “It’s a Wonderful Life”? If they do, do they identify with Mr. Potter, because that’s who they are? Or do they “cheer” for George Bailey, because that’s who they want to think they are?

It’s not quite as nauseating as “A Christmas Story” but not by much. I avoid it at all costs having been forced to sit through it once. It can ruin my feeling for the season in very short order. My Mac Pro has been acting weird for months, with long pauses while doing common things, like copying and pasting, or switching between apps. Really, really annoying and gets in the way of work, big time.

And then, a few days ago, it suddenly began working at full speed again after a hard restart. All I can do is say a prayer of thanks to the gods of silicon microprocessors, because I have no idea what caused it, and I looked everywhere, including scanning through thousands of lines of system error logs and googling them.

Right before it started working again I emptied the trash on my startup disk and there were a lot of files in there (10K+), but there’s no way to know if that was related.

My iMac was doing something similar, and then started this horrible noise. I shut it down and went to the Genius Bar. “My” Genius said that there is an electronic gateway that directs current traffic, and if it gets out of sorts, the only way to stop it is to shut down, unplug and leave it unplugged for at least 30 minutes. My drive to the store accomplished this, and it _looks_ like it is back on track. Knock wood.

Kinda like the Southern meaning behind “bless their hearts.”

The Southern meaning behind “bless their hearts” (as I understood it when I lived in the South) is exactly that: mocking.

As for Miss Nebraska, from that article I precisely got the idea she was mocking them. She has since apologised, but down near the bottom of the original article:

Summers drew ire online on Wednesday after she shared her thoughts on Rern Sinat, Miss Cambodia, and H’Hen Nie, Miss Vietnam, and their English-language skills in an Instagram Live video alongside Miss Colombia Valeria Morales.

“She’s so cute and she pretends to know so much English and then you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her and she goes …” Summers, a 24-year-old pageant contestant from Nebraska, said when asked about Nie before she proceeded to nod and smile, mimicking her fellow contestant.

“She’s adorable,” she continued.

Summers then shifts her focus to Sinat.

“Miss Cambodia is here and doesn’t speak any English and not a single other person speaks her language. Can you imagine?” Summers said. “Francesca said that would be so isolating and I said, ‘yes, and just confusing all the time.’ Poor Cambodia.”
